Excellent carvery and good value for money. Presentation could be better especially the gravy bar it was very thick the day we went. Please note that this Toby Carvery closed down on the 4th February 2017 and is to being converted into a steak restaurant.

Booked a table for 2 at 2.30pm on a Sunday. Just managed to find a parking space. We were shown to our table immediately but we didn't like it as it was close to the main door and was not very warm. We were told no other tables were available so we decided to keep it rather than leave. We ordered drinks then went to the carvery. This was very busy with a long queue and it was 15 minutes until we reached the front. On the plus side the food was being regularly replenished and so not standing around long. The meal was very good - choice of four meats and lots of veg. Would go again only if we could be guaranteed a better table.

We called in for lunch on Wednesday after visiting the Peak District Park. it's a few years since our first visit to parkhead for a Carvery meal and it's unlikely for us to call again after today's experience. We arrived and waited to be seated which took around 8-10 minutes although we were the only ones waiting and not many people in. We ordered Prawn Cocktail for our starters which took 15 minutes to arrive. On our travels in the UK we have eaten in numerous Toby Carveries and it's common knowledge for customers to be allowed to have their Yorkshire pudding served before your meat and veg but on this occasion the server dropped his shoulders when we asked, and made us wait, and was far from sociable. On returning for our roast and veg his demeanour had not changed. The main meal, I choice Beef which was of poor quality with a vein of gristle and by trying to carve thin slices he ended up making small bits not very presentable. The vegetables were tasty and a good selection. But the service and friendliness was very Poor.On this occasion we cannot recommend Parkhead Carvery.

Went for breakfast this am. Told they only had fried eggs on the buffet as the lorry delivering the scrambled eggs was just being unloaded. I suggested they could scramble some of the eggs they planned to fry....they told me they didn't have time to do this. I can't blame the hard-pressed staff for this. I would blame the corporate bosses. Bit it did leave me wondering what else had been boiled in the bag....Note the breakfast cost does not include drinks - an extra £2 for a bottomless hot drink. Another 50

The toby carvery is a lovely pub! We visited on a tuesday lunch time and it was very quiet. The fire was on and the staff were also warm and welcoming. We ordered our food and drink and went up to get our food. The vegetables were slightly dry but there was a good selection. I had a kingside carvery and ordered gammon. Gammon is my favourite meat and have worked in a carvery before and know how it should be. It was slightly dry and a little rich with its flavouring. Overall good food at a great cost!

We've not been here for years and as we were passing after a walk in the hills decided to have a carvery. It was quiet as it was midweek but the service was very good, the waiter very friendly and we were able to eat straightaway. The meats were very nice and probably we'd arrived an hour late for the veg to be fresh (as it was being replenished as we were there)The highlight is definitely the treacle sponge pudding and the fudge cake you could get for a £1 extra on the £6.99 carvery - the fudge cake was lovely and not a small portion and my husband said the same for the treacle pudding.

Came on a Sunday and had to wait 45 mins for a table, then it was about another 30 mins waiting in line for a carvery. You seem to get much less meat on a Sunday than in you come in the week and the food wasnt very warm either. Additionally as soon as our knife and fork went down on the plate they were asking "do you want the bill"? Much better if you come in the week especially as its two courses for £6.99. On a sunday its a tenner for the carvery alone.

Yum! Not as good as your mums Sunday roast but not far off for the price! Double up and go king size if you can handle it! But the regular size is big enough for me. It was very busy when we visited and we had to wait for a table. Once we were finally seated we opted for carvery meals and a vegetarian one. There was a massive queue to get to the carvery. When we got to the front of the queue we saw the chef flicking the area and waiting people with small bits of meat as he 'enthusiastically' carved. Not very pleasant for anyone let alone a vegetarian. Also when we were at the front of the queue we saw people serving themselves with vegetables. The spoons touched the meat and then went back into the serving dishes leaving all the veg contaminated with meat and the same also happened with the gravy where the ladle was returned to which ever pot the customer fancied! This left our vegetarian unable to have any potatoes, veg or gravy and she left very hungry. It would be much more veggie/vegan friendly if these meals were served at the table with portions of vegetables. The carvery meat meals were quite nice and the meat was nicely cooked and not dry. I don't think we would visit again though because it's not fair on our vegetarian, who would actually refuse to eat there again.Service was quite slow and we had to search for a server to ask for the bill.

After visiting here recently I was sorely disappointed with the customer service that my friends and I received. Upon arrival breakfast is to be paid for at the bar before been seated. After waiting at the bar for around ten minutes with no sign of any staff to serve us we decided to take a seat. Upon finding a table a member of staff was then immediately beside us telling us we needed to pay first. We explained the situation and was told by the member of staff that was not her problem and she was on her own!! We were completely taken aback. Our whole experience with regards to customer service was that of a very poor standard. The restaurant was not particularly busy. I will not be rushing to go back.

We usually visit at peak times on a Saturday and have to wait for a table but this does not normally take too long. They have a menu which would meet the requirements of most who decide to visit. Very friendly staff and the service attentive. Generally we elect to eat the carvery and have never been disappointed. The only downside is the available parking which consists of a small flat level car park at the side of the building and a larger steep winding one at the rear which is shared with the local cricket club.

We have been up to our local Toby Carvery many times and have always enjoyed our carvery meals there. The roasted meats are splendid and there are always plenty of freshly-cooked vegetables. At a separate self-service station there are three different gravies and various sauces to choose from. At £6.49 for a plateful of simple deliciousness, you really cannot go wrong. Beverages are also very reasonably priced in Toby Carveries. The serving staff are always courteous and helpful even when they are being run off their feet.It is disappointing that Mitchells and Butlers, who oversee the Toby Carvery chain, decided some months ago to do away with individual pub names. In our case what was once "The Wheatsheaf" is now just "Toby Carvery". It is as if a name with local significance has been ditched in favour of a homogeneous corporate image and this has been happening all around the country.Nonetheless, you cannot beat Toby Carveries for value and dependability. We will definitely be back.

We went up and got the carvery the food was nice and the meat although a little fatty was cooked perfect. We were given an extra bowl for veg for our little one to have some food with us to and our waiter Lewis was attentive and pleasant throughout our meal he was even nice enough to get my refillable drink whilst I got my carvery. The bill at the end was incorrect however this was quickly solved with no disagreements and apologies and we were on our way. Three of us arrived for Saturday lunch. We all had the carvery. The vegetables were surprisingly well cooked considering they are done in bulk. The turkey and pork looked succulent, but the beef and the gammon looked overdone and dry. However, for what you pay, you can't complain. Service was friendly and reasonably prompt until the end when we had to wait ages to pay the bill. During that time we looked closer at it and found we'd been overcharged for one of our drinks. This was corrected but no explanation given. The establishment was clean and tidy. If you're hungry and want a cheap and reasonably quick meal in a comfortable environment, I'd recommend.

We went for carvery lunch on a wet and windy day. The restaurant was busy but we were quickly served drinks and seated in the bar while we waited for a table. We only had to wait 10 minutes before we were shown to a table. All very good so far. However, we soon realised that we had been given a very poor table - it was close to the main door and was very cold, with a strong, cold draught every time the main door opened. We asked our waitress if we could move to a better located table - there were several available that I could see. Unfortunately the waitress was most unhelpful, saying that she could not move us as 'the tables are allocated by the reception staff'. We ate our meals quickly and left without having the dessert and coffee that we would otherwise have had.On the plus side, the carvery was very good and the drinks reasonably priced. Sunday 1st November, in the UK this is usually dull and cold, however today was like summer, and the rest of the world had also decided to go to the Toby Carvery for Sunday lunch. Many years ago I vowed never, ever again would I set foot inside a Toby Carvery. I'm glad we decided to go however, as although very busy, the staff were helpful and polite, the place was clean, and the food surprisingly good. A choice of Beef, Turkey, Pork and Gammon (or a little of each) plus the usual veg and potato selection. The veg wasn't overcooked, the roast potatoes were crispy and the Yorkshire puddings made in house. The chef / carver, (I didn't get his name, young Black lad), deserves a medal for being friendly and cheerful whilst under extreme pressure with a constant long queue of people eager to be served. All in all, a very pleasant place to eat. The car park is only small, but there's plenty of local free street parking.Glad to say that Toby really seem to have got their act together. The food was amazing and the staff were so friendly and helpful. Myself (vegan) and 3 friends (2 vegetarians and one meat eater) came for food and were shocked by the vegetarian and vegan options! I had the Wellington and it was perfect. There was even a vegan dessert! Unlimited drinks are also great and the food and drink are very reasonably priced. It's just a shame you are so far away from the city centre as I would visit more if this was the case.

Let's be honest from the outset. This isn't going to be high class, restaurant level haute cuisine at the prices charged, (Toby don't make that claim), but what you do get is good, filling, tasty pub grub.Look around at what you get at a few other pubs / pub chains for £6 meal wise, especially on the south side of the city? For prices in this range, (or even higher prices), in other pubs I've had poor quality, 'baked' potatoes, cooked by the microwave chef; tiny, dried out beef burger meals bulked out by more lettuce leaves than a rabbit could stomach or fish, chips & peas, which turned out to be a piece of fish the size of a gold fish, 14 peas, served on a piece of slate with 5 chunky chips, served in a tiny zinc bucket! At the Toby Carvery on the other hand, the food actually looked like it did on the menu. For £5.99 you get the standard carvery, which is ample enough, especially when you add your veg in. A couple of us went for the king-sized option, where you get a bigger plate for an extra £1.50. This gets you extra an extra Yorkshire, sausages on top of the usualy choice of 4 meats. I particularly enjoyed the honey & mustard glazed gammon, very tasty. For a filling carvery for £5.99 or the additional £1.50 for extras, you can't go wrong.

If you want to know why people in the UK are turning into the USA then pop in here for Sunday lunch. I have never seen oversized plates as big as these before, and boy do people fill them. Incredible value for money, 8 quid for 4 types of meat, 4 veggies, Yorkies, gravies, etc, but with almost zero taste whatsoever. The chicken was very dry and almost powdery, all of the Veggies were overcooked and the gravy was just awful. We are definitely in the minority here as almost all of the customers were tucking into their nosh with gusto and overall I didn't here 1 complaint. Sad, very sad.

The food was good, but if you don't want a carvery look at other places as there is very little alternative on the menu.Nothing wrong with carvery and Toby is the place to go if you want one, although personally I prefer the Elmwood as there variety of veg is much betterService was excellent and free refills on soft drinks was a bonusFour types of meat on offer tonight, each one cooked well. The veg were ok but nothing special as the roast potatoes needed another 15 minutes in the ovenIn summary if you want a nice carvery you won't be disappointed if you don't, you will

Arrived at the time clearly stated on their own website to be told by a 'server' with absolutely no customer service skills we were early as they didn't open for another half an hour! two chefs(!!) then rolled their eyes while tucking into their lunch (presumably purchased elsewhere!) as we made our way to a table to wait! Eventually we were told the carvery was open, we were met at the carvery by what can only be described as poor quality cuts of meat that had been left from the previous nights carvery and been reheated up to a tepid temperature! On the plus side the vegetables were fresh and appetising but again were tepid rather than hot. Didn't have a dessert or coffee as none were offered, so no comment to be made. We left the table with dirty plates still in front of us. No complaint was made at the time as we guests of someone. All I can say is, if this is the best on the market for a Sunday lunch experience then I'll go to Sainsburys and buy my own joint of meat and cook it myself in future!

You usually can't go wrong with Toby Carvery but my last visit to Park head was dreadful. The restaurant did not seem to be particularly busy however we had to wait at least ten minutes for a member of staff to seat us. The restaurant was very messy and almost all of the free tables were covered in used napkins and pieces of food! The food was also pretty dire...soggy Yorkshire puddings, cold veg and watery gravy. Despite not seeming to be overly busy it took staff so long to bring our drinks we were over half way through our meals before we received our drinks All in all I was very disappointed by my latest visit and will not be going again!

I visited Toby Carvery Pub, Park Head with some friends on 14th August 2015. The food was of a very high standard. All the staff were very polite and the service given was excellent. We was given a table which overlooked the Cricket Ground, beautiful view! What I also liked was that the Staff brought the drinks to our table. Have found that other establishments, the staff ask you to purchase your drinks from the bar yourself. Which then you are waiting a while if its very busy. Toby Carvery is very spacious and comfortable for eating a meal. There is no loud music in the background, you are able to talk and feel comfy and your friends can hear you. I would visit again. In fact I have made a booking today for Friday 21 April. It is my parents Golden Wedding Anniversary and my Mum as said she would like to go to Toby Carvery for another meal, due to her and myself both enjoying the meals on the previous ocassion. So I have reserved a table for three people! Same table too, overlooking the lovely cricket ground.I would recommend this Establishment to my Friends and Relatives. It is also very reasonable in price and you certainly feel you have had a very good meal.

We were staying for a week in Chesterfield Travel Lodge and when we asked the duty Manager there where he recommended for a nice meal he told us about Toby Carvery on the way into Sheffield from ChesterfieldWe just wish we had found it earlier during our stay as even though the place was very busy we were seated and our meal soon followedThe selection of 4 different meats served with lovely huge tasty Yorkshire Puddings a huge choice of veg that you could helpm yourself toPriced at £8.95 per person becaus it was Sunday our meal was fantastic value and we will make a point of always when possible go to Toby Carvery again even nearer to our home area of Thetford All week the same meal is served for only £6.99 per person and again excellent value in this day and age Thank you Toby Carvery we will recommend you to all our friendsWhen are you going to open a carvery nearer to Thetford in either Norwich or Bury St Edmunds will do nicely :-)

It's been a while since I last visited a toby carvery after my last visit to one in Dronfield. This time I went to the one in sheffield near whirlow. On arrival was greeted by a member of staff and 20 min wait.Am fine with that as it's Sunday and was busy. After our short wait shown to a table and asked if we were having a carvery and if so then go straight up.Todays choice of meat pork gammon turkey and beef.I had pork and beef and was given the toby standard thinly sliced cut of both meats with helping yourself to vegetables yet again I find myself complaining about the hard vegetables and the lack of meat you get for your money. Now I've said this before there are far better places that do carvery better than a toby whilst the venue I went to today was nice staff friendly as carverys go I don't think it's value for money. So this will be the last time now I will visit a toby carvery home of the roast it is not.

Seven family members tried this carvery on a Sunday. It was packed! You cannot book a table, instead you turn up and give your details and wait for a table. We waited 20 minutes. The bar only had 2 staff, who were apologising as 2 others had not turned up to work. There was almost a 20 minute wait at the bar for drinks as a result.Seated at an untidied table due to staff shortages also. Tidied it ourselves. Two meats and about 12 vegetables is the norm in the queues for food. Various vegy options including gravy. You can pay £1.50 extra for chipolata sausages, extra Yorkshire pud and extra meat. I did!!Meat beautifully cooked, veg choice superb as was sauces and gravies. With a drink each and food, total bill was £89 for all of us. Good value.

Having recently had a rather poor experience of a carvery in Wigan, it was nice to go to a carvery that did everything right. We arrived late on a Sunday night and were seated quickly and our drinks orders taken. We then when up to the carvery and had to wait whilst they freshened up the serving dishes which, given the lateness of the hour, was very nice of them. Options such as gluten-free gravy was available as was advice on which dishes needed to be avoided for food allergies. On return to the table, our drinks were waiting for us and the food was very nice indeed.I shall definitely return when I am next in Sheffield.

Arrived expecting their usual cuts of meat, but was disappointed to find the turkey gone by the time our turn in the queue came up...they should offer to do bigger portions of their meats especially on lovely , sunny days when larger crowds are expected! There was delay with the wait staff , who very nicely apologised to us...but were left eating the veg fare :(

This is the first really bad meal I have had here which is a shame as it is usually very good. The service was first class but the food was a let down. The Yorkshire Pudding was hard and crispy. Most of the veg was dried and looked as though it had been stood. The carrots and roast potatoes were in short supply. The mashed potatoes were just warm. The gravy was very weak and thin. One bright spot was the Beef and Turkey which were excellentA reduction off the bill was offered but this should not be necessary if the job was done properly.Maybe as the place was empty the food turnover was not great enough to keep the food fresh. It is a shame as I like this Toby and have used it regularly.

This place is nice for a Sunday lunch, nothing outstanding nothing disappointing - just a great cheap Sunday dinner. It gets VERY busy on Sundays - to the point where you will not get a table or have to wait an age. The food is good, the meat is nicely cooked and portion sizes are good. The veg lacks a little attention on the odd occasions, such as roast butternut squash with the skin left on which under the heat lamps becomes tough and bitter. The bread sauce is pretty grim, with the resemblance of porridge but on the other hand the gravies available are lovely, the roasties second to none and the veg is lovely and freshFor every pro I could name a con so I am sticking with the 'Average' review - a standard Carvery with standard food for standard people

Very nice Sunday lunch, the beef was very good, the Yorkshire puddings were excellent, the vegetables have been better but they were ok, the mustard gravy was lovely and the horse radish finished it off perfectly. The only complaint would be that because it was busy we got put in the back room and that has not been refurbished like the rest of the restaurant which looks lovely, its a shame because it wasn't a very big room and wouldn't have taken much to do it but apart from that it was very good.

I know Toby Carvery offers a cheap carvery but we were disappointed with our experience. We visited midweek and the place was quiet. I enquired if it was possible to order a 'small plate' carvery but this was refused. We were served by a miserable carver who barely spoke to his customers and was clearly not happy with his job.Our biggest disappointment though was that the food was luke warm/cold. After telling the waitress our meal was not hot she did bring a dish with some hot potatoes in to replace our cold ones. I guess food turnover was slow as the restaurant was so quiet.Would not visit this Toby again if in the area.

Like most of these places it can get busy at times but a midweek evening is generally less so. We've been several times and the food is always good, the vegetables fresh and unlike some, hot!Afterwards the front of the carvery doubles up as a pub, Pub quizzes, friendly patrons and staff - if you fancy a roast in friendly surroundings head to Bents Green!

Waiter gave us a menu and explained the process for ordering etc very promptly. Young lady behind the coffee bar took my order nicely and asked me to wait for the coffee for me to take to our table. No problem with that. However, whilst waiting, the initial girl and the other girl barista chatted very loudly, no rush to make my drinks. They were discussing a story between them and we're swearing f***ING loudly and persistently in front of me and other customers . Unaware this is not a great experience.

We heard that the Angel Inn had re-opened under new management, and that the pub had been given a make-over and were now doing really good food - so we thought we would go and check it out! We went along mid-afternoon on Thursday 25th January, 2024, the place is very clean, warm and welcoming, a nice, cosy and relaxed atmosphere. Louise the manager, who we took-to immediately, is so enthusiastic and passionate about running a good pub. They have a wide range of drinks and the menu although limited at present, is set to be extended, and they do Sunday lunch. The chef, an ex-army chef but with lots of civilian experience in restaurants too, is also passionate about providing great, home-made food. We very much liked the look of things, so we booked for Sunday lunch - we went along on Sunday 28th January - the food did not disappoint! We had a choice of beef, pork or chicken, or we could have some of each. The plate came out with the meat, Yorkshire pudding, mashed potatoes, roast potatoes, along with it came a large dish of vegetable and a gravy boat. As promised, everything was home-made, cooked from scratch and as we expected, totally delicious! Then came dessert, we all had treacle sponge with custard, but there was a choice of jam sponge, apple crumble or cheese-cake, - home made, and it too was delicious!, and all at a reasonable price - well worth it! We will be back - but we are also going to go along mid-week and check out their menu offers - they are going to be getting wine and drinks offers too - what more could you want! 👍😁.
