Excellent service and choice of food

A bit run down looking through the back conservatory part. Needs a good dust and the curtains could do with a good old wash. 😞 But the food is lovely I was very pleased with the vegetarian curry I ordered, staff are lovely & attentive. Nice bar area away from the dining customers with a log fire very toasty on a cold day.

The staff were lovely we had 7 people everyone got something 10/10 perfect food good portions lovely atmosphere

Unknown about food. Attended a meeting and just had tea. Service and atmosphere good, so presumably the people there weren't first timers

Food was nice enough, but the sauces were served in plastic tubs like you get with a takeaway. Not what you expect in a restaurant. Although there were plenty waiting staff it was difficult to get one to get another drink

This place could be a nice country pub. However, they have crammed in as many tables as possible making the experience very loud with little room to manoeuvre. (Reminds me of a work canteen). The food is very poor quality. Vegetables, including roast potatoes are not fresh but been frozen. The rest of the meal feels the same i.e. Frozen then defrosted and heated up in a microwave. Was there for Xmas dinner 2024. The Turkey was turkey roll (much like Bernard Mathew's turkey slices). The roast potatoes were still frozen in the middle etc. I've had much better Xmas meals in a garden centre, work canteen etc for less than half the price. I would not recommend this place to go for a meal.

I thoroughly enjoyed my first experience of The Steadings, and I would certainly love to go back. There were 5 of us meeting up for wee lunch and catchup. A good selection on the menu. Lovely atmosphere. Very busy, which is always a good sign. The service was very good and the food was excellent. I would certainly recommend it.

Atmosphere all right, but my partner found a hair in her drink, it took them over an hour to bring the food and on top of that, they forgot part of the order. I certainly should have taken a chippy instead

El personal nos dijo que lamentamos no haber reservado mesas en toda la noche. Salimos al coche y reservamos en línea absolutamente ningún problema. Comida absolutamente increíble personal un poco snippy. No había vista diciendo nada de mesas.

Usual pub fare. No gluten free chips, mash or boiled potatoes; tbf these were cooked perfectly and were very tasty. No gf buns, but bread instead. Curry wasn't gf, so watch out for that.

Tuve una maravillosa reunión familiar en la Dirección el viernes 21 de febrero de 2025 para celebrar un cumpleaños especial para mi esposo. Éramos 17 en el conservatorio de arriba. Desde la primera consulta directamente con el gerente Chris no experimentamos nada más que ayuda, sugerencias y un servicio ejemplar. Nada fue un problema para ellos. La comida era excelente, muy bien presentado, caliente y disfrutado por todos. Andrew, el chef / personal de cocina y su personal de camareros también eran excelentes. No puedo agradecer a TODO el personal lo suficiente que todos hicieron de esta una noche memorable. Por lo tanto, no es sorprendente que sigamos yendo allí, como lo hemos hecho en numerosas ocasiones. Liz Currie

La taza y los cubiertos estaban sucios, tuve que pedir a la camarera que lo cambiara. Los macarrones con queso eran insípidos, más como pasta en una salsa blanca, y realmente no podía llamarse salsa, ya que había más pasta que salsa. No volveremos.

I first became aware of the Steading back in 2021 and after so long I finally got the chance to try it today. Marvelous food with a generous selection to choose from, nice atmosphere and friendly staff. The prices are also within the average range so there's not much else I could be asking for. Became a fan and I'm definitely coming back for more at one point. Thank you for the grand service!

Food was lovely. Portions are very big. The club sandwich in particular was braw. Very reasonably priced and quick friendly service.

The food at the Steading is always fabulous. Service is fast and very efficient. However, I would say the only thing lacking is a friendly atmosphere and smile!

The menu has significantly reduced since the change of ownership. Prices have gone up significantly! There used to be a great choice, something for everyone, not anymore. I was a regular visitor but after last visit, won't be back.

Pedí sopa con pan hecho a mano, la sopa era tan salada y el pan debe haber sido hecho a mano hace muchas lunas. Muy decepcionado, no volveré!

Went for Christmas dinner with 10 of us staff about as happy as black sky dour faces food was look warm and service not good no cranberry sauce on table considering a lot of us were having turkey one of the meals had to go back to get reheated prices I thought were far to high for what we received .

Nice place, food OK, service satisfactory, prices reasonable. Would go again and try something different. They had a good separate menu for gluten free which my friend appreciated.

La única mesa disponible estaba en el bar, el personal no era acogedor, nadie sonrió y eran muy gruñones. Tuve que pedir en el bar, aunque el mismo menú como restaurante donde hay personal esperando para tomar el orden. Muy caro para un almuerzo en el bar, es decir, 13 libras. 99 para un sándwich, y definitivamente no es una buena relación calidad-precio.

Nice place. Food was well cooked. The staff could be a little more attentive.

Food not great as the chips and gammon steak were over done. If we're going to have to pay these high prices the food will have to improve. Most of the staff were very good but one (who must have been having a bad day) dumped my can of Guinness on the table which I then had to open and pour myself.

Delicious food and great service. No rushing you along with the meal. Warm welcome. Soup and bread for a lunch was good after a walk on the hills.

We stopped off enroute home, perfectly situated off the bypass. Easy to find, park and access to restaurant. Great service, atmosphere, and food, good portions and fairly priced.

Fui a una comida familiar por mi cumpleaños, fue malo de principio a fin, el personal es gruñón aparte de la chica rubia que no era tan mala aparte de reírse cuando la salsa se me cayó cuando estaban limpiando la mesa, siguieron recibiendo pedidos equivocados de bebidas, consiguieron fajitas pero tuve que esperar 10 minutos antes de que me dieran los envoltorios y luego encontré un pelo en ella. Los precios también son demasiado altos y eso es sin todos los problemas.

Always great service, friendly staff and a decent lunch served here. My g/f are now regular customers on our way home after visiting Costco in Straiton. I always enjoy the food. On the one and only occasion I said a meal wasn’t up to their usual standard, they took it off the bill and said they would ask the chef to improve it! I never asked them to and said it wasn’t necessary. But clearly they take their customer’s feedback seriously. Thanks Steading! We will be back soon!

The steading at ski slope on Biggar road Edinburgh HAS CHANGED HANDS different menu I went in staff not busy about 12 people in got shown to a table waiting for the order to be taken but to no avail so I went up to the bar to see what was happening and this abrupt man said we serve at the bar no signs to tell you that blonde woman at bar more interested in chatting to the 2 men at the bar ABSOLUTELY DISGRACEFUL I DEFINITELY WON'T BE BACK

Been there a lot of times for food and it has always been excellent. Recently I had my late mother’s wake there. I would like to thank Chris and all the the staff for their impeccable handling of the occasion.

Encontramos este restaurante a través de nuestra aplicación de mapa en un jueves a la hora del almuerzo. Estaban muy ocupados así que tuvimos que sentarnos en el bar. Teníamos curry de ternera y fajitas. La comida estaba caliente, pero solo había dos pequeñas tortillas servidas para la fajita plateada cuando 3 - 4 habría sido más adecuado. Había una capa de polvo en la ventana.

Bueno, he encontrado mi lugar favorito para comer! Mi familia se unió a la familia de amigos de mi esposa y tuvo un almuerzo tremendo. Enormes porciones y sabroso como! Esos haggis vegetales en masa eran increíbles y el pastel de manzana era perfecto. Definitivamente volveré. Un pequeño paseo por Pentlands después para trabajar algunas de las calorías completadas en una gran tarde.

They got us a table even though we had not booked so delighted with everything

We went for a family meal, to celebrate my wife's birthday. The staff were quite friendly and the venue has a nice ambience. The food was tasty and delivered fairly quickly. The Steading isn't far from the house and has free parking, which is a big bonus these days. I would happily return again soon.

Fantastic place and excellent food, very busy with the older generation at lunchtime so it's advisable to get in early or book.

The Steading is very clean with friendly staff. There is quite a variety of food on the menu. Everything I have ever eaten in the Steading has been first class.

I went here for lunch with my family food was disgusting service was ok management no where to be seen and didn’t care about my opinion deffo don’t advise ppl to go her as it is a run down place that needs shut down not worth money or time in going

Booked last minute as met family on the long road home. Food was fantastic had Nachos to share and they were homemade,and delicious. Mains were lovely too. Been away in Yorkshire and this was by far the best pub grub all week. Very dig friendly too.

Absolutely perfect pub service and atmosphere

Not been here for a while so popped in for an early dinner. Hadn’t booked a table which wasn’t a problem as the place was very quiet. We had a table in the bar and a nice waiter brought us the menus and took our order. We ordered one portion of Tempura Prawns, then one Steak Pie with Vegetables and one Rump Steak with chunky chips. Unfortunately the food was ok but nothing special , waitress a bit sad looking all the time with no interaction so perhaps having a bad night.

Not changed since I was a boy! That's a good thing BTW.

Been a few years ago and was great, however this time very disappointed with the food. The only good thing were the Nachos, but even then the dips were very frugal. Philly Steak sandwich was poor and very average chips & coleslaw. Roast beef ok but potatoes uneaible. Service was efficient, but neglected to notice not much was eaten. Won't be returning.

I ordered lovely sopup of the day.But apple and blackberry crumble was shockingly bad.I ate two spoons and waited for server to ask if everything is alright,but he didn't.I asked for a bill and he had opportunity to ask,but again no,then I went to pay and even then was not asked was everything o.k?If someone asked I would have explain that crumble was just literally golden syrup porridge on top of apples with blackberry jam and covered with custard.No,not the crumble from oats.But porridge...Sad...

Matalan Straiton store, wished to celebrate the 10yr Anniversary, but also enjoy time with colleagues, that most of the time are too busy. 🤣 It was welcoming and very relaxed, although 15 out of 20 could make it, it never changed anything, and we didn't have any deposit to worry about. Most people stuck to Mains and very varied but all substantial and very tasty, and cooked with great standards. The Chef John, also made a personal appearance and everyone was able to thank him, but we still thought we should pass on gratitude and highly recommend the establishment with 5☆☆☆☆☆.

Very disappointed with the fish and chips , we were here a few months ago and it was much better. Small piece of tasteless fish in soggy batter, undercooked hard peas and dry chips.

Went for lunch on Sunday. The Specials had roast Lamb which I took. Awful - reheated lamb, which was tough and I couldn’t eat and had to ask for mint sauce - the didn’t stock it. Frozen peas sweetcorn and roasters grand but frozen carrots! So nothing fresh at all. I should have been alerted by the price £16.99 as lamb is very expensive. My son had gammon steak which was freshly cooked with chips and looked exsceptionally good.

Cosy wee pub. Me and a friend nestled in to a comfy sofa for a post-walk drink after being in the Pentlands. Simple place with all you'd expect of an inn.

Popped in for lunch today and as per usual the steading was brilliant the staff always helpful and cheerful always willing to stop and pass the time off day and as per usual the food was fantastic dont listen to the negative posts the steading has been brilliant for years and never let's us down

Had very tasty fish and chips, batter slightly soft. Partner had fish cakes with a l@zy salad; massive chunks of cucumber and onion in a respectable sauce. It's not high cuisine, but it never could never be for the price. It's tasty, dependable food where you can usually walk in without a reservation if you fancy not cooking. Service was pleasant and reliable. Toilets need refreshing or cleaning more, they would be OK for the Mortonhall Campsite continentals visiting from Germany and the Netherlands but as a British person I wasn't impressed (but that might just be me). Anyway: recommended

10 adults and 3 children had a farewell family meal here this evening. Absolutely fantastic meal. Huge portions, fast service, delicious starters, mains and desserts. Everything spot on thank you

Have visited this Restaurant many times over the years and always been very satisfied with the food and service, we visited again today to celebrate my parents Diamond Wedding Anniversary. As always the food was delicious and on the whole the service by mainly young waiting staff was polite and very pleasant. However, on being queried about one of his actions, one young man’s attitude turned totally to the point of being abrupt and very short on manners. This obviously soured the occasion somewhat and I can only hope that after this was reported when the bill was paid, that words are had with the person concerned. If you cannot handle light criticism then you are employed in the wrong job!

I was there for a funeral, the staff were very respectful and polite. There was an array of different sandwiches, shortbread, tea and coffee. All in all was a very sombre time for us, but the food and drink at least made us feel a bit better. Hopefully we will return for a meal (under better circumstances) then I will update accordingly.

Took our friends from Germany as had been before. The beef lasagne was dried up and had no taste and the fish was full of bones. I would have put it back but did not want to make a scene for my guests. I would not take anyone there again. I was embarrassed I took them and only hope theirs was OK as they are too polite to say.

This is my second time here. Ordered 2 breakfasts with a roll each and a bowl of chips to share. Food is great and the coffee is very good. Good service. Recommended.

We ordered the tomato soup, mac and cheese, a side of chips, and two beers. The establishment has a number of local beers but the selection could be a bit expanded. The food was generally underseasoned and this is the third restaurant in three days that the food requires salt. I wonder if it's a matter of local taste. Anyways, it was a quick fix to add a bit of salt. The staff are friendly and the service is fast.

We go to the Steading fairly regularly as a couple, and the food and service is always excellent. On Thursday evening we came along for tea with a friend, who was visiting from England and an elderly relative. Everyone thought the food was amazing and my elderly aunt had the special, which was salmon with vegetables and potatoes. She said it was one of the best meals she'd ever eaten.....and she's almost 87!
