Had a fantastic evening, really welcoming and all the staff were amazing. Live music was on and this was excellent, really great atmosphere and will be back.

Had a family get together for my nieces birthday- the food and service was excellent- everyone’s food was delicious and hot- will definitely recommend this family friendly restaurant to everyone.

We're on holiday and it was our first visit. The atmosphere was great Food and was delicious Assistant manager Ross served us. He was chatty, funny and professional. He even got me to do karaoke for the first time! He listened to my story afterwards for which I'll be forever grateful x Thank you

Great selection of food with some special deals and daily specials. The food is delicious and arrived really quick. Staff are really friendly too. The decor is superb and comfortable seating.

Not lots of people when we went but what a great pub! Diverse menu, lots of different beers on tap. The staff were great.

We had our wedding reception here and it was excellent. In the run up to the event, the assistant manager, manager and chef did everything they could to make it as easy for us as possible. We were able to choose our menu from the available options and swap out veg etc if needed. On the day, we were able to drop off a cake, seating plan and decorations before they opened and they set it up for us. The food was fantastic. Everything came out hot and ready at the same time. The portion sizes were huge and everyone was complimenting the food. They even cut the cake and put it into boxes that we provided. Saved that wee bit of stress! Overall, it was a great experience and I would recommend using them for events (and certainly would again!). And thank you to the Scottish Engineer staff for making our day so special.

In for a birthday gathering. Food is generally good but kitchen closed at 8pm on Sat night, so Iittle disappointed. DJ and karaoke made for a good, fun night.

So 1-7-24 I have family visiting from England, we chose to go to the Scottish engineer for food, as we had been there in the past and the food was lovely so we decided to go back, food and drinks we had were all good, however my son in law went to use the toilet when he got there, there was no toilet roll can you imagine how embarrassing that is for a man? He then went to ask for some and had to ask a young lass that was waitressing to be embarrassed yet again! Don’t staff check the toilets on a regular basis? I find this totally unacceptable.

My sister's went here for lunch and enjoying the food. It was relatively early and quiet at the time.

The atmosphere in here is good, we went in and it was quiet, but what do you expect for a Tuesday evening, the food arrived in a good time, we had the lentil soup, haggis balls, and Mac and cheese. The food was good, and the service was great. I will be again in the future, I rate this place a solid 8.5/10. Good for dates ,mate dates and family events.

Had a funeral tea here last week and it was amazing and so where the staff. Highly recommend the tea.

Average pub grub. I visited with my family we hadn't planned to go here but whilst driving through decided to give it a try. The staff were very friendly and were seated straight away. Restaurant was clean, tidy and well presented. The menu had a good selection. The food was average. A good portion size. My wife had the chicken caesar salad which was a good size portion and well presented. I had my favorite Haggis Neeps and tatties. (unfortunately i would recommend if you have never had haggis and want to try it for the first time please DONT try it here. The quality wasn't great and it was very salty.) I love haggis and unfortunately this was not a nice one. I wish i had got the Aberdeen angus beef burger that did look really good. Overall i would go back for a meal again but i wouldn't be rushing and making a special trip. Handy if i was hungry and passing by.

Okay not brilliant but also not rubbish middle of the road pub grub

They brought out the sub par food in stages so we had to wait on our last diners food to arrive. The Waitress was out on the patio drinking and never bothered to check back with the table once. Don’t come here, there’s so many better options.

Thanks to the owners for replying to mu review We did not have the wrong venue as we were sitting outside in the car park I'm sure you can back date it on your cctv and see us. We were there. However I am really glad you have updated Google to reflect your correct hours. It's better to keep customers better informed with the correct details. We definitely will be around to give the venue a fair chance. Thanks so much We sadly were not able to get in. Google says venue opens at 7am. We were there for breakfast but they were not opened. Tried calling and no answer. Hopefully we could try it one day but our experience was not good.

Great pub in western Edinburgh with a good food menu. Excellent service and range of TV's for sport.

My son, his dog and myself had a lovely lunch here on Saturday. It was delicious and the service was superb. It was a shame it wasn't busier as there wasn't much of a buzz. I can totally recommend it and will be back.

The chargrilled burger is rubbish I would not get it. It came burnt on the outside and it was pink on the inside.

Had a lunch here and the food was delicious! Great menus. Service first class no pressure to eat and go! Nice relaxed atmosphere. Will definitely be back again from Livingston.

Unfortunately, this restaurant is not able to cater for anywhere near the amount of tables and people it holds. We arrived on a Friday night at half 6pm, there was a table of 18people and otherwise the restaurant was dead. We were advised we would have to wait 40minutes before we could order any food as the chef was wiped off his feet to serve this table... To put in perspective, the restaurant holds around 100people in total. We were disappointed the kitchen staff were not allowing food orders for 40minutes while they catered for less than 20% full capacity. Can't fault front of house staff as they were just as shocked and disappointed we were when the chef refused to make an extra portion of chip to tidy us over unti we could order. Nice establishment, chef has wee man syndrome unfortunately so won't be back til there is a new chef that is competent.

Called in by chance on the last day of our visit to Edinburgh. We weren't disappointed. Lovely food, friendly staff and pleasant atmosphere. A brilliant find!

The food was cold and tasteless. Food was passed over a banister instead of bringing the food directly to our table. Lazy or what!

Four of us in for lunch today. Really nicely decorated and spacious pub. Excellent choice of food and easy going prices. Lovely staff, delicious eats, really enjoyed our lazy long lunch. Bring the kids along for a nice change from McDonalds - dogs welcome too. Come and see all the artefacts and story boards on the walls about the Scottish Engineers that changed the world. Oh and don't forget to look above the bar and see the wee train that runs along the line - great fun. First time in - we'll be back!

Excellent service, food/drink and environment for the price. Would definitely recommend for food, drinks or a night out.

So disappointing....music way too loud but maybe that was an attempt to cover up the loud group shouting and swearing at a table near the front of the pub...no attempt was made by staff to ask them to quieten down...the music was just turned up full blast instead....we were out for a meal ...myself and my daughter and we couldn't even have a conversation as we couldn't hear each other. The food was mediocre at best nothing special....in fact it took 45 minutes from ordering for us to receive our food and the chips weren't cooked properly....the only good thing I have to say about this establishment is the bar staff..really polite and lovely. A rowdy pub best avoided if you expect to be able to have a conversation while you are in there...not for me ....a bit rough to be honest.

Everything was good, but I don't recommend the desserts. Recommend the mushrooms and hunters chicken w/ bbq on the side.

Visit the restaurant for my daughters 21st celebration, but the food wasn't too good, unfortunately, the Steak Fajitas were tasteless, dry and a bit gritty!! with a lack of seasoning, the sizzling vegetables were a few strands of pepper mixed with the meat, BBQ Ribs and Chicken Wings, the menu says Full rack of ribs, well you will be for a surprise as my share was only 3 ribs, and the BBQ sauce again wasn't too tasty, at least the Traditional Fish & Chips was OK, the restaurant was a bit busy, but the waiting staff was great, always looking after you and asking if it was anything else we need, the night was saved by the two ladies that were serving. Back to the pub, a better experience, the food was nice and tasty, but the staff still need to shape up, a bit more attention to the customers, maybe too relaxed cause they were busy. But in all a more positive experience.

It was excellent service. Thoroughly enjoyed a small portion of scampi and the salted caramel cheesecake was scrumptious.

Amazing food, staff and atmosphere.

This is a great local pub especially if you don’t fancy travelling up the town. If you want somewhere reasonably priced, on your door step that does good pub grub then a visit here is value for money. We have been coming here the last 2 months and will continue to do so. The staff are fantastic! Leigh, Eric, Connor and the rest of the team create a place you feel welcome and remembered. The food is a reminder of good pub grub with value for money, especially if Eric is on as he really does care and we have not been let down. 🙌 The premises are always clean especially the toilets 🤩 A good selection of alcoholic drinks, Guinness always goes down well, as does the wine. The cocktails are very good and made to order not pre packed which is amazing for a local pub. We go during the day and have not been in at weekends at night but will try it soon. Extremely dog friendly and Kali is treated like a loyal customer and spoiled 🐾

Beautiful lunch very reasonable.

We met our old neighbours for an anniversary lunch. One of our neighbours is wheelchair bound and has difficulty with communicating. The staff were welcoming and understanding. After ordering drinks,food was ordered and delivered promptly. The quality and quantity were excellent. Thanks to the staff for their attention. I look forward to our next visit.

Was really looking forward to catching up with friends. Staff lovely but OMG thought I was in a kids playground. Kids running riot, screaming, shouting and out of control! What should have been a nice night with friends was awful! Won’t be back!

Wife and the baby and I stopped by and had a wonderful experience. They even started the miniature train behind the bar just for the little guy to marvel at.

Best fish and chips I have ever had. The chef says it's fresh fish bought in every morning and cooked perfectly The light crispy batter and fish is not over cooked it's done perfectly. It melts in the mouth 😋 yummy.

Someone from England a heck of a lot of haggis on the paired down menu but as the new Scottish so called lockdown started 9th October we had a lovely Friday afternoon the food was ok but service fab. So glad we live in sleepy Gloucestershire as the lockdown started at 6pm. Hoping to visit our aged relatives at Xmas so hope this is open. Please not so much haggis.

A place I visited while waiting for my son. It was Monday nights so quiet, the staff were very attentive and remembered me when I returned a few times. Food, good menu not overly large but a really good selection and a mixture of old favourites and new ideas. Pitions are really good. The chicken and chorizo is wonderful and filling ,lovely haggis lasagna. There's a Scottish tapas selection, yup ,and really good choice. The chief came out and chatted to me, maybe because it was quiet , a lovely guy.

Not very busy but service etc was really good

I recently had the pleasure of dining at The Scottish Engineer. I was impressed by the friendly and welcoming staff. They were attentive and helpful, and they made sure that we had a great experience. The food was also delicious. I started with the haggis bon bons, which were perfectly cooked and flavorful. The haggis was rich and savory, and the coating was crispy and delicious. The nachos were also a hit, with plenty of cheese and toppings.  The mushrooms (from the tapas part of the menu) were cooked well, but they weren't our cup of tea to be honest. For my main course, I had the Aberdeen Angus cheeseburger, which was cooked to perfection, juicy and flavorful.  The bun was soft and fluffy, and the toppings were fresh and delicious. The macaroni and cheese was also a hit, with a creamy and flavorful sauce and plenty of cheese. The chips were crispy and delicious, and the onion rings were a nice addition. The rectangle Slate plates are a really nice touch to the experience too. Overall, we had a wonderful experience at The Scottish Engineer. The food was delicious, the service was excellent, and the atmosphere was warm and inviting. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a great dining experience in Edinburgh. Here are some specific details about my experience: • The staff was friendly and welcoming. They made sure that we had everything we needed and that we were enjoying our meal. • The food was delicious. We had a dinner show with a Scottish flair. Servers were very friendly and responsive. The dining areas were clean and well-kept. Our tabled ordered Craigellachie Smoked Salmon, Cock-A-Leekie soups, and the Topside of Scottish Beef. Everything was delicious but the portions were small. For dessert, we all had Cranachan (honey, whiskey, raspberries and oats cream). The shows entertainment was pleasant.

Great meal. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

Bar Staff very helpfull and freindly. Food mingin. French fries buried under a sugary sweet tomato? Sauce. Under a lump of chicken breast. Chicken was unremarkable. The Chorizo sausages, I think they were the orange brown bits in the sauce. Total waste of money.

What an amazing warm and welcoming place, meet a lovely young lady called Leigh who served us a fantastic and very tasty meal. Opted for the engineer burger this time .. burger was dry, bun wasn't toasted enough . Hardly any haggis ontop of the burger . Not keen on it being presented on a slate either .other guests were happy with there food .

Visited with my mother to have lunch (having a break from visiting someone at the Western General Hospital- which we told the person who received us) and was told on arrival it’d be minimum 45mins to get food. I glanced around a corner because we were told it had suddenly got busy but it didn’t sound busy. It wasn’t busy! Essentially didn’t seem to want our custom or was completely unable to cope with a few tables. Bizzare but definitely won’t be back.

Was there today with family, very disappointing!!! It was freezing inside...3 of us ate lunch with our coats on!!!! Bloody ridiculous. Then i was served under cooked fish,when I brought it to his attention the server just grunted, no offer of replacement just kept checking it in front of me lol. Awful service, only decent thing was desert but very overpriced for what it was. Definitely don't recommend.

Food was lovely and service was great. Pub was a bit cold the day we were in.

Apparently this establishment caters to a lunch crowd. We were there after the rush and the selections were limited. What was left was no longer fresh and dried out.

So the ownership group knows.. my wife and I attended a Gateone private event.. over 50 people arrived. We took our seats, watched the great entertainment..we were served cold soup.. waited 15 minutes for a beer.. and waited 45 minutes for the meal. After all other guests were served their meals-our table was accidentally overlooked and not served the main meal. Waiting 20 minutes from the meal at next table was served- I went to inform the staff that our table had not received the main course. A staff person told me that the kitchen was already cleaned up. I then asked our Gateone host to follow up..five minutes later a different waitress came to our table and told us that they only had beef left… so much for the recommendation and fish order. Interesting enough as the waitress was apologizing for not having fish.. a member of the entertainment group approached our table and told us to stop talking to the waitress during the show. FYI, Our table had order a second round of drinks that still had not arrived yet the waitress was offering the table a round of “free” drinks to make up for not having fish. I explained that I was still waiting on my second drink that came with the meal. By the way the second beer never arrived. What did arrive is plate of cold tough uncuttable beef, cold peas, frozen mash potatoes and for dessert a glass of whipped cream. Diving through the whip cream the table hunted for any sign or speck of oats, honey, and whiskey that typically make up the Cranachan… one raspberry was on top of the whipped cream so it was present. In short the lack of customer service and poor meal/taste and preparation.. negatively impacted the over all enjoyment of the evening. The dancers, bagpipes, and singing certainly made the trip worth attending.. so if you go for the Total Experience hopefully its better than what our group received.
