The Southsider Pub in Edinburgh, City of

Came here to watch cheltenham… Honestly, this would be zero stars if i could…first of all, we checked out the menu online and saw 50% off cocktails and pitchers to then discover they’ve not done pitchers for 2 whole years and haven’t bothered to change the menu. Second of all, across the pub there was a trio of junkies doing shots at 12:30pm on a wednesday (classy) We then ordered food which was actually okay. Right as we finish our food all the local junkies come in, one sat near us coughing and spluttering and basically foaming at the mouth to which the staff did nothing so we promptly left. Wouldn’t come back even if i was paid to.

Apparently you need to have a “UK issued ID” to enter this pub according to the bouncer. Considering Edinburgh is a student city with a very large international population you would think the bouncers would know that not everyone is from the UK. It’s incredibly frustrating and completely ruins someone’s night, especially for international students and visitors who just want to enjoy a night out. A valid form of ID should be enough, whether it's from the UK or not. There are plenty of other pubs that will accept a regular normal EU ID, so I’d recommend taking your business somewhere else.

Great place for cheap drinks and good atmosphere

Cold evening went in to this bar. Very ordinary but all we wanted was a drink and a heat. Friendly people.

Went on Saturday for lunch with friends. We had such a great time we ended up staying until late evening. Food was excellent, all of the staff were really friendly and helpful. The atmosphere was great with some 80’s tunes being played at night after the footy. Absolute gem of a pub. My friends loved it too.

Our local pub - Incredible located, super helpful & friendly staff behind the bar (will update when I can find out the guy behind the bars name), cheap pints! Very full of students at peak times, but they're a good bunch!

Decent pub, lager a nice pint and reasonably priced. What would it take to get 5 stars? I'm unsure as generally I'm just having a quick pint before my bus but pub and quality of pint are great thanks.

Great local bar slightly of beaten track between popular BnBs and tourist spots situated in the Southside. Does great meal deals on their pub grub with specials everyday. All the footy covered as well with your own wee screen if your in a booth. Update as of September 2023, went in last tonight to watch the football and it was wall to wall students, think there has been a change of management, in the past it would have been locals watching the footy.

Maten här var otroligt god och man hade använt fina råvaror. Det blir 5 av 5 poäng. Visst är det en pub och jag gillar pubar, men kunde varit bättre miljö. Tjejen som jobba fixa bra och var glad medan man som jobba var inte lika positiv

Went here for lunch immediately after arriving on flight from US...jet-lagged but hungry. We couldn’t have chosen a better place to begin our visit to Scotland. Food, drinks, service, and atmosphere all excellent. Ordered fish abd chips, bacon and cheese burger with chips and onion rings, a pint of John Smith's and a glass of wine. Reasonably priced, especially since most lunch options come with a free or £1 upcharge for a pint of beer or glass of house wine. Can't beat it!

Never been here before a friend of mine recommended it and they were not wrong! Actually loved this place they have a great selection of wines and Gins (my favourite) also had I ordered some food I had the Veggie Burger which was absolutely delicious! The staff were so friendly and helpful especially Sarah thanks guys I will definitely be back on my next visit to Edinburgh

Popped in to watch the champions league on a Wednesday evening and the bar was very busy with a nice mixture of customers, got to the bar and was served by Michele who was very helpful with the selection of craft beer. The pint was spot on. Went up at half time and despite how busy it was, was served very quickly and politely by Ivan and ordered food. With in 15mins Hazel brought me over my veggie burger which was spot on and really hit the spot. Talked me into another beer after the match as well and ended up staying till close, great team of staff and wonderful atmosphere. Would highly recommend, super great value for money as well!

Estábamos en Edimburgo al margen. Vino a comer a The Southsider a tomar unas copas. Precioso pequeño pub con personal amable. Buen Pinot Grigio frío y cerveza fría para beber y un pequeño plato de queso como aperitivo. Volveremos la próxima vez que estemos en Edimburgo. ¡Gracias!

good atmosphere very busy during the fringe festival

Typical Scottish pub, with beautiful interiors and nice offer for food and drinks. The prices are also excellent (with a burger, the pint of beer is included). We tried mac & cheese and cheese and bacon burger, both delicious dishes. Friendly and quite fast service, even with the pub full of people. Absolutely recommended.

Tipico pub scozzese, con bellissimi interni e bella proposta per cibo e bevande. Ottimi anche i prezzi (con un burger, la pinta di birra è inclusa). Noi abbiamo provato mac & cheese e burger formaggio e bacon, entrambi i piatti buonissimi. Servizio amichevole e piuttosto veloce, anche con il pub pieno di gente. Assolutamente consigliato.

Most tunes were great. But you could leave the fringe rock off. A little most Van Morsin would be nice

Excellent food which we found to be very cheap. Two meals with two drinks for 22 pound an additional pound will upgrade your drink to a premium drink to the excellent selection of beers and spirits and mixers on offer. Nice pub restaurant with friendly staff. Would highly recommend this place!

Popped in at lunchtime so it was fairly empty, so the atmosphere was pretty flat. The beer was good and staff were very efficient. Only stayed for one pint as I had to get to somewhere else.

Typical Scottish pub, I frequented it during the Scotland match in the European Championships, enjoying the lively and tense atmosphere and the large crowd that filled it.

I have been here many times over the years and don’t mind coming in for pint or two and the food for the money is great value and good quality. I wouldn’t stay there for a sesh and the music that they play through the sound system must be the worst music I have heard in a pub.

James Girven poured me the best draft coke I’ve ever seen. Transcendent. Honestly unbelievable. Can’t believe it. Can’t get over it. Still talking about it. Also he’s lengers. Get this man a promotion. Also he’s lengers.

Great place to watch the match in a local atmosphere!

Was looking for somewhere for a quick bite and a drink before a show on a Friday night. Exactly what we were after. Burger and a soft drink for under a tenner each. Toilets were clean and staff very friendly and professional. Bar busy but not too crammed in.

For me, one of the best bars of Edimburg: nice people, nice place, nice staff! I've been there all days I've been during my trip. It's affordable and quite close to the city center. Really, it was a nice discover!

Went looking for a bite before heading to the nearby theatre. Good pub grub at very reasonable prices. Not a fancy place but if all you want is a seat, food and change in your pocket, you won’t go wrong here. We’ll be back.

We went in to find a good place to watch the Formula 1. There was such a fun vibe, they were showing the F1 and service was great!

The staff through on NFL in the corner room for us, super nice & attentive. One old guy that looked like he drinks every night got angry with us putting on American football, sucks for him because we watched for the next 2 games

Good long standing community pub, nice social atmosphere, though on a recent Saturday night visit it was loud enough for half our group to leave due to the noise levels.

no one at the bar to take my order when i visited recently. the guy was in the kitchen having a conversation with someone and even though he could see me waiting, he chose to continue his conversation with his colleague before serving me. i estimate i waited 7 or 8 minutes before i left and i hope this was a one-off because i've been before and the food and service was perfectly fine although there was different bar staff on then.

Booked a table on the day for 8 ppl for food out of the blue. Table ready when we arrived, we were served by Marco who took our order, made the food and brought it out to us within a very reasonable time. The food was hot and tasty and I would definitely recommend a visit. Well done!

Give it a miss. Folk steal your drinks and the bar staff could not care less or wish to do anything about it. Shocking advert for Edinburgh hospitality.

Fantastic pub, great staff, friendly vibe, can watch the football on a Sunday and also see comedy at the back of the pub during the Edinburgh fringe and there are some really good acts performing.

The cheap pints for students is the draw, the food isn’t too bad no complaints. Went a while ago but didn’t review, I think the prices have slightly increased since my picture but only a little bit
