I ordered a baked potato at 11.45am on 04/01/25 at the start of lunches. When it arrived, it was really burnt. I started to eat it, but then brought it to their attention that it was so dry & burnt. They offered to return it to the kitchen & was off to bring it to the kitchen’s attention! I declined to return it & picked away at it, because by then, that had put me off my lunch. I mentioned this when paying for it, & I had been given a price reduction of 10%, which resulted in a mere 99p off my bill. I find that insulting & won’t be eating there again!

My Husband & I stopped for lunch on our way back from Aberdeen. We both ordered Baked potatoes with filling. Fillings fine but the potatoes themselves were very black and skins burnt so bad no way you could have attempted them! Salad & coleslaw didn’t look very appealing either and the waitress arrived with her finger in my coleslaw and greasy finger marks around rim of the plate, yuk ! Did make comment when paid and was told this would be fedback to the kitchen so that was that!! Won’t be back for food very overpriced and everything such a rush not a good relaxing experience. On a good note we enjoyed looking round the shop.

My 89 year old mum bought 4 gift vouchers for Christmas presents but somehow lost one. We searched everywhere but couldn't find it. I phoned the shop just in case she'd dropped it. They were SO helpful. They asked us to send them a copy of the receipt and the other 3 vouchers we had which we did. They immediately responded. They cancelled the lost voucher and issued a replacement which we collected. First class customer service. Big thank you to Susan and Marianne who went above and beyond. Thank you. Lynne Fraser

Was greeted at the front desk by the most grumpy woman I have ever seen. For some reason had to give them my name and phone number which they wrote down! I wanted to ask why but didn't want to cause a stir. Was ushered to a table and asked what we wanted. We wanted coffee before we had a look round the shop. I have been to the shop many times and bought lots of clothes and presents for people so have spent quite a bit of money over the years as I'm quite close by. We ordered our two coffees and a scone. I didn't order anything to eat. I am gluten intolerant and didn't want any of the big GF cakes they had so I always carry a small museli GF bar with me. The waitress came over and we gave her our order. I said I didn't want anything as I'm gluten intolerant and had my own small bar with me. The owner came over in the most abrupt manner and asked what was wrong with me? "Are you celiac?" I was so taken aback by her manner and rudeness. She did say we have GF things here and I said I know but I didn't want a large cake but if it was a big deal we will just leave. She couldn't care less if we did. Her reply was "We need to make money!" ok yes you do but the amount of money I've given this place over the past few years would certainly have covered the cake. We walked out. Such a shame as I just wanted to treat my 90 year old mother in law to a coffee. So So disappointed with the staff's attitudes, ok maybe I shouldn't have had the GF bar with me but there are ways of going about things and she definitely had no People skills. What a shame I will be telling everyone about my experience and probably won't return.

Arrived around 2pm on Saturday and seated after about a 5min wait - no biggie… 15 minutes later I had get someone’s attention to take our order. Partners food arrived without cutlery and my soup approx 5 mins later, with a sarcastic remark from a lady in a dress who served it - poor show as being 50 and her looking older I would have expected better considering not once did we complain! Food was excellent, Cullen skink maybe one of the best I’ve ever had, partner really enjoyed her marinated chicken dish…. We only ordered tap water with our meal as we both thought, a coffee and cake after would be a great idea… About 15-20mins after finishing our food, our plates had not been cleared nor asked if we fancied anything further so we decided enough was enough with the service… The food was excellent- the service needs a major improvement!

We were served by a very rude little girl with plenty back chat last weekend. She knows who she is, and she had clearly told her supervisor I was an unpleasant customer as she didn’t serve us again, as the supervisor lady was very short tempered to myself afterwards (immature) - but I’m afraid after a lifetime in retail and visitor attractions myself I learned a long time ago that the customer is always right. I bet you didn’t tell your supervisor how rude you were to me to my face AND behind my back (you thought I didn’t hear you, but I did, and you know I did!) as for sending Iona to take our cake order - she was lovely! She could teach you a thing or two. Never ever tell a customer that it’s her fault you forgot to come back (for 14 minutes) and take her order because she “asked for 2 more minutes” to decide what to have for lunch herself - AFTER having read the regular, specials AND kids menus from front to back for her young son and disabled husband. And never EVER walk away muttering out loud “you’re trying your best” because said customer had waited so long to order her families meals that she’s absolutely beside herself with desperation to use the toilet. Yes I was frustrated at waiting for a while and ordinarily this would not have bothered me in the slightest but I was desperate to use the toilet, and had you purely apologised for forgetting about us, I wouldn’t have thought any more about it - but you blamed the paying customer for your short comings…tut tut tut. Your attitude and blatant back chat made me really angry. There’s 2 sides to every story ‘supervisor lady’. On the plus side the food was lovely, as was Iona!!

A favourite lunch spot in my family. Went for a birthday lunch and was equally as impressed. The pulled pork burger was amazing, great chips and big portion. Everyone was really happy with they had and I understand that the food is consistently great here. Service very good, prices about average, good amount of choice on the menu. I can see why it’s so busy, will definitely be back.

Food was average. It arrived less than 5 minutes after our order was taken which surprised us but left us with cold/lukewarm chicken fillets and bacon roll. All staff were about 16-17 and our waiter was quick and snappy and rolled eyes when we asked for additional sauces… I mean when you ask for ketchup I do expect more than one sachet!

I took my brother and sister in law for lunch on Saturday. I've been to kellockbank on many occasions and enjoyed the visit. We were seated, then shortly after a young girl came and took our order. It was half an hour later before it arrived. My brother had a baked potato with pulled pork, etc. The potato skin was black and tough, and the potato itself hard in places. I had cullen skink, so thick and burning hot I couldn't eat it. The restaurant was very busy, really they shouldn't have let as many people in, it was very noisy and along with that the coffee grinder was on, almost non stop. Could hardly have a conversation without shouting. When my brother went to pay the bill, the young lady asked if everything was okay, and he replied , " No, it was anything but She gave him a receipt and said 'see you again' to which he replied 'no you wont'. Very disappointing visit and felt bad to my family for taking them there. They obviously let too many people in

Nothing too much trouble. The bosses are always at the coal face hence in the event there is an 'issue', it will be dealt with there and then. Well done abdy.

Firstly we used love this place before covid. The staff and food was first class. After that the turnaround in staff became obvious and we still visited for a Sunday lunch but we made a mistake for bringing to the owners attention that there was a mistake regarding my wife's Gluten Free lunch that could have made her really ill and for some reason you aren't meant to be negative towards the owner. She was quite nasty . We never returned until a year ago and tried again and that was ok until Easter when they were busy and our order was taken and 10 mins later a waitress returned saying they didn't have GF chicken fillets. I wrote another wee negative review on here as most places treat that as a way to improve. Not her, we were in on Sunday, had our lunch and when my wife went up to pay the owner once again had a go at her for me leaving a negative review on here, in front of other paying customers. That is the most unprofessional act I have come across in an eating establishment. I was going to let it pass until I saw the comment above about this being a nasty place so I thought, yes people need to be aware of the type of person their hard earned money is going to. Seemingly she only wants POSITIVE reviews. Not the ones that show her true colours. Definitely won't return now. No doubt she will be happy about that

We have been regular visitors to the cafe for a number of years. Overall the food is good and the service is organised and friendly. A few points which would improve the rating - 1. On arrival customers are asked for their telephone numbers and any allergies . The reason for the tel number request is apparently because people were leaving without paying … not sure why giving your phone number would help with this issue ! 2. Loud music above some of the tables is extremely off putting 3. The specials boards are near tables - this results in customers hovering over the tables next to the boards taking screen shots - very off putting when trying to chat and eat 4. The outdoor dining is now open again - the door to access this was constantly banging as customers were being shown to tables and food was being served 5 very busy - queues for waiting for tables and queues for paying at the tills .. Overall the cafe has become very popular and seems to have lost its relaxed atmosphere.

It’s been a long time since I was last at Kellockbank and it has expanded considerably since. Ordered coffee and cakes ; coffee was good, cakes were ok but small for the price. Tables are rather crowded together and the much too loud “musak” blaring out of the speakers everywhere is extremely annoying and doesn’t make for a pleasant dining or shopping experience. The shopping area is also extremely crowded with displays much too close together. It seems to be very popular, but for me it’s not somewhere I’d enjoy visiting again.

We’ve visited a few times for coffee and cake which is always good. Today we had breakfast buns, then cake and coffees and everything was excellent. My only negative comment is that the noise from behind the counter at times was unbearable. All to do with the making of coffees I think. There’s the banging, the sound of a machine whizzing something and the noise of grinding coffee I think. We had to stop our conversation several times as we couldn’t hear each other speaking. We will go back but sit in an area as far from the counter as possible.

I had high expectations from other reviews however that was not what I was greeted with. Charged £8.95 for a panini which I was taking away so same price as sitting in the restaurant. What I received was not worth the price tag.. stale crisps , small amount of salad which was definitely not fresh horrid taste couldnt eat it and the panini which was hard and verging on burnt. I choose tuna mayo and there must of been only a teaspoon of mayo in it! Was just Tuna stuck in a sandwich with spring onion and cheese which hadnt even melted I suspect their cooking them too high too quick. Shop itself is rammed with signs saying breakages must be paid for... highly likley breakages will occur since not much room more so when passing someone. Toilets however are clean the staff not very friendly can clearly see they struggle when its busy or issues arise. Unfortunately I doubt ill ever stop again

It was very busy when we went today. There were more than enough serving staff so I can only imagine the issue was an overloaded kitchen We waited about 20 minutes before we got served, then almost another hour before I asked someone to check on the food as it was so long in coming. When our drinks arrived, the cup for my son was dirty abs the drink had things floating in it. We asked for another, it was also dirty. When did come, it was missing parts and had the wrong accompaniments, my mums order was missing completely. The hot food luke warm and my salad was also luke warm. We mentioned all of this at the till, but no apology was forthcoming. This is the 3rd really bad experience we have had here, others included chicken in a veggie meal and oat milk being mixed up with regular milk and no offer to take back and change this-even when we mentioned one of us has anaphylaxis when consuming oats! We like to try out again energy now and then because it's so local. Needless to say, we will leave it a long time this time...

Decided to treat myself to some gins from the gift shop, a pack of miniatures with a price label of £15 and a small bottle with a price label of £17. Got to the till and the young cashier asked for £32.99. I asked how this could be, when the price labels added up to £32. She said that the gin miniatures cost £15.99, so I showed her the price label and said “but the price label says £15”, she just looked at me and said nothing. As it was only the difference of 99p I paid up, as I didn’t want to make a fuss, but after I’d left I regretted not sticking to my guns and asking to speak to the person in charge. After all, surely the price on the label should be the price you are charged at the till? So something had clearly gone wrong somewhere, but the cashier made no attempt to investigate or even apologise.

Visited here just myself and 9 month old for our breakfast. Initial thoughts were indoor restaurant was cold, probably due to most of the doors to the outside area being open, unsure if this is necessary but if I wanted the fresh air I'd choose to sit in the outside area. Was given a table no bother. Floor area around the table could have been done with a sweep and walls a bit shabby looking. The waitress who came to take my order was a bit miserable , dont think I got a hello or any pleasantries. Food came quick although wasn't impressed with the scrambled egg I'd ordered..a bit undercooked I think . The toast was also a tad burnt which I'd specifically said was for my 9 month old. I had to ask for sugar, jam etc no real communication from the waitress who took the order in the first place. Just a general unwelcome feel about the place. The only positive from our visit was from the waitress who came with my bill (Stephanie) . Chatty, friendly and polite . Booked a table for lunch today. What a terrible disaster that turned out to be. The place was not too busy on arrival shown to our outdoor area table which was pleasant. Advised the waitress as per note on entrance door regarding food allergies. We both opted for the fresh battered haddock a favourite for both of us. Waitress was very pleasant, chatty, and helpful. She checked with kitchen this would be okay for my dairy intolerance. Kitchen advised this was dairy free. Drinks arrived very promptly. Our main courses arrived some 15 minutes later. Despite myself and the waitress advising dairy intolerant she had to take it back to kitchen to be replaced after they added a dairy garnish. On cutting into the fish and batter this appeared tough, rather overcooked but we both thought it might improve away from end of fish. Sadly no this was not the case. I only picked at about a quarter of mine my partner hating to complain ate slightly more of the fish but did not touch the peas or chips. I called over the waitress who was busy cleaning a table. I advised we were really sorry but fish was well overcooked, dry and hard, batter was crumbling and not pleasant. She was very sorry and returned the dishes to kitchen. She returned advising they would not charge full price but only half of cost. As we were still hungry we asked if we could reorder but was advised we could not reorder fish as it would be cooked the same as it was thick fish. We decided to have something else from menu. This was just palatable, macaroni was almost dry with no visible sauce, baked potato and chilli edible but so tasteless and very little chill mostly potato. We ordered another two drinks which took ages to arrive. An extremely rude and abrupt woman arrived at our table. She did not introduce herself but looked at my partner and stated he had eaten half his meal so he would be charged for this. She told us she knew fish dishes as she was from Fraserburgh I advised I knew fish likewise living up North East coast also and eat out often usually fish dishes. She certainly did not have an ounce of customer service to her. I recognised her as the owner of the business! A table sitting opposite commented after she had gone as well she wasn’t a happy woman. How disgusting to talk to her customers as she did especially when you are spending money in her business. She certainly does not accept feedback from customers. There was never any hint of an apology, the bill came we paid it reluctantly. We eat out fairly frequently never been treated like that ever but certainly will not return to her overpriced shop or cafe. Next time we will drive a few minutes further up the road to Morgan McViegh’s.

The only downside to this visit is that there is a table and four chairs placed right in front of the fire exit in the restaurant and someone had parked their baby’s buggy next to it. This is a safety concern and should be addressed.

Love visiting this place. The gift / homeware / Christmas shop is such a lovely place to be, and the food is fabulous. We could guzzle the delicious coleslaw by the bucket load! 🤣😋

Visit kellockbank all the time as live nearby but have never left a review. Highly recommended, family love getting a chicken fillet wrap, coffee and cake as food is always excellent. Look out for breakfast waffle and also mother tap bap!

We were driving from Inverness to Aberdeen. It was time for a break. My wife just happened to spot Kellockbank and said, "Let's try that." We were really glad we did.Kellockbank is not like any other place I've been before. It is a combination garden center, gift shop, and tea house that somehow works together seamlessly. Clearly the tea house was popular -- it was full of people. The pastries were delicious and we enjoyed looking at the art on the walls. The gift shop was well curated with high quality woolens, glassware, paper products and much more. The garden shop looked fun, although we weren't in a position to take things home. If we lived in the area, we certainly would have.I asked the clerk as we were checking out what made the place so popular. She didn't know. She guessed it was the location -- like us, people need a place to stop as they're traveling. I think it is more than that. It is a very well designed, well staffed, and well stocked place of business that knows what it is about. Kudos to the owners and managers, whoever they may be.I wish Kellockbank were in my town in Kentucky. I'd be there almost every day for a cup of tea, a bit of conversation, and something to take home to my garden.

Stopped off for lunch and had a very pleasant meal. Large bowl of Cullen Skink, plenty of flavour and fish ( surprising the number of establishments who serve up a bowl of potatoes in cream, with very little fish). Followed it up with a delicious chicken breast in lemon and cracked black pepper sandwich. Some people would say £6.50 for the sandwich is pricy, well Aroma in Lossiemouth £2 dearer for similar and not as good. Also enjoyed looking round the gift shop. Worth a visit.

Food excellent again! Neither of my guests had been before and I had told them how good the food is. I was not disappointed!! Even if the ketchup sachet would not tear open burst and sprayed me with ketchup, bottles are better....

Lovely setting, great gift & garden areas but please when quiet ask the staff to wipe down menus in the restaurant. Food debris on menu quite off putting. We visited twice in one week sitting at different tables but found small pieces of debris each time on the menu

I've driven past this place countless times so it was great to come here this week during a work trip. We stopped off for lunch in between work in Huntly and Aberdeen (four of us) and everyone commented on how tasty the food was. I loved the menu, could easily have eaten most of it, but I went for tatties & herring with a mustard mayo (yowser!) while everyone else tucked into fresh quiche, salad and other wholesome fare.

Popped out to Kellockbank after a recommendation of one of my work friends, we were not disappointed! On arrival we couldn’t believe how big it was and the selection of items in store did not disappoint!! From LSA glassware, candles to then outdoor furniture we wandered around and got a few wee treats in the process. Also stocking shearer candles - they smell Devine!!! Lunch was a coffee and a cake, the tray bakes were delicious. Definitely coming back for our lunch as the new menu has just launched, great value for money and a lovely wander round on a rainy afternoon.

Staff said breakfast buns served all day but menu said breakfast until 11.30am. Busy this sunday lunch time on a rainy day. There were at least 3 little computer screens in the shop area near bird food all selling their items at the top of little computer screen voice - very odd and very un-relaxing. Would have been interested in little black table and 4 chairs but no price on it. Just leaflets that come within packaging.

Went for breakfast while on holiday. Coffee good, toast good, but most of breakfast (full English) seemed pre-cooked and was rather lukewarm. Worst were the very unfriendly staff, not a welcome or a smile to be had. We felt uncomfortable and wouldn’t return.

We often come here for lunch. Decided to give the breakfast menu a try last week.We had pancakes with maple syrup and bacon, and a breakfast sausage bun. both of these were delicious and filling, accompanied by the usual cappuccino. The pancakes were excellently presented as shown in the photo. They were topped with lovely crispy bacon, raspberries with a sprinkle of sugar, and an ample helping of maple syrup.

A short stop en route south. Had chefs special salmon salad. Salad not good , well past it’s sell by date. Salmon pate delicious. Food served on a board covered with a bit of paper. Cutting salmon meant cutting through soggy paper too. Not a good idea. Don’t think I’d come again.

The chippy is just up the road from us but we probably only pop in to get chips once a month to go with a meal we are making. The chips are always good these days, as is the service and the staff are really helpful. On more than one occasion I’ve seen them going above and beyond to help out a member of the public. Also really pleased to see the phasing-out of polystyrene trays and plastic bags in favour of paper and cardboard over the last few years. Fish could always be bigger but you could say that about any chippy these days and the last few fish I’ve had have been really good. Highly recommended.

Overall correct but below our expectations: the blue cooking required for the beef was limited, the accompaniments not very elaborate or sophisticated and the industrial sauces (what a shame!) Plates generously served. Certain whiskey references presented on the menu were no longer available and obtaining advice is not easy. Approximate but attentive and friendly service.

One of the worst meals I have ever had here. Everything was frozen. Will not be back for dinner that's for sure. The management did actually deduct the price of one main meal that was the one good thing of the night. Sorry to write this about this hotel as it used to be one of the best in town but now probably one of the worst.
