Afternoon tea was very nice, the only thing I can say was a problem was trying to find someone when we arrived, it took 10-15 mins to locate someone. We had a very pleasant afternoon and the food was lovely and plentiful. We would happily go back again. Perhaps you need to upgrade your disabled ramp.

Too pricy for average food nothing to shout about. I will not be going back, they leave you in the bar for ages before anyone arrives.

service excellent, carvery, false advertising it was just a set menu. beef was chewy, veg was under cooked and hard. nut roast was spot on. we were the only people in and the chef still got it wrong. unbelievable. We complained and got our meals for free. didn't expect that but good on them. Shame!!! expectations were high but we were left disappointed.

We have stayed in the Knockomie a couple of times, most recently three years ago, and we enjoyed it, it was comfortable Highland hotel with a restaurant to match. We were staying elsewhere this time and booked the restaurant on a Sunday evening. The hotel proudly boasts that the dining room is less formal but if you want to serve tapas and burgers with waiters clad in jeans, more popular pubs in Forres do it better. The service was terrible even though the restaurant had suggested the time, 19.30. We got there just before time, had a drink in the bar and waited. Eventually we enquired whether we could see a menu, a miserable piece of paper, Any restaurant that has changed its menu to serve tapas is on the way out. We waited again, could we have a table? Yes, sit anywhere you like. We finally received out starter (bread) at 20.20. The food was not too bad but the management has destroyed the ambience of what used to be a great restaurant.

I just love eating in this place, I always go to bed feeling that warm glow of being very slightly overfed, and sleep soundly in the hotel, ready for a mighty breakfast, I personally love a little haggis with my eggs!

You are well looked after by cheerful staff from the moment you arrive for dinner. Drinks were recommended and served promptly. The menu offers many wide and varied choices. My starter was the chicken liver parfait which was served with a beautiful fig chutney and a lovely toasted poppy seed bread. The chicken liver parfait was a little under seasoned but this was my only criticism of the entire meal. I then moved on to a main of seared and confit rabbit with pue lentils, pancetta, fondant potatoes and carrots. absolutely stunning meal, every mouthful was earthy and delicious. For pudding, well, a deliciously creamy white chocolate cheesecake on a cookie base with a side of raspberry and vodka sorbet and a sweet mint syrup. The cheesecake was a little too much for me to handle but was absolutely divine...hence why I ate it all anyway. Absolutely loved that sorbet too! We finished up our meal with a delightful boozy coffee. Tia Maria coffee topped with rich double cream. Amazing. I would thoroughly recommend.

Grand little building with a warm atmosphere inside, very good selection of drinks behind the waiting-bar and upon the menue (both Scottish and not). Service was mediocre at best, especially if you take into account what you would expect from a place like this, had my foot trodden on, chair bumped numerous times, our dessert silverware came out a few minutes after all the desserts had arrived etc etc Olives that came out came un-dressed, even though they were advertised as marinated, the 'fresh homemade bread' that came with the (very delicious) soup was in-fact a super thin-almost slice of what looked and tasted like standard shop-bought sliced white. The Trout Risotto was amazing although on the very-cool side of warm. After a couple of bites I was very glad about the taste as it had lost all temperature, asparagus was undercooked but the fish was perfect. Overall lots of little things letting what should have been a very top-notch experience..

Nice old style scottish manner building with lovely entrance and grounds. Were a little early and was asked if we would like to sit at bar or have drinks in waiting room. Waiting room very homely and orders were taken for drinks and meals. Impression was to impress rather than satisfy. after 15 minutes were shown through to table and seated. Up market service was given. Meals arrived in timely fashion. Some of meals were a little underdone but edible. Steaks were advertised in menu as "hung for three weeks", but a couple of the steaks were definatley not prepared this way as they less tender than others that were served at the same table. Mood music was maybe a little too softly played in background. Overall, a clean and well presented place but a little too high class and expensive for the experience.

Our evening at Knockomie last month was a wonderful experience - we were truly looked after by all the staff there, including Jasmin (who was just finishing her shift but remembered us from our very small wedding party meal there last year), John (who could not do enough to make our evening extra special, such attention to detail and very attentive) and another fabulous member of staff who was so pleasant and discreet and made a lovely Martini lemonade (so sorry can't remember name!). The food was absolutely delicious and we both enjoyed every mouthful - goes without saying we found room for 3 courses! Thank you all once again for a special night and wonderful memories, hope to see you again very soon!

Yasmin and her colleagues looked after us very well indeed for what was a celebration dinner at which we were guests. The a la carte menu provided ample choice on a single sheet of paper, which is changed by the chef depending on local ingredients available. It is also available on the Web which prevents dithering guests spending hours making up their minds on arrival! I have no idea of the cost involved, however I would certainly consider using the Knockomie's restaurant facilities, particularly where they can set up a private dining room for a small group, in view of the combination of attentive service, and well-presented, and well-cooked food.

Food, especially roast beef cooked to perfection and really was melt in the mouth. Our highest praise must go to the staff nothing to much bother and exactly as some others have mentioned very very attentive but also discreet enough for us to feel relaxed and enjoy a special family get together Thank you everyone at Knockomie

Dined at Knockomie this evening and it was fantastic. The service had the perfect balance of discreet yet attentive with things like another slice of lovely homemade bread appearing on my plate seemingly by magic. I enjoyed a lovely Cullen Skink to start and amazing melt in the mouth MacBeths Butchers beef for main with vanilla scented mash which was a perfect compliment. Can't wait to go back and enjoy some more fabulous food.

We had a lovely meal at the Knockomie. We didn't consider it superb, but it was well priced and good. The restaurant is a bit dark and impersonal. We learned a lot about the neighouring tables marital problems unintentionally! All in all a nice night out at a fair price, but nothing really special.

We dined at the knockomie for my birthday and were having a lovely time, until we started talking to the owner (after paying our expensive bill!) who was talking about business etc, she then began telling us what the hotel used to be like, white linen tablecloths, napkins and the like, but they'd had to lower their standards for people like ourselves. How rude, I will never darken their doorstep again.

Depends what you're going for! We stayed in this hotel and ate there one evening. Treated ourselves to what we thought would be something special - it wasn't! The food was disappointing and not of the quality I expected for the price we paid. It might be better value when you're eating the special lunches and evening meals, as the food is good but need to up the standards on the more expensive items folks, they should be as described - exquisite!

Very surprised by previous comments. We were a party of six and the service, food and atmosphere were absolutely fineWe were warmly welcomed by a delightful South African lady and offered seats in the bar or reception area by an open fire - Scotland -February we chose the fire.Aperitifs were ordered and delivered promptly and menus presented. The dining room was pleasant -old fashioned ,yes but that is part of the charm of the place. There was a limited menu featuring local ingredients but varied enough to please all of us .We all had 3 courses and all professed themseves well satisfied , particularly with the slow braised beef which was superb.Decent selection of reasonably priced wines and a very pleasant evening was rounded off with an entertaining chat with our waitress.

Ate here for my 40th very disappointed, house and setting as lovely as ever but food tasteless, I had the duck with truffle sauce, didn't taste of anything and duck a bit chewy, my mum had pork which was also bland and quite coldFor desert I had the frozen souffle, chocolate, which hardly tasted of anything again with a strange gelatinous slab on the side which looked lovely, marbled dark brown, but was just tasteless thick jellyWe did complain and they gave us so drinks for free but didn't make up for the dissappointment as it was supposed to be a special meal

I had fond memories of this country house hotel from two decades ago and was surprised at how dowdy it has become.I must emphasise that I did not stay the night, so I have only commented about the loungebar, sitting area, dining room and of course "The Loo's" with grocers' apostrophe.I have marked the rooms and sleep quality with a rating of 4, thereby giving this establishment the benefit of the doubt regarding the rooms and sleep quality. The decor downstairs is twee, tired, dark and languishing in a Laura Ashley timewarp circa the mid1980s. This place is begging for a decent interior designer who can spell correctly. The hotel was similar to what I imagined the decks of the Marie Celeste to have been like(now I think I know why). There was our small gathering and 2 waiting staff,no sign of a chef.No-one.I had the Guinea Fowl stuffed with black pudding. The supreme of a Guinea fowl arrived overstuffed with a black overspiced mush, accompanied by two tiny slices of reheated roast potato and a 4 inch length of tough stringy leek divided in two.All served on a huge plate that only emphasised the pretentious Nouvelle Cuisine, poorly executed.Maybe it had all been reheated which may have explained the lengthy absence of the 2 staff and the non existent chef?My friends had the steak and the chips, the few chips looked as if they had been refried several times.I had chosen the chocolat fondant and was eagerly anticipating an unctious gooey chocolate confection, hoping the invisible chef was a keen dessert maker. The dessert was true to form.Disappointing. It was basically a small lump of very dry chocolate sponge baked in a ramekin.placed on a huge dish with a teaspoonful of icecream and a squirt of canned cream at the side.Has the chef lost the will to live?judging by the offering served up on this occassion he needs to be coaxed back to life again and bring back the standard of food that Knockomie was famous for, previously.I always remember the glorious views from this once lovely hotel and now it is like living next door to a sprawling council estate, with houses threatening to gobble up this hotel.Let's hope they don't get severe indigestion,if they avoid the Guinea Fowl and the Chocolat fondant, they might just do so.

As someone one else has pointed out, it’s now called the Spey Inn. Was there earlier this week for lunch as in area and parents recommended it from a visit a year or so ago. It was quiet but we got a friendly welcome from the two members of staff. My parents commented on the size of the menu which has apparently changed and did seemed limited in choices. 3 of us ordered the Cullen Skink soup. It tasted fine but not much fish ands lots of potatoes. Three of us then had sandwiches, the Club sandwich was very good, well filled with bacon, tomato etc and was tasty. Me and my mum both had the egg mayonnaise sandwich. It looked different in that it was 2 whole slices of toast which I thought may have been included in the description. That said I can live with this, however what was very unusual and disappointing was the quantity of filling in these two sandwiches. It appeared that there was a smear of egg mayo as in the quantity of butter you would spread on a slice of bread (and in this case it was spread onto 2 slices of thick toast). Without exaggerating it appeared that 1 egg had been used to fill 2 sandwiches . The salad that accompanied it was nice and the fish and chips the other member of our group had was apparently good. We did mention it to the server who said he’d mention our views to the chef, but it just seemed odd. We also mentioned to a member of staff at an early stage of our visit, that there was no soap in the gents toilets (you could clearly see the soap dispenser was empty when you walked in), however when leaving some time later this had not been rectified, despite the fact the restaurant was not busy. It wasn’t a cheap lunch and it was fairly disappointing overall. Unless this was a one off, don’t think I would return.
