Buena comida.

A great bargain on the Royal Mile! On the backside of the cathedral, this is a great place for a coffee and scone. Lots of seating inside and a few outside makes this a perfect place to catch your breath and enjoy a few minutes peace.

We stopped here for a quick lunch. Very hot and steamy inside, not good for people with glasses. We both had tomato soup, which was fairly tasty and I had a particularly uninspired and uninspiring toasted sandwich with a narrow strip of bacon and brie in a dry, cold, floury roll. A bit disappointed considering the prices and probably would not return.

After touring the cathedral, my wife, our granddaughter, and I decided to drop by the cafe for lunch. There we found a simple cafeteria-type line with a couple of hot entrees, and a made-to-order sandwich shop that had limited, but good choices. There were lots of people eating there, which was a good sign, so we each chose our food and had a nice, enjoyable lunch. Ordered a black pudding roll last time, black pudding was crispy on the outer parts and only moist in the very middle, had to smother it with ketchup to make it edible, although the roll was nice served warm. We (three couples on a private excursion from a cruise port call) and our guide were searching the Royal Mile in rain and wind for a quick lunch break--and happily decided on the St. Giles' Cathedral Cafe! The Cathedral was on our itinerary anyway--so it was doubly convenient. It's cafeteria style--but small with friendly staff--and not at all commercial-feeling. All the food was on display and immediately available--so it saved a lot of time. We simply had to carry our tray to a nearby table and enjoy. (Due to the weather, we ate inside the crypt area, which was very cosy and convenient--and also near the lovely clean rest rooms.) Others here have described the menus--but I'd like to add that as a total vegan, I was thrilled to be able to get a huge, delicious baked potato and salad. I highly recommend it, especially want to tour the Cathedral (or avoid busy crowded restaurants along the Royal Mile with slow service).

We stopped by here after visiting the Cathedral, and went for two old-fashioned options from the menu - "stovies" and lentil soup. The cafe is in a vaulted room, but we settled for chairs in the sun (yes, sun in Edinburgh in April!) close to John Knox's grave, under the red car at the time we were there, much to the bewilderment of the Kentucky couple at the next table. As Cathedral cafes go, this is one of the best - a good choice of food, served up by friendly staff. And it can hardly be more convenient for the Royal Mile

Needed some quick lunch on a Sunday and the food was very tasty and hit the spot - a hidden gem and the staff were very helpful - highly recommended in an area of more touristy eateries

I visited the cafe with my husband and three children during a morning in Edinburgh. The lady serving was pleasant enough, although seemed to have no idea what food was available. Myself, husband and two sons ordered stovies, whilst my daughter ordered a filled roll. We were advised after the order was placed that rolls weren't available as someone hadn't ordered the bread delivery. She then ordered a quiche with salad. When the stovies arrived they were barely lukewarm so I asked for them to be heated up. The woman was very huffy about it, no apology, no attempt to check the holding temperature of the remaining stovies. My daughter described her quiche as 'OK' and the boys wouldn't touch the stovies, preferring to eat the rolls. For just under £40 this was poor value, with awful customer service and cold food. Will not be returning and cannot recommend.

The cafe provided the average fare of most Cathedral cafes. It was not the best decorated but what great staff. They made the visit for us. Also they were most helpful to a senior, listening carefully, putting his meal together, then helping him and meal to the table. There was a nice choice of food and the cakes were very tasty. Again if you want a rest away from.the hustle and bustle then drop in

Personale gentile e premuroso.

Pretty standard fair for a Costa but the queues inside can take a while to get moving. If you're short of time, make sure to go through the drive thru instead as that moves at double the speed of inside

We wondered around many other places and decided for this places because of the initial kindness of the waitress when we where passing by and had a question. Went back for lunch and had a great lentil soup, salmon with salad and green juice. We decided to go back the next day, as we wanted something different from the regular pizza, hamburgers and such offered around. It did not disappoint, great place, very small and wonderful views of the castle

This was my first time here, and It was very good! My only complaints were that the drinks came a while before the food & that the small breakfast egg was quite greasy. The food tasted great though & the presentation was lovely. The tables were cleared efficiently as customers left & it was overall a rather peaceful atmosphere. Would recommend.
