From the moment we arrived for our slot, it seemed that our custom was a bother to the staff here. We were constantly being barked at about how long we had left which made our time there less than comfortable. We were allowed to order drinks (40 quids worth) 20 minutes before our slot ended but were being told we'd have to leave them as the next booking had arrived even though the place was near empty. They'd obviously told the next booking we had their table as they proceeded to glare at us for the ten minutes running up until then end of our slot. We had to down our drinks while the plentiful bar staff stood watching us. Really unpleasant service.

Utterly shocking. Spent 10 minutes ordering through a website with the least user friendly interface I’ve ever seen. 10 minutes later, still without human contact, we were told they’d run out of the dishes we’d ordered. If one person had come to our table, as they did with everyone sitting outside, then we wouldn’t have wasted 20 minutes for nothing. Very pleasant waitress explained this was normal and refunded us the money we’d wasted. Avoid this place.

I visited recently for lunch. I used to come all the time when I lived in Leeds but hadn't been back in over a year. I noticed lots of small flies behind the bar and around the seating area. I've worked in a bar so I know there isn't much you can do about them, but I was surprised about the amount. It seemed like they had been breading for a while. Food was really good. I had the beef and beer stew. Bread is light and not stodgy, stew is well seasoned. But I noticed the price had risen and the portion size decreased. I found this a little disappointing although I cannot fault the food. Overall, a nice place and definitely worth a visit but not as good as it used to be.

Not as good as I was expecting. Specialising in stews, I thought this place was going to be knock out. Unfortunately, whilst my vege lentil stew was pleasant, it was rather blandly spiced. The aromatic rice came out still resembling the plastic microwave packet it had been cooked in and was so salty I didn't want to eat it. The portion overall was small. I think this place is slightly stuck on its own. Not chic enough to bring oyster eating to the unsophisticated, but not good enough at pub grub to fit that bill either.

Came here as was walking past and noticed we could get a table outside. We ended up with 3 sandwiches (and the whole section regarding things like sausage rolls and veggie chilli was not on). The sandwiches were ok, lots of bread with just enough filling. My main issue was the size of the boards they came on - were tiny!! Couldnt really cut it which you needed to as lots of bread and all the filling slid out if you tried to pick it up whole. Please, just put it on a plate. Also (and I know this makes me sound bad) but no chips! Tried to get a side but only do new potatoes. Probably wouldnt go back for food but lovely location for drinks in its beer garden.

I reviewed this place in 2015 but feel it only fair to do so again after 3 years. Saying that, not much has changed ! Still an amazing location where you can sit by the canal and watch the world go by whilst very close to the city centre. The place is the same - very well decorated with interesting features and has a 'homely' feel to it. What grated me last time was the apparent lack of attention to detail of the staff - but this visit was great with very friendly helpful service. Good choice of interesting drinks as well and staff were happy to provide a sample when we weren't sure. Great visit in lovely surroundings. Again though - appreciate we were in a city centre but the pricing was quite above what I would class as reasonable.

I had my eye on coming here for quite a while but it just ended up being disappointing. I rang up around 45 minutes before arriving as I wanted to see if I needed to reserve a table outside as it was a hot day and knew it would be busy. They said if I showed up at 3, I’d definitely be able to get a table. We got there at 3 and it was rammed, no tables and loads of people stood up, so we had to sit inside where it was dark instead. Firstly, they’d run out of oysters, massive shame. There is a very small and poor choice of non alcoholic drinks, ended up with a boring coke. I ordered the beer stew as they’d run out of meatballs. The beer stew was just average normal stew, the presentation was ok however it just did not work. They give you a block of flakey bread which just creates a huge mess as it’s just brought out on a small wooden slab. My partner asked for a bread knife which they don’t even have? He had ordered a cheeseboard, which had a piece of plastic in, some of which he swallowed and had lodged in his throat. The member of staff simply offered him a free drink and didn’t let the manager know, whom of which dealt with it more professionally later on. I don’t mind loud music normally but when you’re sat having lunch and trying to have a conversation, it’s difficult, it was unnecessarily loud in there. Very very let down by this place.

Stew and Oyster in Boston Spa is excellent, but this one in Leeds is very disappointing. Real ale served in a hot glass straight from the washing machine. Three or four quick pulls of the pump and beer glass plonked on the bar, no care taken or waiting for the beer to settle. No chance of a top up of the fuzzy mess of so called beer without asking. Better training needed for the rude staff. Rubbish really, I won't be back as there is plenty of choice of pubs in the area that care about the quality of beer and some semblance of respect for the customer.

I've worked in hospitality management for the better part of 10 years, so I understand how things are from both sides of the bar and as such, it’s rare (if ever!) that I have a bad review to give (as I know just how much work it can be).I’ve always loved The Stew & Oyster at Calls Landing; the staff have always been really friendly (even when rushed off their feet), the foods always been great & on time, and the place has always had a relaxed atmosphere to it.Since I had a friend coming up to Leeds to visit for the day, I decided to take them for a drink here. I knew they’d love it too, and thought it would be the perfect spot since the weather was nice and it was a little after lunch time, so I knew our chances of getting a seat would be good. When we got there, it looked like the lunch time rush had just finished as quite a few tables had yet to be cleared, which is understandable with how busy it can get and that obviously wasn’t an issue to us. What I did take issue with was the guy that served us. At first he was fine, asked us what he could get for us etc... but after we had the cheek to ask a question about some other drink options, that’s when things seemed to change and he got annoyed. My friend then politely asked while he was getting my drink, if he could also grab her choice since it was the same as mine (just a different flavour but in the same fridge) to save him backtracking afterwards, and he begrudgingly grabbed it without saying a word. He then went on to bang and slam behind the bar for a bit with our drinks, asked us if we wanted ice in our glasses and I said yes please but my friend said not in mine thank you. Since we were both having the same drink in the same type of glass it wouldn’t have mattered really anyway, but we’d clearly offended him even more somehow, enough for him to snap at my friend and say “Well which one is that supposed to be”. He then finished off his outstanding service by slamming our bottles and glasses on the counter, amazingly without managing to break them (despite his best efforts) and then growled the price at us.Now I know this really isn’t the worst service anyone’s ever had and I would usually chalk it up to someone having a hard day or being a bit stressed due to a store being busy. However as I said before, we got there when things had quietened down a lot, so much so that instead of getting all the tables that needed clearing sorted, this guy was chatting and joking around at bar with no other customer waiting to be served.I could understand more if my friend or I had been rude to him at all, but even then it’s no excuse for bad manners or to make a customer feel unwelcome. It really tarnished my friends experience and upset them, as they were really worried about what they could have said or done to offend this guy so much. Instead of sticking around for the rest of the evening as we had originally planned, my friend didn’t feel comfortable going to the bar for another drink if that guy was still serving, so we decided to leave a lot earlier than planned to try somewhere else.I don’t know his name, but the guy was the only one not wearing black, short dark hair with facial hair, probably about 5ft 7/8. I found out just before leaving from someone else in the bar that he was apparently the manager for the shift, which makes his attitude towards customers even worse. Again, I know this isn’t the world’s worst customer service experience and probably seems like a really petty thing to complain about, but if this guy hadn’t reacted in such an unnecessary way, then I probably wouldn’t have to complain about something as unnecessary in the first place. Hopefully this guy isn’t an example of the new standard for customer service for The Stew & Oyster; otherwise it will lose a lot more custom. Unfortunately I don’t think I will be coming back again.

Came here with my family as they're dog friendly (kudos for that!) After sitting down, deciding what to eat, I went to order and was told that they didn't have any bread for the sandwiches or sausage rolls, which constitute about a quarter of their menu. I could have understood if we'd arrived late at night but we were there at noon when they opened! What was funny is that they served the cheese/meat boards with bread so why couldn't they have offered to use that bread instead of their usual sandwich bread? My partner had one of the stews, which was apparently pretty good but the boards were average. I really wanted to like this place as there aren't many dog friendly places to eat but they just weren't prepared at all. I'd suggest coming here for drinks and the view instead.

Came here today with my wife and daughter, the pub is in an excellent location and I shall definitely be returning in the hotter weather to make use of the beer garden. The decor on entering was lovely however it gets a bit odd around the corner with the plastic chairs and painted tables. The bar is well stocked with a huge choice of beer and spirits, and of bar snacks. The menu is excellent, we opted for the lamb stew and the beef and beer stew. Seldom have I eaten a Stew and been able to taste EVERY ingredient. It had carrots, baby opinions, mushroom, bacon, thyme, rosemary and of course beef. I could taste it all!!! The portion size was spot on and with a nice pint of ale serves in a proper tankard. I shall be recommending and returning!

The one I'm meaning is on the water! Concise, interesting menu; vast drinks selection; oysters with odd, quirky toppings. Loved this bar!!

I have not eaten here but popped in late one evening around halloween, the staff are lovely polite , very knowledgeable of the ales and extensive spirits, they are dog friendly and I have to say the menu lookd brilliant for a small pub, there is a beer garden which in summer time I is great to sit in and while the afternoon away in, there is live music during the summer outside there as well.Really worth a visit.

Weekday lunch, which meant it was quiet. Loads of decent beer, just like the rest of their establishments and for the first time I ate their. Had the tagine with spiced lamb and chick pea which was really rather nice. The visit has definitely prompted a revisit at the weekend = to see what it is like when busier and I can drink more!

Bit grubby, warm wine & in need of a refurb really. We used to go a lot when it opened but it needs some money spending on it so we don't go so often these days. It's handy for a quick drink before dining in Oakwood. The stews are awful which is a shame when stews are part of the brand. We have tied a few & they are tasteless best avoided.

Went in for dinner with my partner last week, the food in stew & oyster never disappoints! We had the ploughman's cheese board, sausage rolls and stew & dumplings- all were delicious!! The new furniture & lights outside have given the place a great little facelift & made it even more inviting than before! One of our favourite local bars in south Leeds!

The waitress who served me accidentally opened the wrong bottle of prosecco. A little later we saw her on her way out. We said we sympathised with her position not least because my daughter had nearly done the same thing at another restaurant . She was on her way to buy a replacement with her own money. I tried to talk to the manager who could NOT care less. I STRONGLY SUSPECT THEY ARE ACTING ILLEGALLY. AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE. I hope the waitress who was close to tears at the time is ok. A really nasty culture there!

Asked arround and the general consensus of opinion was to try the Stew and Oyster Calls Landing as a change from the usual generic establishments in Leeds..Glad we did, great atmosphere with a real tangible buzz, combined with attentive staff and management who were more than happy to suggest drinks to compliment each menu option including the devine oysters...!Will definetly be going again and only regret not living closer...Highly recommended

Just sat on the river this establishment is a hidden little gem! An incredible selection of cask ales and "craft" beer and all mainly local! There was around 20 different gin's to choose from too! As the name suggests they sell stews and oysters. The oysters are sat on a little ice fridge next to the bar and are fresh and delicious. You get half a dozen for £12.50. They also had about 15 different stews to choose from, piping hot with thick crust bread. The staff are all fantastic. Best bar in Leeds!

Slowly turning into a bit of a regular here... It's a great place to visit for a small bite, warm meal or to taste some of the great beer selection. Pub quiz every Monday at 8 is always great fun, free entry with a chance of winning £40 bar tab is a bonus! Food is incredible, I'm slowly working my way though the menu and have to say I am struggling to choose a favourite. The food is great value too. Staff are top notch too, always on hand to help and recommend a beer or stew.

I walk past this place every day and the fairy lights in the beer garden overlooking the river have always made me want to go. The interior was decorated lovely, giving the place a cosy, quirky feel which we all loved. Everything in there was very reasonably priced with the stews only around £6.50 and soft drinks were even refillable! Two of the people we were with were vegetarian and there were nice options to accommodate them. The food was also extremely tasty and filling, will definitely be visiting again!

I booked this place for a gathering with friends, having read good reviews and briefly checking out the place myself, and it exceeded our expectations. Everyone in our group was impressed with the quality of the service and food, the place was kind enough to accommodate to some of our odd requirements (bringing our own candles) and without being asked to they provided us with a big area just to ourselves separated by a curtain, even though when booking I never asked for any additional privacy. The staff were incredibly friendly and we all enjoyed our food, which we thought was very reasonably priced. The atmosphere was brilliant too - even towards the end of our own gathering, when the place became busier, it never reached a point of being too crowded, too loud or generally uncomfortable for a casual gathering that we wanted. I'd love to come back again!

Stew & Oyster brings a different take to pub food. Instead of a huge menu which couldn't possibly be cooked fresh, they have a menu of about 9 or 10 very different stews, all served in a crock with a large hunk of bread on the side. There's a blackboard with suggestions of beers and wines to go with each of these. They were offering 3 thirds (of a pint) for £3.90 when we were there - ideal for real ale lovers. Their mulled cider was gorgeous. My only criticism is that some of their seating is a bit low to try and eat food but we solved that by eating off our laps.

We frequent the Stew & Oyster at Calls Landing fairly regularly and are always impressed by the quality and value on offer. My favourite dish is the mini Cumberland sausages with mashed potato which is the ideal portion size for lunch and coming in at around £3 represents fantastic value.Great atmosphere, quiet at lunch and more lively in the evening with a large outdoor area for those warmer evenings!

My boyfriend and I have visited the stew and oyster on many occasions over the past couple of years. It has always been consistently amazing and is our favourite place to take visiting relatives / friends. We have tried most of the stews on the menu (which is constantly updated with a new selection) and they have all been tasty. The lamb hot pot and bacon gnocchi are best in our opinion. It is very reasonably priced and you can get a stew and drink for around £10. It has a cosy atmosphere with dim lighting and good music (that is quiet enough so you can still have a conversation). Last week I went with my mum and boyfriend. The food was amazing however something had broken down in the kitchen and it was obvious that the two girls were completely swamped with complaining customers etc. Our pudding and coffee didn't quite go as planned (wrong order / cold) and we were given a refund. However I just want to say that the girl who was serving us did a great job. It was clearly one of those days where everything had gone wrong, (no fault of hers) and she kept it together when most would have crumbled. She couldn't apologize enough and acted completely professionally. This was obviously a one off bad day and it has always been perfect on other visits. We had a lovely time and will definitely keep returning.

I've always been attracted to pubs placed in odd nooks and having odd names. I'm yet to be seriously disappointed. This is a great place on the river, especially if you bag the two tables they have on the balcony. Not in the restaurant but in a balcony for two overlooking the Aire. The place itself is very cozy and the girls are exceptionally genial and competent. They have a pretty good library with a selection readable for someone with decent taste.Being a Dark and Bitter man the Ale selection wasn't very suitable for me. The place is not very cheap (Theakston's pint at £3.30), but reasonable considering the location and the food. The food is unmatched. A stew is a stew and not a garden of herbs. Well cooked, perfectly spiced, liberal portions served the right way. Come a bit early, some chairs are less comfy than others.

The food was very average. There was nothing unique or special about the food. The service was substandard. I would definitely avoid this place.
