Visited on a Friday at around 1.30 place wasn’t overally busy still empty table, waited to be seated handed menus straight away, then waited for over 20 minutes for anyone to come near us , had to grab the waiters attention on the way past to ask him to allow us to order. Finally ordered after around 25 minutes of being there waited a further 20 minutes to be served a bottle of water and the can of juice we ordered, then a further 45 minutes for a panini and a fry up. Food was nice but staff very unattentative. Other tables who came in after us were served first.

This must be the best Scottish breakfast eatery ever. The Scottish breakfast is absolutely delicious and the cook standard is exceptional, the portion control for £7.99p is fantastic value it's definitely worth leaving England for but most of all is the flavoursome food and the friendly staff young and very professional even at 9am.on a Sunday morning served with a smile, don't confuse this restaurant with a greasy spoon cafe it's much more a genuine welcome awaits the hungry traveller this is a hidden gem definitely 5***** I myself have been a fully trained Manchester Midland hotel trained chef since 1978 and know good quality food when I see and eat it.You even get a finger of Scottish shortbread with £1.99p Pot of tea so for less than a tenner you get the breakfast two slices of toast with real butter and the pot of tea. SO GET YOUR SELF UP THERE.

Second time coming here, first time the girl serving slammed plates and saucers down on table and scoffed when one of my party said we were missing a drink but food was lovely so tried again. Second time neither of us could eat our food as it just wasn’t nice, we wouldn’t have minded and would’ve changed our meals but the two young girls didn’t come anywhere close to the table to ask if everything was okay, we tried to wave them down but completely ignored us, didn’t say a word when clearing two almost full plates and still charged full price after complaining and not eating even a quarter of our food

We waited quite a while for service. When the girl came over to take our order we asked for a menu, which we were told was under the condiments bowl and the sugar bowl, which we hadn’t noticed. After looking at the menu we then waited for quite a long time for someone to come and finally take our order. The soup was very nice but no crusty bread as advertised, instead it was half a slice of white bread. Nice cup of tea.

Visited the cafe with my wife and 2 kids after reading positive reviews on trip advisor. 2 portions of fish and chips for the adults, sausage (singular) and chips for my son and a kids breakfast for my daughter. All food except the chips were terrible. Both portions of fish barely contained any fish with the batter being tasteless and too crispy. Service was good which is why it’s 2 stars instead of one star. Really disappointed.

Arrived just after 9am for breakfast. Only one member of staff had turned up and apparently no gas available to fry an egg so had to settle for scrambled egg with our breakfast. Breakfast itself was a bit dry and the very thin and very cold toast didn't arrive until breakfast was half eaten. Have been there before for a latte and were quite happy, today we had one latte which wasn't as good as on previous visits and a cappuccino which to be honest was pretty dire and anything but what I would consider acceptable. Also the prices are not cheap so would have expected far better quality than what we got. As with all establishments a lot depends on who is working on that particular day and we obviously got the Z Team.

After being refused patronage at the Gretna Hall Hotel because my wife is allergic towards some foods, i was searching for a replacement. At first the Old Toll Bar was prepared to serve us food - that was until the manager heard through the grapevine that Gretna Hall Hotel refused us patronage and so did they without even asking one question. We have seen how the staff in Gretna Hall Hotel handled food and it was disgraceful. The Old Toll Bar prided itself to have the same standards. The only reason why both were unable to accommodate a person with food allergies is that their kitchen must be dirty and the rules and regulations about food hygiene and contamination are not being followed.

My recent visit to this establishment was rather disappointing. I regularly visit the other companies premises and was recommended to visit here too as I have never been before. On arrival through the doors I was greeted by a stern look from an older woman of which I never caught her name. I took a seer with my partner at a table, which I may add had coffee and tea stains on it at 10am on a Monday. Was this left dirty from the previous day? The woman who gave us the stern look quickly disappeared leaving nobody on the floor and for a good 10 minutes we did not see a member of staff. At the point in which we were about to get up and leave, a young lady came to out table. This is when it got worse. The words that came out of her mouth were “What do yous want?”. Hardly welcoming. I opted for a pot of tea and my partner opened for a water. Surprisingly the tea pot designed for one ones 3! Tea bags in it! Far too strong! And my partners water had to ice? We went up after a further wait of 10 minutes after receiving drinks. I orders the cheese and bacon toastie and my partner went for the same. Big mistake. Once I had ordered these I say back down to a rather quiet dining room. The young girl who served us previous was over heard talking to the older “stern” woman saying “the old GAYS on that table have two toasties on order”. Well I am sorry but this is DISCRIMINATION. This is 2019 and this is still accepted in the work place? At this point I was determined to leave and confront these individuals. But my partner calmned me down and we stayed. I was livid at their point. About 20 minutes later after this, the toasties arrives. Well what can I say. Half of the cheese must have been eaten by either the older or young woman. I’ve seen note cheese on a mousetrap. Neither me or my partner ate 1/2 of them and once the older woman (wish I got her name for future reference) cleared the table we were asked if we would like any note tea. At this point I was not wanting to spend any more money in a place we’re views like this are held. We soon left and will never return, not to the other properties. I will be lodging a formal complaint with the managers of this company as this is not acceptable. As members on the LGBT community this was outright outrageous. And let me tell you. Word will get far about this.

My mum and I had been in this establishment last year and we really enjoyed it so thought we'd return this year. Big mistake. We took our seats and waited to see if someone brought us a menu. No one did so my mum went over to the counter to ask for one. We looked at the menu, decided what we wanted then waited. And waited. Mum had to go back over to ask the girl to take our order. The restroom was quiet at this point. I ordered a cheese and bacon toastie, mum, bacon and brie. The food eventually came over and to say we were disappointed was an understatement. Mine had one tiny piece of bacon, mum's was barely cooked. As it took so long to come and we were hungry, we just ate them and didn't bother to complain as it was just three young girls who were on and looked harassed. I then had to go back up to the counter to ask for mum's scone that she'd ordered but didn't appear to be getting brought over. This took ages. By now, the tearoom was full so we finished up and went over to pay. We stood at the till for just over five minutes, with two of the girls rushing about in the kitchen, making food. Now, I understand that they were under pressure as it was busy now but not once did any of them apologise for our wait and that they would be with us soon. That's all that was required, just a bit of customer service. Instead, we were ignored all that time. We didn't go to the big place in Gretna as it's self service but we would have been as well to as this felt like self service here due to the amount of times we had to go to the counter! The only positive thing I can say is,the scone was nice.

The first house in Scotland! Staff here are friendly and service was quick. It gets busy though so choose your time carefully! Menu was varied but I would recommend the haggis bon bons - as a first timer I was nervous but they were delicious! Lovely photos of the building throughout the years. Overall a well looked after and comfortable venue - could have stayed lounging on the sofa for hours! Plenty of parking round back.

Located directly at the border to Scotland, this cosy cafe is easy to reach if you leave the motorway at Gretna. We had the salmon and bacon sandwiches, both were delicious and not expensive. Cheap drinks as well.

Before travelling home we wanted a quick drink and snack so rather than go to the mass produced type stuff in the local outlet village, we opted for here. So glad we did. The coffee was excellent and the standard of food was good. The staff were very friendly, too.

This was a 70th birthday present and it was amazing. There was so much to eat with a good choice of sandwiches and an amazing choice of cakes and scones. Definitely recommend this place and the friendly helpful staff.

we went for free drinks and breakfast deal with menu saying 7.95. Not only was the plate not even half full, we were over charged at 8.95 each with a drink but did not state it would cost extra as it was the lunch menu. Rude staff member would not let us argue our point as it should have been stated it was going to cost extra after we had already asked if it was the free drinks.

It looks a nice place from the outside with a big car park and to be fair it looked pretty decent on the inside too , a young couple run it but when we had a walk down to it we thought it was closed . Luckily we saw a couple of people thru the window , it was a Sunday about 2.30 and we tried to order food but they said cooking was over for the day and we had to settle for tea and cake .pleasant tho it was a piece of cake when you need something a bit more filling isn't good

We had some tea and uninspiring cakes here. It's quite large and by the main road, so a handy stop off.

Absolutely gutted to find this place had ceased trading, since our last visit in August 22. This hidden gem was part of our journey down south for the past 7 years, after stumbling on it by accident. It offered a hearty meal for a fraction of the price they charge, at a service station

Popped in for a Sunday Guinness to find everyone tucking into ENORMOUS Yorkshire puddings stuffed with braised beef, roast spuds, veg and gravy. We succumbed to the glorious smell of the food and it beat us, hands down, great food, great service. The two girls working in there are gold dust, give them a raise!!

The SWI had our Christmas Meal here this year and pre ordered. I had the turkey and trimmings which was served on a huge platter and three huge slices of turkey. Everything cooked to perfection. I took the apple strudel and ice cream - great ice cream. Everyone enjoyed what they had ordered and a lovely atmosphere, and attentive serving staff who were pleased to see us and cheery.

This cafe has a really distinctive menu for its size with a choice of meat- fish- and plant-based dishes. They were extremely attentive to a very unusual dietary issue which involved them adapting several elements of one of their menu items. Both waiter and chef spoke to me before we settled on a dish. This was all handled in really friendly manner.
