At first glance, we thought this would be just a basic breakfast buffet, however it is supplemented nicely with various menu items. Food was fine, and I might have given three stars, except that our server Nick made me the most incredible cappuccino with almond milk. He also had good suggestions for what to order. Truly exceptional service and I am bumping it up to four stars. Excellent almond milk cappuccino. Thank you Nick!

Much nicer than the standard full English buffet. You can get that if you wish, or get waffles, kippers, smoked salmon, bacon&egg rolls, etc. There was a nice cheese, fruits and meat selection, and light and flaky pastries. The omelet was cooked in a skillet, with cheese and tomatoes then added, and cooked through (without flipping). It was brown underneath and a bit rubbery.

If I could give zero stars I would. This place is a disaster. We waited 30 minutes for a table. We couldn’t figure out why no one was leaving…and now we know….there is NO SERVICE HERE!!!!!!!! Zero. Nada. We’re leaving. Forfeiting the upfront payment £14 per person. The people next to us ordered one roll and 45 minutes later it still had not arrived! Never again.

My partner and I visited the restaurant for a three course meal, late November. The place is very attractive and the atmosphere was relaxed and welcoming. I had the tempura king prawns for a starter, partner had Hirata buns, Asian slaw with soya glazed chicken - both delicious. The mains were grilled Scotch cheese burger with usual the accompaniments, parter enjoyed everything. I went for the roast chicken breast, chorizo, pan fried gnocchi, rocket, red wine jus - was excellent, chicken was very tender. Desserts were the warm frangipane raspberry tart with delicious poached plum and vanilla mousse, toasted coconut and pineapple salsa. Both very nice, the frangipane and plum compote being the winner. It seemed somewhat busy for a Monday evening and there was only one server on for all the guests. But service was excellent and timely, the server Jimmie was superb, very helpful, friendly and professional - a credit to the business. Compliments to the chefs, food was very lovely. ❤️ Bill was £56 and change for two 3 course meals and two soft drinks. Excellent value, especially for Edinburgh City centre. Would definitely recommend and would return to try more of the menu.

We had our work night out here last night and it was okay. There were 13 of us and we were seated at split tables which we decided to push together as we were together. We asked for water but were not asked if it was still or sparking so we got carafes of tap water which wasn't good. The starters were served quite quickly as were the drinks.I opted for the Asian spring rolls which were very nice indeed as were the calamari rings..cooked very well, not rubber band like, thank goodness! I followed that with pan fried chicken served with risotto which was also very tasty. After the main course the service got a bit slow though which was a shame. As I'm not one for dessert I had the vanilla ice cream with chocolate sauce, simple but nice. The decor is very modern with bizarre office type metal desk lamps.Reminded me a bit of IKEA. The air conditioning is above the seating which blew out very cold air and one of us sat with her scarf on.When she told a staff member he turned it up which then became too warm to sit comfortably..there didn't seem to be a middle ground. Can't have it all I suppose. All in all the evening was fine. The staff are very nice and friendly and the food is good but it just isn't a place I would visit again.

We booked a table through 5pm for a visit to the Edinburgh Tattoo. The offer was 3 courses & wine for £40, a fantastic offer for Edinburgh. The visit started well, we were taken care of fantastically by a waiter who's name I didn't catch.. (tall chap with glasses)He was welcoming, very efficient and spent time to chat and make us feel comfortable even though he was busy. The food is great value for money, the haggis Bon bons & chicken fillet burger were delicious, the tagliatelle was also fresh and tasty.By the time dessert arrived the restaurant was very busy and the few staff were stretched way too thin. A different waiter hastily gave us the wrong dessert but was away so quick we couldn't even tell him. There were not enough staff, the waiters on service were practically running to keep up. We couldn't get anyone's attention so ate dessert I would never choose nor did I enjoy. We managed to get the bill and politely explained the error. Again the waiter dealt with it perfectly.Unfortunately, as the bill was passed to us we noticed that we weren't given the 5pm offer price, the charge was £5.50 more than advertised.Again the staff were running all over the restaurant and had a show to catch so we just left a smaller tip than normal. This could have been a fantastic experience, just let down by overstretched resources who are frantically trying to keep things afloat. A real shame.

We booked a table through 5pm.com and selected the wine and dine option that offers three course and a bottle of wine to share for two people. Super value. We arrived promptly for our 5:30 reservation and were greeted by I assume the duty manager as he wore a jacket. Table sorted we were offered menus and a jug of tap water was delivered. Great start. The choices for each course we're more than sufficient for even the pickiest of eaters. We went for soup of the day, haggis balls, fish and chips X 2 and a bottle of the house white, an Italian varietal that was very pleasant. The waiter was very enthusiastic and welcoming and we settled in nicely. The restaurant began to fill and we were joined by couples on both sides. Our starters were delivered promptly and were hot and tasty. The mains are delivered just a few minutes after our starter plates were cleared and the fish was resplendent in a crispy light beer batter, just as described, with chips, peas and tartar sauce. Delicious. Again, plates were cleared and we were offered menus to choose desert. Ice cream with almonds and chocolate sauce and a strawberry panna cotta were easy choices. There was a welcome 10 minute respite before these were delivered and deliver they did. Lovely ice cream and a strawberry desert to die for. Given my gushing review thus far you may wonder why I liken the experience to a curate's egg. Whilst our experience and that of the couple to my left was all that could be expected, the same could not be said for the couple to my right. They were attending a show so had obvious time constraints. Their food was delayed unreasonably and when it did arrive the reaction suggested something was not right. Whilst my wife used the facilities I asked for the bill and the chap with the jacket placed the bill within a wallet on the table and I put £45 cash within this. When my wife left the toilet I saw her approach a member of staff and when she rejoined me she reported that the toilets were in an awful state with faecal matter very obvious within cubicles 2 and 4. We left the table with the cash in the wallet and the chap with the jacket entered from the serving area and we thanked him for looking after us and indicated we had settled the bill at the table. After we left the hotel we ambled up the Grassmarket only to be accosted by a member of staff who had another copy of the bill in his hand and accused us of leaving without payment. He seemed reasonably satisfied when we told him the money was on the table. We had not seen this gentleman before and as far as I am aware he had no part in our service during the meal. It left my wife and I with a rather bitter taste in our mouths. In summary, the quality of food, value for money and service are hard to beat. The devil is however in the detail and I will not return to a place where I have been accused of being a cheat and I have some reservation about how fellow customers were treated and the hygiene in the ladies toilet.

The prix fixe menu here (3 courses, £20) is a stone-cold bargain. At full a la carte prices - mmmm, not sure. 5 starters, 1 unavailable and another 3 containing allergens for me; 6 main courses, of which I had the sea bream and lentils - yum. 5 puddings, all quite cream-based, plus a cheese board with a £2 supplement. Even with 2 of us tackling it, the tiramisu was unfinished - strangely heavy but also overly creamy and not coffee-y enough. (Horrible coffee afterwards!). So, in a 3 course meal, my favourite thing was the lentils - I would never have predicted that. If you're not a monstrously fussy eater, it's probably fine. If you're me - a tiny bit disappointing. HOWEVER - really delightful service, attentive but not pushy, so I sort-of recommend it but with caveats. .

We visited Agua with our friends as part of a groupon deal; £45 per couple for a 3 course a la carte meal and a bottle of wine. We were warmly welcomed, and sat at our table along a bank of ultra modern seating, teetering over the edge of high end, stylish bistro/ cafe furniture, in a dark wood and deep mustard colour scheme with nods to 60's decor - I loved it!!The menu was plentiful and various, our table got for starters: goats cheese and truffle terrine, trio smoked salmon, and 2 x something and black pudding. All arrived at just the right time, we hadn't waited too long nor indeed did they appear immediately. All presented beautifully and all tasty. My only negative of the whole evening was the goats cheese and truffle terrine, it was lovely inside but there was a thick round layer of butter on the outside; now before I'm shot down in flames I know terrines by definition often have a 'layer' around them; I just felt with the richness of the cheese coupled with the butter it was all a bit too rich, unnecessary and dare I say 'fatty'?For mains, beef cheeks (stunningly rich and soft), 2x chorizo and Prawn linguine (heavenly) and I can't remember the other dish. But suffice to say if polite company and etiquette allowed we'd have all licked our plates!!! The same applies in terms of service everything arrived 'just on time' served by a lovely Spanish waiter, who was informed, friendly and professional.Desserts; we opted for one of each, so we could all taste t'others. Tiramisu, sticky toffee pudding, pear and bramble crumble and a lemon posset. I don't do deserts btw!! Well nothing went back to the kitchen ... so beautifully presented and the perfect portion size for me. The loos were really nice and spotlessly clean. Just a really nice experience, yes would defo go back next time we're in Edinburgh. And yes I'd recommend it to friends (uh oh I can't they were with us!!!).

We choose to have all our breakfasts and one dinner at Agua restaurant whilst staying at Apex Grassmarket. The service was very good and the food of high quality.

We visited here on a Saturday night on a 5pm wine and dine offer (£39 for two people having a 3 course meal from a fixed menu and a bottle of house wine). From the minute we entered we were treated like royalty. The staff were lovely and couldn't do enough for us. The restaurant itself was very modern and beautifully decorated.Sometimes on a fixed price menu you can feel that you are getting a lower standard of food than normal but this was certainly not the case in Agua Restaurant. The food was beautifully presented and tasted divine. I don't think I've ever had such pretty food and the taste definitely matched the presentation. I can highly recommend the trio of salmon starter, the caramelised beef cheek main and the tiramisu dessert that I had but all of the dishes look amazing. We had a bottle of house rose and it was a lovely wine.I will definitely return to Agua and have been raving about our meal to my friends.

Came here for a birthday meal. Fantastic service from Jackie and Juan can't fault them in any way they went the extra mile. The chef personalised the desert with a sparkler and happy birthday written on with icing. The food was amazing compliments to the chef. Only thing that spoiled it for me was a manager (beard) telling a member of staff off near the bar. Things like that should be done out of public view. We Had a fantastic evening thanks for the great service. Will be back again .

We first visited here in October 2015 using a 5pm offer and were very impressed with everything. The food is lovely and beautifully presented and the surroundings are very modern and comfortable. We decided to return today for lunch, hoping that it would be as good as dinner was previously and we were not disappointed! The staff are really friendly and we will definitely return again soon.

Found this restaurant from a website "after 5pm" great deals to be had from here. Rang ahead to say I'd be late- no trouble. Juan gave excellent service throughout the evening and I've to say he's an assett to the hotel and perhaps is overlooked. Is be biased! Food is great from start to finish no complaints at all not one fault could be found. I'd recommend the two dine offer for 3 course plus btle wine menu at £39!!Dessert to die for. Will visit agsin

Came across this restaurant through an online offer. Booked through website. Arrived and staff were very helpful, showing us to a table and taking our drinks order. Some nibbling bread was brought to our table; excellent! The waiter arrived to take our orders and give recommendations. The food arrived quickly, the waiter was attentive to top up our wine glasses as and when required. All in all a very pleasant meal and place to visit. Definitely recommended!

They couldn't fit us in the actual restaurant, so we ate in the bar which was fine and appreciated as we didn't have a booking. the food was not cheap and not great. Not a good combo. My steak was thin like a schnitzel which was a bit off putting, not sure why they would hammer a decent piece of steak? Perhaps it wasn't a decent piece of steak... It tasted ok however. Pepper sauce was too peppery for me (too many pepper corns) but this may have just been my taste, as I like to taste the steak, not have the sauce dominate.Waitress was great.

Quite simply stay at the Apex but take advantage of the range of independent restaurants just across the road. For the mediocre food this is a real disapointment and drinks are expensive. Much better for the same price just steps away

Lovely meal with the hilife card which worked out pretty cheap. Great food, recommend chicken lollipops to start and slow cooked beef cheek. restaurant a bit odd in décor- no windows our end. But lovely service, great food and reasonably priced drinks meant I would definitely come back again.

Had a late lunch for 17 people in the Agua Restaurant and everything from food to the surroundings and service was just excellent. Already at the booking stage they were extremely accommodating with all our special requests, nothing was too much trouble. The restaurant itself was very nicely decorated, service during the meal could not be faulted and the food was not only presented well but also tasted fabulous! No-one in our group had anything negative to say about the experience - particularly well done as we have some fusspots amongst us! Thank you for making our celebrations so special!

Got a fantastic reception on arrival as Robert offered us the wine from our wine and dine deal at the bar area before going through to eat our meal. Took our time to eat three amazing courses with the desert personalised with happy birthday written on the plate. Veronica and Jacqueline were extremely attentive. Veronica was very helpful in recommending dishes from the menu and is consistently welcoming. Will definitely be back as all of the staff made this a memorable birthday meal. Great food and great service.

We booked a wine and dine deal through 5pm which included 3 courses and a bottles of wine for £40 a couple. I was a little sceptical before we arrived and to be honest didn't expect so much value for the money. Food was to an excellent standard and fresh and you got the feeling the chefs took pride in what they were doing. We both had the black pudding and pork to start followed by the caramelised beef cheeks and chorizo and prawn linguini and both had the chocolate brownie for desert. The deal included a bottle house wine we opted for red and to was nice. Thanks for a great night. We will be sure to be back!

We just had a delicious dinner at Agua restaurant while we were staying in Apex city hotel. This was the nicest dinner we had in Edinburgh. I'd like to say thanks to Veronica for friendly and very professional service. Service was really fast. We had fixed menu for £39 with wine. We had chicken lollies and goat cheese for starter, beef and fish& chips for main dishes, tiramisu and brownie for the desserts. All was very tasty but I must say beef was the winner. And also if you are staying Apex hotel, kids eats free!

We went here on the £39 wine and dine deal. Fantastic value. I had black pudding and pork starter and shrimp and chorizo linguine main with a tirimasiu desert. My partner had minestrone soup the same main and lemon posset desert. Each dish was delicious and fantastic value for Central Edinburgh. The wine was an Italian white which was nice too. Well worth visiting.

We booked the £10:95 lunch deal via 5pm.com. The staff were very pleasant & the restaurant is bright with some great views of the castle from the bar. There was a complimentary dish of bread sticks , balsamic & a tomato dip . We had two courses . There is an excellent selection of starters & mains. Our food was well presented, hot and fair sized portions. Good find.

We were staying in the apex and decided to eat in the hotel 1 evening as they have an offer on of £40 for 2 for a 3 course meal and bottle of house wine. There was about 5 choices for each course which suited us both and we can be fussy. The portions are not huge but was just right for us. The food tasted amazing and would eat here again if in Edinburgh even if I wasn't staying in the apex. The restaurant wasn't that busy I think this is because people think it is more expensive to eat in hotel than going out but this was actually our cheapest and best meal out of the 3 nights.

I wanted to love this Indian street food spot, it had a cool vibe, smelled great, laid back and great soundtrack. But the food was tasteless. First, while they promote the Bombay sapphire gin, they simply won’t make their also advertised gin martini out of it, even for an up-charge. I rolled and took their version which was a citrusy lime affair, when everyone who matters knows gin martinis are meant to be served dirty and with olives. Maybe that’s the New York girl in me, but moving on, the Papadam had not an ounce of cumin, seed or powder, just puffed dough. Similarly, the Haka noodles were mush and honestly tasted like nothing except maybe vinegar. Maybe the mains are better, but I’d try your luck elsewhere. My 3 purchased items are all going back mostly untouched.

The cafe used to be dog friendly inside which was great after a walk with the dog in Holyrood Park. They've recently changed to not allow dogs inside the cafe which is very disappointing. The cashier was also unhelpful and unfriendly.

Service from the waiting staff was great but took sooooo long for food to come out. When the food did arrive it was very nice, but kitchen just didn’t perform, even though it didn’t seem too busy. Will come again and gone it another chance but the managers/owners need to get a grip of the back of house.

I'll keep this review simple. Great food, with great company and the staff are great and attentive. The mushroom chilli was amazing . Compliments to the chefs. And compliments to Michelle for picking up on my diary allergy for dessert 😇 . Vegan ice cream was lovely and so was the pear and pistachio tart. I want more of the tart 🤤. Looking forward to coming again , next visit to Edinburgh 🤤.
