Delicious haggis, reasonable prices

Me and my boyfriend have visited this place first thing after coming to Edinburgh and we loved it so much! We had Scottish breakfast and Scottish veggie breakfast. It was very filling, a lot of flavors that go very nicely together and it also looked very appetizing. The toasted bread with butter was perfect too, the beans were the best ones we’ve ever eaten. :) The waitresses are very nice, friendly and accommodating too. We were waited by Rhianna and Brooke, both very nice and helpful. They’re adding to a nice place this restaurant and café already is. Would recommend 1000%.

The berry bubbles cocktail was great. The sourdough with tapenade and hummus was just alright, the hummus tasted like straight chickpea with nothing in it but the tapenade and bread were great. My wife and I both got the burger add cheese (£2 extra for cheese) The burger came out and it seemed like there was no cheese but really the cheese was burned onto the top of the burger. Bit into the burger and it was tough and well done. My wife bit hers and burned her mouth, as the burger was unnaturally hot as if it was microwaved, which would explain the scorched cheese. The fries that came with the burger were all saturated in grease and most of my fry cup was bits and crunchy parts, no actual full size fries. Alltogether, a disappointing experience with great service.

Probé haggis por primera vez en mi vida y estaba delicioso, el trago de whisky que recomendaron con él maridaba perfectamente y el servicio que recibimos de Lauren fue genial, muy amable. 100% recomiendo!

Buen ambiente, espacio limpio y aseos. Buena comida también. El personal es amable y servicial, le encantará con sonrisa y entusiasmo.

After a rude treatment at the elephant cafe, we came here and were glad we did. Really nice breakfast, nice coffee, good service.

Order the Big Breakfast and enjoy all the famous Scottish cuisine in one go. Even dishes that I was worried would be too strong, such as haggis and black pudding, turned out to be very delicious.

🚨East Asians and Overweight White Individuals May Not Be Seated at Window Tables🚨 I visited the restaurant around 10 a.m. There was only one other party present, so the place was quite empty. The receptionist guided us to a table at the back of the restaurant. At the time, I thought nothing of it. However, I was taken aback when I saw white customers who arrived after us being seated at the window tables. I recalled an article mentioning that Asians are often not seated by the windows in European cafes and restaurants. This made me wonder if we were discriminated against because we are Asian. Recognizing that this could be my own paranoia, I calmly observed the restaurant’s seating patterns. The common characteristic among those seated at the window tables was that they were all white. I began to suspect that perhaps Asians are not allowed to sit by the windows. Then, I noticed that some white customers were also being seated at the back. They were overweight. It dawned on me that the restaurant wasn’t discriminating solely based on race but was instead not seating customers who didn’t align with the restaurant’s desired image at the window tables. Upon closer observation, I identified the features of those seated by the windows: they were clean, dressed in calm-colored and appropriately sized clothing, not overweight, and white. Even white individuals who were overweight or dressed in eccentric fashion were guided to the back. While our attire and physique were no different from those seated at the windows, we were not white. I felt ashamed for entering this restaurant. Despite being uninvited or undesired patrons, we had imposed upon the staff to serve us. I recalled the slight hesitation on the receptionist face when we first arrived. In my country, there are restaurants that select their clientele, but it’s made clear through their appearance and atmosphere. I failed to realize that such practices could exist in a place with such a casual ambiance. Unfamiliar with the UK’s social structure and culture, I admit I don’t know how to choose dining venues here. I plan to stay in Edinburgh for a while, but I will not visit this restaurant again. This decision isn’t due to any issue with the quality of the restaurant but because we are unwanted or unexpected. By the way, the food was delicious, and the staff’s demeanor was excellent. They treated us equally without any discrimination. I am sincerely grateful for their service. However, that isn’t the main issue. If you decide to visit this restaurant, please consider whether you are the type of customer they wish to serve.

Great place with tasty food, friendly people and overall a nice location. Many vegetarian options for all kinds of meals. Definitely recommend. Nice place with lots of vegetarian options as well as traditional Scottish food. Great for breakfast, brunch, lunch and in between with nice people.

Menu says middle bacon but serves back bacon. Great coffee. Food good but not exceptional. Service attentive. Quite expensive but it is Edinburgh!

I didn't even have time to take photos because it was so appetizing. The service is fast and the meals are delicious. The waitresses are attentive and constantly ask if everything is going well.

It’s a busy cafe! It has limited seating, but its location in Old Town was greet for us. I had a party of 8 and the food came out in good time. It’s overwhelming for waiters to attend a crowded room, be patient and kind with them.

Brooke was so lovely to explain and recommend dishes that are new to us being first timers in Edinburgh! ☺️

Its hard to actually review Scotts based on a star rating as our server Francesca was fantastic, so friendly and attentive, however the server who brought our food, Justina I believe was her name, was the polar opposite. We ordered string fries and she brought normal chips and when we questioned this her reply was 'oh well this is what you have been given' and she walked away! We then ordered a specialist hot chocolate with cream and marshmallows and she brought the hot chocolate out without either topping. Her attitude was extremely disappointing and completely ruined our lunch experience. We couldn't not leave a tip as Francesca was fabulous but we did leave less than we normally would.

Very nice shop, perfect location overlooking Victoria Street from above if you sit outside. Given the very touristy spot it is in, the food was honest. The service was impeccable from everyone!

Wife got the soup of the day and it was an incredible venison stew with mash potatoes. .. excellent! Seriously, order that. Great and clean bathrooms for customers, and I feel like there were nice priced options for extra hungry or just a bite.

Bus recommended, we ordered breakfast with granola and Scotch eggs, both very tasty and at relatively affordable prices for the old part of Edinburgh. The place has a terrace but we didn't use it because it was a little cold

We came in right as the kitchen was closing, and we tried to fight, but they were insistent we sat down. I’m so glad that we did! The best haggis we both ever had! delicious! The server Sarah was so friendly. I wouldn’t recommend anywhere else in Edinburgh over this place!

Brooke was lovely and friendly, she make sure we were having a great time. However, the food we have was disappointing , the burger and the chips were a bit burn and dry. Good Mac and cheese

The incredible place, perfect location, the spectacular eggs Benedict with bacon, the best in all of Edinburgh, the super attentive service, delighted with Brooke's good treatment. We will repeat without a doubt. The only thing that could be improved is the orange juice is bottled, not freshly squeezed.

20 years in the UK and this was the worst breakfast I've ever had. They took it off the bill, but I had to complain a few times which was uncomfortable. The black pudding was hard as a rock and cold. Eggs on both the Benedict and Full breakfast were hard and cold. You could chip a tooth on the toast, and what was described as a "Butchers sausage with homemade beans" was a pink Richmond with unseasoned cold tinned tomatoes. The "potato scone" tasted like a sponge that had been saturated in fryer oil, but the haggis was good..

Decided to come to Scott’s kitchen for lunch after hiking up Arthur’s seat. We sat out on the terrace and the weather was gorgeous. Our server Lauren was very attentive and the food was fabulous. We had the traditional Haggis and Sticky toffee pudding with an Elderberry Noctail.

We got the Haggis, Casserole, & soup of the day. All of which were incredible and I would recommend all of the dishes to everyone! The prices were incredibly fair & the food was superb. If you’re in the area you should certainly go!

Excellent relaxed lunch restaurant in a great location. Simple, short and well priced menu. Friendly and attentive staff. My lunch was served quickly, was attractively plated and very tasty. Will come back again.

The vegetable soup and the Scottish smoked fish were very good. Lauren was very friendly. The gnocchi was pretty good. In nice weather the terrace would be great. It's very close to the national museum. You have to climb a ramp or steps to get there.

Wij konden nog net een tafeltje in de zon krijgen om hier een klein hapje te lunchen. Een gerookte zalm voor mijn partner die okay was, maar wel met veel klein stukjes met wat harde stukjes erin. Voor mij een Caesar Salad met mooie croutons en weinig parmezaanse kaas. Ik kreeg zonder toeslag een beetje extra van de serveerster. Drukke zaak, maar liep toch aardig. Met glaasje wijn, biertje en fooi £ 40,00.

This place has excellent food and great service, together with a view if you sit on the terrace. It has gluten-free options that are safe for celiacs. We were served by Ridhima who was charming and super helpful.

The best vegan food I have had in Europe. Just like that. Incredible culinary experience, the service was the best, the view was dreamy, everything clean, fast but without rush. Recommended for anyone coming to Edinburgh. Thank you, Scotts Kitchen team!

Caesar salad is completely different from the classic recipe. There is no cheese, no eggs, no cherry tomatoes. They brought me only lettuce and crackers and then for 4 pounds they brought me chopped chicken, it was just terrible. Level zero. I’m adding a photo with chicken, but I don’t want to eat it after all the clarification.

We sat on the terrace and had lunch. We had some really delicious haggis and mac and cheese while looking out at the city. Recommended for those who want to enjoy Scottish cuisine.

Thought the kombucha tea was.going to be honest made especially at 7.95, very sweet bottle granted ...great British taste . But not natural, looking forward to the poached egg..shame the white tasted of vinegar, toast was more like a Crispen /crisp bread.. could not cut the crust without splintering everywhere and little softness in the middle too. My partners loved the bacon,.eggs Benedict, haggis , but again hard toast..such a shame

Spent a great dining experience in this cafe restaurant. We were served by a lovely lady named Francesca and all throughout our dine she was very attentive with our table needs - very satisfactory - she has also entertained us with few chats that made us feel more comfortable and home. We have tried their Traditional Haggis with a dram of whisky, Scotts Macaroni Cheese and Crispy Chorizo - the food is amazing and is filling though served in an average plate size. Sadly, we went into the cafe by 13:15H and wasn’t able to try the traditional Scottish breakfast as breakfast is only served til 11:30H. Nevertheless, it was a wonderful dining experience that surely made us feel returning for another dine. It was crowded the time we went, without any table reservation yet we were happily accepted. The place offers both indoor and outdoor seating.

We were accommodated last minute. The scone ordered by my partner and my diet restrictions were catered to with perfection-they even gave me gf,vegan bread and vegan 'butter'. The coffee was lovely. The berry smoothie was also dairy free and refreshing but quite cold. The service was very timely and efficient.

Immediately greeted by rude staff when I asked for a table, rolled their eyes when we misheard them. Then when getting our order taken, the woman didn't engage back or smile once when making conversation - seemed completely uninterested. The drinks & food here were okay but wouldn't come back due to the unpleasant staff experience

I had their “famous” carrot cake which had more nuts and seeds than actual cake. It was very dry and lacked in flavour along with the rest of the food we tried. I paid £6 only to receive a small square of carrot cake and was left hungry. Our first server who I think was called Sienna was very polite and professional but I cannot say the same for the rest. I saw two workers staring at our table (one gave her card at the end called Francesca I think) and whispering about us like we weren’t supposed to be eating there. Francesca said she was too busy to split our bill appropriately although there was empty tables around us. Very disappointed. Do not recommend.

Staff were incredibly rude - talking, staring and whispering at us whilst we were sat at our table. They then failed to listen to our requests when we wanted to split the bill as our waitress said she didn’t have the time to do it, which seems unfair since we are the paying customers. I wouldn’t return, I was very disappointed.

Very good quality food and a very decent price

We read good reviews and decided to visit this place after making a reservation in our first visit in Edinburgh. Unfortunately, was very disappointed by the food that was served. Honestly it was the worst 🍔 I've ever ate. Cheese macaroni was also without any taste. Felt like a very touristic place where people never visit again, so they don't even try to make it tasty. If you decide to visit, focus on other stuff food (not burgers or macaroni).

Scotts Kitchen is a wonderful place to sit and enjoy a meal. Staff is welcoming and helpful. Eggs Benedict was delicious!

Very nice place. The furniture and decor are pretty but as for the plates, it's really very light. We pay a lot for what it is. Caesar salad is just lettuce with a few croutons, that's all! Otherwise you have to pay extra for everything!!!

We had extremely slow service throughout our meal, even on a Monday night. When the food arrived it was disappointing and not worth the money we paid. The sourdough bread starter was cold and stale, with bland humous. The chicken sandwich was dry with fridge-cold chicken inside. The macaroni cheese was swimming in oil, and sticky toffee pudding was dry and dense (not in a good way!). Half of the menu was also unavailable, though the staff were nice enough. I'm shocked this place is under the same ownership as Howies. Sadly won't be visiting again.
