What a lovely little find on a Sunday afternoon on Main Street We were visiting the area and looking for somewhere to eat So welcoming and friendly and beautiful home cooked food and very generous portions - could not fault and would highly recommend Do not walk pass you will be disappointed!

Severely disappointed… I travelled over 30 miles, twice! To get something from here as I had seen pictures on their facebook and thought wow that looks great! I got to the location, starving, and it was closed! I arrived at 4pm on a Thursday after checking on their facebook and on google which said that it was open. I got to the door and all the lights were off, I tried the door and it was locked. There was a sign on the door to say they were open till 6pm on Thursdays- clearly false advertising! There was no post on their facebook to say they were closed and no sign on the door… if you are looking to provide good customer service at least let your customers know you will be closed. Completely mind blown?? I will not be trying again as this is the 2nd time now after they have claimed it was open. I also tried phoning but received no answer, not even a pre recorded message letting customers know they will not be open today? Food looks great, but I will not be back to try. Thanks for the waste of fuel and time, next time please make customers aware you will be closing early.

We were a family of 5 with 2 young kids. The staff were very attentive and very friendly. I would highly! recommend their haggis lasagna with french fries, and no less than 5 more veg! Served on piping hot plates I may add👏 My only disappointment? It wasn't open every day for sit down and eat on food.☹️ Ring ahead to save dissapointment

Called in here for Sunday lunch, mainly because we were struggling to find somewhere still serving food at 4 on a Sunday afternoon. From the outside this appears to be a local cafe, however we had the most delicious sunday dinner of roast beef / pork medallions. The portions are huge, well cooked and very reasonably priced. "Bloody lovely" as my husband puts its! Anyway dont pass this place by if your in the area looking tasy home cooked food, highly recommend.

During a resent visit to Scotland, we were traveling through Newton Stewart, its not the easiest place to get a bite to eat at six o'clock in the evening. But we came across this cafe. To be honest it didn't look great on the outside, and there is a lot of clutter inside but overall the food was good. The waitress was friendly and the cafe was busy and offered a very wide range of dishes on their menu. My gammon steak was a little overdone but otherwise a very tasty meal and reasonably priced.

By far the best place for Sunday Lunch in Newton Stewart, or any day of the week. Jill the owner, is a fantastic cook, and you won't be disappointed, the meals are full of flavour.

Found this place by accident, and have to say that the food was exceptional. Don't judge this based on the outside. Small cafe with great food, cooked with the love and attention you would get at home. Amazing

We returned to this quaint little lunch spot today. Second visit was just as good as the first. Their portion sizes were very generous and they were able to retain the quality of their home cooked meals. Aside from the chips which weren’t to my liking - (prefer home cooked, hand cut chips) - the fish was amazing and I enjoyed a well made coffee. Their chicken salad was really nice, well presented and tasty. Prices should be higher for what they’re serving and the staff are lovely. I’d return again when I’m in the area and maybe even reserve a table beforehand to make sure I don’t miss out.

Fabulous place for a wee snack when out shopping in Newton Stewart. Couldn't believe that a pot of tea for one was only £1.10. Toasties are the best I have ever had. So good that although we were on holiday in New Luce we went back again there for the great friendly service & "toasties". Family run & have extensive menu + a carry out menu + homemade tablet that we also bought on our second visit. Highly recommend this lovely small gem of a place & wish I had been nearer as I would love to have experienced more of their homemade dishes. Tell your Auntie her tablet was delicious :) Nearly forgot homemade Lentil soup was also lovely!!

This was uninspiring from arrival through to departure. Poor service, home baking was shortbread, it was a break in our journey but only that.

Good food at budget prices. Atmosphere could be better. but how can you complain at a roast with 7 kinds of veg for £7.

We went to Newtown Stewart for the day and decided to stop off here for lunch as it looked a good varied menu for 4 adults and 3 children (including a 2 year old) Upon arriving the member of staff that served (dark hair young lass) was FANTASTIC, she took all our orders and catered to our needs for the boys. When the food arrived it was superb. Boys all loved it as did we! We had ran out of mayo and one of the boys wanted a glass of water as he had a milkshake. I stopped a member of staff (blonde) as she was passing to ask for this - by the time I said mayo please she grunted and took off to get it not saying a word or letting me finish - didn’t get a chance to order water?! She chucked it on the table as she was passing and I stopped her again to ask for the water, she actually rolled her eyes at me! I was in no way rude the first time I asked I was pleasant, I’m an adult not a stroppy teenager but the rolling of eyes did it for me. She then proceeded to talk to customers she obviously knew and was looking over and glaring at our table. I find this an absolute unexceptable manner of behaving for someone who is supposed to work in a customer facing position. Completely rude and just quite nasty. Ruined the whole meal for me. We were no bother at all when we were there and to ask for two small things to receive the looks and attitude from one member of staff is a downright shame for a great wee restaurant and the other member of staff who was a complete joy to deal with. It’s a shame one person can let down the place and it’s great reputation. However thank you to the young lady who was serving us to begin with. She’s a credit to your restaurant.

Food excellent made to order. Huge menu, kids menu, seniors menu . Could do with cleaning plastic tablecloths and table mats more thoroughly though as drinking glasses put on tablecloths upside down . Found food on laminated menus and salt and pepper pots. A pity because the food is excellent and reasonably priced .

This looks like any greasy spoon, but the food is exceptional value and the service is quick and pleasant.

On a visit to Newton Stewart decided to stop in here for some food. Restaurant is nice, clean and well kept. Ordered our food and drinks, waitress very friendly. However couple of issues with food, steak pie contained mushrooms which menu didn't state, and i then discovered mushrooms in the lasagne! Neither my hubby or i like mushrooms, so wasn't ideal, however minus the mushrooms the food was lovely. Kids meals were good. Very reasonably priced.

Restaurant seems clean and staff were friendly and helpful. There appear to be several menus but we decided to order from the Main Menu but apparently there is a senior citizens menu with smaller portions. There is also a kids menu. Our friends had eaten here recently and said it was very good but on our visit we found the battered fish was a bit greasy because the batter had not stuck to the fish during cooking. The scampi was obviously straight from the freezer. Gammon steak was alright but not as good as on a previous occasion. Meals are offered with either salad or a selection of vegetables. Most of us chose vegetables but found they were overcooked and soggy. We enjoyed our tea to follow our lunch but didn't have desserts because we found the portion size on the main was quite large and we didn't have room for more. Lunch was OK but there are better places to eat in Newton Stewart.

Best Scottish Curry I ever have had in my life - Brilliant! Really enjoyed our meals here - the quality amongst the finest we have known! Looking forward to next visit!

Bit tired looking, but the food was tasty, home cooked and plentiful. Highly recommended, good value for money.

Had a lovely lunch here with visiting friends from down south, service great, food was amazing & always enough to eat. Visitors thought it was friendly.

Lasagne chips and salad - haddock chips and veg - these are large portions all freshly cooked and delicious!! We each had a drink and the bill came to £16 which is very good value! They also do a takeout menu 😋

Plain,simple and not flashy but the food is out of this world excellently presented and deilicious. Staff friendly helpful and very quick to deal with the customers

Friends took us here for a meal, standard family fare, cooked to perfection at a very good reasonable price. we were given almost a seperate room to eat in, as there were 6 of us, and so it was really cosy. Staff friendly and helpful....

Always love to visit Scent of Galloway when we are down on holiday, the food is always freshly prepared, cooked & delicious, the portion sizes are enormous, we had 2 starters, 2 main courses & 3 cans of Diet Coke for a very reasonable £25....

I absolutely love this cafe it's always delicious. I recommend to anyone who hasn't been to try their steak onion and mushroom pannini with pepper sauce.

Had pie and chips here in this quaint little 'cafe'.Menu is extensive..Staff very attentive and polite.was not busy when we went in in the week..The pie could have been more tasty as was quite bland, also they did allow dogs in where you ate which I do not agree with at all..

We eat at Scent of Galloway every time we're in the area, the menu is extensive and well-priced and the food is always good. It's especially great if some of your party want a full meal but others just want a snack, it's all catered for. Would thoroughly recommend it.

Regular visitors to this quaint cafe in Newton Stewart, my wife and I split the HUGE prawn salad with chips. Wow..Yummy! ! Service, as always, exceptionally friendly. Food always always fresh. Highly recommend.

This is one of the best restaurant in the area we had steak pie and fish an chips and we were not disappointed and it was very cheap in comparison to others in the area

Popped in for a quick meal before going to the cinema in Newton Stewart. Not my first visit but I've never used their senior citizen evening menu before. Excellent value at £7.95 for two courses or £8.95 for three. We all went for the three courses. I had the macaroni cheese with chips, my friends had breaded haddock and battered haddock. The other choices available included a curry, a steak pie and gammon steak. The portions weren't as big as their usual massive ones but they were a good size and I struggled to finish my pudding. Our puds included a banana split and meringue chantilly. This was crammed full of raspberries and ice cream. My friend said the banana split was very good with extra fruit salad. We had some decent coffee and the whole bill for three was around £30. Good home cooking in a pleasant environment at a very reasonable price.

Lovely wee restaurant serving fabulous quality food. We were a large party and staff couldn't do enough for us. Food was first class and very very reasonable.

Not the fanciest place to eat but this is made up by the friendly staff and good food. We stopped in at lunch time for a snack. I had a baked potato and when it arrived I was pleasantly surprised. Often salad with a baked potato fills a small corner of the plate. Not in this eatery! A large potato with a huge filling and huge mixed salad- delicious. Price is very reasonable. Well impressed

18 lassies staying in Newton Stewart to celebrate my sisters 50th. We booked the Scent of Galloway for birthday dinner. What a lovely find. The Staff went that extra mile...making the occasion special. Haggis balls were delicious. Roast beef so tender it melted in my mouth. Fresh veg...and lots of it. Turnip, broccoli, peas, mash and roast potatoes. And lots of it. Same reports of the Gammon steak and Stilton. Best of all great atmosphere. Thank you.

Brilliant wee eating place,real home cooking done to a very good standard,service and staff excellent, always a pleasure to come eat here when visiting family.

Morning after a mad wan fulla ecto and a needed some scran so a wenty this joint and the chicken chilli panini could give ye an orgasm man aw mate it's quality like but wouldn't advise the chilli sauce while waiting on the Bucky/ eccie shites, ma erse wis stinging after that

Each time we visit Newton Stewart we call in and have a relaxing meal very good food plus the staff are very friendly and accommodating to the children Love these visits hope to return soon

I have had both takeaway and Sunday dinner inside. Both times the food was exceptional and the staff are friendly and kind. They have a wide range of food and on Sunday have special two or three course offers.

A very traditional local cafe. An extensive menu that has something for all and The Scottish breakfast served here is not to be missed! The staff are very welcoming and friendly and the service very efficient.

There's nothing fancy or frivolous in Scent of Galloway, it's a basic cafe, clean and tidy, with traditional good food at reasonable prices. From hearty soup, burgers, steak pie, macaroni cheese, these are meals for hearty appetites. I've eaten here several times and come away satisfied. The prices are good, the portions ample and after a day out they fill you up without breaking the bank. If you're looking for imagination or fine dining this isn't for you but if you're hungry and want value for money you can't go wrong.

Nice airy room and beautiful views, staff very friendly and helpfull, they also have a pensioners menu which is helpfull.

Although a little dated inside, the staff and food were first class. Traditionally served with no fuss in a relaxed atmosphere. The meal was hot and tasty, we would definitely eat here again. Also offer a take out service.

My daughter had visited this cafe with friends and rated it quite highly for Newton Stewart.. Decided to try for myself. I had an egg mayonnaise salad sandwich which was delicious and my daughter had a chicken and sweet corn panini which she enjoyed. Service was quick and courteous . Only drawback was that the cafe furnishings are very 'tired' and the place could definitely do with a face lift. Good value for money though and ideal for a quick bite to eat.

Husband, Sister-in-law and myself visited this restaurant for the fifth time and yet again not disappointed. If you have a problem with something the staff see to it straightaway.....excellent service throughout...would highly recommend it.

The food was good and the service even better with a wide choice of meals available.We go back regularly to Newton Stewart to visit relatives and always go here for a meal with Mum and Dad, we all look forward to it.They also do a take away service which is the best in town.

Just look at the volume of patronage it says it all - well cooked food at a price that is hard to beat served by friendly staff, with the choice of a take away option or a regular cafe service. with the probability it is the best in town

Could not believe how lovely presented an all day breakfast could be. For £5.95 you just cannot go wrong. Included is toast and coffee. I had the homemade cream of chicken soup and half Panini and coffee, the bill came to £12.We cannot wait to try the other meals on offer.

The food and service is outstanding here, the prices are very reasonable and portion sizes are fab. There where 3 of us we all had a meal and drinks and it was less than £16, The Chilli Con Carne is one of the best Ive ever tasted. They also do a fab take away service, and are open late at night.

My family and myself always visit this lovely cafe/restaurant whenever we are in the area. The food is always amazing great value for money with very generous portions. The staff are always very friendly polite and welcoming and are great with our children bringing them colouring books and pens to keep them amused.

There's not many places open in Newton Stewart on a Sunday but if you are pop in to the Scent Of Galloway where you will get a friendly welcome and a good choice of menu from tea, coffee, light snack or full meal.

We come here for lunch when down visiting family. The service is always good and the food is excellent, hopefully be back in October.

The bad side is it is a bit of a greasy spoon cafe with loud pop music. The good side is that the food is excellent and freshly cooked. They do a "pensioners" portion, which is very good value

We stumbled on this little place by complete chance. It was a Sunday teatime and we were on the lookout for something for tea. We went in expecting an average cafe and ended up with the most delicious meal we've had in years. The food was just fantastic. Freshly prepared, enormous portions and a great menu. The specials board offers 2 courses or 3 courses for a set price and there are plenty of choices for all tastes. Our 2 children opted for the kids menu and the portions were again very large and again the price very reasonable. Service was excellent and our bill for 5 (3 adults and 2 kids) which included 3 courses for the kids and main and deserts for the adults 4 soft drinks and 1 large white wine - £43. Brilliant.I would highly recommend Scent of Galloway. Its fantastic.

This little gem has been a favourite of mine for lunch and I always visit at least once when I am home. The best fish and chips in town. Service is always friendly and very efficient. Food is good grub and is ideal for a family lunch. The only thing that might put people of is the old style layout and the way it is decorated. It is in need of a liven up but the food is great.

We have been using the Scent of Galloway for a few years and have always been pleased with the service and the food. Whether it is a quick snack or meal to eat in or take away the food on the comprehensive menu is always good.

We went as a foursome for a meal and all chose something different. The food was excellent and the staff were polite and friendly. This is good value for money and the food was excellent, we will be going again!
