We visited for breakfast and there is a wide range of dishes available, however we opted for the Scottish breakfast which was filling, tasty and worth a try. Plenty of seating and dog friendly.

Located just a few yards from the John O’Groats sign the cafe has excellent views over the sea to the Orkneys viewed through full length windows. Service was quick and friendly. The Scottish breakfast is brilliantly done, see photo, sausage, haggis and tatie scone particularly worth a mention. Not cheap but Good value. We’ll be back tomorrow

Nice cafe to stop at, right on the front at John O groats, with views over the harbour and out to sea. Great selection of hot and cold food and drinks. Cafe is clean, and the staff all friendly

We were excited to be at John ‘O’ Groats but very hungry. There were three places to choose from to eat, and this looked like the nicest. The good points - it was clean, the staff were friendly and it had a good view. The bad points - my son couldn’t finish his ‘steak burger’ it reminded him of something you would hear in the microwave and believe me, for him not to finish a burger, it must have been bad! I ordered the chicken fillet burger, it genuinely looked like I had two large chicken nuggets in a roll! Definitely not fillet! For the price they are charging, I expected more. (£14:95 for a burger and chips…)

I recently visited John O Groats on a touring holiday in the north. It was a long term ambition of mine. Whilst there I visited this cafe/restaurant for lunch. I ate a vegan spicy bean burger with fries. After that I had a cake. All were excellent. Staff were pleasant and friendly. Service was good, portion sizes generous. The place itself had wonderful views and I enjoyed my visit.

This cafe has a great outlook over the sea and harbour with seating both and out. Unfortunately, the wind and showers meant that our visit was a sit inside experience. Plenty of delicious cakes on offer but we settled for just the coffee on this occasion. Lovely little place!

Right on the coast of the Pentland Firth, this relatively new café was impressive and a real highlight of our memorable but brief visit to John O’ Groats. There was ample parking nearby, offering spaces for every type of vehicle including electric and thankfully for us, motorhomes. We paid for it inside the Groatie Buckie Gift Shop and it was only £2.00. The café itself was fresh, atmospheric and clean. There were great views over the Firth and even to Orkney, which we could just make out given the weather conditions. For us, it was clear to see that the business prided itself on promoting local produce, and we were lucky enough to taste it. Arriving for breakfast, my wife had the Vegetarian Filled Roll while I opted for the standard three-filling Roll. Our son had Toast and we ordered some Coffees and a Chocolate Milkshake. Everything was spot on - all cooked well and tasted like it had proper, hearty ingredients and not processed ones. Breakfast can very much make or break a day. On this occasion, there was no doubt it had made it. We were lucky enough to have some great Breakfasts on our NC500 adventure and this was up there with the best of them. In total, it cost £24.10 (plus a tip), so good on the cost side as well!

Prices reasonable, service good, food very good. We had been in Scotland last year and tried Cafe Groat again. It was again excellent, service was quick, gluten free diet was catered for. The owner gave us his personal attention on occasions but when he was elsewhere we had a terrific waitress who could memorise our order from the previous day. No doubt Kayla gives the same personal attention to everyone but gives the impression that the customer she is dealing with is the only one who matters. Cafe Groat is thoroughly recommended, especially the Seafood Chowder.

Prices reasonable, service good, food very good. When my wife was served the wrong food, the owner, Mr Mowat, personally came to the table, apologised and within minutes, personally brought the correct food. We had a further two days in John O'Groats so had five meals there altogether - a superb cafe.

Cafe Groats has a fantastic menu and has beautiful views over the Pentland Firth to the Orkney Islands. The lobster rolls are awesome and loaded with lobster at a very reasonable price.

Amazing food!!!! The portions are huge and quality excellent. At first we were put off by the price, however once you receive the food and taste it, certainly worth every penny. Super friendly staff and really clean. Wish it was closer.

Perfect cafe with stunning views. We popped in for a cuppa to warm up after being typical tourists and taking all the photos! The cafe is large, sits in an amazing location with great views over the signpost and sea. Food a little pricey, but to be expected in the location you’re in. We only had drinks and made use of their toilet facilities. Would recommend.

This place has great food and suoer staff. My scallops were awesome, and the chowder was great too. Presumably the best food in the area.

We had an early dinner here, and breakfast the following morning. For dinner we had the scallops with chips and salad, lovely food and great value for money compared to prices we have been charged else where. Breakfast was great to and the view is just something else. Nice people doing a great job.

We stayed at the nearby campsite on our NC500 trip and had a lovely hot chocolate and slice of rocky road on the day of our arrival. Dog friendly which was an added bonus. Lovely clean modern place. Found out that they did breakfast from 9am until 11.30 so decided to go for it next morning. All the usual suspects on a breakfast plate, bright yellow/orange yolk on the runny yolk of the fried egg, the bacon tasted extra special quality in my view. Lovely bit of haggis, and I inherited the other half’s slice of black pudding as well as my own, not overdone and exactly how I like it. I would eat breakfast here every day and twice on a Sunday it was so good. No hesitation in recommending it. Great prompt service too.

Delicious food and quick service. We had lobster Mac and cheese and the lobster roll, both nice and generous portions :) We also ordered the loaded fries which were good but not needed in addition to the meals. Good view of the sign from the cafe.

I've spent a week trying out various meals at Cafe Groats along with the local beers. This isn't a regular cafe. The food comes out well presented and tasty simular to a restaurant. The Lobster Mac&Cheese and the Scallops have to be favourites so far. Great food, fantastic view out to sea, staff always so happy and helpful. Look forward to returning again.

We have eaten at Cafe Groats many times this summer. We have had breakfast rolls, haddock and chips, seafood salads, burger meals and macaroni. All dishes have been very fresh and tasty. The coffee is good too. They will make a child sized portion for younger eaters. The cafe is kept spotlessly clean and all staff are welcoming and friendly.

My local bar when I'm in Inverness and although it's not the most glamorous of places, it's got plenty of screens for the sport, a beer garden with play area for kids, a pool table (which is free on Mondays and Tuesdays!) and good craic with the regulars.
