Great pub! Atmospheric. Fully booked for food but they allowed you to take in your own fish and chips from a chippy up the road! Provided napkins & cutlery. Great selection of whisky & gin!

We had a fantastic experience at The Old Bell! We arrived hungry after a long overnight flight, and Chris took such great care of us, ensuring we were able to sit upstairs and order food and drinks before they had even opened the upstairs bar. I tried the Haggis Neeps & Tatties, and my wife had the Steak & Ale Pie. Both were super delicious, huge portions, and very reasonably priced. Chris also gave us some great recommendations on what to do in the local area, and places to check out in Edinburgh. He was also just lovely to chat with! They also have a Monday quiz night that I wish we were able to stay for, but were too tried this time. But the pub filled up for the quiz by the time we left, so I’m sure they do a great job. Would totally recommend going to the Old Bell, and I will definitely come again next time I’m in Edinburgh!

This establishments was recommended to us by two locals. It was out first night and pub visit in Scotland and was tourist friendly. Tom, our bartender was very hospitable. The appetizers and mains were served hot and tasted good. The drafts were expertly poured and reasonably priced.

Great little pub in South Edinburgh. It was quite busy and the staff was a little bit overwhelmed. The steak & ale pie and the haggis were awesome! I was a little disappointed with the beer selection, was hoping for a local ale, they only had a local lager.

A friend and I had dinner in the Old Bell a few weeks ago. The food was really good, the waiter was a lovely young man (nothing was too much trouble). Overall it was a good evening and we'll definitely be back.

The bar is a good place to spend the evening. The food was okay (had scampi with fries). The waitress didn't come to the table even though we had agreed. Upon request, the table was cleaned and our order was taken.

This is our second year on vacation here and we really like it again.

Very touristy pub. There are much better and more authentic addresses in Edinburgh outside the city center.

Dropped in randomly late and was pleasantly surprised that we could order food even though the kitchen was closing soon. 7 people with 5 different dishes that were quickly on the table and tasted divine. A must go there if you are nearby

A good little pub near our guest house. We spent two evenings there during our vacation. Good Scottish dishes. A special mention for Jack who quickly found us a good table and provided friendly, efficient service, and for Katy's smile.

Thank you so much to the Old Bell for a fantastic Schools out get together. We had a brilliant time,fantastic buffet ,music and staff were all very friendly. Would totally recommend The Old Bell for food and party get togethers.

Gorgeous interior and homely vibes. Lots of board games at the back to play over a pint. We had a lot of fun doing the Monday pub quiz as well!

Not a friendly place for young parents. We were not allowed to enter with a sleeping infant in the stroller.

I went to the bell for my birthday and enjoyed the scotch burger and as always it was as good as it normally is. I have been going to the bell for years and the televisions are good for the football and the staff are very good so I definitely recommend.

We had the local cheese plate. Half portion would be enough for two people. The two to the left was best but not much taste in general. Nice old bar.

Really good place, food was really good value and portions. Accepted a dog. Would highly recommend you book a table as very popular. Service was brilliant only knocked a star off as the poor lady was run off her feet as needed more staff

Atmosphere 5/5: It’s a very classy yet whimsical environment. Most importantly, I was slightly surprised by how clean everything is (especially since it appears to be a rather old pub)! Food 5/5: The haggis bites and steak & ale pie I had were amazing. The apple pie with custard was also nice. They’re fairly-priced too—I had a three-course meal for only £27.85. Service 4.5/5: This has been my experience with two pubs already, so it might just be a pub food thing, but the foods came out rather slowly. The young bartender I met initially (which took my order and told me to grab a seat) wasn’t exactly rude but wasn’t friendly either. But the staff members I met afterwards were all very nice and friendly.

Se cerchi un autentico Pub scozzese , lo hai trovato . A Edimburgo per un weekend, ci proviamo la prima sera ( sabato ) ma non troviamo posto perché quando c'è il Rugby è di fatto quasi impossibile sedersi anche solo per bere Ci riusciamo la domenica sera , il un locale quasi vuoto . Ottima birra , servizio discreto ( gentili i ragazzi anche se di fatto ordini andando tu al bancone ) e locale totalmente originale senza alcuna alterazione turistica . Prendiamo due fisch and Chips, due Tennens e un ottimo torta di mele . Presso onesto ma quello che davvero ti resta è l'ambiente . Se vuoi passare una serata vera in Scozia questo è il posto giusto

Ottime pietanze, locale molto carino personale gentile e disponibile, Bell'atmosfera. Consiglio se vi è possibile non andare nel fine settimana perché molto frequentato e difficile trovare disponibilità. Noi siamo dovuti ritornare il giorno dopo e abbastanza presto. Ma ne è valsa la pena

On our first evening in Edinburgh we got the advise of going to take our dinner at the old bel in. Nice pub, good food. We took for starters the haggis nibs and shrimps. Main course the steak pie which was very tasteful with mash and fries. I recommend this place.

The place looks beautiful Really cozy feeling , the service was great and we didn’t wait too long to get what we ordered, food was incredible we were all pleased with our dishes . If I’m lucky enough to be in Edinburgh again I’ll definitely be coming back here.

We loved a few visits to the Old Bell Inn while staying at a local hotel for a few days. A cute pub with a great atmosphere. Excellent service and food. We are sport fans and enjoyed the atmosphere for the local derby game. We'd love a pub like this as our local.

Lovely vibe, great food, fun atmosphere with games &football

We arrived for lunch at 1pm having booked a table to be told the booking had been put in for previous day but were quickly shown to a table. The server brought menus and immediately said there was no steak pie as they were only just making it! Disappointed we ordered and mains arrived and were very nice. Later we decided to order deserts but again were told there was no apple pie. This left only ice cream or sticky toffee pudding the latter arriving lukewarm. Altogether disappointing.

We had a relaxing drink and meal here one weekday evening. Food was plentiful (steak and ale pie) and tasty but we both found it rather salty for our palates. The pub is charismatic and staff very nice. It was also beautifully decorated outside for Christmas.

Great Family Thursday Night Catch Up. The Atmosphere - fun & lively (Football was being shown) The Staff/Team - efficient & engaging. The Food - Great Food, Great Portions, Great Presentation & (Most of All) Great Tasting. Between the Five of us, we ordered: Old Bell Steak Pie Haggis Neeps and Tatties (Me - Loved it) IPA Battered Haddock Fried Halloumi Burger Breaded Scampi The food was ordered swiftly, delivered efficiently & ‘polished off’ swiftly. We were all very well looked after by the team - Bravo to The Old Bell Team. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ A GREAT Pint of Guinness, is served in this establishment.

Popped in for a couple of drinks with work mates was quiet picked up when football started, staff friendly decent prices clean tidy traditional pub what's not to like.

Amazing cask beer and food and it's not in the busy part of Edinburgh it's a locals place to go for amazing food and drinks.

Rick Steves recommended it, and though the "fine dining" upstairs was closed because of a price event, the pub was great. Definitely above average pub grub. I had gnocchi with sauce from fresh tomatoes and veggies with a bit of spice to it. The apple pie was made fresh and full of fresh apples. Lot of good options for beers, ales and lagers. They were having. "Trivia Contest," which was well organized and great fun for all. I will not say how I scored. Winners shared their prizes!

Så hyggeligt et sted med søde personaler og meget lækkert mad Det bedste ved denne pub er at der ikke spilles høj musik så det er muligt at sidde og hyggesnakke over maden og en god øl. Vi er helt sikkert blevet fan af stedet.

We realize it just wasn't the place for us. Loud TV with screens everywhere. The fish and chips, by our reconing, were greasy and not enjoyable. Proper (cask) ale was good though.

Its a pub, its Lively when the soccer is going has good pub food and great service.

Echter Pub mit rotem Teppich ausgelegt. Es gibt klassisches Esses, Fisch and Chips, Burger, Haggis, Curry... Natürlich diverse Bierdorten und Cidre. Weiterhin hängen ca. 5 - 8 Fernsehmonitore im Pub, wo Spirt läuft. Die Atmosphäre ist wirklich toll, der Service o.k., ist ein echter Pub für Einheimische - und andere!

Awful experience. Went in for a few drinks with a friend. Barman was incredibly bigoted when I asked if the football would be on. Barmaid was clueless as I ordered a G&T and she put the gin in a huge glass then poured the entire bottle of tonic into the glass. Had to tell her to put another gin in. Never seen anything like that in my life. You let the customer pour the mixer in. So a pint of lager & a double G&T came to £16.40p. Needless to say we left after one drink & will never be back.

Great cask ales, good food & helpful, welcoming staff.

We came here on a recommendation from our B&B hosts and are glad we did. Food was good, beer was delicious, and atmosphere was terrific. Scotland was playing Georgia and even the rain delay didn't dampen enthusiasm.

Pub tipico con ottimo cibo e birra. Abbiamo assaggiato l’haggis, davvero molto buono. Unica pecca la posizione un pochino decentrata, ma comunque in una zona tranquilla abitata in prevalenza da studenti e giovani scozzesi. A circa 2 km dalla Royal Mile, questo pub è un piccolo gioiellino nascosto. Consigliato! P.S. Sono presenti circa 6 tv dove trasmettono le partite di calcio delle principali squadre scozzesi.

Traditional pub, friendly staff and great beer

Don’t know why the waiters didn’t respect us when we arrived. We ´ve waited one hour for table despite the free tables, once seated, we have never seen the menu, and they forgot to cook our fish and chips after i ordered one since i didn’t know what was on the menu. Very disapointed because we were Very kind and we did nothing to deserve that treatment

Went with my family for dinner on vacation and it was fantastic. The steak and ale pie was incredible and the sticky toffee was amazing. The service was perfect and would go again if ever possible! Not as touristy of a spot as well making it ideal for a more local experience.
