Brandysnap bistro is a jewel in the crown of all restaurants. It is unique in its menu and outstanding in its quality. Adam and Claire are incredible hosts who make us feel so special every time we eat here. The bistro is worth every five star it receives. If there were 10 stars to give, we would give it. We are so lucky to have Brandysnap in our village.

I have to rate this restaurant a full 5 stars more if I could. For me it’s faultless. The food is some of the best I’ve ever tasted. And the presentation is out of this world, add to this the fabulous atmosphere .And a great host in Adam plus Claire’s fabulous cooking what more can I say! I’ve already booked again.

Four of us were staying in Thornton this week and had the pleasure of eating at Brandysnap Bistro. Wonderful food and drink enjoyed by all and a great host in Adam - thoroughly recommended.

You will not find any food or service that can start to compare with Brandysnap Bistro. Excellent in every way. Thank you Adam, Claire and staff for making our Golden Wedding such a special occasion.

Simply the best - a cosy, spotlessly clean, warm and welcoming bistro. Claire and Adam make a fantastic team. The welcome is so warm and genuine, attention to detail is spot on, and of course, the food is to die for! Exquisite cuisine. As a rule, we never have 3 courses, but the menu is so lovely and varied, that we went the whole hog, and had starter, main, dessert - and fudge and brandy snaps! Everything was excellent, but can especially recommend the cheese souffle (the stuff of dreams!) and the duck my husband had was the best he has ever tasted. Quite simply perfection from start to finish, we didn't want the evening to end. Thank you Claire and Adam, we'll be back.

Excellent restaurant in the beautiful village of Thornton-le-Dale. Staff very attentive and food outstanding. Our table looked out on to a beautiful garden. No wonder this little gem is booked for weeks ahead. We'll definitely be returning.

What a lovely restaurant. The owner and waitress were so welcoming and friendly. We’d found this by accident and following reviews decided to give it a try. So glad we did. Our meal was excellent for start to finish. All aspects cooked to perfection and piping hot which is something I appreciate. Huge compliments to the chef Varied menu so something for every taste. Very reasonably priced for the quality of food and service and environment If we are ever back in the area we will definitely come again.

Simply stunning food. We visited while staying in Thornton le Dale on holiday and we were very lucky to get a table. All the food we had was beautifully cooked and presented. There’s a lovely atmosphere in the restaurant which must be a source of pride for its owners. A very rare gem, go there if you’re in the area!

What a fabulous little restaurant. So pleased we read the reviews here on TripAdvisor! We weren’t disappointed, a lovely meal in a very homely environment. Staff were courteous and made us feel welcome and relaxed. All the food was delicious and when my coffee came, we were all treated to fudge and brandy snaps. We will definitely return when we are next in Yorkshire.

An excellent bistro, service and food superb. It was my wife's birthday, a simple touch of a card and decorations on the table enhanced our very enjoyable evening. This was our third visit to the Brandysnap bistro and it did not disappoint! Adam and Claire are fabulous hosts and the lovely waitress (sorry we didn’t catch your name) is fantastic! As soon as you walk through the door you are greeted warmly by Adam and he takes the time to have a chat with you while you browse the menu and have a drink in the bar area. The menu is always fantastic and I always struggle to decide what I want (all delicious)! The food, as always, was out of this world! The lamb is to die for!! Myself and my dad had vegetables with our dishes and did not manage to finish all of it. When Adam came to clear the plates he remembered that we had mentioned our dog is on a strict diet currently and is eating veg as a snack. He asked if we would like to take the veg home for Nell the dog which was such a lovely touch! 10/10 as always and cannot wait to return to this lovely little bistro. Dined at the Brandysnap Bistro last night for the first time and it will definitely not be the last time! What a wonderful discovery; a warm & welcoming host greeted us on arrival to this small but intimate bistro with a lovely ambience. The food was beyond perfect and so beautifully cooked and presented. We were very happy with our choices from the lovely and varied menu. We enjoyed everything about the place and have already made two future bookings. The only downside is that the Bistro is fully booked so far in advance but that is what happens when everything is so very very good.

We are new to the village and are so lucky to have this lovely restaurant on our doorstep. Our first visit this week is definitely the first of many. Adam is an excellent host and Claire is an expert chef. The atmosphere is welcoming and intimate. It feels so comfortable, it was hard to leave at the end of the evening. It was a birthday celebration and my husband was thrilled to find a lovely birthday card waiting for him when we sat at our table. The soufflé starter was beautiful. We had the beef and lamb main courses which were sublime. Vegetables were perfectly cooked and the sauces so rich and tasty. I really shouldn't have had a sweet but couldn't resist! The tipsy brandy snap was off the scale and I polished it all off!! We can't wait to return to sample more of the menu. We'll book early and advise everyone to do the same. Brandy Snap is one not to be missed.

Worth the wait! We booked our table back in February as we were advised to book early! Well it was definitely worth the wait, the food was absolutely amazing. Cheese soufflé, Stilton and mushroom rarebit and Duck rillette were enjoyed by all. Followed by the tastiest Lamb and beef dishes with vegetables cooked al dente, just as we like them. A bottle of red and a bottle of rose accompanied the food along with some very tasty desserts. Great food and service, we will be back.

We don't eat out very often but the Brandysnap is our go-to for a special occasion.Our latest visit was a reminder why we return.I can't eat any dish with onions but Claire and Adam offer me a wide range of dishes they can prepare without them and I order my meal in advance to make life easier.We took some friends there a few days ago and we all agreed that we had been treated like royalty and well-fed.Everyone marvelled at the double-baked cheese and chive soufle and I will see if I can negotiate one without chives ahead of my next visit as I feel like I should try that.Because the restaurant is small, just two rooms with a bar in the middle it is almost like dining at home. In fact we have on occasion had the exclusive use of the back room .Just like throwing a dinner party without any cooking or washing up.We will return in a few weeks and look forward to it.

Brandysnaps Bistro keeps on delivering the warmest welcome with friendly and impeccable service, and the most delicious food. Our starters of pear with walnut and roquefort salad ,followed by pheasant with mushroom and tarragon, and pork with ginger and apricot had subtlety of flavours and faultless cooking-perfection on a plate.Home made icecreams and prune and almond tart rounded off a fantastic meal. There is nothing negative to say about this gem of a restaurant.

We visited here on our anniversary purely by accident! (We'd left it too late in the day to book a nice place to eat and after ringing round several restaurants that were fully booked, we came across the brandysnap who had just had a table for two cancel!) The decor is simple and probably about 8-10 tables in total. You are definitely given their attention and each meal is made to order. Nothing is rushed and it's a very laid back atmosphere. When we arrived, we were shown to a small seating area near the bar, were given the days menu and specials and offered drinks. They dont rush you and allow you to take your time choosing. Shortly after ordering, you are taken to your table along with a few freshly baked dinner rolls and butter.What can I say about the food? Amazing. Everything tastes so fresh! Everything is homemade and because there are so few tables, all meals can be give attention to detail. (If you get a chance, the cheese and chive souffle is to die for!) All their icecream is made there using their own hens eggs, along with their signature brandy snap baskets...This was a proper foodie experience. Do not expect "fast food". The wait for freshly made dishes is part of the experience and is so so worth it! You will not be disappointed....(As a side note, even if you haven't got room for it, dont leave without trying the prune and armagnac icecream ;)

Perfect food, extremely friendly service from Adem and a cosy setting. It was easy to see why booking is essential. We were already full but just had to have one of the scrummy home made puddings. A very good decision!

This bistro is fantastic. The food is amazing thanks to Claire and Adam is superb front of house. It covers vegetarians and others dietary needs. The only negative... it is so fab you must book. Who can complain at that?

We go every year, I wish it was nearer home as we would be there every week. We have eaten in many restaurants but never had the service and the consistent food quality as this lovely place. Adam and Claire should be extremely proud of there Bistro. Looking forward to our next visit x x x

We have dined here with family members aged 19 to 80+ on several occasions and have never been less than completely satisfied with the food, service and ambience. We just keep coming back and recommending Brandy Snap to all of our friends. The menu is inventive and satisfying and strikes a great balance between old favourites and new and exciting tastes. The food is fresh and as local as it is possible to get. My wife is a Coeliac and is always given a wide choice from the menu with any adjustments to suit her requirements. Adam handles the front of house and is an outstanding host with his knowledge of food, local activities and exciting stories of Scotland. I would highly recommend that you give it a try but be warned you will keep coming back!

This is a family run bistro on the road heading out of Thornton towards Whitby. It did amazing and different food in a cosy setting for very good value - the wine selection was also great. We will be back.

This little place is a real hidden gem in a traditional Yorkshire village. If you want something really special, this is the place. Adam and Claire run the bistro with Claire being the chef and Adam running the front of house. The quality of the food that Claire produces from her little kitchen, really is amazing, which is equally balanced by Adam’s attention to detail front of house.

Nice to end the holiday with a treat and this was a lovely evening. The menu was varied and interesting, and every dish was cooked to perfection. We felt very welcome with friendly and efficient service. A lovely couple run this restaurant and have successfully created a "special" place to visit.

Beautiful little bistro - just perfect

Our eldest daughter has lived in North Yorkshire since the early 1990's and we visit regularly. We had a caravan for a number of years and whilst staying locally some years ago we found the Brandysnap Bistro. We have been back several times over the last five years and this year, despite the fact that we had to drive from the middle of York, we made the effort and once again were not dissappointed. The welcome, the food and the general ambience are exactly right and a credit to Adam and Claire. We look forward to our next visit and highly recomend this 'jewel of the North' to anyone who enjoys fine dining at a sensible price.

After spending a week in Thornton Le Dale, we booked Brandysnap for our last meal out before heading home. The idea was that after reading great reviews, we thought this would be the icing on the cake of what was already a wonderful break.

Once again we visited the Brandysnap Bistro and once again we had an excellent meal. The service and the food are exemplary. Everything cooked to perfection.

Visited the Bistro following recommendations from various people. Had friends visiting so thought this was the perfect excuse. We certainly weren’t disappointed; the food is first class, the setting idyllic and the service friendly and efficient. We went to Brandysnap to celebrate my mum and dad’s wedding anniversary. The table was decorated with love hearts and there was a small card on the table from the Bistro staff, which was very thoughtful. The food was extremely good, in particular the cheese and chive soufflé, the lamb, and the homemade ice cream.

Its very rare to find a restaurant that ticks all the boxes. Brandysnap is this place. I cant believe we've been visiting Thornton for over 10 years and we've just found Brandysnap. Lovely, cosy, bistro. Plenty of choice on both the food and wine menu's. We were told to reserve a table but when we arrived we were the only one's in the whole restaurant which was nice - but with the exceptional food I suspect this wouldn't happen often.

We visited for the first time with four friends who have dined here in the past and highly recommended this restaurant. It’s quite small but very welcoming and warm with a lovely intimate atmosphere. The table for 8 in the rear room just about filled it. Adam was an impeccable host and nothing was too much trouble for him. The menu isn’t extensive but everything was cooked to perfection, delicious and beautifully presented. Although it’s quite a drive for us, we’ll certainly be back.

Every year around my birthday myself and my partner make sure we make an annual trip to Thornton Le Dale for the weekend, and of course for a meal at Brandysnap. Since discovering this place 5 years ago, we are still overwhelmed by how much we enjoy visiting this cute little bistro and the quality of food and service that we receive. The food is exquisite every time and we always each order 3 courses. We particularly enjoy the cheese soufflé which is one of the best we have eaten, and the pork and lamb dishes, and not forgetting the sticky toffee pudding dessert - all freshly home made!! This is our 3rd visit over the past 3 years and the standard has remained the same. We were made to feel welcome and the ambience was excellent. My advice book early as the amount of tables is limited to avoid disappointment. The food is of a high standard and very “tasty” our only comment would be a warmer main course please. The cheese soufflé was to die for!

On arrival you are greeted with warmth and sincerity by Adam, who clearly enjoys his front of house role and is a delight to talk to. Every effort is made to make you feel comfortable and in this instance my partner was offered an additional cushion as she had a painful back. Nothing is too much trouble.

Comida fabulosa anoche. Bien vale la pena el viaje de ida a 161 kilómetros. Me encantó la opción en el menú, pero elegimos desde las ofertas especiales. Tuve vieiras y cangrejo king para comenzar gratinado, seguido por el cordero. Mi marido tenía queso de cabra y ensalada de remolacha, luego 2 manera de cerdo con puré de mostaza. Compartimos el pastel de jengibre, pera y helado casero, ya que ambos estaban tan llenos pero no pude resistir. El servicio era excelente, así como la experiencia en el Brandysnap Bistro. Sin duda no pasará mucho antes de que nos visite de nuevo!

Entrantes langostinos croquetas sabrosas y encantador de Islandia. Campo principal de la junta especiales - Carne Strogonoff y pato Grassington mama - comida excelente y generoso para repetir de verduras (con el pato). También por cualquier dulces. 65 libras y buena relación calidad-precio teniendo en cuenta la comida de alta calidad y servicio.

Recently ate at Brandysnaps again. Very warm and pleasant welcome by Adam who was very helpful when deciding on which wine to choose (2 very sizeable tasters were presented). Couldn't fault any of the courses - food was so tasty and beautifully presented. (The double baked souffle is delicious - we chose the cheese one). This visit we were seated in the back room and there is plenty of room around the tables so that you're not sitting on top of the other guests. Our only complaint - we were visiting the area from saturday to wednesday so were only able to eat here on Wednesday! We've learnt our lesson for next time.

Visited for a meal to celebrate my husband's birthday and what a fantastic choice. An excellent, varied selection available for each course plus specials that cater for all tastes. Every dish was made with the finest of ingredients, cooked to perfection with care and attention down to the very last detail and absolutely delicious. This accompanied by a lovely ambience and high quality service just added to the occasion. The little extras including the mini brandy snaps and fudge served with coffee are what makes this bistro stand out above the rest. Congratulations Adam and Claire on what can only be described as an absolute foodie's delight.

Saw to our every need and food was well made and presented. Pigeon was the nicest my partner has tasted and scallops beautifully cooked. Nice portions. Steak and blue cheese sauce was gorgeous ! Chicken too. Spoke to the owner and chef late who was lovely. They have an ordinary menu, gluten free and veggie one too. Quite clear he loves cooking. Can't recommend enough. Would definitely return. Thanks guys.

This is a rare place these days, somewhere that is small and friendly; where the people have time to talk to you and explain the menu and the food. We had bream and steak for our main courses, both were heavenly. Then the home made ice cream was to die for. We will be coming back. Note booking is essential.
