Cora in Leeds

This place is gone, it was only a matter of time - They should have dealt with the staff better and also used some sort of business sense.

I feel very lucky having been able to book a table the final weekend before Cora closed. An absolute loss to the area - delicious and innovative food for a reasonable price and with great staff and service! You will be missed.

Well, thought I would see what all the fuss was about, turns out to be a big fat nothing. Whilst the reviews seem to be gushing in every aspect they were clearly not written by anyone with a love of food. Rest assured any experienced food critic would not be so impressed with its pretentious and over enthusiastic staff who are so ready to extol the virtues of a very lack lustre menu. This pretender to the throne takes the cheapest ingredients it can source to maximise its profits and instead of elevating them to amazing heights its offerings are mediocre at best. Uncooked asparagus, bread counted as a course in their underwhelming tasting menu and all at a price to make your eyes water. The chef has clearly delusions of grandeur that his or her talent is unable to attain. The cost of a very unsatisfactory meal here for two is around the two hundred pounds mark, add their wine paring and that's another hundred. Why on earth you would allow these people to pair wine when they cannot even put flavour into food is beyond me. Besides extremely cheap dishes served with such fanfare you might be forgiven for thinking you have entered a two star Michelin restaurant, that is where the similarities end. Come on people this is very much the emperors new clothes, stop being a sheep and see this sad overated rip off for exactly what it is!!!

The food and atmosphere here are amazing, and we had a lovely evening. Each course was unique and tasty, and the selection of wines is great. The staff are friendly and attentive without being overbearing, and knowledgeable about the food and wine. Would definitely like to visit again!

Came to Boston Spa to visit our daughter, popped into Cora as we had seen in the window that they were doing 2 glasses of wine for £6. We had a glass of red and one of white both of them were so tasty, and we had some snacks (delicious olives, nuts, antipasto and cheese). The staff were very friendly and made us feel at home straight away, the two girls were lovely to chat to. Wanted to stay for dinner but unfortunately we already had plans. We will definitely be coming in for a meal the next time we visit!!

Another excellent meal at Cora. The usual perfect attention to detail - staff always so friendly too. In addition the new dishes on the menu were absolutely delicious! Thankyou

Best restaurant in the world!! Booked in for dinner after hearing great reviews from friends of this restaurant - and boy, did it live up to expectation! We were greeted warmly despite the restaurant being busy - the small team was very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us. Our waitress suggested we go for the 9 course menu with a wine pairing each and it was great for us because we couldn't decide between all the delicious sounding dishes on the menu. Every single plate of food we were served was, for lack of a better word, mind blowing. The timing between dishes was impressive given how busy they were, the flavour of each dish was clearly thought out and worked really well with the wines we were given. We're already booked in again for next month and we'll be recommending this restaurant to anyone who will listen!

We were tempted by the 9 course tasting menu. I decided against because we’d waited 20 minutes to have a drinks order taken. It was the correct decision! We still spent nearly £200 on dinner for two with one of us only having two drinks. I don’t mind paying this kind of money for quality… but this was very mediocre and criminally over-priced. 1. Service very slow. At these prices it should be flawless 2. Cheap ingredients. Bread isn’t a course! Then mackerel and pork belly. These are cheap cuts aimed at maximising profit. I wouldn’t mind but the pork belly was dry (almost impossible to get pork belly wrong. Clearly pre-prepared and heated back up) 3. Bland food. Nothing inspiring at all about the expensive menu. Some of the courses were bland and lacking flavour. Out of six courses only one stood out 4. Tiny portions. The steak tartare and dauphinois potatoes were bordering laughably small Overall we felt the restaurant to be hugely overrated. £200 should be a memorable, excellent meal. It is… for the wrong reasons. Sorry people. Despite your staff being friendly and likeable this just isn’t good enough

We really enjoyed the February nine course tasting menu - we had a vegetarian meal as well and we both agreed the food was excellent and better and more varied than on previous visits. That being said the food is usually of a very good standard, really great for a local restaurant. We also enjoyed the wine pairing - overall a great local experience for us. The restaurant is let down by the service which is a little slow and not attentive. 4+ hours for the tasting menu was a little too long, there were longer gaps than we would have liked between courses - probably OK if a large group, but noticeable if a couple. We also had to ask a couple of times for water and for glasses to be cleared away, and sometimes even then water was not provided or glasses removed. The staff don’t really seem that bothered which is a shame as this could be a real local gem. We went on a Saturday and the atmosphere was buzzy which we enjoyed. Mid week visits can lack atmosphere as tables spaced out and quite minimalist decor. Dress warmly as restaurant can be quite cold.

This was my third visit to Cora……and that should say enough! The quality of food is excellent, and it’s a reasonable price. We had the six course tasting menu with wine flight. We enjoyed them all. We had emailed ahead as I don’t like seafood, and they were more than happy to accommodate me, I had a veggie option instead. The service was great. We weren’t rushed and could stop on for a drink after the meal. I’m really surprised about the number of two star reviews, I love this place. I think the food is always really tasty, and the prices aren’t extortionate. We will definitely be back to try another menu!

We tried Cora with our family back in October. The experience was really not nice. The wine was lovely, however, food was just ok (not worth the price). Couple of us ordered French onion soup, which tasted off. We complained to the server (I think this French woman is the manager) and not only she sounded offended about our comment, she then basically said we are wrong and this is their most popular dish. She didn’t apologise and then the rest of the evening didn’t speak to two people who complained. The rest of the food was ok, but nothing special for the price you have to pay.

We enjoyed our visit for lunch with some interesting dishes presented in a stylish way fitting with the overall ambiance. If you're thinking of going, do its well worth the visit. Seasonal food with interesting techniques on show. The friendly relaxed style of service was comforting and welcoming but occasionally resulted in micro errors, like food arriving before drinks or 3 of the 4 of us being served and the other left waiting. This sort of gig shouldn't really have these minor hospitality misses while pricing like a city venue. That isn't saying it was over priced as the menu had several flexible approaches and the whole experience felt value at well under £90 a head including a few good bottles from the cellar and aperitifs. Overall this is a great addition to Boston Spa's foodie offering which I will happily recommend. One thing to note, its a card only place so if you're tipping out of the races after a win you cant spend the paper money here.

Cora saved us as we had previously booked a restaurant in Leeds only to find it had closed. We had been previously and had enjoyed the food but found it over-salted. On this occasion, we found the menu to be delicious, innovative and of incredible value. The staff were really friendly and helpful. Boston spa is very well placed and has free parking with easy access to Cora. There are comments made on review about poor comparisons to other tasting menus. In my opinion, this is totally unjustified. At £77 a head what was produced was fantastic and it is impossible to compare it to a menu that costs £250 a head. Cora's chef is to be commended for producing just brilliant food at such an amazing price.

For all the years of travelling into Leeds or York for great food and wine pairings, we decided to try something closer to home. We opted for the Friday fish night with accompanied wine pairings, we were not disappointed. The service is excellent, greated with quality service from entering the dining hall to settling the bill. Every dish and wine explained in detail and tasting notes of wines (including a fantastic Icelandic IPA!) discussed. With any pairings you always have the potential of a dish or accompanied drink that isn't quite your thing, however we were impressed with every one. What was great was the ability and request for feedback as the chef tailors the menu on a weekly basis, chefs even visited the table to discuss the menu which was fantastic. We have eaten in many fine restaurants across the globe and this is not always the case!. From a price standing, you are getting quality fresh ingredients with exceptional wines so this is reflected in costs. Will definitely be returning, keep up the good work Cora
