As a fan of Tom when it comes to the celebrity chef scene and local entrepreneur we knew we were set for a blast. But hey, there’s always room for a bad day at the office, well, last night was one of these days. Booked for some scran with the fam and as always we smacked few classy bevies couple of doors doon the road at the Blackbird. Stunning wee boozer. Rocked up for dinner and the place was pretty buzzing which is always good to see. Although it grabbed our attention that there wasn’t many members of staff that particular night, but we know how professional they are and expected nothing but a great culinary experience. Fun and games so we start teeing off with the munch; Mallard and haggis the only two things that were up to par. Ragu, cod , cesar salad, pātes and ribs not even close to the to quality you’d be thinking of a top tier gastro pub. Desserts were orite. Great Rioja. Birds at the front of the hoose weren’t coping at all but they put a lot of effort on it. We’ll be back

The service here was non existent. We managed to get one glass of wine each all evening and that was it. There is 12.5% added to your bill automatically for service so the staff obviously don’t need to make any effort. I had the Mushroom main. I had understood when I ordered it that it would be a pasta dish but in reality it was a convoluted mis-mash of ingredients that tasted of nothing. The best thing about our mains was the side of chips that came with my husbands dish. The lighting was really bright, it was very hot and the tables were very close together. We didn’t order desserts or coffee as we were keen to bring this disappointing evening to an end. Not recommended.

Me and my partner came here for an evening meal. The bar service was excellent. However, table service was lacking. The first two male servers were great, incredibly accommodating. However ( I assume they finished their shifts) later on ( nearer to the end of our meal) our waitress was rude and dismissive. She dropped desert menus on tables carelessly and walked off. Could tell she didn’t care. Expected more from restaurant of this standard , especially as we travelled far to experience it.

3 and a half stars if halves possible. Very happy to start with the positives. Service throughout was exemplary from everyone who served us. The surroundings are relaxing, the welcome warm and no indication we were on a timed stay. More later. The occasion was a significant birthday celebration present from a daughter and husband (and 3 yr Puddy). So we decided we would have 3 courses and forgo bread. Except my wife changed her mind! The outcome was gluten free bread so good we fought over it. Our starters were an endive salad, walnuts and apple with smoky cheese. I loved my taste but my wife thought too acidic. My scallops were overwhelmed by the ' burnt butter and oil' dressing. Interesting but no scallops flavour escaped. Unfortunately my wife's chicken main was tasteless and replaced by the cod tempura which was appreciated but of course did take a considerable time. My Wagyu beef pasta dish was divine and I was severely tempted to lick the plate. Our desserts continued the good/not so good. The rice terrific but the chocolate fondant (runny chockie pudding) was overcooked with the chocolate having to work hard to edge onto the plate. My wife's rice dish was heavenly however. The wines and coffees were fine. We really did enjoy our evening. Service is on the slow side and the alternative main took time and our stay was best part of four hours. There was no suggestion of needing to vacate the table and all comments were accepted in good faith and we understand are reported back. I thought this was our first visit to Kora and that our previous visit was to the Southside Scran 🤔. My daughter in law was adamant it was Kora. She was right. I had forgotten It was on the 14th February 2023 and my review was 5 stars for everything then which prompted my daughter to choose here again. One point I would make is that when several things are below par, especially if a main involved, a bill reduction should be considered. If I had been paying I would have suggested that. We were however very happy to include the service charge.

My wife and I went here for a birthday celebration dinner. The fittings and ambience are nice - reasonably informal and relaxing surrounds. Staff were generally friendly and attentive. Our first courses were very nice and our mains were reasonable, but the dessert we ordered to share was quite literally inedible. I don't think I've ever experienced something like that before at a relatively expensive venue like this. I can only assume it had been sitting in a fridge for a number of days based on how stale and off it tasted. That really took the shine off the whole evening, and I felt their response was a little underwhelming too.

Was very disappointed with KORA. Staff at the front desk greeted us and were pleasant. However, the server we had wasn't very attentive, and the service was very slow. In total, our bill came too £198.58. £67.75 on drinks and £108.75 on food with £22.08 Gratuity added to the bill. We had two bottles of sparkling water at £5 each 2 cocktails and a bottle of red wine. The cocktails were poor for the price and lacked alcohol, and the red wine cost £31.75 which you can probably buy for under £10 it was really poor quality. The food was all under seasoned and was just very under whelming as you would expect better from a restaurant associated with Tom Kitchin. Wont be returning much better places around for the money.

Mmmmmm. Well, this was a big family celebration lunch. I think we made the mistake of booking for 2.30 …… usually not a good idea as the kitchen goes awol after lunch service in most places. So, food and drink service was pretty poor. Had to summon service just to get a first drink order which never seemed to appear. Food was just “ok”. VFM? Not really. Atmosphere at 3pm is non-existent. Do I wish we had gone elsewhere? A regretful YES. But you can’t recreate the occasion, hence this unexpectedly poor review. Staff were quite nice but not enough of them. Sorry.

Had a delicious meal in Kora. Decor is warm and cosy. Cocktails were amazing. Food was simply delicious - had 3 courses which I never do but had to try everything. The fried chicken was the best I’ve ever had, tempura cod followed - also excellent. Langoustines were on as a special and could be added to any dish. Finished with doughnuts - was disappointed they didn’t have jam in them. Staff were all very friendly. Only slight negative comment is that at no stage were we asked if everything was all right and they were slow to clear the table. That said, I will definitely go back.

This would have been a 5 star review except for a single error, which would have been totally forgivable had it not been compounded by how it was rectified. I ordered a glass of sparkling wine and the bread to start, followed by a Sunday roast with a glass of red wine. Either there was a misunderstanding or it was forgotten, but the sparkling wine did not come out either before the starter or alongside it. I decided I would go without it. Then the main came, with no red wine. I waited a while, in case it was on its way, but it did not show. I chased the red wine and it duly came – along with the glass of sparkling wine. I was served two drinks at the same time. My options were to down the sparkling wine mid-roast dinner, and move onto my red, or leave the sparkling wine till the end of my meal. I chose the latter. I could taste that the sparkling wine was of a very good quality, but it would have tasted much better as the aperitif I ordered it to be. Other than this, the meal was flawless. The roast dinner was delicious and the staff were very friendly.

While on the slightly more expensive side, this restaurant sells impeccable food. It has an extensive menu and also offers some Scottish cuisine (the haggis, neeps and tatties are exquisite). You get what you pay for in hospitality: the service, ambience of the restaurant itself and the quality and flavours of the dishes are representative of fhe best Scotland has to offer, and well worth the price. We treated ourselves to a nice bottle of Champagne and I was blown away at how refreshing and tasty it was. The staff were very attentive. We were a late booking, and even though we stayed well past closing time, we never felt rushed once. It was a truly special evening and I would 100% return here again. Went here as 2 familes, each with one young child. Kids menu with good options; son had chicken tenders and he loved them. Highchairs available. Atmosphere of the restaurant feels upscale but with a homey feel. I loved it. But it wasn't "Too fancy" and you could be dressed any way and fit in. Service was ok - felt a bit abandoned at the beginning as our waitress took a long time to come and take our drink order and then food order. Drinks were pricey but delicious. Food was quite good all around! But the caesar salad with my wagyu beef had anchovies on it and I just couldn't eat it... but the beef was delicious! Everyone else enjoyed their meals a lot. I think with more attentive staff that this could have been 5stars all around. Do try!

Food beautifully presented, service fabulous, surroundings attractive. The service was lovely. Natural, friendly, sweet and efficient. The food looked very pretty but wasn't that exciting. It didn't compare well to other restaurants in the area, like Fin and Grape or Three Birds. I had the Kora chicken, which I really enjoyed, but then unfortunately the meal stopped being so impressive. The mushroom tortellini was under-seasoned and didn't really taste of much. Then the doughnuts which I'd seen being served to someone else, looked incredible but weren't that exciting (somehow!). It was all fine and perfectly nice, but definitely not as delicious as I'd hoped.

Wine ordered during the food order. We weren't asked when we wanted our wine. It felt like it came when someone remembered. It is a fine dining restaurant, but almost fully dissapointing one. Due to we reach their menu online, to taste deer meat we choose this place. However, they said they changed their menu a couple of days before. We didn’t problem it and decide to try wagyu meat. Starters are ok but coctails are not. Also they provide whiskey tasting with different labels. In the place, all staff was smiling and they are fully informed what they present. However you have to say your customers if a wagyu steak will come as shredded meat with a disgusting demi glaze sauce. We had to finish our plate because we paid a tidy amount but it was totally dissapointing.

Went here for brunch, and the food and drinks were good. Had a voucher which specified that it covered food, orange juice, tea/coffee and cocktail. However, we were left with a bill to pay at the end, and upon checking terms and conditions, discovered that all vouchers are only good for the monetary value paid for them (even though the voucher didn't specify that value on it). We did pick some of the pricier options, but you would have had to pick pretty much the cheapest of everything to fit within the value - left a bit of a bad taste in the mouth. Service was friendly enough but slower and less attentive than I would have expected given it was pretty quiet.

Very nice decoration. Very friendly staff. Food not up to standard. Starter: Ordered the Gurnard and was very Disappointed with the complete Lack of Flavour. It was basically little cubes of raw fish that hadn't been marinated. The only thing that saved it was lemon that I had to ask for. Main: Ordered the Wagyu plus a side of boulangére potatoes. The meat was basically pulled beef that had been pressed together into a matchbox shape covered with an extremely salty glaze. It was a very unpleasant experience to realise the reconstituted kind of feeling. It came with a wedge of lettuce that was covered with some sort of mayonnaise, topped with anchovies and crispy bits of parmaham. Everything was extremely salty. The side of potatoes was again, way too salty. I Hate leaving food, but it was Impossible to finish both the beef, salad and potatoes. At the end, I ordered a double espresso that I had to send back because it was extremely burnt. Overall I was quite disappointed. I hope my review will help this restaurant improve their food.

Just walking into the place, Kora was warm and cozy on a cold Edinburgh night. The main host was very personalble and also made a great Old Fashioned. We started with the gyzos, and for mains, we had the Sunday Roast, the Sika Deer, and the steak with Caesar salad. EVERYTHING was incredible. Food, all lovely but the scallops (3 pieces sliced rather meanly) were over cooked. Main courses, cod, kobe, beef Wellington and cauliflower were all lovely. The desserts, creme brule was very shallow, but tasty. The pana cotta had a subtle taste of cinnamon. A nice enough dining experience (more like 3.5 stars here) but it feels like Tom has taken on too much with this venture. The menu is priced in between Scran & Scallie and The Kitchin which are both excellent, leaving me to assume that the dishes would be closer to the fine dining realm of The Kitchin than the other direction of gastropub. I was wrong. Bar snacks were generous and mains portions were surprisingly large, leaving me wondering where the starters fall into the mix but glad I didn't opt for one at the rate of ~£16. The main dishes, while tasty, are quite casually presented and leave something to be desired for the prices. My wagyu beef pasta was lovely with mediterranean flavours but halfway through the dish it was a chore. An overall nice meal without much service or fuss (which is fine) but we left with the figure of the bill concluding that it simply wasn't good value for money. Happy to give it four stars here but as value is different for everyone, you'll have to try for yourself.

We were really looking forward to brunch with our daughter at Kora by Tom Kitchen, but were sadly disappointed by the experience. It’s a lovely restaurant and first impressions were good when we arrived at 11:15 on the last weekend in January, but we started to get frustrated by the slow service, which started with a long wait for a server to come over and just ask us for coffee and juices. This was in a restaurant that had 3 or 4 occupied tables, out of maybe 20. The menu looked promising, but the food was not at the level we might have expected, with my wife and daughter’s nice salmon and scrambled eggs accompanied by cold, hard sourdough toast and unripe avocado. My Arnold Bennett omelette looked nice, but was rather dry and tasteless. Service remained inattentive throughout and we were not asked once about how things were or if we needed anything else. We were left to try our best to attract servers’ attention for more beverages and in the end just gave up. A real shame as expectations were high, given the chef’s reputation - a real letdown.

Exceptional Anniversary Dinner at KORA by Tom Kitchen My wife and I celebrated our 2-year wedding anniversary at KORA by Tom Kitchen, and it was an unforgettable experience deserving of a 5-star review. The restaurant, located in Bruntsfield, Edinburgh, pleasantly surprised us with its spacious, modern, clean, and comfortable ambiance. The exceptional service added to the overall enjoyment, particularly thanks to our waiter, a Polish gentleman whose professionalism, warmth, menu knowledge, and engaging banter enhanced our dining experience. While the prices are on the higher side, the quality of each dish justified the expense. The menu, though not extensive, offered premium and precise options catering to various diets. We started with the delightful combination of sourdough bread and Scottish salted butter, setting the tone for what turned out to be an exquisite meal. In terms of drinks, I opted for the Kora Sunrise, an alcohol-free cocktail with an interesting and acquired taste, while my wife enjoyed a simple yet refreshing lemonade. Water was served for the table. The highlight of our starters was the Pumpkin Tortellini, served in an actual pumpkin, creating a deliciously buttery sensation. Our adventurous choice of Pork Rillettes provided a unique experience, resembling pâté and accompanied by crusty bread. For mains, I enjoyed the flavorful Pheasant Schnitzel with roasted veg, while my wife savored the Roasted North Sea Cod with crushed potatoes and watercress velouté. Though the portions were slightly on the smaller side, the quality and taste were undeniable. The fries, in particular, were outstanding, even though the price for the cod seemed a bit steep. Dessert was a delightful affair with the Crème Brûlée, a fruit and nut creation (apologies for forgetting the name), and a heavenly Chocolate Lava Cake with ice cream. Each dessert showcased the chef's expertise and ended our meal on a sweet note. Booking in advance is highly recommended, given the popularity of this establishment. The true highlight of our evening was our main server, a genuine gentleman who added a personal touch to our celebration. In conclusion, KORA by Tom Kitchen offers a top-notch dining experience with a few minor drawbacks, including the higher price point. However, the impeccable service, quality dishes, and standout items like the Pumpkin Tortellini make it a deserving choice for special occasions.

Nice food. Decent value. However simple things for a restaurant of this standard missed such as forgetting or not putting your wine order through and not offering to take your coats on entry. If you want claim high standard status you need to have high standard service

I have been a fan of Tom Kitchin for many years, The Kitchin in Leith always goes above and beyond. I was looking to book The Kitchin for a special Xmas dinner with friends but when I looked at the menu, I realised that its now outrageously expensive. With the above in mind, I decided to book a table at Kora. Kora is sold on the basis of good food, well cooked well prepared and served in a friendly atmosphere. In fact the reviews seem to be giving it a glowing report. Well alas on this occasion, it failed to live up to glowing reports. I ordered 6 oysters as a starter, these were plump, juicy and went down a treat although at nearly £4.00 an oyster, I thought expensive. My main was a fish soup, exquisitely described as "Newhaven day boat fish....." alas it failed to live up to my expectation and its description. The soup arrived as 2 parts, the fish and vegetables with a small jug of the liquid soup. The first thing that caught my attention was the lack of fish, hardly anything and a surprise, a very small piece of salmon. It must have been a very very lucky day boat to have caught a salmon. The waiter then poured the soup onto the plate and I laughed, there was not even enough liquid to cover the bottom of the bowl! The soup was not cheap £28.00 and not even enough liquid to cover the bottom of the bowl! Had I not been with friends I would have made a comment to the waiter, but being a typical Scot, I did not want to make a fuss and spoil things for others. I was so looking forward to this dinner as it had been booked well in advance. My disappointment was obvious to my guests who said I had just made a bad choice. At this level of dining, there should not be any bad choices. Would I go back.....I don't think so, Tom and his team seem to have lost direction, they are resting on their reputation and reputations are very fragile. They need to up their game to keep them ahead of the many other restaurants of that calibre out there.

So massively disappointed in this dinner. I had huge expectations, having eaten at all of the other Tom Kitchen restaurants (and loved them) and was let down on all fronts. Firstly, we were seated at a strange table, sitting next to each other instead of across (it was an anniversary, so not ideal, but not a deal breaker). Starters arrived, I had the Kora fried chicken, which was not great and had a strong aftertaste, also it was presented in a steamer, which makes no sense, as it fried - rookie plating, in my opinion. My partner had the scallops, which were a bit grim, and they forgot the bacon bits. Our drinks didn't arrive either, and the sommelier did not even come to our table (i ended up using Chat GPT to pair my wine, which worked very well!) and we had to constantly remind staff to please bring our drinks. All annoying, but whatever. The main issue was the main course, I had the cauliflower, which was, to put it nicely, inedible. I never send food back, I have a pretty big tolerance, but for £18 I had no choice but to send it back. Even the server said she thought it looked bad. Lastly, no one cleared the glasses from our table, so by the end, the glasses from our starter were still there. Overall, for the price, I would go somewhere else. The actual restaurant was decorated beautifully, but there is no excuse to leave hungry from a restaurant with such a huge name behind it.

Massive shout out to the waiting staff at Kora. Our table wasn’t ready for about 15mins after our reservation time and we were treated to free cocktails, dips, bread and olives. Your charm and enthusiasm for your job made our night, and was simply delightful to experience. Back to the food, everything was as excellent as expected. We tried the scallops (correct), Jerusalem artichoke cream (amazing), trout (we all agreed calling it ‘ceviche’ set the wrong expectation), sika deer (a highlight), wagyu (creamed spinach was an unexpected, very delicious side), fregula (plating not at the level of the rest of the dishes). To nit pick, serving skinny fries with the Wagyu undersold the dish. We think they didn’t belong in that menu. Overall, a delightful evening we look forward to repeating soon!

Atmosphere felt uncomfortably stuffy, and my husband and I both disliked our entrees. (We didn’t finish either and ended up getting something else later.) This was especially disappointing given the many positive reviews.

Very good food but poor service. Long wait to be served, drinks delayed, dishes delayed. Apparently the kitchen had problems, even at 6 p.m. when it wasn't that busy - rather odd for a restaurant! Didn't feel that management were that bothered even after we complained. A disappointing experience - won't be back.

Had a beautiful meal here during our stay in Edinburgh. Our four course meal started with some brillant recommendations from our extremely attentive waiter and the quality of food continued throughout (even if we were too stuffed to finish our main!). Lovely wines too, brillant quality ingredients to make such beautiful looking and tasting food, for an overall amazing experience of a meal.

Disappointing, limited plant based option despite advertised wide array of options. Had bar snack corn as starter which was okay, had the cauliflower steak only available main which was delicious. No desert available. David the manager has no understanding of plant based meals and made me feel very uncomfortable.

Tom Kitchin is a well known name in Edinburgh, so I wanted to give this a try. The menu was pleasant, and utilises seasonal ingredients, much like Tom’s other establishments. However it lacks the wow factor. Service is perfectly fine, but for the menu pricing I expected more. Expensive dining is perfectly fine, but I think Kora is overpriced for the quality your receive. If you want to be WOW’d, i’d recommend the Palmerston instead; better food and atmosphere for a more reasonable price. Kora borders dangerously close to generic, and it appears they charge the prices they do just because of their owner’s name. Reusing certain dishes from his other restaurant, the Kitchin, was a lame move too. I was tempted to give this 3 stars because of the disappointment, but i’d say this is a solid 3.5, and round up to a 4. Overall, fine establishment, but a little disappointed. Won’t be returning.

It was amazing! Food was fantastic, I have a cod. It melted in the mouth. My daughter has had pasta with chanterelles, which is delicious. Desserts and snacks are so tasty. And the benefit of all this joy of atmosphere, service and kaleidoscope of taste was the personal welcome wishes of Mr Kitchin. Looking forward to being there one more time. Again and again :) Oh, I am very strict on the coffee taste. The coffee was one of the best too!!!

Fantastic lunch had here with lovely ambience, friend and welcoming service and delicious food. Well deserved accompaniment to the Kitchin group of restaurants. Our knowledgeable server recommended a number of dishes to us, including the grouse of which was phenomenal. Wine and cocktail list looked comprehensive, but both my partner and I were incredibly hungover… so I highly recommend their hot and iced coffees! Highly recommended!

Couldn't fault our dinner with friends at Ducks. Friendly service, lovely atmosphere and incredible food. In particular I have to shout out the desert which featured a sea buckthorn sorbet - genius! Wouldn't hesitate to recommend to anyone.
