Paid £120 for one night stay including breakfast. Only has a few rooms above a pub and restaurant. Room spacious and comfortable though. No discernible noise from downstairs. Had dinner here and not wife and I had pizza which we both enjoyed. Had a couple of drinks in the bar area which was also a nice area. Cooked breakfast on the morning was very good. Would recommend for a short stay for sure.

On holiday in Dumfries and Galloway and visiting Kirkcudbright for the day we attempted to have lunch here. However, upon entering a rather rude lady said we couldn't have a table as they already had two parties of six in and only one chef in the kitchen. Seems from the reviews that others have had similar experiences.

We have visited the Garett many times and always have a great time! Not only do we get a nice welcome, A shout out to the Manager Missie and her lovely staff, the food is delicious 😋 and the rooms very comfortable. If you're looking for the vibrancy of life, the Garret is for you! The locals are also very friendly, and we have had some great times and made great friends. We will be back!!

Monday evening, I came in for a meal and obviously hadn't booked. Totally understand that I hadn't booked but to be told "we are fully booked" was a surprise. I write this because I literally can see 1 table eating and 1 table that has eaten in the restaurant. I don't mind being told we aren't serving anymore food but basically to be lied to is insulting.

Avoid this place like the plague. Walked into lunch today at 1.30 for lunch, 5 of us fir lunch. There were only 3 people in and 3 staff behind the bar. They waited till we were sat and looked at the menu, to then be told they could not serve us as they were expecting a party of 6. No sorry or apology. Totally rude and unprofessional. A customer service coarse is badly needed!!!!

The whole ethos of being in the hospitality trade, is to cater wholeheartedly for the needs of your customers and to provide them with the best experience possible; for without them, you don't have a business and indeed, if you can't manage to do that, you shouldn't be in the hospitality trade. We wanted a table for about 7pm but were told that the kitchen closed at 6pm on Sunday, so that a deep clean could be carried out. We therefore booked a table for 5.30pm. When we arrived, at the same time as another two diners, the place was deserted and the dining room was empty. Clearly no warm welcome here. I had to ring a bell to attract attention. The dining room had bare wooden tables and only three of them had cutlery. We were eventually greeted, seated and told that there was no steak pie and only one burger left. The starters were few and uninspiring and the mains were equally so, with the exception of the non existent steak pie. We decided to have the fish pie, which was piping hot and very tasty. It was also very filling. So filling infact, that they decided that we wouldn't want a dessert afterwards. We are still waiting to see the menu and I actually had to ring up to ask for the bill. I can't criticise the waitress, who was running around and trying to do several jobs at once. Several customers came in whilst we were there, then walked back out. A table for four walked out because they were waiting for one guest who wasn't arriving until after 6pm and they hadn't been told that the kitchen was closing down. The whole place was devoid of any atmosphere. There is no point buying a business then doing your best to run it into the ground. You cannot afford to turn customers away, particularly when there is an exemplary establishment, a few yards away. You book your restaurant full, serve a full selection of dishes, in a professional manner with a nice ambience and then deep clean your kitchen, even if that means working until after midnight.

Wandering in unplanned, it was the first day open under new management with the official opening do due 3 days later. The Pizzas are excellent, the service friendly & the beer local. The Garret is open too in that twilight when cafes are closing & many pubs not yet serving food. Prices are very reasonable too. Good atmosphere & real wood burning stove. What’s not to like?

Had dinner two nights in The Garret run by great hosts Andy and Audrey assisted by the two great young waitresses. Typical pub grub good quality and reasonably priced. We also had drinks in the bar both nights and found it very friendly and comfortable. We would definitely eat and drink in The Garret again.

We stayed for one night and couldn't fault anything. The beer garden was perfect place to relax and soak up the sun. Room was fine and very clean. We ate Dinner & breakfast and it was spot on. Andy the owner worked very hard as they are short on staff, however this didn't let the experience down. Kirkudbright it's self is a small sleepy fishing town....not a lot going on but we managed a walk and a few drinks in the beer gardens., The Garret being the best one !

I am only reviewing the 'Garden menu' option which was the only food when we went (the regular menu did look more impressive). Basically a choice of fast food e.g. pizza, burgers, so I chose the chicken burger and wrongly expected a grilled healthy breast fillet, but it came deep fried in crispy coating. My fault I should have checked. The chips were very nicely done though. We had given our name on arrival but had to laugh when 25 minutes into the meal I got a phonecall asking us if we still intended to turn up. No offence taken though ;-) I might return again once the regular menu becomes available.

Scallop starters were very good so I was anticipating a good meal.Wrong.Salmon was overcooked and I had a hard boiled egg on top rather tham a soft runny poached egg.Not worth the £12 cost.I heard a comment that locals would not pay the £4.60 or more a pint for the beer and that this is only for the tourists.A good way to put tourists off I think as well as the locals

Visited here whilst on a family holiday and left very happy and very full! The place itself is lovely- decor is great inside and the beer garden is huge, bright, and clean. The service was great- quick, attentive and friendly. The guys even brought my dog treats despite the fact that he is is nervous of people and can be quite antisocial (!) The food was fab, good portions and very, very tasty. All three courses were devine. Totally recommend and we will be back.

I'm sorry to say we were disappointed today. I'll start with the positive points. Great garden, friendly staff, dog friendly. Bad points: food overpriced. Ordered chicken in a basket for £9.50 and we got 3 small pieces of chicken and a few chips. We also ordered scampi in a basket for £10.50, this came with 6 small pieces and a few chips. We'd definitely come back for a drink and a sit in the garden but we won't be ordering food again as the choices were limited for pub lunches, perhaps a few sandwiches or toasties would help.

On a short break in Kikcudbright we had an evening meal here. Couldn't fault the food...the photos don't do it justice. The sBest meal we've had for a long timcallops, and the pate and salad for the starters, the smoked haddock creamed potatoes and poached egg dish, and the sea bass with puy lentils etc. for mains. Congratulations to the chef for cooking and presentation, and to the warm friendly,, yet very proffessional dining room staff. Top marks all round.

We had a superb midweek supper here with friends in November. Bit of a trek from Dumfries but well worth the visit, and even closer to the M74 for anyone travelling up to Scotland in need of a refreshment. The haggis bites were delicious and the lamb kleftiko simply melted in the mouth. Their Chilean SB was extremely gluggable and very reasonably priced. Abbey and Jack were the best hosts. Highly recommended.
