Stopped by here on the way home. The place was empty but the kids corner was a bonus for us and kept our 3 yr old son happy! Menu doesn't have much choice but the food was delicious! We had chicken burger and an old Smokey burger. No complaints! Staff and punters were friendly an we will definitely be back again. I dont know why there wasn't more publicity about this place as it defo needs it. Come here if u like no no fuss good pub grub and a place for the kids to play.

The food eventually arrived we all cut the burgers in half only to fined that they were raw in the middle. Sent them back and the waiter asked if we wanted them cooked again or them taken of the bill. Which we answered that we wanted a total new one. The waiter also let it slip that the chef had forgotten to take chicken out of the freezer. Second time I've been don't think I'll be back

When they came they took our drink order and then we waited another 5-10 mins for someone to take our order.when they came to take our order we started to tell her then she left as she forgot her pad. We waited a long time for the food to come but all the woman said was everyone has come in at the same time but all the people I counted was 20 people in the time we were there. Decided to give this place a go for dinner last night but it was a big mistake. First impressions not good, litter outside the front door along with a paper cup of leftover coffee with lots of cigarette ends in it. Not very appealing! When we got into the place we were seated at a back table. It absolutely stank of what can be described as spew and cheap bleach! Ordered chicken Caesar salad to start and macaroni for main. Chicken salad was bland, vegetables were definitely not fresh and the croutons were very stale. For these reasons I did not even touch the chicken... Who knows how long it had been sitting in that kitchen for! Macaroni was average, wasn't very cheesy and the pasta had been boiled for far too long. Served with old un-fresh salad and a really dry piece of bread which was meant to be garlic bread. My mum said her fish and chips were nice though. For dessert I had lemon drizzle cake. This was also average, you could tell it had been sitting out for a few days, it was so so dry! Ice cream was nice and creamy though but I'm guessing I enjoyed it because it had not been hand made by the chef here!! Overall the place is in need of a good renovation, quite old, shabby and smelly! Had the food been good I would have overlooked this and quite probably may have returned. Waiting staff were are really attentive and nice, but the place would look more professional if the staff all wore a uniform perhaps, rather than just jeans, trainers etc.

Purchased a discount voucher from 5pm.com for a recent visit to Edinburgh. Emailed The Telford Arms to arrange a date to use the voucher and they replied and it was booked. On arrival our booking had not been put in the book. We were told by the waitress after she spoke to the chef if we wanted the Christmas dinner which we had booked we would need to order straight away. 2 of us ordered the lentil soup and 2 ordered the pate. Asked what came with the pate and did they serve chutney to go along with it. Soup arrived and it was tasteless, honestly never had a lentil soup which has no taste. The pate arrived which looked like a turd on the plate and as for chutney I couldn't eat it for laughing as they gave me marmalade. Starters were a disaster.Next 2 beef and 2 Turkey, the beef was tough and unedible, the Turkey was 2 slices of grey Turkey with a slice of white underneath with a terrible stuffing. The potatoes were reheated soggy and burnt. The only thing we could eat of the plate was the vegetables.Pudding was offered and we thought well you can't go wrong here. We were offered Christmas pudding, cheesecake and apple pie. First the apple pie was actually crumble and not only that it was apple and berry. Needless to say we had to ask if it was rhubarb crumble. The cheesecake was one of the worst I have ever eaten. Only bonus was the ice-cream was not to bad.The four of us agreed it was the worst meal we have ever eaten, can't fault the waitress she was attentive and approachable. But very disappointed this was the first place to eat on our 2 day trip and it left a sour taste in our mouths.

I went to the Telford Arms with my wife with a voucher from Living Social worth up to £49.10 and complained, please see below this is what I had sent to them.In the proprietors defence he has offered another dinner and a free bottle of wine but what he cannot understand is after our visit we do not want to go back, who wants to go and eat somewhere after you have complained. My wife and I were not happy with our visit to the Telford Arms. We were told we could choose from the full menu which included the preset Christmas 3 course menu. Being the festive period we choose from the Christmas menu. Both the starters were fine although the portion size was minimal. We choose the pate and the black pudding. We both then ordered the turkey. Again this was a minimal sized portion. The dinner its self was ok. The turkey and the stuffing looked like the sliced variety found in the Deli counter of your local shop. We were give one slice of turkey and one slice of turkey rolled with stuffing. When the waitress came to take our plates away she did mention that it was a small portion and the chef must have made it smaller due to the voucher we had. – How and why would the chef know our method of payment? The potatoes, carrots, parsnips and gravy were lovely. Our pudding were a whole different ball game though. We both wanted to order the cheesecake but where told that there was only 1 portion left so I let my wife have that and I ordered the Fudge Cake. The cheesecake arrived we were unsure as to what kind it was. It was flat and definitely not made from cream cheese. It tasted like a heavy synthetic cream. When the waitress came back she asked if it was ok so we advised her of the cheese cake, she then went on to say that I was going to put my finger in it to see what it was like but I have just done that to the new Cheese Cake we have in the kitchen and laughed. – Even when we were told there was ‘only one slice of cheesecake left’! There was still more in the kitchen! I am very disappointed in my visit and wished we had chosen from the normal menu and never went near the Christmas dinner.

We went for a family meal here on Saturday using fish and chip vouchers. I'm not in the habit of eating battered fish when I'm eating out, but the waitress recommended it. The batter was soft and soggy - when will I ever learn to go with my own instincts. Fortunately I had a starter of Tuscan bean soup which was really good. The staff are brilliant, most accomodating. It is larger than I thought it would be. The rest of our group (4 adults + 2 kiddies) seemed to enjoy it and other than my disappointing fish, I did enjoy the relaxed atmosphere.Price wise, I didn't think it was comparable with other pub meals and a bit pricey for what we had.

Me and my friends were always locals to the telford arms. We were there every saturday without a doubt. However when it came to money the manager only cared about money. He only cares about bringing external customers into his pub for a one off ocassion. Me and my friends were in the telford arms from 1pm and made an ocassion of the biggest event on the football calender and refused to play this on MUTE in the corner of the bar, not disrupting any function that had been booked. The bar manager had no loyalty and only cares about his income which he doesnt realise it comes from me and my friends income. The house white was also very unsatisfactory and over priced, it did not deliver on its promise of hints of juniper and hollyhocks and left an extremely rough taste on the pallet. It also did not acompany the battered haddock well so i had the compromise with a fried egg. The atmosphere was ruined by the contraversial news that we were not allowed to watch the biggest football event of the year due to 'business'. Choose loyalty. Choose fairness. Choose refreshing wine. DO NOT CHOOSE THE TELFORD.

We visited this place with a Groupon voucher for Fish and Chips and were very disappointed. The batter was very greasy/oily and the fish had either been taken from the deep fat fryer and put immediately on to our plates without being drained or else had been cooked when the oil was not hot enough. It was so oily that we had to remove the batter and just eat the fish. We mentioned this to our server when he collected our plates and he told us that he had been told this before on numerous occasions and he felt that the kitchen should invest in a draining basket. I had actually purchased a second voucher as had intended returning with my husband but came home and telephoned Groupon to cancel this as it had been purchased less than 14 days ago.

The meal is well timed, not rushed and very comfortable to sit and chat or drink inbetween courses, the staff are very attentive and friendly, loved the recommmended Sticky Toffee Pudding! Love coming in here, service is always amazing, everythings well priced and I look forward to coming back. thanks for another great meal! Lisa Mackay

The Telford Arms is nothing to write home about when viewed from the outside, but on entering it is like being in the tardis, it is large inside with open roaring fires, just what was needed at lunchtime on cold, dank February day. The welcome that we received from the barman, (who we later learned was the owner George), was warm, friendly and welcoming. We chose the breaded fish and chips, which arrived very promptly, freshly cooked on hot plates. It was obvious that the fish was fresh, it was truly delicious, we could not fault the meal. The Telford was not very busy, but this did not detract from the standard of the meal. It is a pity that the Telford Arms is not nearer to the City Centre as I am sure that if it were then it would be packed, especially given the quality, quantity and standard of service. The next time that we are visiting Edinburgh we will make a point of eating at the Telford: even if it means making an extra effort to travel there. The bar appeared well stocked, next time I will make sure that I am not driving so that I can sample some of the drinks. I cannot recommend this establishment highly enough for value for money.

The Telford is really a local pub we thought; we drive past it several times a week, but we're not really "pub people"...drinking/driving, you know. But a friend gave Bill a voucher for "Fish & Chips at the Telford" - a thank you gift for a job done, so we popped in on chance at teatime and enjoyed the most delightful hospitality - our table at the open warm real fireside. It wasn't busy at the time, but looking round was a warming experience too. And the food was just excellent! It's said they're famous for their Fish 'n' Chips....well we had the most succulent haddock and chips I've had in decades! Although we were just having a modest meal that evening, TheTelford Arms is well high on our list of where to take friends, where we'll go again SOON and what we heartily recommend to local people and visitors. We had the pleasure of Jamie's hositality and a chat with the DJ - but feel sure there's a whole professional staff just waiting to serve you! ENJOY - like we did - Liz and Bill

Another amazing meal at the Telford! I had garlic bread with cheese followed by macaroni and really crispy chips!! Was absolutely delicious! Portion sizes are massive and the prices are fab! George is the friendliest guy ever and couldn't be more helpful for fussy people like me and my friend! Keep up the good work George and the team!

We have visited this bar on many occasions and have always had the fish and chips. It is the best ever, plus they cater for gluten-free allergies. Always served with a smile.

We had always said we would go here for something to eat, when we did we had the battered fish and chips, you get the choice to have it breaded but the batter was lovely and light, the staff are friendly and polite we have been back since and recommend it.

Some of the best fish and chips that I've ever eaten and at a great price. A good selection of drinks and very friendly staff. This was a very pleasant find, just outside of the town centre.

Never have I felt so inclined to come on here and rate anywhere. The place is hidden away, just outside the city centre which is why I am guessing it's so quiet. Not much atmosphere to it, but I have a feeling in a few months it will explode in popularity. The food is genuinely some of the best tasting stuff I've had from Edinburgh and I've just about tried every restaurant and bar worth going to.They have different deals on the different days you go, but I've had the fish and the BBQ burger, both were unreal and sure the deal was 2 for £10 or something similar, which you cannot go wrong with.Good choice of pints as well, as I said, expect it to be quiet but it's only a matter of time before this secret escapes!

The telford arms is a great place for a meal or an event. The staff are so friendly and helpful. The food is always lovely and the prices are great so it's hard to believe how quiet it is sometimes. I'd highly recommend the Telford arms for any occasion. I certainly loved spending my 21st downing the jägerbombs! George and his team are fantastic!

We had the fish and chips which were lovely as always. Would highly recommend the home made burgers as well as we have had them several times! The pub was quite busy tonight which was good to see as the owner is trying very hard to make it successful.

Went to the Telford for dinner with seven friends. Even though it was a weekday evening we were surprised to be almost the only customers there. The young barman was very friendly and helpful although it is questionable whether he should have been left alone by himself to run such a big place as any more people would have been hard for him to manage. The food was good - although it took quite a long time to arrive there was plenty of it and it was very good value. My only niggle would be the dreadful music that was played for the whole evening. Not only was it loud enough to interrupt conversation, but also it was something like 1980s top operatic musicals.

My partner and I bought the voucher for fish and chips, with tea/coffee for £9. Can't really go wrong with that! Booking is relatively easy, ping an email and done. Upon arrival it was quite busy (think 2 large parties were taking place) and we were quickly seated. Gave our voucher and ordered drinks. 1st point - up selling is something that needs improved on. Didn't even get asked if we wanted a starter! Nor a desert at the end. 2nd point - ordering an Irn Bru and lemonade turned into an Irn Bru and a pint of something lager related!! Then got a pint of lemonade with the words 'it was a pint yes?' why not, 3 attempts to get a drink correct would have been soul destroying. 3rd point - organisational skills need improved upon. Our order was sent to the table next to us resulting in me getting battered fish and my partner getting breaded. Not bad for 2x battered being ordered. The only reason it wasn't returned is the breaded looked better than the battered.Nice tartar sauce by the way - plus point. Sadly this'll be a one time only visit.

Me and my fiancé went here on a weekend trip to Edinburgh. To try and save money, I looked around for voucher codes or Groupon like deals online, and found a deal for this place on Amazon Local. It was £9 for two fish and chip meals and tea/coffee, so I was happy with the price.Read some of the reviews on here, mixed but mostly good, so we booked ahead for lunch as that was a requirement of the voucher. When we arrived, we were one of the only people there, it was dead.. We were placed at the corner furthest from the bar, and presented the voucher. The girl who took our order wasn't the friendliest and we felt a bit awkward. When the food arrived, I was expecting amazing things judging by some of the reviews as the Fish and Chips seemed to be their speciality. However we felt it was just average. Great for £4.50 I suppose, but not again.. the fish was the greasiest thing I'v ever had, the entire plate was swimming in oil. We still ate it as it was fine, but not good.I'm glad we went as it was a main meal for both of us on a budget, but we'll not be back unfortunately.

I've driven past this place hundreds of times and decided to give it ago based on the reviews. Inside is very large and spacious and we were placed right beside the fire which was lovely as it was pretty cold outside. Decor in the place is a bit tired and could do with a little sprucing up but its clean nonetheless. Starters were fish cakes and chicken goujons which were ok but the real star was the roast pork meal. It was a very generous portion, lovely fresh vegetables, soft roast pork, roast potatoes were a little overcooked but was a nice roast dinner. Pudding was sticky toffee pudding and chocolate fudge cake again very nice food. We were here on a voucher deal but normal prices were very cheap anyway and will be back to try their normal menu.

We wondered around many other places and decided for this places because of the initial kindness of the waitress when we where passing by and had a question. Went back for lunch and had a great lentil soup, salmon with salad and green juice. We decided to go back the next day, as we wanted something different from the regular pizza, hamburgers and such offered around. It did not disappoint, great place, very small and wonderful views of the castle

Personale gentile e premuroso.

This was my first time here, and It was very good! My only complaints were that the drinks came a while before the food & that the small breakfast egg was quite greasy. The food tasted great though & the presentation was lovely. The tables were cleared efficiently as customers left & it was overall a rather peaceful atmosphere. Would recommend.

Nice little cafe just opposite the cathedral on the royal mile. A tad pricey but a nice little find for a quick coffee and bite to eat whilst exploring.
