12th January was my wife's birthday, so I searched out somewhere I thought might be "special", using Tripadvisor reviews. Cairn Lodge seemed the place, but turned out to be something different from all the glowing reviews. But let me be fair. There were some good points. The ambience of the Garden Restaurant was very pleasant, and the staff were very attentive. But the food has a serious problem. We decided on 2 courses and 3 of us chose the belly pork. We all knew that belly potk is usually slow roasted and comes with crisp crackling and soft, tender, melt in your mouth meat. We were sadly disappointed. My wife had one mouthful and left the rest of the pork. Instead of meeting our expectations, the belly pork servings more closely answered the descriptions of Scotland's number 1 catering wholesaler, Brakes, who in their online belly pork advert to the trade, say, "Once reheated by either boiling or microwaving in the bag from frozen, remove and finish under the grill to brown the top as desired and serve..." The pork showed no sign of being roasted and then sliced on site. All the pieces were identical, suggesting factory production. All were equally tough. The pieces of carrot and parsnip , and the roast potatoes, were tasty enough, but the near incinerated Yorkshire puddings needed to have been "reheated" for several minutes less. Presumably they came from the same stable as the pork. Around the dining room, everyone seemed to have the same bought-in offerings, all treated in the same way. I have several observations. We are all used to this sort of food in the cheap fast-food places attached to Travelodges and the like, but Cairn Lodge presents itself as some special. Instead, you offer second-rate food at inflated prices. The meal for 4, with no wine, cost just under £160. I feel there is a certain dishonesty in what you are offering. Over-priced and second rate. Secondly, I am very disappointed that you have apparently weaned your clientele on to this standard of food, and they actually believe it is a good standard.. I come from a background as a writer for one of the major travel companies, and I can tell you that your food is not of the quality customers are led to believe. It is second-rate, and does not belong to an hotel which promotes itself as giving quality. Clearly we will not be back.

Absolutely outstanding food and service! Definitely worth a visit! Jon and Fernanda truly care about the quality of food and service they provide and this shows in everything they do. We can’t believe we have been coming to the area for years and haven’t visited before and we will most definitely be back.

We booked a dinner at Andrew Fairley, whilst staying in Gleneagles for the weekend. The food was impeccable, the wine was incredible and the overall experience, fantastic! All the staff were great, especially our sommelier Ollie who gave us great insightful Information on all the wine pairings. The only thing I would say is that the atmosphere does not live up to other restaurants in the hotel. The decor does not match the food and quality of the experience. Incredible experience and would like to return one day

The team here run a very tight ship at night. Everything ran like clockwork so my only complaint would be that the service was too efficient and too quick. No sooner had our delicious starter finished and they were straight out with the beef wellington which was carved tableside. We could not fault the food or ambiance. Just need it to slow down so you can enjoy each course. Highly recommend.

Fantastic 60th birthday tea for my husband with family and friends today. 30 adults and 2 toddlers for Sunday tea. Could not fault anything. The service was great and the staff serving us could not do enough for us. We had chosen our food before we came which of course speeded everything up but this was well worth it. The food was piping hot, and even with so many of us we were never kept waiting. They could not do enough to make sure we all had what we needed including the children. Food was very tasty and plentiful. Not one complaint from any of us - apart from those who had not ordered a pudding and they seen all the fantastic puddings being brought out. They still managed to provide a few extras for those who could not resist and changed their minds at the last minute. Thank you all for making this such a special day and I can’t wait to comeback. This was the first visit for a few of the party but certainly won’t be the last.

We were staying at Gleneagles and made the mistake of not booking into a restaurant on our first night so found this place to eat. The food was beautiful I had beetroot and goats cheese starter and was very impressed all delicious… My only niggle was the drinks were quite slow in arriving but don’t let that put you off..

So disappointing! Went for a birthday meal with my wife two sons and daughter. Ordered ribeye steak medium done. It arrived overcooked, dry and tasteless. First time I have ever sent a meal back. They were very good and without hesitation took it away and got a fresh. I kid you not it was no better, so much so that I couldn’t eat it. Never again will I go to the dormay what a disappoint!
