Terrible service apart from the waitress who took our order. We felt invisible as the staff walked past though we had clearly finished our first course and drinks. I eventually went to the bar to ask for service which was still ignored. We decided to leave without desserts and more drinks. Very disappointed overall as I used to visit regularly years ago was great place. The food was okay but tiny portion of vegetable.

This is a traditional pub that seems very popular. It has its own brewery on site that you can visit for £11 pp including tasting. We just had lunch. There’s an extensive menu of typical pub fare as well as some more interesting dishes. The rare beef sandwich on very fresh brown bread was very well filled and was served with chunky chips. The ciabatta toasties were very satisfying too. The person who ordered duck pâté as a lighter meal found that there was enough pâté to warrant more than a couple of small pieces of bread and when more was requested it was provided. Everyone’s side salad was a bit sad as the mixed leaves were past their best.

This is our third visit in three weeks for Sunday lunch, we have been to so many places locally and not been impressed. The value for money, amount you get and taste hits all three ,it’s always piping hot and tastes great, competent staff and always with a smile if you have not been here please give it a try you will not be disappointed

My partner found a long human head hair in her food, and had to send the meal back and reorder something else. This meant we were out of sync with our meals, obviously as a couple you want to eat at the same time. Her original meal was slow cooked pork, but the fat was not rendered which made it inedible also ( not to mention the hair). At some point another couple arrived with a dog at the next table. There is no mention of allowing dogs in the dining area on the website or at the time of booking. Be up front with people and let them make their own decision on whether they are happy with this or not. The value of the meals was good, but the quality and taste is nothing special. On paying the bill, no mention of the hair was made by the staff (yes they knew) and no offer of a reduction in the bill or free drinks (soda water and a coke) was made. We will not be back.

When booking we asked if they could offer gluten free options. They asked “how gluten free?” Erm… gluten free is gluten free! It was explained that 2 people attending had Coeliacs Disease. We were informed at the time of booking that the fryer used for gluten free was out of action. Upon ordering gluten free braising steak we were told it was unavailable. Second choice was a gluten free beef burger only to be told 10 minutes later that the patty wasn’t gluten free! The chicken burger was offered as an alternative. When the chicken burger arrived it looked delicious. Wrong. The chicken/bacon/cheese was tasteless and the gluten free bread tasted & smelled like pure yeast. We thought having the gluten free chocolate orange brownie would make up for the disappointing main course. Gluten free chocolate brownies ordered. 15 minutes later we were told they were unavailable. I won’t be recommending this restaurant on any of the local Coeliacs websites. If they can’t offer a realistic gluten free menu then they shouldn’t advertise that they can.
