We stayed for one night for our anniversary and had a lovely stay. The room was spacious and clean and had a great view south over fields and the bed was comfy and the shower was great. We had a drink before dinner with canapés which was nice and a lovely meal served by friendly staff. We had no complaints about anything at all, but we spoke to a member of staff to enquire about the situation with dogs in the hotel. We had been thinking of staying a few months previously and as it advertised as being dog friendly it fitted the bill, but we chose somewhere closer to where we were going, which turned out to have been a good decision. She said that dogs were not allowed in any of the public areas only in the bedroom and when you are eating the dog must be left in the car or the bedroom in the cage provided by the hotel. This would not have suited us, but it may suit other people, but anyone booking should be aware of this before they arrive. I would describe it more as dog tolerated than dog friendly and I understand the reasons for it, but it should be made clear by a description on the website.

The produce was so fresh and everything cooked perfectly. the 4 course set meal is good value with plenty of choice for starters, mains and dessert.

Meal out with friends. Lovely place, food good although I think 3 of us shared the last piece of venison, menu folders differed in having extra pages of dishes not for that day or for dinner. Service ws poor, when asked how the "Salmon with honey mustard and cafes berries" was prepared, smoked, cooked? We were told that "of course it'll be cooked." It was smoked! 1 cracked glass. Wines seemed expensive, poor choices IMHO, individual bottle prosecco was sweet, unpalatable. While still eating we were asked whether we would be having coffee, and replied that we probably would, but would wait until after dessert to order. The look told us that was not the right answer. Neither was a request for decaff. coffee! Chocolates served had the bloom of age. Reasonable value but definitely not returning. Suggest choose elsewhere.

We ate there last night with friends, their company was great and very enjoyable. Shame about the menu and service. To be served by a person who had an uncovered graze of her forehead was disturbing. A simple plaster would help. She did not know if the salmon starter was smoked or not but worse didn’t not offer to find out, it was a take it or leave it impression. Bread on a dinner plate and butter on the same plate. Venison but no steak knife. A sweet that was watery! A wine glass with a chip in the rim. There was no mention of any changes available for allergies. Top this with a flat price even if you don’t have all of the four courses! Not impressed.

We had a wonderful evening here. The hostess was warm and welcoming and it felt as if we were visiting a dear friend's house. The dinner was excellent; smoked salmon, followed by venison and seasonable vegetables, all cooked to perfection with a lavender creme brulee. We were enthralled to listen to Professor Barry Smith's talk during and after dinner. He was very entertaining and we couldn't have wished for a more interesting and enjoyable evening. We will definitely book for another of these fun evenings at Chirnside Hall Hotel.

My wife and I had such a fantastic evening here a few nights ago. The staff and owner could not have been friendlier. The lounge for pre dinner drinks with a lovely fire and great views. The food ? Words cannot say how much we enjoyed. Four course meal at £40 and every dish outstanding. The best venison I have ever had. We VERY strongly recommend. We will be returning !

We called ahead to ask for lunch and despite them not normally opening for lunch they booked us in. Setting was lovely, service was very welcoming and food was delicious. Then the bill was pleasantly low. Will definitely be going back again soon.

I visited the Chirnside Hall Hotel for the first time ever, though sadly it was for a funeral reception. What a lovely place - very much huntin', shootin' and fishing and weddings but what a beautiful setting with friendly and helpful staff. The lunch buffet, although simple, was excellent and obviously home made and this would be the sort of place I would spend a weekend at, just chilling out in the midst of beautiful scenery, fabulous local food and every creature comfort provided!

¡volveremos!

Go here now before everyone else figures out what amazing value this place is! The drive through the Scottish countryside is stunning (a half-hour drive from the railway stop at Galashiels). The owners have created something special that I simultaneously want to keep to myself and share with the world. Oxana's hosting (and baking and wine-pairing) skills mean you are welcomed with friendly service, clear explanations of the wine pairings and amazing, sweet treats. We have been twice - once in September and once in November - and from beginning to end, our glasses were never empty, and we were treated to amazing service. Now, the food is really something to talk about. Bryn is doing something special here. The food is fresh and innovative while remaining down to earth and approachable. A simple parsnip soup sent our table to heaven with its perfect spice. We had pork belly with the crunchiest crackling and lentils with vegetables that were flavoured so beautifully I couldn't tell what was in them. Blue cheese with truffled honey had all of us begging for more. Every bite is a delight, and some of it was items I wouldn't normally order. This food, this place, is truly something special, reflecting our Borders community and some of the best food in Scotland. Go now!

Stopped in for some lunch today. Friendly service with a good and varied choice of menu. Offers half portions of meals if more suitable. Brilliant value. Hot and cold options available. Felt like the teapot was bottomless, think it was 3 cupfuls in total!

Wonderful food and so nicely presented and the young man serving was so polite and professional. Only negative was the disappointing vegetarian options for my sister. Macaroni cheese is more suited to a cafe menu. But a lovely evening none the less.

Got to say, I’ve never had a bad meal or experience in here. The ham hock and lentil soup as amazing, the steak and mushroom pie was outstanding. It was packed with lean steak in a lush, beefy broth type gravy. Great fies, a la dente peas and everything was piping hot and cooked to order. Even the plates were warm, which I always appreciate. The staff were great and the owner is a real friendly guy. If yer heading North or South on the A68, make sure this is yer pit stop, even for a coffee and cake. Made me smile today whilst I was eating, it was that good. It looks like a greasy spoon if you pass it on the road, but it’s not! It’s on a par with very good pub grub, and it’s really clean inside, as is the kitchen which I passed on the way to use the bathroom.
