Great place... traditional and relaxed pub

Came in for a last round and ended up staying for the live Scottish jam session at the table next to us. Fantastic service and atmosphere.

Fantastic pub for beer food & sport

Superb. Can’t believe I’ve lived here for so long and only just been. Went with friends for Sunday lunch and all roasts and pies were phenomenal. Great big portions, generous with all components of the roast. I had the special pheasant balmoral which was amazing and the gravy was top tier. Chips, yorkshires and roasties were all top class. So glad to have found this place. Proper good pub grub off the beaten track.

Come here near every week for the quiz night. The mac n cheese and the chips are to die for and it's always a lovely atmosphere.

Nice place but don't go Monday's... kitchens are closed. The beer is good

First time for food and the Wednesday pub quiz here and found it to be very tasty, I'd say the food here is of a higher quality than that of the Bailie Bar which is further along the street. Friendly bar staff!

Lager did not taste as it should as I drink the lager regularly. Maybe they need to clean their pipes more regularly especially with the price they charge for a pint.

Fantastic hidden gem with a great cosy atmosphere, friendly welcoming staff and great food. The bar itself is decorated in a cosy traditional style and host quiz nights on Wednesday and Sundays. There are pub games in the back corner to entertain you while enjoy a drink. Moving on to the food it is fantastic especially for the price. I had the MacDillon burger, it was cooked beautifully and the burger was a proper burger patty rather than a frozen mass produced one. Can't wait to go back.

Man kann hier nicht nur gut was trinken sondern auch gut essen. Ich kann den Fasan nur empfehlen! Besonders am Donnerstag war es nett, denn da gibt es netten Folk auf die Ohren!

The biggest most delicious and value for money Sunday Roast ever had.....beautiful beef (great veggie/vegan option) gigantic homemade yorkies, crispy roast potatoes rich gravy and imaginative veg all served with a smile and chat. Great bloody marys too. Thanks 😊 🙏

We usually go here just for drinks but today we tried the Sunday roast and it was really great. We tried the beef roast, the duck roast and the pheasant roast. I can't say which one was the best because all of them were amazing.

Nothing really unique here that can't be found at other pubs, but not a bad experience by any means. There's music here some times I'm told, so that might set it apart from the rest, but there was none the night I went so I can't comment on that.

First time visit on a rugby weekend where it was a Scotland, Ireland double win against worthy opponents! Bar full, atmosphere charged and friendly, lovely selection of food & drink.....basement rugby watching as a single lady at its best!!

Always a winner for a Sunday roast of seasonal game. Portions are beyond generous with homemade Yorkshire puddings and tons of accurately cooked vegetables. Their cow pie special was superb. It was packed with venison and crispy pasty with tons of gravy inside and lovely rustic chips. Good craft beer offering and one of the few decent places to watch live sport in Edinburgh

Very tasty breakfast, slightly on the expensive side. Staff aren’t super inviting but they are friendly.

As visitors to Stockbridge we were recommended by locals . The food was absolutely delicious, I had the pasta salmon special, I’d love the recipe, a green ribbed pasta , fabulous, my friends had the Pheasant Balmoral and Beef dishes . The staff were very friendly and helpful with menu suggestions. I’ll definitely return.

Sat a table (one of many) that had reserved signs for 7/7.30pm. The table we sat at was reserved for 7pm. At 7.30 no one had shown up. We asked if we could have another drink and was told no!!!. We were told that as the football (England and Italy) wasn't starting till 8pm people might arrive a bit later. Basically we were thrown out! Obviously the tables were reserved for their regulars.The bar was pretty much empty when we were told we couldn't stay for another drink. It wasn't a good feeling.The antiquary used to be my local when I lived in Stockbridge a few years back and the staff then would never have treated customers like we were treated. Covid isn't an excuse for poor customer service.

Still a great place for breakfast! Been here lots of times and still not met anywhere else that will match it on quality and price. I always have the wee breakfast and its fantastic. My partner has the pancakes with bacon . Our waitress Danika was well on the ball as she was with the other customers.Give this place a visit you will not be disappointed.

Me apetecía algo pesado (más o menos) como un almuerzo tardío / cena temprana y tropecé con The Antiquary (esta es mi segunda visita). No teníamos una reserva, así que esperábamos que una visita sin cita previa estuviera bien.Hacen comida de pub en general; desayuno caliente completo, pescado y patatas fritas, tarta y patatas fritas, hamburguesas, etc., etc. (también hacen un asado los domingos). Sin embargo, también tienen especiales y hoy me sentí como algo diferente.Me sorprendió gratamente cuando llegó un delicioso trozo de salmón (frito en sartén), colocado sobre papas asadas (mezcladas con calabacín y chorizo) y acompañado con una ensalada de col de apio nabo. Esta comida fue deliciosa y mucho más de lo que cabría esperar de un pub. Mi compañero pidió la hamburguesa de pollo que estaba bien (y abundante).Recibimos servicio de mesa, pero solo podemos asumir que esto se debe a razones coviduales.

I met some friends for a catch up in the bar on Saturday wich seemed lovely at first. Later on in the evening around 8.50pm me and 4 of my friends decided to sit at the bar after ordering drinks. Out of the blue We were asked by a member of the bar staff "girl with the pink hair" to sit at the tables instead of the bar because I quote "our patter is sh*t". Our patter may have been poor but was not inappropriate or offence in anyway. Initially we thought this was a joke,however, it was not. She then said we need to move because we were "blocking the bar" which if you look at the cameras at around 8.50pm, apart from us there was maybe 2 others individuals at the bar who already had drinks. I have never felt more uncomfortable in bar. In my eyes it is probably the worst service I have ever experienced in a bar/restaurant. It resulted in me and my friends leaving to move to another pub. It seemed like a nice venue however the poor staff ruined this (girl with the pink, the other bar staff were lovely).

Reservé una mesa para el almuerzo después de leer en su sitio web que podría estar bastante ocupado. Llegué 10-15 minutos antes para encontrar un lugar tranquilo. Algunas personas en el bar viendo deporte y algunas mesas ocupadas. Me acerqué a un miembro del personal y le pregunté por mi mesa. La respuesta fue más bien grosera: "ahí estará". Seguí el dedo puntiagudo y me senté a la mesa con mi nombre y mi hora en una pizarra reservada para esperar a mi amigo y algún servicio. El servicio nunca llegó. Me senté durante quince minutos y, a pesar de que uno de los miembros del personal estaba limpiando la mesa a mi lado, nadie vino a ofrecerme una bebida o un menú. Fui descaradamente ignorado. Puedo apreciar que se me pase por alto cuando un lugar está ocupado, pero cuando el personal está sentado en taburetes en el bar de espaldas a ti, es inaceptable. Después de 20 minutos me fui para ir a un bar mucho mejor, más concurrido y amigable donde disfrutamos de un muy buen almuerzo. Dudo que alguna vez regrese.

Staff very unfriendly and talking about customers when sitting near by. Drinks reasonable price and live sport is great but staff were very rude to us, thus we would not return again.

Walking around on New Year's Day we decided to grab some lunch. Not many places open and those which were appeared to be full.Saw the lights on here and popped in to our surprise it was quite empty. Meant we could get a seat and food was still being cooked.Ordered a Gourmet Burger (choosing the venison and handcut chips) and a Highlander Burger (beef with handcut chips). Both burgers were good and freshly made (think homemade style burgers)...just remember freshly cooked means it takes time! Sides were good too. Washed down with a pint of beer each.Only drawback, the table we sat at was so sticky it was unreal, the pint glasses kept sticking to the table.Would happily return.

Great place to have a meal and our dog was made welcome. 3 of us had the Venison Stew in red wine - wonderful!

The Antiquary is an old traditional basement pub, in a charming neighborhood,that serve amazing authentic Scottish meals. It has a cozy, rustic interior and we were lucky to be offered a nice table near the fireplace. Food like eating home! Well cooked and very tasty! Also cheap prices under 15£ per meal. The portions are huge and a 2 people portion could easily feed 3 hungry adults I particularly enjoyed the chef specialities "Pheasant Balmoral" and the "Cow Pie", both cooked to perfection. Drinks include well-known draughts and a decent selection of malt whiskies. We had "Guinness" but we'll go back to try more local beers. Totally enjoyable for couples or friend dinner! Service was prompt, efficient and friendly. Highly recommend it!

I went here the other day for supper. The staff were really friendly and I had no idea the food was so good. I had the "cow pie" with chips. This pub has two sections so you can chill out and eat in one or you can watch sport in the other.

Servicio lento como de costumbre, incluso cuando la barra está vacía. Me prometieron que me trajeran un vaso con hielo a mi mesa ya que el hielo no estaba listo, pero nunca llegó. Se intercambiaron palabras fuertes entre 2 partes (un anciano solo y otros 2 hombres juntos). Esto involucró a los 2 hombres que juraban en el pub e intentaban iniciar una pelea con el anciano. El personal del bar no hizo absolutamente nada a pesar de que vieron el incidente, dejando a todos en el bar incómodos. Esto dio lugar a 4 personas que abandonan el. . . Ya tenemos el bar vacío, y no regresaremos aunque este sea nuestro local.

Bebida rápida aquí después de una comida. Estaba muy ocupado, ruidoso y sofocante en la primera área en la que se ingresa desde la calle (nivel del sótano) pero el área del salón más grande era mejor. Tuvimos suerte y conseguimos un asiento. No se quedó mucho tiempo, pero sentí que tenía un ambiente agradable, un entorno cómodo, un inodoro inmaculado y un servicio rápido. La primera vez aquí, consideraría volver si en el área de nuevo.

Si bien, en general, los Pubs no son lugares donde merezca expresamente ir por la comida, este si merece una peregrinación por lo menos en domingo, cuando se sirve su desayuno especial de 11 a 14 horas y su tradicional sunday roast desde las 12:30.

Found this place by accident while on a weekend visiting Edinburgh and what a find it was! Really cozy, relaxed atmosphere and a great Sunday lunch menu; I had the venison casserole which I'm still dreaming about - so delicious and one of the best meals I've ever had! My friends had the risotto and the beef pie and they both raved about the food as well. Staff were super helpful, we settled in for the afternoon by the fire - would highly recommend it to anyone in the area to call in, you won't be disappointed!

Nice traditional bar with a cosy feel. Ales are a little limited. Plenty of light ales but porters or stouts sparse, as with many bars. Atmostphere is everything and this place has it.

A eso de las 21:00h un grupo folk montados con una variedad de instrumentos y nos trataron de una sesión acústica que realmente disfrutamos. Había un buzucci fiddles, guitarras y acordeones una flauta. Antes teníamos comida. Tres de nosotros tuvimos el balmoral faisán servido con papas, faisán asado, puré y verdaderos asnos verdes con un rico vino tinto. Disfrutamos de la comida, excepto para dos de nosotros era demasiado salada. Nuestro otro amigo tenía el risotto de hongos. preciosa Comida a un precio razonable.

Visitamos hoy aquí con mi marido, y hace unas semanas con algunos amigos. Preciosa mujer joven nos sirve. Muy alegre. Buena comida, porciones enormes. Muy bien presentado y muy rico. Difícilmente nos podíamos mover después. No hay espacio para budín, por desgracia. El lugar tiene un ambiente acogedor. Sin duda merece la pena una visita, o dos!

El personal aquí es uno de los mejores que he visto. Copa del Mundo puede ser una locura y que era eficiente y amable. La comida era buena, con ingredientes locales.

Come here for drinks and food a lot and it’s bang on. Great drinks deals at the bar, £2.50 for bottles of beer in Stockbridge is fantastic value. Shots and spirits are also great value for such a popular area. Good quality pub grub too would definitely recommend to anyone!

Nous avons passé notre dernière soirée en famille dans ce pub et ce fut génial. Il faut y aller le jeudi soir, des musiciens viennent partager leur plaisir de jouer de la musique traditionnelle écossaise. Le soir où nous y étions, il y avait 8 musiciens (ils peuvent être plus ou moins). La patronne est très sympa, nous y avons très bien mangé. Nous recommandons ce pub !

Noche concurrida, te dicen que habrá que esperar para la comida pero vale la pena. 2 hamburguesas sabrosas y un venado cazuelas regados con vino agradable. Buena relación calidad-precio y pub tenía buen ambiente, era acogedor, el personal amable y eficiente. Vale la pena la espera y merece una visita.

Wow. Food is awesome. Couldn’t fault a tiny thing with the food... this place is good traditional pub grub. Lass behind the bar was lovely. Family friendly (until 6pm). Everything homemade. I ordered the steak pie but across the room I spied the best looking Sunday roasts! FOOD ENVY! Thanks for accommodating kids. Not many places do. We’ll be back

Watched the rugby six nations in here. Very good atmosphere. Lovely lager on draft and food was good. Our friend especially enjoyed the fish pasta. Only thing not happy with was that it was a bit cold near the window

Rare roast beef, plentiful crisp roast potatoes, a huge Yorkshire pudding and abundance of fresh veg made this a fantastic lunch. Had to share a sticky toffee pudding but well worth saving/ finding room. Even the coffee was brilliant.

Great night of good beer and music. Visited on folk night (every second Thursday)music was "session' so very random and very good. Brilliant atmosphere.

I was staying in Stockbridge and happened to stumble across this gem. I wanted a traditional meal, rather than dominos or fish and chips and was happy that they were open and serving food all day.

Stopped in on a recommendation and so glad we did!! Lovely wee pub - traditional pub with such a chilled vibe. A wee sanctuary in the city! Service was friendly although we did have to wait a bit as the barmaid was chatting but she included us and made a joke of it. The food though - amazing! Little bit of a wait but so worth it! Beautiful cow pie with suet pastry!! And big chunky chips! Yum!! All in, the atmosphere, food and staff made it such a good evening. We will definitely be back....

Dropped in to celebrate Christmas with a few friends,after waiting 5-10 mins for a drink was told that i should get away from the bar and let the locals in ,, there was only one person serving so the bar was busy people trying to get served

Let’s qualify that —- the music is on Thursday evenings starting at 8.30pm. It’s an informal session. The evening we visited we heard some good quality Scottish standards and a few that we didn’t know. We munched on some top quality burgers whilst listening to the music. (The menu was quite impressive and the prices were reasonable). The pub didn’t have the widest selection of beers but what they had on tap was good. Friendly staff. I’ll definitely go back next time I’m in the Stockbridge area.

This place is located in the trendy Stockbridge neighborhood but still manages to feel welcoming. The bartenders will joke and talk with you and seem genuinely interested while still managing to do their jobs efficiently. The decor is just what you'd have in mind if you pictured a warm Scottish pub. And the venison casserole...I nearly licked my bowl! Seriously amazing! Thursdays they have a jam session, which I sadly missed. Next time...

Esta situado en una zona tranquila, alejado de los turistas. Es amplio con variedad de cervezas de grifo y se sirven cenas. Hay música tradicional algunos días y la gente suele jugar a juegos de mesa.

Have eaten here lots, food in general is fantastic!!!! The Sunday lunch is the best you will get anywhere, great staff, great atmosphere, great chef!

We really enjoyed our visit. Travelling through Edinburgh with the dog and stopped here for lunch. The service and food are both fantastic, we all thoroughly enjoyed our meals. There was a great choice on the menu. We'll definitely return next time we're in the area.

We had the pleasure to have my retirement drinks here , staff from management whilst booking couldn't have been more helpful ! On the night all bar staff very attentive and with a smile served a large ish group easily...thanks to you all a great night was had . Really excellent food and service: so many dishes looked excellent on the menu, settled for two roast beefs, roast pheasant (wrapped in bacon and stuffed with haggis!) and a venison pie. Dog friendly and very accommodating for coeliacs as well. Super pub!

Yesterday I was there with some friends for the Sunday Roast. The pub is cozy and large. We ordered some beers (which were actually great!), come goat cheese crostini (very very good!), and 7 sunday roasts (three venisons, four beefs). The meat was good, probably not very well cooked. Nothing special. At the end we choose to take apple crumble, apple pie and chocolate brownies. Apple crumble was a complete disaster, it smelled of cheese probably due to the butter. Horrible! Whisky was good.

I'm always impressed that the ground floor/basement pubs in Edinburgh manage to do such a good job and this place is no exception. Loads of good beer on draft and food looked decent too. Doesn't set the world alight but would definitely recommend to all

Spoilt for choice in Stockbridge, this was our first time eating here although we've visited for drinks previously. Don't be put off by the rather gloomy interior that greets you as you step down from the street. We were warmly welcomed by the front of house/ sole barmaid. And very impressed by the menu. We were even more impressed when our food arrived. Our 90 year old mum loved her beautifully presented "fish of the day" dish, haddock fillet in a light crumb served on top of a delicious melange of veg including sautéed spuds, roast fennel and sun dried tomatoes. Other dishes included Pheasant Balmoral, stuffed with haggis, wrapped in pancetta served alongside potatoes Parisiènnes, and two very man sized platefuls of Cow Pie & Venison Pie. All exquisite and piping hot. Our bill for 4 main courses plus wine and 6 pints of beer was £76. For bar food at its best with a great selection of beers and a simple flatly priced wine list, you can't go wrong by paying this place a visit. We hear great reports of their Sunday Roast. We'll be back to investigate. Our only minor issue was that it was bordering on being uncomfortably cold at our corner table by the window. The pub was very quiet and we could have sat somewhere else if we'd been that bothered.

Met some friends here a couple weeks back. Had never been in before but my friends go all the time. I can see why. It's a cosy basement pub with a good atmosphere and didn't feel too crowded even on a Saturday night. Decent selection of drinks, i settled for the house red which was a very drinkable wine with lots of flavour. Only qualm would be the burger i ordered. Nothing wrong with presentation etc but the meat was a bit shoddy, they should think about different suppliers as i've had burgers in many places around Edinburgh and this was one of the weaker options. On the plus side though great chips!I can see myself returning.

Love coming to the Antiquary for a pint but never properly tried the menu other than breakfast stuff. We went for dinner last night and can't wait to go back and try more!We got the cow pie, fish and chips and the venison burger and all were absolutely delicious. The pie was huge with tender beef in the middle and a tasty gravy. The homemade chips were outstanding! We shared the sticky toffee pudding for dessert, it was so moist and the sauce was amazing.The quiz was a lot of fun; even though we came last! The quiz master was great and a funny guy!Great pint as always and a big plus the place is dog friendly! My Labrador had a cracking night too :)

The dictionary definition of "Antiquary" is someone who collects antiques. It is also the name of a very old basement pub in St Stephen Street in the Stockbridge district of Edinburgh.As a bit of an Edinburgh antique myself I was unaware of this establishment until recently when I happened on it with some friends in our search for some lunch in that area.What a find, what an extensive menu, ranging from cow pie to venison to pheasant. This was no ordinary pub grub. Exquisitely cooked (not micro-waved), beautifully presented and well served what is there not to like about this place? My friends and I were of a mind that this ranks among the best pub food we have ever had the pleasure to taste and we do have some experience in that regard.P.S. I won't mention the puddings!!
