We eat here regularly and have never had a poor meal and tonight was no exception. It was my father-in-laws birthday and we all had different things and we all enjoyed our food. The food, the service and the atmosphere never disappoint. Would definitely recommend.

What a lovely little find on a Sunday afternoon on Main Street We were visiting the area and looking for somewhere to eat So welcoming and friendly and beautiful home cooked food and very generous portions - could not fault and would highly recommend Do not walk pass you will be disappointed!

We decided on an early lunch so were the second table in a very quiet bar, ordered lunch with a nice friendly waitress who came back after a few minutes to say the soup had changed but it wasn't to our taste. Still not sure how they'd run out of soup so early! The main courses were piping hot and tasty.

Food was so disappointing, we waited an hour for the starters, lettuce on the Asian salad was brown and wilting. On the mains chicken supreme ok but others gelatinous sauces.. so poor considering time we waited and hefty prices. No atmosphere-bright and bare. Reminiscent of Scotland in 1980s.

We stayed for one night for our anniversary and had a lovely stay. The room was spacious and clean and had a great view south over fields and the bed was comfy and the shower was great. We had a drink before dinner with canapés which was nice and a lovely meal served by friendly staff. We had no complaints about anything at all, but we spoke to a member of staff to enquire about the situation with dogs in the hotel. We had been thinking of staying a few months previously and as it advertised as being dog friendly it fitted the bill, but we chose somewhere closer to where we were going, which turned out to have been a good decision. She said that dogs were not allowed in any of the public areas only in the bedroom and when you are eating the dog must be left in the car or the bedroom in the cage provided by the hotel. This would not have suited us, but it may suit other people, but anyone booking should be aware of this before they arrive. I would describe it more as dog tolerated than dog friendly and I understand the reasons for it, but it should be made clear by a description on the website.

Room was very big although quite dated. Unfortunately the plughole in the bath was full of hairs and the cleanliness of the room in general wasn't great. The public areas have been renovated and are much better. The breakfast was basic but fine, the girls serving were very friendly. The receptionists on arrival and departure were a little brusque and not very welcoming. Excellent location in the square.

23/12/24 Booked in for the 'Festive Menu' & it was the best Christmas dinner I've had in a long while. Very well presented & tasted absolutely gorgeous! We ate in the bar, all beautifully decorated & a lovely atmosphere. All the staff were very friendly & accommodating. We are new to the area & will definitely be dining here again.

There are two small cottages. We stayed in one. Downstairs was a spacious living room and kitchen and upstairs there were two bedrooms (a double and a single bed) and a spacious bathroom . There was a small fridge, supplied with cold bottled water, 2 cokes and a jug of milk to go with the tea and coffee facilities. Biscuits and a box of chocolates really made us feel welcome. We had breakfast included and ti's was delicious. Lunch was not necessary after a full Scottish breakfast with toast. We also had evening dinner on two nights and were pleasantly surprised at the quality. A very good chef in the kitchen and the waiting staff were excellent. The ambience was wonderfully too. The restaurant was also a public bar and it is frequented by locals and the buzz was great. We have visited Moffat often but we never visited the Balmoral before. We won't be looking any further when we come to visit again.
