The Dawnay Arms in Ryedale

Looking for a Sunday roast on the way home from Filey, after a few visits to several pubs and swift exits, we finally came across the Dawnay Arms. Only just seen the sign whilst driving home, and we were absolutely starving at this point. We pulled in to a quiet and tranquil road. The pub is nice and spacious and most importantly accepts four legged friends. Very freindly welcome from all those encountered. Two Sunday roasts!....well one and a vegetarian option. The beef was cooked to perfection and I honestly cannot remember a Sunday lunch as good. The accompanying vegetables, stuffing, roast potatoes and yorkshires were fantastic. Only disappointment here, is there's no room left for dessert!

A nice warm little pub. Looks like they’ve been going through a refurbishment. Menu was confusing. Waitress was on her own, run ragged, serving behind the bar and waitressing. Food took nearly an hour to wait for. We all had burger and chips. Our burgers were nice but chips were overcooked.

We’ve eaten here twice over the last month and both times the food has been great. We’ve had a Sunday lunch and an evening meal. The portions are very generous and everything is well cooked. My only slight complaint is that it’s not the warmest pub. Only one of the fires were lit when we were in and the table nearest the lit fire was unfortunately already taken. We will definitely be back though.

Food is absolutely amazing. Couldnt fault it one bit. Staff are amazing and polite. Would highly recomend to anyone after a bit of food or even just drink as its a nice bar to just sit and have a drink in also.

How sad to hear of the closure. We really enjoyed our overnight stay in August and were looking forward to returning. Everything exceeded our expectations...the room, staff, food and entertainment. Many thanks to Simon and all the staff, Scott Wardell and Bladerunner for a fantastic day and night

Sorry to see this pub shut for good, was a great country pub.

Exceptional food I had the gammon for main and apple pie which was on the special desert menu. Staff were lovely too will definitely be going back.

Saw the sign for the Dawnay Arms on the A64 on way back from visiting a local golf shop with my husband. Decided to give it a try, what a gem the food was excellent, fantastic menu choice. Great atmosphere and very friendly hosts. Will be more than happy to visit the local golf shop again in future if followed by a stop off at the Dawnay Arms, would definitely recommend

Wow, what a little gem! We booked this last minute for 2 and our dog, and we were blown away. The food was incredible, proper pub grub, a proper portion size! Hearty and warming, staff where lovely and attentive. Just about to ring to book a table for tonight! Highly recommend, the food was excellent. We had scampi & chips and a classic burger, nothing classic about the burger it was more like an ultimate deluxe burger, it was amazing!!

Dropped in on the off chance of some supper as I hadn't booked. Terrific food and speedy service, topped of with a cracking pint of Theakstons.

Great little find, food was delicious and staff were so welcoming. Plys could take the dog in, perfect.

We met another couple for Dinner that was unplanned. Great service from the hosts and the food was excellent.

Sunday lunch was beautiful. Lots of different choice of potato & veg. We had the trio of meats. Brilliant service with a smile. Food came to us lovely & hot. We also had a starter of the chicken goujons which was also very nice. Will definitely be returning 🙂

We booked to stay here overnight and we will definitely be coming back again. Simon was a great host and was very accommodating, even when we were delayed and arrived late. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We were treated to a fu English breakfast the next morning, which was absolutely delicious. Great location, great room, great food and great service 👍

Called in for dinner as staying just down the road at Wolds Way (phoned to make a reservation beforehand). Really impressed with the whole ambience. Lovely welcome and service (extra drinks brought to the table, no need to go to the bar). Food was generous in potions, beautifully presented and was fresh and tasty. The meal and drinks were excellent value for money. We will definitely return when next in the area.

Big thanks to the staff at dawnay they looked after us brilliantly nothing could of been better. Great beer, food and company and the sandwiches you left for us to pick up was a real treat on a tough last day of the wolds. Many thanks we will certainly call again. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Excellent one night stay. Our room was lovely, spotlessly clean and obviously recently refurbished. Food, absolutely wonderful, huge portions of freshly prepared local produce. The staff are friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for them. Will definitely stay again.

Great pub in a pretty village, a great find after a day's walking in the Yorkshire Wolds. We liked it so much we came back 3 times, twice for excellent food (large portions too). Very friendly staff too. Has two rooms as well apparently (but we needed 4) but their description sounded good too.

WOW WOW WOW, this is truly the first place to make me want to try everything on the menu. The setting is beautiful, gorgeous views and a truly amazing pub with some amazing features. The food is all prepared and made in house, NOTHING is bought in. I opted for the Sunday roast and both my wife and I can confidently say this was the best roast dinner we have had from a pub. Even though we where full after finishing our dinners we opted to be greedy pigs and get a desert. We ordered the rum and raisen cheesecake. Again all made in house and not bought in. What can I say.... Again truly amazing. This pub is most certainly a leader of others and what country pubs should be about. Non of this chain lark, all proper home cooked meals, beautiful setting and the staff where as good as the food and setting. Happy, pleasant, couldn't do enough for you. Prices where no more expensive then any other pub. We have scrapped the idea of cooking for the rest of our holiday and we are going back daily to try the menu. Don't miss out on this gem and go try it for yourself.

Wow we called for Sunday lunch on the off chance and wasn't disappointed it was absolutely amazing! Yorkshire pudding was huge and all the veg was lovely and fresh, will definitely be back.

Welcoming and a good ambience. Plenty of variety on the menu, something for everyone. They were happy to exchange an item on the dish. Friendly waitress, chatty but not intrusive. We were not rushed and felt we could stay at our table as long as we wanted. Excellent food and good Yorkshire portions. Hope to return.

This place is not wheelchair accessible. Inside is up stairs as is outside. Even if you can make it up the few steps to the outdoor seating, it is then over very hilly grass. Over all very disappointing for anyone in a wheelchair.

Visited the pub for lunch lovely Sunday afternoon with my husband and young. We sat outside in the glorious beer garden which had lovely views, an idyllic setting. First thing that struck me about this place from past experience with some small village pubs is 'outsiders' are often made to feel uncomfortable by the locals. Totally the opposite here, the locals were very friendly and greeted us with a hello when we walked in and the barman went above and beyond to give us the warmest of welcomes. My son had one of the speciality burgers, my husband the steak pie and I had a prawn sandwich and chips. All of which was just delicious but oh my........those chips!!! My boys have high standards on the homemade chip front and judged these chips as 'best ever'!!! The pie was equally as good and the sour dough which was homemade was amazing!! I ordered a side of chips......unfortunately not so good for me as never got to try many of them, the boys ate there's and most of mine!!!! What I did sample was superb!!! The barman checked we were enjoying the food and the chef (who I later found out was the landlord also) came out to check all was OK. Isn't that just nice? This is a genuine place, friendly staff and it is apparent the food is made using high quality ingredients which are cooked to perfection. Will defo return at some point, my son asked if we could return the following day but unfortunately we were heading in a different direction. P.s no photos I'm afraid the food didn't hang around long enough!!

Food is amazing freshly cooked and very tasty. Proper Yorkshire portions with extra gravy if required. Fresh local produce and you can tell, 5 very different meals every single one thoroughly enjoyed. Lots of care and attention to checking dietary requirements and allergies. Very reasonable pricing and really hospitable. Definitely one to recommend and return to

We were walking the Wolds Way, and after a long day walking, we found the Dawnay Alms very welcoming. Beer was great, Beer Garden was just perfect for that post walk beer. We were lucky to stay on Pie Night as the pies were excellent. All staff were very welcoming, and we very much enjoyed the stay

Lunch today was fantastic. The staff excellent. Price aok 👍👍 Lovely lady who served us we assumed she was the landlord. What a great person. We will definitely be back and maybe staying the next time.

Excellent Inn in a quiet village location. Rustic but clean and comfortable interior serving value for money pub classics and specials. Sunday lunches are very very good also. Good selection of desserts, beers and alcoholic drinks. Dog friendly with pleasant friendly staff. Book to avoid disappointment as it is very busy, especially early evening, you’ll not be disappointed.

Very tasty food in a great atmosphere! Portions are large and prices aren't, so it's a great combination! Staff are ways polite, attentive and friendly. This pub is a great place to visit at any time of year. They have a varied menu with a good range of specials too.

Fabulous place that we found completely by accident as we travelled from Manchester to Scarborough. Friendly a d welcoming atmosphere, but quiet enough to have a lovely bite to eat. The food and service were excellent. The ki d of place that makes you feel looked after, without being all over you. The staff have got the balance right. The prices were good too!

Great meal here this evening. We hadn’t booked and were a group of 7 (3 kids and 4 adults) but we were still able to eat here. I think booking would be a good idea, especially at weekends. The food was fresh and tasted great. There was something for everyone on the menu, including desserts. I’d definitely recommend this place and if we are back in the area would visit again.

We called in at the Dawnay Arms whilst on holiday in the area and what a wonderful surprise. After 50 years of pub meals this is one of the best we have ever had. The meat was succulent and the variety of veg on the plate was amazing and tasteful, not just the usual spoon full of frozen peas. I have a large appetite and there was more than enough for me. The friendly service was second to none and all at a very, very reasonable price. We will definitely call again when in the area.

Had a Sunday roast here. The staff were efficient and locals and staff were really friendly. The beer was well kept. The service was good and the vegetables plentiful with a huge Yorkshire pudding. Lovely gravy too. After a long walk, this was most welcoming

Superb B&B; Comfy Beds, Large Rooms & Delicious Cooked Breakfast!

Everything perfect from start to finish. The meal was truly delicious and the staff and service was so friendly. Beautiful building in lovely village. Would highly recommend.

Enjoyable lunch of Yorkshire burger with blue cheese and homemade chunky chips and scampi served with the same chips and peas for my partner. Substantial portions and extensive menu; also a very friendly chap seating and serving us. Attractive village on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds that can be approached via delightful back roads, or busy A64. Will visit again.

A very nice small Inn in a little friendly village. The room is very spacious, bright and clean. Everything is new and spotless. The staff is very friendly and helpful and competent. This is a pearl away from the trouble of the coast. I can only recommend it. The Inn itself is small but comfortable and you feel welcome you when you enter.
