Another lovely lunch. Wine list continues to improve and recommendations are excellent. Highlight was an exceptional crepes Suzette made with humour and style. Shout out for an excellent pianist too

Poor service, food ok, but not special. Price perrmance ratio very bad. Booked the Strathearn for a birthday dinner and were lokking forward to a nice dinner evening. Disappointng from the beginning on..Very poor service (apart from the sommelier), service was hectic and did not really care. Food was ok, but-combined with the poor service- not worth the 850 pounds we finally paid for three people (prestarter, Starter and main course, water, one bottle of Brunello and two glasses of champagne). We won‘t be back for another BDay dinner and can definitively not recommend the Strathearn.

Wonderful Sunday lunch as always. Cheese soufflé a great start, perfect beef from the trolley and a fabulous sour cherry soufflé to finish. No sense of rush, service that is professional yet always so friendly. Paul is an excellent sommelier, and Laurence my waiter most attentive. Thank you to Liam, the food and beverage manager who always takes time to make me do welcome. No hotel does it better (except perhaps the Ritz!) in the UK for grand dining. What a treat to have this so near to home in Scotland.

This was our first and certainly not last visit to the Strathearn. We enjoyed a Sunday lunch in beautiful surroundings. The restaurant was very comfortable with piano music playing gently in the background. We were greeted by waiting staff and a very knowledgeable sommelier. The food was of an excellent standard, the only slight problem was a delay in serving the main course. Three different members of staff apologised for this but it wasn’t a problem for us. Each course was meticulously described by the staff serving it. Our only problem was what to choose from the menu. Each course was delicious! Staff at all levels were both professional and friendly without being intrusive! For us the Strathearn provides exactly what you pay for. It is not cheap but you certainly get what you pay for, delicious food served in a fabulous setting by staff who certainly know their role. Thank you and we look forward to a return visit!

What can you not say about the Strathearn restaurant.! This is by far, not the first time we have dined in the restaurant and I can honestly say with many years of management experience in 5 star hotels and dinning, the Strathearn staff and cuisine is an absolute delight to experience. The staff as always, shine with professionalism and knowledge, Gleneagles should be extremely proud to have such dedicated persons in their hospitality industry. Once we arrived in the bar area a familiar face recognised us and welcomed us back with a smile, attention is everything. Our wait staff were entertaining but not intrusive and very keen to ensure your short time in the restaurant was again an unforgettable experience. Thank you to all of the members of the team from the bar area, to the chefs and the restaurant staff and of course the fabulous food. We will be back for sure. David

This is not the restaurant it was. It used to be a special experience dining here. Not any more. Now you can actually feel it's your wallet that is the priority. Over recent years in particular, (maybe since it came under new ownership) the prices have gone steadily up while the portion sizes have gone steadily down. It is now over-priced. They're trying to have their cake and eat it by trying to accommodate families with children (of ANY age, at any time in the evening), couples trying to have a romantic dinner and everyone in between. That's a recipe for some unhappy guests. The service standard has fallen (too many trainees and not enough experienced staff around.) It's a glorious room but don't be suckered in - you won't see it if you're going for dinner during the darker months because the lighting is now kept very low. On top of all that, the hotel has introduced a discretionary service charge of 12.5%. that is automatically added to your bill. They know what they're doing; they know that too many people will be embarrassed to have it removed. All of the above point to one thing - greed. (The financial kind.) I'm not anti-profit btw; I'm a capitalist. But a restaurant such as this should make 'value' the priority and as a result, the guests and their money will come. Shame. Having dined in this restaurant many times over the last 25 years, it was the first time that we chose to dine elsewhere on 6 of the 7 nights we stayed. 4 of those nights were away from the hotel. Until we can hear or read of an improvement, we won't ever return.

We visted yesterday for Sunday Lunch, the whole experience was almost faultless. We arrived early, greeted as usuall by the fantastic valet parking team. Heading through to the bar for pre-drinks which we loved, the service was attentive! Heading through to lunch the host greeted us and sat us in a windo seat which was lovelty. The sommelier was knowledgebale and provided my wife with alcohol free options, I jumped straight into the Californian reds! The food was exceptional from start to finish, the trolley service provides that classic joy of hotel dinning! We had a slight issue with overcooked roast beef on our main course it was delat with immediately, our server quickly replaced both meals in full and the maitre d poped over to aplogise and advise we whould have our meals shortly, which arrived within 5 minutes perfectly pink, this is how to deal with an issue! To be honest we were so relaxed by the whole enviroment, service and quaility of our pre-starters, starters and inter course we were happy to wait. There was wonderful live piano to listen to and beautiful decor. It's not cheap at circa £350 for 2 with an entry level bottle of wine and service charge, however, it is value for money and I can't recomend enough!

This is a fine dining experience with fine dining prices. Sadly, the service was inconsistent with either too many staff or no one to be seen. The food was delicious. The smoked salmon and scallops starters were fresh and tasty. The roast from the trolley was cooked to perfection. The sweet was a bit of a letdown, and the £13 supplement for cheese seemed a bit of a rip-off

My Wife and I booked a night in the Hotel, with a dinner booking in the Strathern Restaurant on the evening that we stayed. We were disappointed that the earliest time available for dinner was 20.45pm at night and were told that an earlier time could be available and to ask at reception when we checked in. I also phoned reception twice prior to our stay to see if we could eat earlier and was told “there were no earlier times available”. When we checked in to the Hotel we were given a time of 18.30pm which was probably a good deal earlier than we wanted, but we took the reservation at 18.30pm. We were also told to produce my golf membership card when we went down to dinner to have the members discount applied to the bill, which we did. My wife and I duly arrived at the designated time of 18.30pm and sat for about two and a half hours having our meal. We were horrified that when we first went in there were over 75 tables vacant and by 8/8.30pm there were at least 40/50 tables free, which meant we could quite easily have come in to dine at 7.30pm, which would have been our preferred option! When the bill arrived, needless to say the members discount had not been applied (which is also the “norm” for the Dormy House) and in addition to that, there was no charge at all on the account for the food! We had only been charged for the drinks - maybe I should have said nothing at the time, but I decided to let the waiter know of their error! Whilst I understand the problems that a five star Hotel have in trying to get inconsiderate people settled in to dine at the correct time, perhaps you should allow these people 15 minutes “grace” on their table reservation? This would allow other diners the opportunity of eating when they want?

Breakfast in the Strathearn is an experience to be savoured . Spend a couple of hours in the opulent surroundings, savouring the vast selection of beautifully prepared fare is utter decadence and totally immersive. Personally, it’s an experience I believe should be sampled infrequently to garner maximum enjoyment but also to prevent one’s body weight spiralling upwards. Fabulous.

My wife and I enjoyed a one night stay at the hotel in November. We've been to the hotel a few times before for afternoon tea mainly and this was our first overnight stay. We had dinner at Andrew Fairlie's but came here for our breakfast. The restaurant has a classy and welcoming feel to it with high ceilings and soft furnishings that absorb the sound so the restaurant doesn't feel noisy. It's somewhere you want to spend time in and it's really charming. I imagine it's just as atmospheric for dinner so may be in future we'll try here for dinner. The breakfast buffet was exceptional with a wide variety of hot and cold options. Children are made very welcome with their own little station. We enjoyed their smoked salmon, cold meats and cheese. Then their hot options for a hearty Scottish cooked breakfast (that's the one with tatie scones, black pudding and haggis for those unfamiliar with it!). The fresh fruit rounded off our breakfast as we had no room for pastries or pancakes though I saw other people order/take items to go in boxes. Don't miss the wide variety of fresh juices as well as the fizz and Bloody Mary station. Staff are excellent, chatty and work really hard to keep the restaurant ticking over. None of the staff, particularly the younger ones, looked like they'd been dragged out of bed or had a hard night on the tiles the night before - they all looked pristine and were enjoying their work. Overall, this was a pleasant dining experience with quality food on offer and a high standard of service. Enjoy!

Always one of the best restaurants in the UK, if not the world, and one that was so good we have booked to go back on Friday. The setting is 10/10 with a large old fashioned room of Victorian splendour with a piano playing and singer on a Saturday night. Even though we were a party of 9 the service was excellent in every way and nothing was too much for the highly trained and polite staff. Again 10/10 for service. The food was outstanding. I had smoked salmon for starter and then beef wellington for main. Very impressive. The desert was chocolate and this too was perfect. So the food score was 10/10. Thank you for an amazing experience.

Stayed at Gleneagles so booked into try their various offerings. Booked this for a Monday night - hard to get a table despite it being half empty but at the last minute they could easily fit us in at the time we wanted… make your own mind up on what they were playing at! Waiter super friendly and attentive - thought decent start despite mediocre reviews. That’s where the good bits ended. £100 for 3 courses excluding sides. Reasonable selection for every course with caviar needlessly added on at the drop of a hat for a hefty fee. Food was poor. Starters were perhaps the best bit and they were not great! Onion tart and a cheese soufflé. Onion tart sweet with nice accompaniments but luke warm so made it an unusual eat. Cheese soufflé was eggy and scrambled - not nice at all. Onto mains - duck and the roast of the day - beef short rib. Beef was tasty with a nice subtle mustard sauce. The duck was cold and uninspiring for somewhere trying to be elite. The sides were a disaster! First they brought the wrong ones then said have them anyway we will get yours. These came as we finished the main course. I had said not to bother as we were practically finished but they still gave us them. They shouldn’t have bothered as the potatoes were rock hard, I don’t think they had really touched the pan. They were also tasteless. Dessert was a take on a Jaffa cake and a souffle. The chocolate orange dessert was far, far too big which made it a tough eat. The soufflé wasn’t that light and eggy like the starter. Needless to say we didn’t hang around and asked for the bill. The head waiter advised he had removed the cost of the sides as we had ordered more but they took a while to arrive! I politely explained that it was the mistake of HIS staff as they had brought the wrong sides and that I had instructed them not to bother getting the correct ones. He explained he was not aware of that. I signed the bill wishing we had removed the tip but alas the main waiter covering our table was very good. Overall 5/10. They are trying to be something they are not. Fine dining this is not. For the price point the food is poor, cold and uninspiring. Surroundings are pleasant with live music. Staff attentive but with a head waiter not fully aware of what is going on. Disappointing to be accused of ordering more sides when we didn’t and because they took so long they were doing us a favour by removing them from the bill! Don’t waste your time or money coming here. Spend more and get a table at Andrew Fairlies where they do know how to treat you and food or go to the steak place!

Had diner there last week, the food was ok but over priced for the dreadful service we received. One of the staff had only been working there two weeks and was a trainee, another Asian waiter we couldn’t understand and the wine waiter was very casual and didn’t seem to know how to open a bottle of champagne. We would have walked out after the main course but stayed for the Crepes Suzette which was excellent. Would not go again and instead eat in Andrew Farley restaurant or outside hotel

While the food, when it came, was excellent, the service and delivery of food to our table was awful. We waited repeatedly for the menus (for the main menu and desserts) and had to ask several times for these. We also waited an awfully long time for food, and for a table of 4 it didn't even come at the same time, so we had to decide whether to go ahead and eat while warm or wait for the rest of the food to be delivered. We spent over 3 hours for a 3 course meal and wished we had chosen an alternative way to spend our evening. This was completely unacceptable service and although we received an apology we still don't know whether the problem was with the kitchen or serving staff, but the serving staff seemed to be extremely busy, so maybe both! Dining numbers shouldn't come as a surprise in a hotel like this. Very disappointing.

Gleneagles is, undoubtedly, an exceptional hotel with an outstanding reputation. Overall, we had a wonderful stay with fantastic golf, but our dinner was disappointing and fell below the standards we experienced elsewhere. Our major problem was in the cooking of the meat which is fundamental to the entire meal. We ordered venison medium rare but it came well done and in fact DRY.We could have sent it back but that only serves to spoil the ambience of the evening and the flow of the meal. Whoever was overseeing the pass can't have been doing their job properly. Who orders version WELL DONE? it should not have been served. For a restaurant with the reputation of the Strathearn it was very poor.

Have been coming to Gleneagles for 17 years and always enjoyed The Strathearn restaurant, but things have changed. Difficult to tell if this is due to Covid related staff shortages or new owners trying to sueeze even more profit from their customers. i suspect the latter. Menu is much curtailed with a set dinner at £95, to which you need to add vegetables ( £8.50 per portion ) and with half the items on the menu attracting a surcharge. Sauv Blanc comes at £19 oer glass and our meal for four was well over £600 ( incl 1 bottle of wine ). Crepe suzette used to be a ( surchargeable ) pleasure, made and flambed at table and absolutely delicious. Now the process has been simplified with sauces made beforehand and suspicions that alchohol input has been reduced or amended. The crepes were stodgy, stuck together and the sauce was not good. The problem is that we will never dine there again as value for money is very poor. Had better and tastier meals in Dormy or Brasserie so owners are shooting themselves in the foot IMHO.

Delightful dinner. Beautiful dining room and lovely table arrangement. Friendly and efficient service from the welcome to waiters and sommelier. We felt very cosseted throughout. Starters (Orkney scallops and a lobster ravioli) and mains (Tweed Valley beef and wild venison) were all excellent. Delicious classical cooking and hearty portions. Garnishes with the mains were very good indeed. Desserts were fine, though my pineapple parcel was better than my wife’s vanilla parfait (texture a little hard). Shame the tarte wasn’t on! Great wine list, and we kept it sensible with a lovely SA cab sav. All in all a really very enjoyable evening. It’s not cheap but the whole experience makes it worth it. Knocking on the door of 1* Michelin we thought and nicely devoid of superfluous amuses etc. Considering the number of covers here it’s an impressive operation. Would love to come again.

Was lucky enough to dine here for my birthday. What can I say? From entering the restaurant to leaving, not one negative. The atmosphere, decor, music all make the dining experience special. The food is out of this world. The staff are wonderful, they are on hand to cater for your every need, top up drinks, clear plates, replenish cutlery, serve food, but never intrusive. They make you feel so welcome and that nothing is too much trouble.

Great place for great food, love to have Sunday lunch here as its just an amazing room now. Menu has everything you could want from fish to steaks flambé at your table. Only issue I could say is you have to take a 2 or 3 course menu which, if your like my wife who doesn’t eat much and prefers only a main course, isn’t so good.

We had breakfast here each morning. You are greeted by staff who show you to your table and then wait on your every need. The self service includes three types of porridge, cooked, cold meats, salmon, cheese, breads, juices, smoothies and much more. It is very easy to overeat! There is also a menu to choose from if you wish to have something freshly cooked. All manner of teas and coffees also available. Service is first class. We also had an evening meal here which is the best meal I’ve ever had. The steak and crepes were cooked in front of us. The salmon and cheese were prepared at the table. The room itself is luxurious with piano music and singer. Would highly recommend for a special occasion.

Visited here last Saturday evening and have visited annually for over 15 years. First time since it has opened after refurbishment and a price hike of £20 per person to £85 per person not including drinks. Welcome as previous first class. The menu has a varied selection however noticed an increase in supplements across all courses including an additional £15 for a basic steak. Waiter service was very good however the sommelier at the start ended up being the waiter and chef as the night went on. (Not that exclusive or soecial). The scallop starters were excellent (no supplement for this) and lobster ravioli was mediocre. Ordered the steak and here comes the bizarre twist, new to the strathearn. The steak was prepared and cooked on a trolley next to your table. Normal for Salmon, beef Wellington and crepes but so out of place for a steak. (And with a £15 supplement) It took about 10 to 15 minutes to prepare and cook one steak (interrupting any privacy) and your clothes and others nearby become smelling of cooking. Not what you want or expect in one of the top restaurants in uk. (And cooked by a sommelier , waiter ....definitely not the chef). Gleneagles management need to review this method, if customers pay over £100 plus per head then you want your food prepared and cooked by top qualified chefs, not a waiter dressed in a black suit! at your table. The setting is stunning, background vocals and music tremendous and the desserts so tasty. Bottled Water is overpriced so ask for tap water and wine is expensive. Food is tasty and would get 5 star review but must rate the overall experience for what you pay. £250 for 2.

The refurbishment means a huge dent in your wallet for a fairly similar menu. The staff are great, the setting is amazing and the dining experience awesome but!!!! At already £85 pp to add £15 for steak and £10 for cheese board seems really OTT particularly when it isn't even cooked by the chef but done at the table by the sommelier. Granted he did take time to explain the cooking arrangements but we left the restaurant smelling like we had done a shift in the kitchen. This restaurant is special but far too many add ons which makes it almost not worth it.

The very best of scottish cuisine. The service is excellent and the staff are very well informed but there is a little bit of stuffiness. I was wearing rather nice casual shoes but it was suggested that I should have something more 'dressy' for the occasion. The wine list is a bit pricey for what you get,

Since the refurbishment of the restaurant the step up in food quality has been unbelievable. The level of service is world class as it always has been but the food was to die for!! Especially game off the meat trolley.

Had a deal at the hotel which included a meal at The Strathearn. Great menu choices and never seen a bread trolley ! Everything we chose was delicious. The service was superb. Breakfast is probably the best of any hotel we have stayed in.

It’s not just the furnishings that have been upgraded here, but everything else has been taken up a level too. We always enjoyed the theatre of dining in the Strathearn, and accepted that the food was not necessarily absolutely top-notch. However, on this occasion the service and food more than matched the outstanding surroundings. Breakfast too had been a bit under-whelming in recent visits, but was superb on this one. My one quibble is with nomenclature: can Gleneagles *really* mean to call the food service area “the scullery”?! Surely “pantry” or something else more appropriate than the name of a place used for doing the dirty, back-kitchen jobs?

The restaurant is a gem in itself. Gleneagles is so far the best golf resort in the world and strathearn adds perfect value to it. We enjoyed a fabulous dinner and I had the best chateaubrian of my life cooked to perfection. Staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Big recommendations to try.

The breakfast buffet at the Strathearn is a meal that sets you up for the day you name it and more than likely they will have it there is also an al-cart menu you can chose from, the food is cooked to perfection and tasty. The only minus point was being charged for the two and a half year olds.

We stayed over at the hotel on a Sunday and had dinner within the restaurant. The hotel staff were fantastic (Blake deserves special recognition - thank you!), and our room was well equipped, clean and comfortable. The hotel is located centrally so it’s easy for access to local amenities. The food in the restaurant was excellent and great value. The place was buzzing so we were so lucky to have booked in advance. The locals clearly enjoy the restaurant and made for a wonderful atmosphere. I highly recommend this place to anyone for meals, drinks and stays.

The location, the restaurant, the staff and the food are all excellent. My partner and I had a truly wonderful Sunday lunch and each dish (cheese souffle, John Dory and blueberry pana cotta) worthy of 10 out of 10. scores. My only concern is that the 25% increase in the price may deter future customers.
