We had a lovely lunch, everything was perfect; the asthonishing view, the nice setting, the sea food platter, the friendly service, even the music was great. Would definitely book here if ever I come back to Skye!

This restaurant was part of our hotel that we stayed at, The Flodigarry hotel. We ate here our first night, and we loved it so much, that we decided to eat here each subsequent night. The oysters were so fresh. We tried several different ones, my husband really enjoyed them and came back for seconds the following night. The lobster was good although maybe slightly rubbery. Scallops were wonderful. Beef was also good. We sat at the front table with great views out to sea.

Aperitief moesten we dus zelf verzinnen. Goedkoopste fles was 50€!.

My husband & I found this restaurant online & the menu sounded amazing. The setting is beautiful, however the service from the start was poor. We had to ask for a glass of water. The prices, which we knew about in advance, indicated that the food would be above your standard fare. We ordered 6 natural oysters at 18 pounds. They arrived with no lemon. 5 of the oysters were delicious, however one smelled & a small taste indicated that it was off hence neither of us were willing to eat further. I told this to the wait staff. For mains I ordered 1/2 lobster & forager salad at 55 pounds expecting a truly delicious fresh tasty meal. What arrived was an overcooked, tough, tasteless lobster, a few pieces of lettuce & chopped tomatoes. I had to ask for a piece of lemon. It was inedible & I returned it uneaten. I was offered another meal however my husband has started his meal & to be honest I had lost confidence in the food options. My husband had halibut which was tasty but at 52 pounds not worth the money. We were understandably not charged for the lobster but all up found this to be a incredibly disappointing experience. We were pleasant at all times & found the response inadequate. On paying the bill we were surprised at the lack of apology & acknowledgement.

I booked Flodigarry for a family birthday last week. I was actually there for my own 21st a few years ago now so was looking forward to going back. Unfortunately however it is now hugely overpriced for extremely small averagely cooked portions. We had Scallops for a starter, 3 medium sized ones for £21 which were tasty enough but scallops always are. The main courses on the menu range from £36 for the vegetarian option to £56 for the steak. I opted for the "rack of lamb" as did my sister at £47 each. My mother had the monkfish with 1 langoustine. At £47 , I was very disappointed to recieve 1 bone of a rack of lamb which should have been better described on the menu as a single lamb chop not a rack. Probably the most expensive lamb chop in the country. The langoustine was also poorly cooked and watery. Anyway it was a disappointing visit saved by freindly staff and some of the best views in the world. It is a pity I feel that the restaurant is taking advantage of their residents, maybe because there is no other place to eat for a few miles. I am local to Skye myself so there are many great places to eat on the Island before I will empty my bank balance back here.

Bit of a mixed experience, but the main take away was that it was vastly overpriced for what you got, and the kitchen / chef was taking the micky. We went for lunch, which when we arrived we found was a reduced menu as they were closing for the season in two weeks' time - two starters available (scallops or soup) and three mains (scallops, casserole or a selection of sandwiches). No problem with the reduced menu, but it would be good to advise customers of this when you book, or on the website, so you can decide if you're happy with this before booking. The casserole was supposed to come with a pastry crust and bread. We all ordered this, and once it was brought to the table the waitress told us that only one of the 4 meals had pastry (two very small disks), as they had run out. She said the kitchen hadn't told her this, and offered us additional bread instead which we accepted - but what was the kitchen thinking serving up an incomplete dish without even asking if we minded or wanted to order an alternative? The casseroles were nice, but really rather small, and definitely not worth £19 each, even if they'd come complete. I felt hard done by. Half the party was hungry again an hour later. The person who served us was very pleasant.

Very nice restaurant in traditional country style and in a very nice and secluded location. The audience rather in evening dress and the staff a bit in rasta-punk style. We liked it right away. At the price level, you could almost expect star cuisine. However, service and cuisine are far behind this level. The waitress was initially annoyed that we asked her for details of the meal's preparation. The seafood platter (£70 p.p.) came without oysters and caviar. The "Best Highland Beef (born and matured in Skye - fattened on the Black Isle)" was completely fried gray despite being ordered medium. It is really sad how lovelessly ingredients of this quality can be ruined. The other meals were not the best either. They wanted to redo the steak, then after it didn't come after another 30 minutes, I no longer had any desire and just wanted to leave. The only positive thing then was goodwill. I did not have to pay for platters nor beef.

It was the only restaurant taking bookings on a Monday evening. It's not that far from Portree but due to the nature of the road it can feel like a lot further; the turning off the main road to reach the restaurant itself is via a bumpy potholed road so not one for sports cars. The service was excellent and the staff couldn't have been friendlier or more helpful. The food, though expensive, is well worth it.

No one to greet us on arrival. We were staying locally and so not resident. An excellent meal somewhat let down by a lack of staff training. The venison main course arrived for one as opposed to two. We were asked if we were sharing it! At £38 some people might but we had ordered two. On its return it was a little too cool. The plates had not been heated. Requests for refills of water were forgotten. The wine was billed as 2 glasses instead of a bottle. We had this corrected. A lack of attention to detail was evident throughout.

We booked a table for the restaurant expecting an evening of fine dining at a country hotel. When we arrived the place was in darkness. We had to use our phone torches to find our way to the front door, to find an empty reception. We followed the sound of a voice to reach the bar where were told that this is where we would be served. There were no apologies for this and we were shown to a bare table by the coathook and door and handed menus offerring a more limited range of dishes than those on the website but similarly priced with first courses about £15+ and courses of £40+. It did not take us long to realize that our expectations were being vastly undermet. We were somewhat annoyed that the hotel had accepted our booking despite being completely unable to deliver on what was being offerred on the website, and that even when we had arrived, had made no effort to apologise for their failure. We cancelled our booking and made an exit.

If you are only going to offer soup, it should at least be good soup. Why wouldn't there be big pots already? Took over an hour and then came just warm, not hot, and not even tasty. The fish soup with not-fresh fish and was the worst I've ever had and my husband could hardly eat his onion soup. The bread wasn't even good. The place needs a good facelift. The log over the bar was very attractive though. Sad to say, Never Again!

We stumbled across Flodigarry while we were looking for somewhere to grab lunch and saw the sign for their Soup Kitchen. As soon as we walked in, sodden from the rain, along with our large German Shepherd, we were warmly greeted and told the whole hotel was dog friendly, so we could sit in the restaurant with our dog while we ate! When we were seated, we were given a menu of approximately a dozen different soups to choose from, suitable for vegetarians and meat eaters. The menu explained exactly what was in the soup, to the extent of what stock was used. I choose the French Onion Soup and my partner choose The Pea and Pie Soup. The Onion Soup came with a massive cheese crouton and the pea soup had an actual full steak pie in it! The soups were amazing and worth every penny, filling us up for the rest of the day. Our dog was given fresh water, tables were moved to let him lie down and he was given plenty of treats and cuddles from staff and other customers! Flodigarry is one of the top dog friendly places we have been to.The whole hotel and grounds are stunning, while the staff are warm and just brilliant people.I would definitely recommend dining here-we are even looking at staying a few nights here next time we visit the area as we felt, along with our dog, so welcomed here.

Visited last year and had a great reception and meal. This years visit was disappointing as although the food was still superb the service standard had dropped and entry to the hotel was through the bar as the main entrance was shut due to the rain! We were greeted with the comment "hello boys" maybe a contemporary welcome but it felt too familiar and did not give the impression of being a valued client. Staff uniforms were OK with neat black logo shirts but less smart black jeans, however to hear staff swear in the background was uninviting. Superior room was small and the TV did not work. Less special than last visit so will not be returning

As Skye residents this wouldn't have been our first thought for an evening out but we were really delighted that we made the effort. The menu is one of the pricier ones I've seen on offer this year however they do offer 2 fixed price options at the back of the menu (3 courses for £36 or £60). Great to find a menu not offering fancy fish & chips / steak / mussels only. The pea soup starter was so much more than a bowl of soup! This proved a very relaxing setting. Staff were very attentive but occasionally hard to locate.

We stopped at the Flodigarry for lunch , without realising that all that was on offer was soup . We were hungry so decided just to stay . What ridiculous prices for a bowl of soup ... it is promoted as started from scratch with own stock etc , which is nice . The soups were ok , I had the 'Scottish onion ' which was tasty but a tin of Baxters french onion soup is easily it's equal and so so much cheaper. Four soups and four bottles of coke came to nearly £52 ... what a rip off . Give this one a swerve unless you have more money than sense ... which clearly I did in a moment of hunger madness.

Service possibly a bit slow and inexperienced but everyone was friendly and we weren't in a rush. As with the hotel stay we found the bar and waiting staff weren't particularly proactive in meeting our needs but very happy to help when/if asked; which we prefer anyway. Food was excellent and generous, we had been doing some long walks so were very hungry and slightly worried that fine dining might mean small portions, but in this case it didn't. I wrote a rave review of this place in 2014. Unfortunately the Dutch owners who were the owners back then and are still in charge today have made the mistake of changing most of the Hotel and Restaurant from a traditional old Scottish Castle into some new fangled, contemporary gaff, that we have in every city in the UK nowadays. You no longer feel as if you are in some isolated outpost on the Isle of Skye. Even the Scottish staff have been replaced by foreigners. Gone is the Tartan and complimentary dram of whisky that once greeted you in reception now replaced by White Formica and a selection of Gins. The food was ok but a little overpriced but the atmosphere has completely left the place. Most of the clientele were European and therefore made no effort to dress for dinner as was always the case during our previous visits .. I have always loved the Flodigarry but I will probably never visit again.. What a shame..

We stayed in the hotel and booked a table for the night. We explained we were ate a vegan diet to the servers. They came through with a list of food that the kitchen could make for us.We chose a veg sushi roll starter which came out covered in dairy. We explained to the server that this was not correct so they washed the plate and put the sushi back onto it, which was now soaked through with the water. Also one of the sushi rolls contained dairy which they never removed and just left on the plate. 3 pieces of damp sushi for 9 pounds and we could only eat 2 pieces as the 3rd contained dairy. we were not impressed. We chose a mushroom stroganoff with rice for or main course. It wasn't until we pointed out that the starters contained dairy that the server checked that the main would also contain dairy so they offered it with soya milk instead of cream which was good. The main was lovely. although we were slightly hesitant that the staff actually knew what a vagan diet was.We didn't bother with a desert as it seemed like too much hassle and didn't feel relaxed in the room with all that had went on before. This is a nice place and nice hotel, Although I feel the staff definitely need training on allergy intolerances especially when they are charging extortionate prices. We expected fresh sushi rolls to be made up and for none of them to contain dairy.we wont be going back here.We also ate breakfast here in the morning and the only options we could have for a cooked breakfast were potato scones and tomatoes as they didn't have any mushrooms. We were given 1 and a half potato scones and half a tomato each. I cant see how this is supposed to fill anyone up. especially with the price we paid for the accommodation.

We were staying in nearby Staffin with limited dining options and no wifi. Came to the Inn to enjoy their more casual "bar area" for drinks then dinner. We dis not have a reservation but they were able to accommodate us. suggest to other travelers to make reservation in advance. Views overlooking water are great. Building is beautiful. "Bar" restaurant is cozy.Cons:Wine was on the more pricey side. White wine is not served chilled (!)Wifi was not very reliable. We had read there is a more casual pub menu, which there is not (were given same Carte as the more formal restaurant)Pros:Despite these few things, we would totally come back because the seafood platter was so good! We were two for dinner and not too hungry, so ordered a "starter size" seafood sharing platter for 2 (27 pounds total) and a camembert fondue main to share. The platter was great value and very big, we were full from that! Brings a variety of smoked fish, of caviar, of scallops, oysters, etc. 2 of each item so very much easy to share. (They also have other types of platters for those less seafood inclined). Fondue was nice as well. And other dishes looked tasty - they sell selves as hunters and fishers, so many seafood plates as well as venison, etc.

This is undoubtedly the poshest place to dine on the island. We simply came for the views and coffee. The manager was friendly and personable. Did not reserve dinner as the prices were way outside of our range.

Morgenmad a la carte var helt i top!Vi kommer helt sikkert gerne igen.

Last time here the hotel had just been taken over by the owners who have spent a great deal of money and taken a lot of care in improving it. The hotel is in a fantastic location and it would be lovely to sit on the terrace on a warm summer's evening - if possible without midgies!!! We arrived around 1.30 and asked about afternoon tea but they don't serve it until 3pm so we ate a club sandwich instead! The bar was quite busy and the staff were friendly and chatty without being intrusive. It would be nice to return for afternoon tea on our next trip.

As the newest residents to arrive in this delightful crofting community of Flodigarry, we were treated to a very special evening on the opening night of the hotel's 2016 season (having closed for a substantial and very tasteful makeover during the winter months). The result was a quite beautiful evening with our family guests, as we were all treated like VIPs by all of the hotel staff (from owner to chef). As for the fine dining experience, it was absolutely stunning: haut cuisine of the highest quality, attentively ordered, prepared and served. With fine wine selections to savour, this was a perfectly wonderful first visit to our neighboring hotel ... but it certainly won't be our last. We'll be back again and again! Thanks Bette and your friendly and talented team for a memorable night out.

While staying at the hotel we dined at Flodigary. The food was amazing. The seafood was delicious and the meat was tender. Could have ate more. Their idea of being able to order a selection of starter or mains is a great idea and definitely value for money! Would dine here again. Dogs are allowed in the bar area too - which is great as we had two 5 month old Golden Retrievers with us and they just slept under the table while we ate.

We stayed 2 nights in the double room over the entrance, which was very good with great views. We did feel it was overpriced at over £100 each per night. Breakfast was average, with not much choice, there is no jam, for example and no decaf coffee. We had hoped to have a bar meal on Sunday (nothing else in the neighbourhood is open) but weren't told we had to book a table, so we ended up not eating anything. When we saw that starters cost £22 and mains £26 we weren't that hungry anyway.(No pub meals available, only the same menu as the restaurant) There was no tourist info for the area in our room, phone did not seem to be working and Wifi password I had to go and ask what it was, wifi signal good. Slightly bonkers interior decoration. Lovely large bath and plenty of hot water, good tea/coffee making facilities. Nice 4poster bed!

Limited menu very expensive having to pay same price to eat in the bar as fit the main restaurant. Only thing value for money was the cheese board. First morning several guests left dining room because length of time they were waiting on their breakfast and they were going on a tripDisappointed in the room we were given having paid £660 for 3 nights. Had asked for twin room in cottage to accommodate two females and a dog but given double with a put up bed. When complained not much interested.said hotel was full. However told booking.com that they only had two twin room in the cottages and they were already allocated to other this was what a put up bed was in the room. They had plenty of time to come back to us so we could book elsewhere. Would never go back again what a rip off.

Visited for lunch after reading a fantastic write-up in the local magazine. Spectacular building and views. Lunch was only available in the bar area which had 2 workers wielding drills doing something to the entranceway who kindly moved to one side to allow us in!Setting in bar was fine but we were subjected to some way out rock music which was clearly the taste of the bar staff. It was not until I questioned whether this was the 'usual' background music that it was changed (after one of the drill wielding workers said that it was not the usual music)!Menu was fine but not cheap. No problem there but you then expect the food and service to reflect the prices. A gentleman on another table and I ordered the salmon platter. When it arrived 2 of the stated accompaniments (a salad and a horseradish sauce) were both missing and after requesting them they arrived 10 minutes later. My wife ordered the mussels which arrived with a knife and spoon! No fork or special mussels knife arrived. I complained afterwards and was told by a surly waiter that they had lost a chef. Not what a customer wants to hear and no excuse anyway. Having left the bar (bill with drinks over £30 - no reduction or coffee/drink offered by way of compensation)we went looking for the owner. Found him (charming man) and recounted our story. He may well be making a wonderful job of restoring the building but the dining side will fail dismally unless he deals with all the staffing, preparation and service details. As an aside we visited later in our trip the Glenfinnan House hotel near Fort William and ordered virtually the same. It was beautifully prepared and presented. He could do worse than pay a visit there to see how it should be done!

I am local to the area and I have visited Flodiggary to eat on 3 occasions in the Skye Bar, taking guests, and I will not be returning or recommending it because:- During each visit the service has been slow if none existent, each time I have entered the bar there has been no one there, I have had to shout out to see if anyone was there, during the meal me or one of my party to get up and find a waiter/waitress- The serving staff haven't been trained in customer service and look like they have had a hard night out each time I have been- The menu is confusing, on admission of the waitress no one understands it and it has to be explained each time- Each time I have been they have not had the most basic things such as tea or many of the beers in stock- Over the last 6 months the prices have risen extortionately to exploit the tourist market, there is certainly no incentive for locals to visit or to take their guests- The food is not cooked properly - the langoustines I ate were over cooked and cod undercooked- I made a reservation taking guests and the table was not ready and no one had my name noted.Skye is a small island that relies on reputations and customer service, not only for tourists but for locals.Sadly this is a place that seeks to make the most profit with the most minimum of effort.

We were booked to stay at the Flodigarry, but were notified one week prior to our arrival that there was an error in booking and they couldn't accommodate us. They gave us a free dinner for 4 for their error, and helped us get accommodations at a lovely, small B&B nearby. The people were kind and helpful, the food was average.

Gesagt, getan!

We chanced upon this place when we were doing the drive from Portree and around the eastern end of Isle of Skye when we wanted to stop over for lunch. It was gorgeous, it sits on the hill overlooking the sea. There wasnt much people when we arrived as lunch starts only at 1pm if memory serves me right. The lunch was great, when it was 1230pm or so, people started to stream in and by the time lunch was served, this place was full and its easy to know why. Food was brilliant! And it was very affordable, coupled with great service, friendly owner and great views, what more can you ask for! Next time round, we would want to stay in this hotel too!! Thank you for everything, me and my family enjoyed it thoroughly!

We ate at the flodigarry hotel during our stay on Skye. Among other meals (seafood) we ordered a scotch beef with asparagus. The beef was good, but we paid 12£ for a very small amount of meat (perhaps 50g) and two small asparagus, which disappointed us. The seafood was very good, although the servings were in general quite small for the price we paid. The location is definitely recommendable, its gardens feel like an oasis on the barren lands of Skye. The staff was a bit passive too, a bit unprofessional.

This review is for the High Tide restaurant at the Flodigarry Hotel. This restaurant appears twice in TripAdvisor, once as High Tide and once as Dining at Flodigarry - they're the same place, so I'm leaving this review under both. We actually ate at the Skye Bar, which serves the same menu as the restaurant. First of all, I have to say this is a fine dining establishment. Not pretentious, we were casually dressed (jeans), but if you're looking for huge portions at a low price, you might be disappointed. The food, however, is excellent. The appetizers, main courses, and desserts were all prepared with fresh ingredients (bread was freshly baked as well), delicious, and wonderfully presented. Yes, the portions are modest enough that you can have the three courses and still leave not overstuffed. You can take that as a plus or a minus, depending on your dining preferences. We spent about 220 pounds on dinner for 5 adults, including appetizers, mains, desserts and drinks (June 2015). This is not a budget restaurant for travelers looking for an inexpensive meal. It IS an excellent place to eat an awesome meal, better than any other restaurant I've seen in Skye, comparable to the best ones in London with prices twice as high.

Had lunch at Flodigarry and although the ingredients used were of good quality the meal was let down by the total lack of any seasoning and the tasteless sauces. We recently visited Skye and had been looking forward to having a meal at Flodigarry Country House Hotel after several recommendations from friends. We arrived on Tuesday lunchtime to be greeted by a friendly girl who said the chefs had been given the day off as they had been busy over Easter. Disappointed we asked if lunch would be being served on the Thursday of the same week and were told that it would. We duly made the trip back to the hotel on Thursday and spent a good 5 minutes trying to find a member of staff. Eventually we were told that the kitchen was closed that day! Needless to say we didn't try a third time and will not visit again. Poor show!

My parents live on the Isle of Skye and for my mothers 88th birthday treat we took her to the Flodigarry Country House Hotel for dinner. It has always been a favourite place with our family. It has changed over the years from a wonderful, welcoming pub where there were frequent ad hoc ceilidh's and lovely food to the current bar/restaurant. The current owners have refurbished it beautifully. Both my parents are elderly and with a disability. We sat at the only round table and we were asked if we could move the table so that staff could get round us! Should this not be done prior to service? My husband was then asked to move his car to the main car park. It would seem that they do not have spaces for cars carrying people with disabilities displaying a blue badge. The car was moved. We then looked at the menu. I couldn't believe the prices!! The minimum price was for a vegetarian meal of sweet potato with mushrooms, polenta and something else which I can't remember. Both my husband and I ordered this. How disappointed were we when it arrived!! There were 4 small dollops of deep fried sweet potato with some small mushrooms and a small amount of an unidentifiable sauce. It was beautifully presented but this meal cost £18!! It was OK but certainly not a gastronomic masterpiece. My mum had lamb which was well presented and she said it was nice and dad had pork. Dad was still hungry after his meal but the price of the desserts put him off having one. They started at £8.25! The price for 4 meals, 1 dessert, 3 pints of beer, 1 glass of wine and a tonic water was £123! This is not a central London dining establishment, nor does the food warrant this price. In future I will be going to the nearby Columba 1400 or Staffin Community Centre.I will NOT be returning to Flodigarry Country House Hotel!!!!!

We booked this restaurant for dinner before we checked reviews, and when we read the reviews afterwards were slightly apprehensive, but thought we would give it a go anyway. The restaurant is lovely, warm and inviting. We had been concerned that there wouldn't be much seafood available after the lady on the phone mainly advertised meat options, but to our pleasant surprise there were lots of options. The shell on prawns were absolutely delicious, and followed by the curried lobster it was great! We were very full, and very happy, following a great meal, and would definitely recommend it.

We ate an evening meal in the Hightide Restaurant and were thoroughly disappointed. We were seated in a corner annexe to the restaurant with a window sill at about 6 foot high so that there was no view except for the blank wall. this turned out to be in the passageway between the restaurant and the bar with a constant stream of staff and customers passing our table. We found the waitress to be dismissive and the food, whilst good, was vastly overpriced. The tiniest portions were simply a case of trying too hard to be stylish. I still can't believe that we paid £14.50 for a cheese selection consisting of three minute pieces of cheese, with chutney, grapes and oatcakes - outrageous. The whole experience was a great disappointment.
