Unpretentious, friendly, homemade, affordable. Not easy to find cafe's like this so close to the city centre.

Great atmosphere and so many wine choices. The staff are also helpful if you're unsure what to get

This restaurant was very busy on our visit, it is also dog friendly if you want that facility. We were put on a lower table because we had 2 dogs , but the restaurant was very busy and quite noisy as it was a Friday evening. The food and drinks came quite quickly considering how busy it was, good choice of both but portions were not that big. We didn't have desserts but menu looked good.

Stopped by here on the way home. The place was empty but the kids corner was a bonus for us and kept our 3 yr old son happy! Menu doesn't have much choice but the food was delicious! We had chicken burger and an old Smokey burger. No complaints! Staff and punters were friendly an we will definitely be back again. I dont know why there wasn't more publicity about this place as it defo needs it. Come here if u like no no fuss good pub grub and a place for the kids to play.

Broccoli Soup was watery and too salty. Cheese scones to accompany were unavailable at 1.00pm lunchtime. Bruschetta at £9.50 consisted of a very modest slice of toasted sourdough with some tomatoes and a small amount of mozzarella with a few salad leaves. Very poor value even for overpriced Edinburgh.

Decided to go to an independent cafe and saw Poppy. On entering the server wasn't very welcoming and didn't greet me smile etc. The front area is nice and bright and looks inviting. The back area where i sat was a combination of storage and tables. It was very dark and depressing and had a cold feeling. It was like two completely different places. The pot of tea was very average. When I went to pay she didn't tell me the amount just put the card reader in front of me and I had to read the price from there. A very disappointing visit. I won't be back.

I’m an Edinburgh resident and also a Friend of the National Galleries, and, for the last sixteen years or so, this has been a favourite spot of mine for lunch or coffee. However, I am so disappointed by recent visits and am reluctant to visit again. After attending an exhibition today, I bought an iced coffee for my son. The woman who served us was rude - she was also very unhelpful to a Spanish family before us in the queue - and, although we paid extra for syrup to be added to the iced coffee, hardly any actually was. Prices are really expensive now, portions smaller, the choice more limited and friendly service is sadly lacking, so what is there left to love?
