The best restaurants serving British food in Highlands and Islands

Visited twice and got take away cakes which on both occasions were delicious. The scones are fruit, light and fresh. Biscoff cake was especially tasty.

Lovely little place with amazing views. Popped in for a quick coffee to go but fell in love with the scones. There’s fresh scones then there’s these scones honestly I have no words you have to try one!

Excellent service. Staff couldn’t be more helpful. I have certain dietary requirements which they really helped with Not a wide choice but willing to adapt overly atmosphere.

Every time we are in this area we call in for coffee or lunch and we have never been disappointed. Efficient, friendly staff and great service. Previously we've had lovely lunches and this time we had vanilla lattes, soup and a sandwich and I had a roll which was stacked high with black pudding and eggs - sheer perfection! Lovely views from the windows and a great atmosphere. Always worth a visit.

We stay at the hostel next door every year and use the Post office/tearoom for our breakfast each day. Great grub and coffee each morning. Friendly service from the gentleman and lady owners.

Afternoon tea was very nice, the only thing I can say was a problem was trying to find someone when we arrived, it took 10-15 mins to locate someone. We had a very pleasant afternoon and the food was lovely and plentiful. We would happily go back again. Perhaps you need to upgrade your disabled ramp.

Just about always pop in for a nice 😋 treat whenever up here visiting rellies. Very nice food, and can highly recommend the spiced pumpkin cake. Really love the open view looking across to the Orkney Islands , and enjoy watching visitors getting their photographs taken next to the famous signpost. There are lots of interesting things to look at inside too - including local produce & artwork, and the uniquely spooky “ Halloween Tree” .

Such a warm welcome awaits you from all staff at doune braes hotel who go out of their way to make your stay so comfortable. Rooms are comfortable and spotlessly clean. Full Scottish breakfast provided is perfect served by smiling friendly staff. Evening meal was very tasty we had Venison cassoulette followed by sticky toffee pudding perfect after a day walking. The hotel were also very welcoming to our dog and even provided a separate eating area off the main dining room. I still can't understand any negative reviews as yes the hotel maybe a little older but everything is in good order and we had a very relaxing stay. We will definitely be back as soon as possible 😊

Really nice dog friendly cafe with lovely decor, nice food and friendly staff. Service was slow and mistakes were made. Not sure if they were understaffed or a bit disorganised.

Returned for a meal with my wife. The attendant , "Alan" sorted us with a table and even read out the daily specials board as I was too lazy to get up. We selected a few dishes from a very reasonably priced menu and ordered some drinks. I have to say the food was excellent, I had " sizzling chicken frajitas" , and you could hear them sizzling as they left the kitchen, huge portion, and my better half had the stornoway black pudding burger , again huge and both dishes as tasty as tasty can be. All this, complete with a cheeky wee curly fries and pepper sauce . Washed down with some wine and a pint. This bistro/ bar/restaurant and it's staff and food /drink are a credit to the owner, Mr Dale "reilly" Monk. Alan our server and the other staff go that extra mile every time we visit and that is why it's the best in the West. 10/10

Good pint friendly staff, didn't have any food

We were on time for our early evening booking. Amanda and Isla greeted us and seated us at our allotted table. Our first course was a delightful three-variations-on-salmon medley. The butternut squash risotto fulfilled its menu promise. A delicious haddock had to be extricated unwillingly from a spongey wrapper, as the batter hadn't crisped at all. "I'll advise the chef." The accompanying peas were reminiscent of escaped ball bearings. Meanwhile, a European couple had arrived at the adjacent table. Unfamiliar with some of the menu, they were given clear advice. Reluctantly the man resorted to the safety of a burger. When it arrived, he called for attention, as he considered it over-cooked. He was told, as many of the diners will have heard, that "the law of this country is that it must be cooked like that; if it was pink we would be shut down." We left shortly after.

Do not recommend this hotel, The only good thing I can say about this hotel is that the breakfast view is amazing. The rooms are very dirty and has black mould and water damage in the bathrooms, and the flush on the toilet barely worked. There was also pee on the walls in the bathroom. The door handles are loose and the floors uneven. Our room smelled like fresh paint but they only painted over the things they don’t want you to see. We had to sleep with the windows open because we got nauseous due to the smell. Breakfast was included but the coffee was weaker than tea, and the food tasteless. A few of the staff was nice but they couldn't help with much. No sound isolation either, had a hard time sleeping because there was so much noise from other rooms. I’m not even sure this hotel is safe to stay at. Do not recommend, keep driving or sleep in the car.

All of our dishes were delicious. The grilled sea bass was excellent.

Great food , reasonable prices , fantastic and friendly service . Definitely coming back here served by a lovely lady called Jackie
