If you're looking for a quiet Saturday night in Edinburgh, The Grosvenor has you covered—so quiet, in fact, that I started to wonder if I'd accidentally walked into a private function for ghosts. The atmosphere was less "bustling pub" and more "abandoned waiting room." Now, the toilets. Oh, the toilets. A sensory experience I won’t soon forget. Imagine a fragrance so powerful, so eye-wateringly pungent, that it transcends mere stench and becomes a full-body ordeal. There were puddles of questionable origin, a mystery jug of what I can only assume was a DIY science experiment, and an aroma that made me debate whether breathing was worth the risk. Nose or mouth? Neither felt like a winning option. On the plus side, the pint was fine—but after that trip to the loos, I wasn’t in the mood for another.

Great place, I went there last night with my fiancé to relax and it was great! ⭐️ The food was super good, tasty and good value for money, the drinks were well served and not excessive either 💫 The atmosphere is very welcoming and warm, we feel good there! Even the staff is very kind and attentive! 🌟 I really recommend this place if you want a good evening ✨️

We ate here twice during our stay in Edinburgh. The beer selection is great, the sandwiches delicious and the starters to share too. The environment is very friendly and the staff very kind. Good value for money. If you are in the area don't miss having a beer there.

Unfortunately the manager was very inhospitable to guest , I pulled 10 guested to another bar because of his closed mindedness, his loss not mine.

I recently had the pleasure—or rather, peculiar experience—of visiting this bar. Nestled inconspicuously in the heart of town, the bar's name intrigued me, promising a cozy retreat where patrons could unwind with a drink and some live music. However, it turned out that the most irritating feature was an unexpected element of decor: a comically dreadful painting of a badger. The bar itself is good. The drink selection was perfect, with a variety of beers and cocktails that could satisfy most tastes. The ambiance was cozy. The staff were friendly and attentive, ensuring that our glasses were never empty. And then there was the painting. Hung prominently on the wall oppiside to the bar, the painting of the badger seemed to stare at patrons with a mixture of confusion and disdain. The artist's intent is unclear—perhaps a modern take on badger portraiture? Regardless, the end result was an unintentional wrong sized painting of a angry badger. While the painting certainly provided a good laugh and a unique conversation starter, I couldn't help but wonder if its notoriety might overshadow the other aspects of the bar. The bar has the potential to be a cozy neighborhood haunt, but that painting is destined to destoy that feeling in the bar. All in all, if you're in the mood for a drink and a be annoyed at some unconventional artwork, that destroys the ambiance. Perfect place to go.

What a great find! Staff were so friendly especially Darren the manager, gave us great recommendations for different places to eat, although the food is lovely here to which I thought showed what a great manager he is.. I had 3 of the small plates and a few drinks with my husband. We came back the day after as also a fabulous place for football and other sport.

I stopped into the Grosvenor after a long day walking about Edinburgh. The staff were very friendly and the food was good! I especially liked their selection of ciders, and the music they had playing made for a nice vibe.

I recommend for those who want to experience the “pub atmosphere” Allow £30 for drink, main course and dessert The most surprising thing when you enter this restaurant is that you sit directly at the table, choose what you want and go directly to the counter to order and pay as a French person, that surprised me. The food is very good. The reception looks like a bar. The drink can be collected at the bar. I have no complaints. Great experience

Boring place, reclusive people, staff have tremendous body stink and the toilets was covered in piss. Go somewhere else

Scottish pub, we stopped to eat and surprisingly we were impressed! You can eat very well and the food is abundant! We will definitely be back!

The dinner was great! The food is very fresh and tasty, at good prices. The atmosphere is very welcoming, but more importantly, they met my needs. Specially the waiter, Luke, definitely made my day: he made sure that I had a dish that I could eat, and he checked on me after the dinner. I really appreciated it!

Just dropped a point on food as mine was a bit overdone, but the two other meals were lovely. Great pub. Great location. Will be back.

Stumbled upon this lovely pub while out shopping. I'd never been further along than Primark before 😆 but glad I kept walking. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, but not too in your face which I liked. Great vegan options, thanks for that. Thought the prices were what you'd expect to pay in the city centre, and a bit cheaper than some others. We will definitely be back next time we visit.

Food is absolutely awful. There were 5 of us and none of us were happy with the quality. As an example, my burger was a pressed patty with not more than 1cm and was completely churned. The steak pie! Please don’t call it a pie, its a bit of meat in between 2 puff pastry sheets. Disappointing.

Popped in after the rugby, what a brilliant atmosphere. Staff were very busy but all super friendly. Didn't have food as we couldn't get a table but I'll be booking one for the 6 nations

Simple, fast and excellent service

We liked it so much here we went twice for dinner and had the same meals! The fish and chips were perfect and the festive turkey dinner was beautiful, much better than we were expecting. It's a lovely, warm and cosy pub with a great atmosphere. The staff were friendly and helpful and the service was excellent. Would definitely recommend and go back if back in Edinburgh.

It was quiet but we had a good lunch, first time in here

I don’t normally leave reviews like this, but I am not kidding when I say that this was the worst meal I’ve ever had. I had the Balmoral Chicken, and the bacon tasted like rubber. The carrots and broccoli had no flavour at all. The chicken was nearly cold. My friend had a turkey dinner with roughly the same experience, only her roast potatoes somehow managed to taste burnt and raw at the same time. Also, we ordered a Merlot and a Malbec and they tasted EXACTLY the same. Save your money and go to Sainsbury’s next door. I wish someone had told us that because we’re on holiday and just wasted one of few meals we’ll be having here in Edinburgh on the worst microwave dinners known to man.

On Nov 3,2024 My husband & I were visiting from the USA and were dropped off near this pub at the end of an all day tour and told it was a short walk to our hotel. We were having difficulty determining which way to walk as it was an unfamiliar area, very dark & rainy, and street signs are extremely hard to locate on sides of buildings. We decided to stop at this Pub for a drink & something to eat, after which we’d get a taxi ride to hotel. The bartender greeted us. We found the pub to be very nice. Food was good. We watched a football game between Chelsea & Manchester. Great experience. But when we asked the bartender to please call us a taxi she told us they “have a policy NOT to call taxis for customers”. I told her we were unfamiliar with the area and didn’t feel comfortable trying to find our hotel on foot. She reiterated the policy of not calling taxis for customers. I asked her if she could give us a phone number and she said “0132-777-7777” or something close. I asked her the name of the pub because I didn’t see it anywhere. She said “just tell them Shandwick Place”. I tried calling and it went to an automated menu that did not work for taxi service. I thought maybe it was my phone so tried again on my husband’s phone. It didn’t work either. I asked the bartender if I needed to dial a prefix or something since our phones are based in US. She just repeated the number. I asked her what I was supposed to do and she offered no reply. My husband & I left feeling some anxiety and very disappointed at the experience. We tried using Google Maps to direct us to our hotel, the Mercure, a 15 minute walk from the Grosvenor IF you know where you’re going. It took us much longer and the faulty navigation due I guess to weather and tall buildings kept reversing itself. Not being able to see street signs made it worse and people we asked didn’t know what street we were on & were unable to help. We ended up off the main roads where we were the only ones walking except an occasional man here or there, in the dark, and I became frightened. My husband is 80 years old. We eventually came across a street name I recognized from earlier in the day, no thanks to the navigation app, and finally stumbled upon our hotel. It took a beautiful day of touring, a lovely pub experience, and soured it with a frightening experience. It could have easily been different if only the bartender had been more helpful.

We had a good evening here watching rugby! The food was very tasty and the service friendly and good. So many places to sit and loads of TV's including little 'private' style booths. Great for sports watching. Highly recommend

Of all the pubs tried in Edinburgh, this one was the least friendly: just a nice welcome, mediocre service but above all bad food, just food not of good taste quality. Very disappointed and almost the most expensive.

Totally ignored by staff but the men behind me were served. Ended up walking out.

First time in Edinburgh from south wales and stumbled upon this little gem by chance. Greeted upon entering, made to feel welcome straight away, the whole place had a relaxed, friendly, chilled atmosphere and the food was stunning. Would highly recommend to anyone visiting Edinburgh that wants tasty food and a great atmosphere.

Was quiet, pint fine, tad expensive

Excellent price for what you get. We were happy. Tables could have been cleaned. We were happy with everything, and I think the haggis is the best I've had so far! Would definitely come back!

Very good pub decor very smart ,very polite only one thing you need toilet checks to make sure there clean and running water in the urinals so I doesn't smell of urine . A bonus is that is smell clean and fresh . IN the ladies and the gents a very good pub brillant atmosphere I highly recommend the chicken wings with hot sauce my favourite yum

First time in Edinburgh. Found this pub close to our hotel. Very friendly staff, good food and drinks and inside there is a warm atmosphere. We will be coming back no question.

Popped in with friends on way into town centre for a drink . Loved the music and the bar staff I think they were there was 2 called Luke and Darren were so cheery. Didn’t try the food so can’t comment on that but would definitely recommend for a drink

We had the same fish sandwich in London and it was very good. Here there was absolutely tiny pieces of fish on bad bread. All bread and no fish!

Great beer. Fish and chips is good. Fish sandwich was missing 70% of the fish but the bread was fresh.

Good food but it's very expensive. You literally need to be loaded to come here. Bit ridiculous especially as there other pubs that are much cheaper for food. My advice is to save your money. Place is a rip off.

This use to be one of my favourite bars in the 90! And it hasn't changed ged a bit. Was great. Really good staff.clean enough. Although we just popped in for a couple of dri ks the food looked amazing. Will be back.

Good range of drinks available for decent prices and there’s loads of screens everywhere for keeping up with the sport. There’s a nice relaxing atmosphere on an afternoon, plus everywhere including the toilets are clean. A great pub in the area.

A great traditional pub in Edinburgh. Really friendly staff, good food and beer. Dog friendly, they brought our pup some water and nibbles. Highly recommended.

We were looking for a cozy place near to our air bnb and lucked out with the Grosvenor. The cocktails were good and The highlight was when our young bartender broke sang us a song.

Fantastic staff, Great banter, didn't catch the two young lads names but they were so friendly and the manager Darren. Was just in Edinburgh for the night and definitely will stop by here again

We visited with a large family group, and the Grosvenor could not have been more hospitable. We really enjoyed the traditional ambience at Grosvenor's. Our experience was enhance by the friendly servers who worked hard to keep up with everyone's food and drink orders. We tried a couple of appetizers, and they were tasty and a reasonable value for the city centre. We would absolutely stop in at Grosvenor's on our next trip.

Approximately 100 of us got together for a family reunion. You accommodated us with ease. Service was excellent, staff were very attentive, food was good and the Owner went out of their way to assist us in having a most memorable weekend of family fun. Thanks so much. Will definitely see you again

A lovely Bar, convenient for all the main attractions in Edinburgh. Fabulous helpful staff and lovely food. They catered for a large number of Deuchars for our reunion in July, and gave us some generous gifts and raffle prizes for our events over the weekend. Thank you all - we can't wait to come back.

From the moment I approached Darren, the Manager of the Grosvenor about a special event, he was beyond helpful. Bringing potentially 100 people from all over the world to the bar on their first evening together in Edinburgh would be a challenge for any institution - but not only did we want to eat (and drink) in the Grosvenor, we wanted to dictate what beer was available and the music to be played. The end result? A large number of people were very happy! Great food, excellent Deuchars IPA, traditional music, but most important (and always the unknown until you get there) a brilliant atmosphere of welcome, fun and good service. I know that any of our 'Gathering' who return to Edinburgh will automatically think of the Grosvenor as the place to go. We are all hugely grateful to all the staff - they went way beyond the call of duty.

Op hoogtij dagen lastig om zonder reservering in centrum plek te vinden, zelfs met z'n 2-en. Vandaar net erbuiten neergestreken bij Grosvenor. Aan de buitenkant oogt het niet heel aantrekkelijk, je zou er zo voorbij lopen, maar binnen een heerlijke Engelse pub sfeer. Veel lawaai, tv's aan, redelijk wat locals, veel bieren op tap, zeer vriendelijke bediening en lekker eten. Na wat biertjes aten we traditioneel fish & chips en een steak pie, allebei erg lekker. Toe een triple browny, veel kalorieën maar zo genieten. Kortom, als je gaat voor sfeer, reuring en pub food is Grosvenor the place to be!

Nice pub friendly staff. The price for pint of larger is disappointing it's too high and enough for me not to come back anymore, I had a pint of Guinness a couple weeks ago here and it was nice but I was charged £6.10 which was aprx €7.44, that's very unreasonable you don't get charged that price in most places in Dublin.

This place must be losing so much money on some of the worst service I have seen. Staff just disappear at busy times and customers are walking out the door.

Very cozy, clean, well decorated pub with a TV on each table to watch sports. You have to order and pay at the counter and they bring it to your table. The food is typical of pubs: fish and cheese, hamburger, mc cheese, sandwiches... The price is normal, between 12 and 17 pounds for the main courses. Pretty decent gluten free menu. We didn't drink beer, just tap toilet.

Friendly bar.staff resonablely priced and thought food was really good. We both had chicken breaat topped with bacon and haggis with mash and veg and a whiskey sauce. All went really welll together and would have gone back again next day but limited time in edinbrough.

Very impressed! We were just coming off the street to get out of the rain and decided to stay for food. Service was excellent, music and atmosphere were good and we all thoroughly enjoyed our food. Decent prices too! We are staying just around the corner, so we will potentially be back!
