This was a wonderfull eating experience as the Magnum excelled with the food , the service , atmosphere and general ambience which were excellent. We had the corner table and were immediately struck by the professional and freindly service from all staff , the dining room is cosy and intimate and was full for the entire time we were there but the staff werent hurried and we recieved the food with plenty of time between courses so didnt feel rushed . The star of the show though is the food which was truly wonderfull , I had the cullen skink to start , the wagyu burger and then the sticky toffee pudding to finish , we then retired to the well stocked bar for a few cocktails and a blether with the locals and staff , an excellent place for a great meal away from the touristy masses , highly recommended.

A hidden gem in the neighbourhood that we would rather keep it to ourselves. Remarkable birthday dinners here and we just don’t want it to get too famous! But no reasons for us to save the five stars review for a such lovely team serving us!

This restaurant has some weak points. First of all, the service. The staff ignores the clients since the beginning until the end. I had a reservation and when I arrived, the staff of the restaurant acted as if I did not exist. I stood at the entrance. The staff was there, but nobody came to me. I had to step forward to ask them, if somebody could come. A woman (afterwards my waitress) said that she will be available in a moment. Then I waited again and I had a bad feeling about this restaurant. I was thinking about leaving, but I had already my reservation. After I took my seat, I went to the toilet, and a big disappointment was waiting for me there. The toilet flush was broken, and I saw the disgusting toilet paper of the previous clients stuck in the water. Very pleasant… Just imagine how bad I felt again imagining the rest. Surprisingly, the food was not that bad. But as I said, there is a big service problem. The waiters are absent. I had to stand up several times and look for them. Otherwise, they never come. The worst part is that even if you ask them for something, they just forget about that. I asked twice a pudding menu, they said “yes, of course, I bring it immediately”, and they disappeared and never gave it to me. Frustrated, I had to leave the restaurant without my desert, because there was no more sense to continue as they are too slow and I had also other stuff to do. I give two stars for the food quality and the smile during those rare moments when I was served.

Superb. The best meal we had whilst on a 4-day trip to Edinburgh from Devon. Service was second to none, staff exceptionally attentive without being intrusive. The food..wow. We visited specifically for their Cullen Skink but were also wowed by beef cheek and lamb dishes.

In Edinburgh for a few nights and went out looking for a nice restaurant on a Saturday evening one week from Christmas and lucky for us we discovered The Magnum restaurant & Bar , very appealing from the outside and on entering we felt right at home, very pleasant & experienced staff got seated and sorted with drinks / we placed our food order and have to say the Wagyu burgers were incredible and the turkey & ham with roast vegetables was outstanding/ what a wonderful & lasting experience for our holiday 👏👏👏

Mary and Vincent are such a joy to work with, their service is unparalleled. Compliments to all the cooks and chefs, the haggis is delicious, and they even made special accommodation. When I asked for one of the sides was that the main course. If you are looking for some traditional gastropub Scottish Fair, you have come to the right place. Hopefully I will get to return many times during this visit and our future trips to the city. Thanks again to Mary Vincent and the entire team!! Definitely tried to hang a spring rolls and the haggis that is on the main course alongside the veal. Also, I highly recommend asking about the variety of champagnes and whiskeys available. Sticky toffee pudding is not to be missed. We had the soup of the day which was a lovely squash soup. And the scallops are some of the best I've ever had, all local and perfectly cooked

I love The Magnum! I went there for the second time with my best friend and it never disappoints! The Magnum is more than a restaurant. The warm atmosphere makes it seem like you’re at a friend’s dinner party, not just dining out. The staff makes you feel genuinely cared for, adding a personal touch to every visit. It’s the kind of place where you can truly relax, like you’re part of a community, rather than just a guest at a restaurant, plus it’s pet friendly! The food is fresh, delicious, and well presented, and they have a great selection of cocktails and wine and the service is top notch! Last year, I ordered a Vieux Carré cocktail, but they didn’t have one of the ingredients. This time, our server remembered and surprised me with the cocktail without me even asking! I was really impressed by the level of service, It was such a nice touch. You can definitely trust this place, it’s a real gem!

Booked The Magnum for my mother's birthday family celebration based on several previous visits and staying in the neighbourhood for the festival- it did not disappoint! My partner and I spent 4 evenings in Edinburgh last week and dined at The Magnum twice despite attempting to try a new place each day. We just had to come back because no other place could live up to the quality, atmosphere, cosiness and sincerity of The Magnum. Amazing staff and a wonderful clientele of mostly locals - a testament to the effort and passion put into this little corner of the city. The dish “Aubergine Involtini” was a strike of culinary genius and the little puff pastries served as an appetizer were a great surprise. Both evenings we arrived without a reservation and were seated at the bar since the restaurant was fully booked - this was truly a strike of luck as we would sit alongside kind local regulars who really made us feel at home. We are so grateful for the wholesome evenings and hope to come back in the future. Fun Fact: As soon as we landed back in Denmark, we ordered 3 of the whiskeys we tried at The Magnum: Auchentoshan (both Three Wood and American Oak) and the Talisker Port Ruighe. The bottles should arrive by mail today.

On our first evening in Edinburgh we had the most lovely dinner here! It is a charming place, neither kitschy nor fancy. The staff were so friendly, professional, attentive and helpful! Magnums was our local hangout during our stay in Edinburgh this August. It provided our first and last meal in Edinburgh. It also provided our end of evening stop for drinks and dessert. Service was the best it could be. We were a group of tourists without a reservation wanting to try the cullen skink, but they had no place. They managed to accommodate us very kindly and offered us some snacks. We then tasted some whiskey and they recommended us according to our petitions and offered us a small sip to confirm. Everything, food and drinks, was really good but the best was the service we had. Would absolutely come back.

We had a super birthday lunch for my daughter here in Edinburgh ! The food was amazing and so tasty and the staff were so lovely and friendly and surprised my daughter with a lovely dessert and candle for her birthday ! I was vacationing in Scotland and was recommended to go to this place by my Air BnB host and let me tell you, I was not disappointed in the slightest. The first time I went was for lunch and I had their lunch special, which was highlighted by the sweet chili beef. It was so good that my wife and I decided to get another plate of it. Looking over the menu, there were so many options I asked if they had any open reservations for dinner that night and Lewis was kind enough to squeeze us in. We showed up and they had our table marked with a little card with my name on it and were excited to see me again. For dinner I tried the Wagyu Burger and my wife had the King Prawn Pasta. Both meals were top notch and the burger especally would be in the top 3 burgers I've ever had in my life. We had a few more days of vaction left so I made another reservation for 2 days later following our first dinner. I knew our waitress, Olivia, would be working that day so I requested her specifically. When I arrived, they had my table marked again this time with a hand written note. The staff there is truly awesome. That night I had the beef cheeks while my wife had the burger she missed out on the previous time. The beef cheeks were superb. Not a single dish there was even remotely bad and the chef there has done a wonderful job with the menu. tl;dr: Lewis and Olivia are awesome and made me feel right at home, the food is top tier and creative, the staff as a whole were amazing and the atmosphere is warm and friendly.

Hands down best meal I’ve had in a longggg time. This place looks like a pub, but is run like a top tier restaurant. Everyone is hustling and bustling to provide the best service to you. The first evening, we had the venison, market catch, veggie soup, sticky toffee pudding, mango sorbet and chocolate marquis. It was absolutely sensational. We ended up loving it so much we came back the next evening for dinner and tried new dishes. The second evening we had the soup again, Korean fried chicken sliders, bacon cheeseburger, the steak with garlic butter, and the beef cheeks. We also had the panna cotta- holy moly best thing ever. Do yourself a favor and dine at this establishment at least once- make reservations as it does get busy in the evenings. There is not one thing I would change about this place- truly a phenomenal meal (both times!) and wonderful staff! Thank you to Lewis and Olivia for providing us with hands on experience and truly the best service we’ve had!

We were visiting during peak tourist season and truly wanted a good late lunch. Not an easy find at times. This place was well worth the walk. We were lucky enough to be seated without reservations, but that may be risky as it fills up rapidly. Tap water is fantastic The beer is spot on. We did a half carafe of red house wine. Solid choice. The food was excellent. Scallops and Haggis bon bons to start. Venison rare and oh so tender. Sides were excellent. The amuse bouche between courses were a treat. Cheese plate and port for myself and sticky toffee pudding for the rest of the group. Excellent meal. I would recommend the cheese be divided among several friends as it is a healthy portion. Staff was attentive and pleasant to interact with Not sure why it's a 4.5* on Google. Really 4.7+ in my estimation.

I had booked The Magnum for my partner's 30th Birthday for a group of 16 of us. I cannot rate this place more - it's a hidden gem in Edinburgh but I have to say it is definitely worth a visit. The food was sublime. A special shout out goes to Sarah the event organiser - from the outset, her knowledge of events, clear communication and professional manner was faultless! A fantastic venue for group bookings, a casual meal or event just for drinks with a gorgeous outdoor drinking area. Thanks Sarah and the team!

My aim when visiting Scotland was to try their national dishes. Cullen Skink and Haggis to be precise. A quick Google search and the Magnum was recommended. We were not disappointed. We arrived around lunch time on a Sunday and were seated at a really cosy table near the window. Perfect for people watching. We were presented with a full menu as well as a menu of smaller plates. Perfect for sharing. Lewis our waiter took amazing care of us. We ordered the Cullen Skink, haggis spring rolls and prawn tacos. We also ordered a large portion of chips. If it weren't frowned upon, I would have liked my plate it was so good. I'd 100% recommend having a meal at this fine establishment.

We enjoyed our last Scottish dinner at The Magnum. The restaurant is well-kept and very bright, the service was very friendly and the food was excellent, of excellent quality and tasted convincing. For an aperitif we had croquettes with cheese and Serrano ham, followed by a Cougère with aioli mayonnaise as a greeting from the kitchen. Starter “Bang-Bang” cauliflower and an open ravioli with porcini mushrooms and truffles. As a little refreshment we were then offered a melon gazpacho. The main course was the scampiliguini (classic) and the venison loin fillet (innovative) with black squash, green asparagus, artichoke puree, blackberries and a surprising café au lait sauce. For dessert we shared a rich cheese plate, with ham, apple chutney, quince jelly and crackers. All in all, a convincing dinner.

I was in Edinburgh for a week recently and, even with all the great restaurants, I ate at The Magnum 3 times. Why? The food is excellent; Delicious small bites, starters and main courses. I enjoyed every dish I tried, and loved the Cullen Skink, the scallops, venison, and haggis spring rolls. Great, professional, courteous service by a hardworking team. Nice, warm, welcoming atmosphere. The Magnum was convenient to my B & B in The New Town, however, it is worth travelling from other parts of the city to enjoy this lovely, lively restaurant / bar.

Cosy, elevated pub experience with great service. We had the cullen skink and the open ravioli, which were both divine. Good for kids. Nice touch with a Lochlea whisky flight tasting at the table too. Will definitely be back the next time we’re in Edinburgh!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Magnum, and it was truly an unforgettable experience. We went specifically to try the Scottish traditional soup - Cullen Skink, which was absolutely delicious! We also had the Venison Tenderloin as a main, which was also perfect! The overall dining experience was one of the best we've had in a long time. The restaurant boasts a great selection of wines to complement the meal, and the cozy, intimate atmosphere was perfect for a relaxing time there. The service was exceptional, with attentive staff ensuring that every detail was taken care of. I highly recommend this place to any visitor or resident of Edinburgh. It's a must-visit destination for anyone looking for exceptional food, a warm atmosphere, and outstanding service. We can't wait to return!

We arrived and were seated in the dining room at the table directly across from the stairs. We were provided with menus and given 10 minutes to peruse. We were given tap water and ordered a bottle of the Malbec. The food was a Very good standard and the complimentary small bites between the courses a very nice touch. I had wanted to eat here for a while and I wasn’t disappointed.

We’ve had an amazing experience. There was a vast variety of traditional dishes, one better than the other. The staff was lovely. Moreover, the kitchen was open until 9:30 p.m., which is positive, especially for Italian tourists. Strongly recommended!

Far far too long since our last visit and it didn’t disappoint. It is very attractive both inside and out, with welcoming staff. We chose a table in the window and relaxed with an excellent glass of wine while reading the appealing menu with a wide choice. The scallops were excellent with delicious sauces, and the venison fillet lived up to expectations. Two very good desserts finished off a most enjoyable and spur of the moment lunch. We look forward to trying their Sunday lunch.

Family friendly - at least before late night. Menu is creative and Scottish focused. Kids Menu is available. The soup, Traditional Cullen Skink (fish chowder) was superb! If the Venison Tenderloin is available- don't miss it!

We were in Edinburgh for a midweek break and booked a table because the menu outside looked good ! Very pleased with our choice, cosy atmosphere, great attentive service. The food was excellent, offering generous portions. We loved the haggis spring roll starter. So tasty. We followed with pork : medallions and belly with another lovely sauce. No room for a desert !! I would definitely return.

Due to an error for a different restaurant I reluctantly reserved a table here because I didn't have time to research the reviews. I shouldn't have been worried as it was great. We arrived early and we got our table straight away. Sarah was excellent with her customer service, explained everything about the food and wine. We all chose something different from the menu and I have to say we were not disappointed with any of it. Compliments to the chef, the food was excellent. I had the open mushroom ravioli. It was the best I've ever had! I want the recipe. The ambience of the restaurant is warm, cosy and inviting. Tucked down a side street in the city, it could easily be missed. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone visiting Edinburgh

Absolute hidden jem , Sarah and all the staff were amazing , food was outstanding , do mNy different European dishes , credit to the chef every dish was outstanding , could tell very passionate about the dishes he creates we had many different dishes and all had been cooked and prepared to a very high standard will definitely go back here , also very good prices for the high quality of food we experienced.

Wow just wow. What a hidden gem. We had the most fantastic meal by pure chance. Our original restaurant let us down, but we were so glad. Andrew and Sarah made us very welcome. The food and the service was amazing. It was the absolute highlight of our weekend. Great price and amazing food, what more could you want. 5⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This is our 2nd visit, we were previously here in December 2023. Thoroughly enjoyed it then, this evening even better. We have found a little gem, staff are fantastic, if you get a better chef in edinburgh, I shall eat my hat...yes, he is that good. Sarah who leads her team, is a first class restaurant manager, hope we've got her title correct. And hats off to the rest of the staff, first class. Can't wait to go again. My friend and I recently went to the Magnum for lunch. We were both extremely impressed with the food and the service. The food was out of this world. We had several dishes from the small plates menu and each one was delicious and the presentation was fantastic. We wish we’d have had room to eat all of the dishes off this menu. Whilst there, we saw the level of food that was being served to other customers. We will definitely be going back to try more. Compliments to the chef with his eye for detail and quality. The service was excellent as well. Sarah, one of the waitresses and Rob, the manager, went out of their way to ensure that we had a wonderful time, and we were only there for lunch. We weren’t big spenders. It was a nice cozy environment and I would recommend this place to anyone. Thank you. We’ll see you soon.

Everything about the Scotch Malt Whisky Society, Queen Street, Edinburgh is excellent. There is a public bar on the ground floor but as members we used the Members Room on the first floor. The staff were excellent and really knew their stuff when it came to whisky. The food was also excellent, and the atmosphere was warm, inviting and friendly. Not too formal, the whole experience was exceptional.

Nice vibe but I'd like a real cup when I have a coffee, not environmental friendly. I'd also like to use a toilet but the staff tell me the place is not a restaurant/cafe. You could have fooled me. The staff told me they don't have one and dont need one as they are predominantly carry-out. Surely an eating establishment should have a toilet? Apparantly not! Where do your staff go? Won't be back.

Sugerido a mi hermana y a mí por un pariente que visitó Edimburgo recientemente, fuimos a The Piemaker para algo rápido, un viernes por la noche. Gloria en el mostrador no solo era útil, sino que también estaba muy interesado en explicar recetas y sabores. Ella era habladora, tanto como nosotros, y nos dio información adicional sobre cosas que estaban pasando en el centro de la ciudad esa noche, música en vivo y así sucesivamente. Los pasteles eran bastante buenos y aquí es donde tuve mi primer pastel de haggis apropiado.
