An amazingly good meal . Everything just beautiful . Go , go , go ! Unfortunately , we couldn't stay as the bedrooms were fully booked , but I hope we can come back another time . We loved the meal , the wine pairing and the staff . One of the best meals we have had.

Small and cosy tea room where we enjoyed the most beautiful family afternoon tea. Just a lovely way to end our weeks stay in North Yorkshire. The bread for the sandwiches was so soft, tea was served with free top ups and scones freshly made from the oven and warm to eat. Cakes were beautiful too and there was more than enough for all 6 of us to enjoy. Ages ranged from 10-44yrs and enjoyed by all. If you like a bit of nostalgia and like afternoon tea, this is the place to go. We would highly recommend The Middleton Tea Rooms.

The reason why we came to Helmsley was because we had eaten at the Rattle Owl in York when Tom Heywood was the head chef there. We had the misfortune of returning there after he had left and it was not even close to the original experience. It was our 25 wedding anniversary and the night previously we had the taster menu at the Star Inn at Harome. We chose the wine pairing with some trepidation as we have often experienced unfortunate pairings which Sommeliers’ have tried to convince us are a match with some course or other and yet seemed totally arbitrary. I am delighted to report that for the first time in my experience of high end eateries I could actually ‘taste’ the connection between each of the courses and the accompanying drink. I say ‘drink’ because it wasn’t always conventional wine in fact we had a coffee/chocolatey stout accompanying the bread course (both delicious) , an local Solaris sparkling white wine from Dunesforde Vineyard, Yorkshire with the trout (I didn’t believe it was possible but a fantastic wine) and an orange wine from the US with the scallop dish perfectly complementing the food. If I haven’t gone on about the food it’s only because I was expecting it to be world class and it was. Every course perfectly presented and singing with flavour. The was a mushroom mousse course on the menu and coincidently also on the menu at the Star Inn - there was no comparison. The Pignut mousse melted in the mouth as it should sadly the Star Inn’s version was stodgy and forgettable. Every course was light, succulent and tasty. Service was very attentive without being overbearing and Lauissa explained the ethos and the journey for her and Tom. In short unbeatable.

The Bay Horse is a truly outstanding place for a meal. Although a little out of the way, it's well worth a visit. Not only is the food thoroughly delicious but the service was exemplary. Altogether an outstanding pub/restaurant and I highly recommend it!

We visited this little gem of a local restaurant for Sunday lunch today, having been recommended several times. The menu had a good selection for all three courses, but we gave the starters a miss in favour of desserts. Our main courses were delicious and beautifully presented……chicken supreme with Yorkshire Pudding, roasties and side dishes and my veggie pasta dish was so light and tasty. We were pleased we had left room for dessert…..sticky toffee pudding and gooseberry meringue, both really yummy!! Excellent and smiley, friendly service too from Karen the owner and her team of waitresses. We live locally and we are only sorry it’s taken us so long to visit…..we will certainly be back and soon.

Be aware there is no mobile phone signal. The Cross Keys is a small village pub which provides accommodation, with the pleasantly decorated rooms in a separate building. Fresh milk was provided on arrival for a much needed cup of tea. Food is served in the pub every night which is good news for those walking the Yorkshire Wolds Way.After a good night’s sleep and breakfast, I collected my pack-up lunch and left Thixendale having been made welcome by Steve and Mary throughout my stay. It was great value too.

We had Doms Kitchen for our wedding food and oh my, the food was incredible. Dom and Emma make everything from start to finish so easy. With my wife’s family from Ireland and mine from Whitby, Dom was incredible in creating a menu which captured both our families backgrounds. Every guest at the venue told us how incredible the food was. Would highly recommend and it was the best decision we ever made.

A canine cuddle cafe is the sort of place one would expect to find in the trendier parts of London which is why it was such a surprise to come across this little gem in Malton. That said, Malton has been awarded the title 'dog friendliest town in the UK.' We just love this cafe where several different breeds of happy dogs (which all belong to the cafe owner) are available for endless cuddles. The cuddles are accompanied by a variety of teas, coffees and home baking. Thalia, the owner, informed us that the venue and a selection of doggies can be hired for children's parties. Apparently an alcohol licence can be obtained for grown up parties. A visit to Malton would not be complete without a visit to Mixmups. We highly recommend. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

The service, the food, all good, but not great. The scallop starter with black pudding was delicious, the main course of Belly Pork was mediocre and the cheese course with two pieces of cheese was less than impressive. With wine, peroni and a glass of whiskey the bill of £175.00 for two people was far too excessive for what was on offer. We have dined in Michelin star for far less and this place just didn’t hit the spot for the cost.
