For me, one of the best bars of Edimburg: nice people, nice place, nice staff! I've been there all days I've been during my trip. It's affordable and quite close to the city center. Really, it was a nice discover!

Pre theatre food. Good food. Prompt service. Flowing drinks. What's not to love. Ivan our 'waiter' was awesome. Looked after us. Would recommend.

Went looking for a bite before heading to the nearby theatre. Good pub grub at very reasonable prices. Not a fancy place but if all you want is a seat, food and change in your pocket, you won’t go wrong here. We’ll be back.

We went in to find a good place to watch the Formula 1. There was such a fun vibe, they were showing the F1 and service was great!

Popped in for a pint on way to final destination and was really impressed with friendly polite staff. Will definitely be back when I'm next in the area.

The staff through on NFL in the corner room for us, super nice & attentive. One old guy that looked like he drinks every night got angry with us putting on American football, sucks for him because we watched for the next 2 games

Good long standing community pub, nice social atmosphere, though on a recent Saturday night visit it was loud enough for half our group to leave due to the noise levels.

no one at the bar to take my order when i visited recently. the guy was in the kitchen having a conversation with someone and even though he could see me waiting, he chose to continue his conversation with his colleague before serving me. i estimate i waited 7 or 8 minutes before i left and i hope this was a one-off because i've been before and the food and service was perfectly fine although there was different bar staff on then.

Served without a word, beer was off sour not a good experience.

Booked a table on the day for 8 ppl for food out of the blue. Table ready when we arrived, we were served by Marco who took our order, made the food and brought it out to us within a very reasonable time. The food was hot and tasty and I would definitely recommend a visit. Well done!

Friendly, and student friendly. I would say more of a local that accepts everyone. Bar staff are knowledgeable and advise on beer options. Large enough to accommodate all. And you can eat here.

Great local bar slightly of beaten track between popular BnBs and tourist spots situated in the Southside. Does great meal deals on their pub grub with specials everyday. All the footy covered as well with your own wee screen if your in a booth. Update as of September 2023, went in last tonight to watch the football and it was wall to wall students, think there has been a change of management, in the past it would have been locals watching the footy.

Went for a pish and ended up getting fingered. Wasn’t great but it wasn’t the worst.

It was ok apart for Sunday we wanted to eat breakfast and watch the ladies football final but you where closed, so we had breakfast and watch the football final in Abby bar in Newington it was very good day.

Good prices, wide range of drinks and service was fast. Only 1 complaint, the smell from the toilets was really bad. Could smell it in certain areas of the bar. Managed to get a seat near the door which was better.

Fantastic pub, great staff, friendly vibe, can watch the football on a Sunday and also see comedy at the back of the pub during the Edinburgh fringe and there are some really good acts performing.

Popped up hill needed a drink and a pee seen someone eating a meatball baget and it looked good so ordered one it was lovely and tasty then had some more beer

Decent enough bar with a wide selection of drinks including real ale. Food was popular too. Be warned I used the app for table service but the machine that prints the orders to the bar was not working so I had to chase up my order, which kind of defeats the whole objective of the app.

Visiting from Australia we wanted to experience a authentic Scottish pub with typical Scottish food . We found The Southsider clean , the staff friendly & obliging , and there was a good variety of things on the menu . I enjoyed my Chicken , Ham & Leek pie , but found the accompanying vegies a bit dry .

The cook also took our order and was so friendly & kind. The food was hot, fresh and very tasty. We happened to run across this pub on our wanderings to the Surgeons museum & couldn't be happier.

Was in on sunday Staff were ok But ivan collecting the glasses Piling them 3-4 feet high Very dangerous and surely against health& safety. This needs to be stopped before someone is hurt

Seems to have turned into a student pub. The noise from them was very loud. A friend decided not to stay as it was too loud. And every seat was taken up by a student. Later the bar staff put music on so loud it was impossible to talk and be heard. Place was entirely full of english middle class students, many looked too young to be drinking. One girl looked about 15. Like many pubs in edinburgh these days, there was no toilet roll. I'll give that place a miss next time. Too loud and no seats if you wanna eat. Didnt realise it had turned into a student pub.

I have visited the Southsider many times and absolutely loved my experience there. Starting from the exceptional customer service, affordable prices and cosy atmosphere. Especially, I want to mention friendly staff members that always are open to chatting. I always look forward to my visit as Michele has made my experience wonderful! Not only is he a professional individual but he makes me feel so comfortable during the visit and we always have a laugh, which I feel is top-tier customer service! Thank you so much and looking forward to coming more for a couple (or more) drinks :))

Me and my boyfriend have been coming here since some of the other pubs around here have been getting a little silly expensive. Didn't expect to find such a cozy pub with a great atmosphere. Fantastic fair prices and friendly staff

Food and service was very poor. Pub had been recommended to me as they had eaten there previously. We both orders the chicken bacon melt. It took a long time to arrive and when it did looked totally unappetising. We were given cutlery no napkin. We're never offered any condiments and there was no salt and pepper on the table. We ate what we could but the food was bland and unappealing. Staff looked fed up and as if they didn't want to be there. Very disappointing.

Tried the Southsider Pub in Edinburgh. Been before so I already know its a nice place. So I go up for my drink and the lad (Sam, his name was) pours me an excellent pint of Guinness. I tried the Wings with the Carolina Reaper and Black Garlic Hot Sauce, and to be fair it absolutely blew my socks off. They really tickled my tastebuds in a way they have never been tickled before. To be fair it was nice. The chicken was nice, the sauce nice, the mac n cheese very good, and the cauliflower and cheese was good. So all well that ends well. Would very much recommend this place. Sam was an excellent host and I will certainly be back again.

Was in Edinburgh last week, Southsider had a really nice atmosphere and decent drink selection (anywhere that has Erdinger Blue is fine with me since I'm aff it). I think the guy who served me is called Sam - dead friendly and chatty, which (no offence) you don't get everywhere in Edinburgh. Would go back!

Great wee pub, apart from the fact its riddled with students. Guy called tom or thomas forgot his name is a class act, would recommend for sure.

Went here for lunch with some friends of ours. It was near our hotel, and they had cheap lunch. We had burgers with chips and beer for under 10 GBP. The day before one of my friends had a burger that wasn't any better for 17 GBP without the drink. Not the best burger ever, but great to the price.

The member of the bar staff- Chloe I think her name was- she was brilliant yesterday! Great service, great energy, great pint. The soul of the southsider! 10/10 would come back (to see her again hopefully, what a stunning girl)

I like this pub which has a good local feel. Beware they are charging £6.00 for an IPA which is surprising as this is normally a good priced pub. The price of this beer should advertised on the front to let people know before they buy it

What a cracking pub in Edinburgh. The team are always so welcoming and friendly. There’s a bank of regulars that always in make the atmosphere buzz in the pub. The food is great and very reasonably priced. There’s always sport on the TVs which is great and the back room is great for booking and recently had a make over with a fantastic mural of the Edinburgh skyline.
