Popped in for a hot drink had a warmed cheese scone with pesto on the side lovely. The had a great seat beside the window overlooking the Water of Leith.

Fantastic food, lovely staff, very good value. We had quiche, Cullen skink and ciabatta. Coffee was great. Staff were welcoming and brilliant.

We are beyond delighted to call into the WOLCB for a very welcome croque monsieur fix to brighten our working from home / homeschooling days! So beautifully made, so tasty 😋 The exceptional fragipane tarts make for an indulgent treat with an afternoon cuppa too! We were so excited to be booked in at water of Leith that we both got totally wrong and turned up an hour too early for lunch. The Botanic garden was getting drizzly and cold . The lovely lady said she did like customers to be prompt but this was really early. The restaurant was fully booked but she did try to fit us in . We all had a good laugh and we went for a walk and turned up an hour later at our allocated time . No wine today Covid restrictions ! Well a good pot of strong tea and the most delicious plateful of sweet potato and coconut curry and a macaroni cheese with tangy tasty cheese and big platefuls . Really enjoyed it and we managed a pear and almond tart and natural cheesecake too .Great stuff great value . Great flat white. We had to go back to our hotel and sleep it off ! Thank you see you next time

Called in for breakfast, 2 x poached egg & avocado, eggs cooked to perfection, crepe with nutella & a croissant filled with ham & cheese, it wasn't on the menu but the friendly staff happily made it for us The covid 19 safely measures that were in place are excellent & we felt very safe. Call in if in the area you won't be disappointed. Highly recommended

We came her for lunch as we were passing after visiting the botanical gardens. Great menu, it was difficult to choose, from snacks to steak. We both had a tasty plate of food and a nice glass of wine or two. The cakes looked very tempting too.

We had an absolutely lovely lunch at this bistro. And when I left my sunglasses behind, the owner promptly phoned me so I could run back and get them. Very friendly and the food was great too.

Quite near to the East Gate Botanic Garden entrance we spotted it on our way to the wonderful Botanic Gardens . We spent 4 hours in the gardens on quite a wet morning and walked along to this cafe to check it out. I had read great things about it but never knew where it was. We walked in and were greeted by the friendliest warmest welcome from a lovely lady . Did we want something sweet or Savoury ? The blackboard was brought across and it really sounded like they knew all my favourites . We decided on a pot of tea each and I had a goats cheese quiche Mediterranean veg style very different to what I know served with a salad . Oh ! I need a glass of Rioja with this as the hostess said it makes it into an event ! My partner decided on the soup tomato and basil as a main course and when it came it was one gigantic bowlful served with sourdough bread . I had to finish with a super sweet cinnamon bun . My partner had a look at the cakes and chose a natural cheesecake which is often difficult to find .It was amazing ! The chef here knows about food and the front of house knows how to look after customers . What a fantastic team. We enjoyed the food and hospitality very much . Yes we will be back.

We had a lovely brunch here. There were lots of options on the menu for all dietary requirements. I got a carrot and falafel bruger and my husband got the croque Madame. We also got some coffees. Both the coffees and the food were massive. Everything was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced. I can't believe I haven't come in before. Will definitely be back for some cakes!

Popped into the Water of Leith Cafe last week after getting caught in a downpour whilst out for a walk. It’s a lovely cafe and I immediately felt comfortable due to the warm welcome by the member of staff and the cosy surroundings. I ordered a coffee and took a seat at the window and happily watched the world go by, whilst enjoying my drink. The smell of the food was very inviting but unfortunately I had already eaten. However, I’m sure I will return for a breakfast. Overall a lovely cafe with friendly staff and clean toilets.

We absolutely love Water of Leith bistro, we've been coming for many years & celebrate all our family birthdays & occasions here. Mikael's food is top quality, varied & unique...everything is made from scratch with love & care. Ana's service is friendly & fun, you're always made to feel at home. Also, extremely reasonable prices...if you've not been - go! You u won't regret it.

My family has come here regularly for years and still my main problem is narrowing down what to order as so many of the regular dishes are delicious but many of the specials are too. Staff and owners are friendly and responsive to requests. There are some toys for children to borrow and the overall atmosphere is relaxed.

This is top notch French/Scottish food, every dish is carefully chosen and comes out perfectly. The weekend menu is the best deal in town. I love the haddock and leek risotto, pork with mustard sauce and cabbage, beef and ale pie, or on the regular menu fish cakes, Cullen skink, burger, or croque monsieur. If you go on a day they have chocolate rum cheesecake, tarte tatin, tiramisu, gâteau bréton, or bakewell tart, you'll leave happy. Of course the flourless chocolate cake is there every day. I don't know how they do it, so friendly, and every dish is well constructed and comes out flawless. I'd go every day if I could. Don't miss it.

We returned once again to the Water of Leith to find it just as superb as ever; great, diverse menu including veggie options and ones catering for dietary requirements together with wonderful homemade seasonal specials. Combined with genuinely lovely, friendly service the owners put their heart and soul into this bistro and, in our opinion, have created the best in Edinburgh.

Encontré este lugar justo abajo de donde me estaba quedando. Una vez que comí allí volví para cada comida. Comida increíble, servicio maravilloso y amable. Está un poco alejado de la ciudad principal pero vale la pena caminar para disfrutar de un desayuno y almuerzo increíbles. Gran café también!

Necesitábamos un descanso y una taza de té y nos encontramos con este delicioso café justo en el momento adecuado. Era domingo y justo cuando entramos, el propietario dijo que cerrarían en 15 minutos, pero estaban felices de servirnos. Tenía una olla encantadora de Earl Grey y un bollo de fruta caliente y mi esposo tenía una tina de helado. El café era muy cómodo, amplio y luminoso y el servicio excelente.

As a person with significant health-related dietary restrictions, I was worried I wouldn’t be able to find anything to eat here. But the staff here were so sweet, kind, and helpful. They were genuinely invested in helping me find something I could eat. They have GF and vegetarian options and it was all really, really delicious! Great for a lunch or breakfast no matter what you can eat.

In all of our time in Edinburgh, we ate at a lot of places. This cafe was hands down our favorite. We stopped by for lunch after a lovely morning at the Botanical Gardens. The food was wonderful, and the staff very friendly and helpful. They have a great selection for vegetarians. Everything was fresh and cooked well! I wish we lived close enough, because I would be a regular here.

This cafe was walking distance from our hotel, Went there for breakfast twice!! All I can say is you must go there! They also serve lunch as well, shame they don’t open Monday’s!! But they work hard to make you feel very comfortable

We stayed nearby and this is enroute to the Botanical Gardens so ver convenient. tasty eggs on toast, although the bacon was a little over cooked, good coffee and friendly service.

Popped in to grab hot drinks before the botanical gardens opened. Very friendly staff. Drinks were delicious and had the additional bonus of shortbread! Much nicer than some of the chains nearby and would have gone back if back in the area.

We needed energy before we could enjoy the Botanical Gardens very close to our Air B&B.; Great food and service. Try their Poached Eggs on toast with Smoked Salmon, fresh from the sea. They provide local sourced food that seasonal and fresh. Don't miss this diamond in the rough.

Posto molto carino, per fortuna non era necessario prenotare come in molti altri posti. I proprietari sono dolcissimi e gentilissimi. Per i bambini è l'ideale perché hanno anche giochini per intrattenerli. Noi abbiamo optato per una colazione scozzese e uova alla benedict....piatti davvero davvero buoni. Grazie!!!

Proper food well cooked in this low key but up market cafe. Locals eat here and to overhear their conversations -- ironic, dour, intelligent -- is briefly to glimpse the Edinburgh of Alexander McCall Smith. Even the foreign language student working part time as a busy waitress is well on the way to a bonnie Scots accent. Perfect.

Popped in off the street and had an amazing breakfast (croque madame), freshly prepared and served by friendly staff. Great ambiance, family friendly, and a perfect place for brunch.

Called in to here for lunch on a bitterly cold day after a brisk walk around the Royal Botanic Garden. Food and service was top notch. The cafe is very welcoming with its well spaced tables, big windows, brightly coloured decor and views over the Water of Leith.

Super ottimo!!! Accolti con simpatia dalla proprietaria, una signora efervescente e simpatica.....locale pienissimo ma siamo stati serviti con solerzia. Sbalorditi dalla qualità del cibo, filetto di Hancock su purea di porri e pastinaca spaziale, curry di verdure buonissimo ( con verdure croccanti e nn mosce con ti rifilano a Milano nei ristoranti indiani) e per finire sticky toffee pudding divino!!! Yet again WOLC delivered a fantastic three course lunch for the price of a main course anywhere else. Delicious food, just do book in advance as always very busy.

Just a 5 min stroll from the Botanics East Gate, so I recommend avoiding the over-priced and crowded venues in the gardens themselves and head to this bistro run by Ana and Mickael. Excellent value, fabulous food, and wonderful staff.

My partner and I came in today with our two little fur babies and the wonderful lady that saw to us was so lovely and attentive! The coffee was delicious and the cakes were divine!

We came in here for tea and cake to get out of the rain. The women running it was lovely and very hospitable and the cake (sticky toffee pudding was incredible). This is a fantastic place to go on the way to or from the botanic gardens.

We met up with friends for lunch - they knew it was a good place to go;it was our first time. I drooled over the cakes while waiting for them to arrive and knew we'd come to the right place. My cullen skink was delicious, as was the chocolate caramel cheesecake. Everyone else's food looked yummy too but I was sitting too far away from my husband to pinch some of his tagine! Very friendly service, relaxed but totally on it. Thank you!

If you ever find yourself in need of caffeine and/or a little bit of TLC in Edinburgh do yourself a favour and come and take a seat in the Water of Leith cafe. The proprietors are brimming over with good cheer and humour. They would seem to have many regulars and I'm sure a lot of folk come in here for a generous serve of kindness and for a chat as much as for the excellent coffee and freshly prepared food. You may even enjoy your coffee to the dulcet tones of French chatter all about you, just wonderful really.

I am a regular for Sunday brunch here for reasons not hard to suss. The Franco/Scoto ownership prizes quality food at very reasonable prices. Simply great breakfasts and brunches. Sitting at a window overlooking the Water of Leith when the sun shines, there is no better morning experience to be had in Edinburgh.

Was in Edinburgh for a short break with my girlfriend and visited the Botanical gardens (which are well worth a look!) and needed a quick bite to eat for lunch. Saw this was near on Google Maps so popped in. We had two of the dishes off the main menu but they also had a specials board which I presume changes fairly regularly. Well, the dishes were lovely and very filling, really good value for money. It's clearly very popular and the two ladies serving were both lovely, chatty, friendly and genuine. They had a couple of local beers and the one I tried was really nice. I would definitely recommend this place (although you may struggle to get a table at lunch I think!). Thanks for the lovely lunch.

Went to WOLVB for breakfast this morning and once again it did not disappoint!!! Not been for breakfast for a while and decided it was time for a visit. Now I don’t know about you guys but when I get coffee in some places it is either weak and not very hot but what myself and my friend love about the coffee is it is great and pipping hot....

my daughter and I had a 4 day break. discovered this cafe on our second day and made it our favourite place to eat. food fantastic and staff so friendly and helpful. highly recommend this place.

Popped in here today in the passing for a hot chocolate and ended up adding a dessert. A lovely family run business with really friendly staff. The place was very clean and welcoming wit a small window view into the kitchen (also well kept). Not in this area often but would definitely go again. Should give this cafe/bistro a visit.

Quite simply, I went back after a break of a few months. This place is as good as ever. That means good fresh hood cooked by a real French chef. The blackboard menu always has something unusual and often a bit too good.

Siamo capitati per caso, ma dopo aver provato la colazione il primo giorno, ci siamo tornati anche per i restanti. Un cappuccino che sognavo da giorni, fatto molto bene e dolci e cornetti fatto in casa da leccarsi i baffi.

Si estás en esta parte de la ciudad o incluso no chicos te sugiero que hagas una parada. También es perros (sugiero que si su toma su cachorro, ya que solo tienen 2 mesas disponibles para su amigo de cuatro patas). Excelente comida con platos t un poco de toque en la cocina francesa del chef. Siempre una sorpresa ya que el menú cambia diariamente. Lo sentimos, no hay fotos, ya que comer nuestra comida en velocidad! ! ! No abre por las tardes, pero están disponibles para eventos privados.

Usciti affamati dall'Orto botanico, per fortuna abbiamo incontrato questo delizioso locale, frequentato da gente del posto. Menù vario e interessante, con piatti tipici ma creativi, ottima qualità, porzioni abbondanti e prezzi giusti. Le due ragazze che gestivano il locale quel giorno erano gentilissime, quando la prima ha capito che eravamo italiani ci ha mandato la seconda che parlava spagnolo e quindi ci si capiva meglio!

Very friendly staff. If you do a walk from downtown to the Royal botanical garden (east entrance), you can make this your stop. Recommendable

Myself and my 7 month old son visited while on holiday, after reading a recommendation on timeout . Very welcoming and friendly, nice atmosphere, lovely food. I had two drinks, a main and a dessert for £16, very reasonable and above standard food for the price in my view. Will visit again next time in town.

Had breakfast here with friends on a weekend trip to Edinburgh. Very good Scottish breakfast with all the trimmings at a reasonable price, £9.95.

Called in after visiting the Botanical Gardens for a pot of tea and slice of Carrot Cake, The owners are friendly and the Cafe is in a nice location next to a bridge over the water of Leith.

This place is the first stop every time I come to Edinburgh. It never lets us down. The welcome you receive every time you walk in the door is warm and genuine. Precioso almuerzo y buena relación calidad-precio en menos de £13 por dos platos. Componentes inicio mezze como era el pan plano cálido. Tarta de chocolate de postre individual para morirse. Super delgada, sólo repostería crujiente en la parte superior, justo por dentro y sólo cálido empalagoso. No en el menos enfermizo o amarga. Simplemente delicioso servido con suave frambuesa sorbete. Incluso una semana más tarde, sigue vivo en la memoria.

This is a very friendly cafe bistro with lovely staff. I can't review the food as we only had tea, coffee and a scone (all of which was excellent) but we had a most enjoyable visit and will definitely go again! Our dog was also made welcome.

Stopped here for coffee and cake on our Water of Leith walk (Edinburgh to Leith - a very pretty walk). Very bright, cheerful café with a very bright and cheerful owner (Ana). The Bakewell tarts (served warm with ice cream) were divine and made by Ana's husband. Would thoroughly recommend.

Always afraid things will not be as good the second time and we were right. Can only give the cullen skink 99 out of 100 this time.

This place is light and airy, and the staff very nice. A french owner! Good food- we all had cheeseburgers. There is a licence. Not open in the evening, great for a decent lunch.
