Visited on the spur of the moment and we weren't disappointed. Great welcome, good atmosphere even with few clientele and food was of excellent standard. Would definitely recommend a visit for a drink, food or both.

Great friendly pub in a lovely location. Called for a quick beer and the new bar staff under training pulled a great pint and was very friendly. Keep it up guys

We booked Sunday lunch for myself and my husband at the last minute. I had read previous reviews about how wonderful this place is so I thought we’d give it a try. We did not regret it, we had roast lamb and all the trimming. The lamb was beautifully cooked, still slightly pink in the middle which we lovely, thick slices of meat, roast potatoes, cauliflower cheese, red cabbage and savoy cabbage, roasted carrots and a beautiful Yorkshire pudding! The gravy was beautiful and there was mint sauce. We only had one course because we were full but, the puds and starters looked gorgeous. We had half a pint of cider and a pint of their guest beer and I have to say the entire experience was a joy. The two young people who were serving and looking after front of house were attentive, kind and efficient. Well done and thank you, we will be back.

Stayed at the Dawnay Arms for one night while visiting Eden Camp close by. The room was very spacious and nicely decorated. There was bottled water, teas and coffees, even a dolce gusto machine, biscuits and a couple of chocolates which was a lovely welcome. We were shown to the room by Lucy who was so friendly and welcoming. As for the evening meal, this was superb. The food was so tasty and decent portions and well presented. We was advised that there would be a wait for food due to it being busy, however we did not encounter a delay at all !! Again we were served by Lucy and also Sam who were both very efficient, friendly and also with a smile. We would definitely stay here again, just a shame this isn't our local :-)

We had a Saturday evening table booked for 6 of us for 530pm. We arrived to our reserved table on time. Service was fabulous. The drinks and food was amazing. Staff were great at keeping us informed about kitchen delays due to a larger party arriving after us. A few things though - dogs are allowed and can be a bit annoying to hear the odd disagreement between animals as they pass each other. Often wonder if dogs could be tabled in the same area. Another was the fact that we were sat close to the bar and it was early, but, being near the bar, locals do arrive swearing and don't think about children dining in the close proximity. We loved our table location, but maybe next time we'd ask to be slightly further away from the bar so we don't get the bar clientele passing us

Booked a table for dinner, a large group of 14. Service and food was fantastic. We had a private room to ourselves.

We called in after a trip to go ape on the way home, the lady behind the bar was lovely. good selection of drinks too. we only had sandwiches for lunch however you could tell all the ingredients was fresh and the chicken had so much flavour! definitely will visit again

Fantastic Pub for the last night of our holidays had an smashing meal has a pool table and games as well as darts. Would 💯 recommend.

Friendly welcome. Delicious food in a really lovely country pub. Was recommended the chicken parmo which was delicious and the cheesecake was very moreish! We were staying nearby and sad to only be there for one night or we would certainly have been back!!

Having spent half an hour walking around Malton, the so-called 'food capital of Yorkshire', trying to find somewhere to eat, we chanced upon this little gem of a dog-friendly pub on the drive to Filey. We both had the spiced chickpea burger which came with proper thick cut and well-cooked chips, onion rings, homemade coleslaw and salad. The food was delicious and the staff and fellow diners were friendly and welcoming. If we ever find ourselves in the area again, we'll be sure to pay another visit.

We stayed at the Dawnay Arms when we visited a local show. The hotel is situated in a very pretty, sleepy village with very little outside noise. They have ample parking and plenty of inside and outside seating. The staff were so helpful and excelled in their service. The evening menu was delicious, good honest food, cooked and served by superb staff. Their breakfast was first class, and plentiful. The lovely clean and airy room, were so pretty with beautiful views of the village and garden. All the staff were very welcoming and although I only know one of their names , Lucy, they all made us feel welcome . We both enjoyed our stay and would visit and stay again, should we be in the area. Thank you for making us feel so welcome. Kevin and Sue

After waiting a couple of nights for it to be open, the wait was worth while, the food was freshly home cooked I had the venison burger and hubby had pie and mash the service was great definitely worth a visit,

An 80s Night was organised for 20th July this year, from organised promotional poster that was supposed to be submitted around .the manager at the time back in may told me they were still expecting the gig to be going on ,Unfortunately the new manager leanne who was adamant that no 80s night was going on now .this was only a few days notice .she in turn swore and was nasty. Not professional very not a nice person. I seek small compensation through them cancelling. Please be aware

Don't stay here but it's a very nice country pub with a friendly atmosphere food looks very inviting and dog friendly.

Ordered two trio roasts , which were absolutely fantastic great meat and good portion size. Everything homemade and tasted great. Also ordered two desserts a brownie and a cheesecake , this was no ordinary dessert they looked absolutely world class and tasted amazing couldn't recommend the food more will definitely be popping in again. Only criticism is they could do with some background music as was a bit quiet but other than that lovely place.

Excellent country pub. Quiet small village. Stayed one night ,room exceeded expectations. Great beer selection and wine very good quality. Original pub closed last year and Jordan has worked very hard to bring it back. Would highly recommend.

Looking for a Sunday roast on the way home from Filey, after a few visits to several pubs and swift exits, we finally came across the Dawnay Arms. Only just seen the sign whilst driving home, and we were absolutely starving at this point. We pulled in to a quiet and tranquil road. The pub is nice and spacious and most importantly accepts four legged friends. Very freindly welcome from all those encountered. Two Sunday roasts!....well one and a vegetarian option. The beef was cooked to perfection and I honestly cannot remember a Sunday lunch as good. The accompanying vegetables, stuffing, roast potatoes and yorkshires were fantastic. Only disappointment here, is there's no room left for dessert!

Visiting family in the area and went for a meal one Friday night. The pub was quite empty. Small menu, 8 main meal choices. Was told no fish available ( on a Friday!) Chose other options. 3 of us had burgers, should've come with onion rings. When asked where they were, was told no batter left. How hard is it to make batter! 2 of the burgers should've had bacon, no bacon! Asked but no one came back to us. The food we had was lovely but wasnt inclined to stay longer for dessert or more drinks after the lack of concern for our missing items. Went to pay at the bar, wasn't offered a discount for our missing items, had to ask. Was then quieried by the chef/manager ? Who was sat in the. Argued that bacon shouldn't be on the burger!! The barmaid had to get a menu to prove to him. Offered £5 off the bill. Unlikely to go back for food.

A nice warm little pub. Looks like they’ve been going through a refurbishment. Menu was confusing. Waitress was on her own, run ragged, serving behind the bar and waitressing. Food took nearly an hour to wait for. We all had burger and chips. Our burgers were nice but chips were overcooked.

We’ve eaten here twice over the last month and both times the food has been great. We’ve had a Sunday lunch and an evening meal. The portions are very generous and everything is well cooked. My only slight complaint is that it’s not the warmest pub. Only one of the fires were lit when we were in and the table nearest the lit fire was unfortunately already taken. We will definitely be back though.

Food is absolutely amazing. Couldnt fault it one bit. Staff are amazing and polite. Would highly recomend to anyone after a bit of food or even just drink as its a nice bar to just sit and have a drink in also.

How sad to hear of the closure. We really enjoyed our overnight stay in August and were looking forward to returning. Everything exceeded our expectations...the room, staff, food and entertainment. Many thanks to Simon and all the staff, Scott Wardell and Bladerunner for a fantastic day and night

Exceptional food I had the gammon for main and apple pie which was on the special desert menu. Staff were lovely too will definitely be going back.

Saw the sign for the Dawnay Arms on the A64 on way back from visiting a local golf shop with my husband. Decided to give it a try, what a gem the food was excellent, fantastic menu choice. Great atmosphere and very friendly hosts. Will be more than happy to visit the local golf shop again in future if followed by a stop off at the Dawnay Arms, would definitely recommend

Wow, what a little gem! We booked this last minute for 2 and our dog, and we were blown away. The food was incredible, proper pub grub, a proper portion size! Hearty and warming, staff where lovely and attentive. Just about to ring to book a table for tonight! Highly recommend, the food was excellent. We had scampi & chips and a classic burger, nothing classic about the burger it was more like an ultimate deluxe burger, it was amazing!!

Called in for dinner as staying just down the road at Wolds Way (phoned to make a reservation beforehand). Really impressed with the whole ambience. Lovely welcome and service (extra drinks brought to the table, no need to go to the bar). Food was generous in potions, beautifully presented and was fresh and tasty. The meal and drinks were excellent value for money. We will definitely return when next in the area.

We booked to stay here overnight and we will definitely be coming back again. Simon was a great host and was very accommodating, even when we were delayed and arrived late. The room was spacious, beautifully decorated and very comfortable. We were treated to a fu English breakfast the next morning, which was absolutely delicious. Great location, great room, great food and great service 👍

Excellent one night stay. Our room was lovely, spotlessly clean and obviously recently refurbished. Food, absolutely wonderful, huge portions of freshly prepared local produce. The staff are friendly and welcoming, nothing was too much trouble for them. Will definitely stay again.

Great pub in a pretty village, a great find after a day's walking in the Yorkshire Wolds. We liked it so much we came back 3 times, twice for excellent food (large portions too). Very friendly staff too. Has two rooms as well apparently (but we needed 4) but their description sounded good too.

WOW WOW WOW, this is truly the first place to make me want to try everything on the menu. The setting is beautiful, gorgeous views and a truly amazing pub with some amazing features. The food is all prepared and made in house, NOTHING is bought in. I opted for the Sunday roast and both my wife and I can confidently say this was the best roast dinner we have had from a pub. Even though we where full after finishing our dinners we opted to be greedy pigs and get a desert. We ordered the rum and raisen cheesecake. Again all made in house and not bought in. What can I say.... Again truly amazing. This pub is most certainly a leader of others and what country pubs should be about. Non of this chain lark, all proper home cooked meals, beautiful setting and the staff where as good as the food and setting. Happy, pleasant, couldn't do enough for you. Prices where no more expensive then any other pub. We have scrapped the idea of cooking for the rest of our holiday and we are going back daily to try the menu. Don't miss out on this gem and go try it for yourself.

Welcoming and a good ambience. Plenty of variety on the menu, something for everyone. They were happy to exchange an item on the dish. Friendly waitress, chatty but not intrusive. We were not rushed and felt we could stay at our table as long as we wanted. Excellent food and good Yorkshire portions. Hope to return.

This place is not wheelchair accessible. Inside is up stairs as is outside. Even if you can make it up the few steps to the outdoor seating, it is then over very hilly grass. Over all very disappointing for anyone in a wheelchair.

Food is amazing freshly cooked and very tasty. Proper Yorkshire portions with extra gravy if required. Fresh local produce and you can tell, 5 very different meals every single one thoroughly enjoyed. Lots of care and attention to checking dietary requirements and allergies. Very reasonable pricing and really hospitable. Definitely one to recommend and return to

Visited the pub for lunch lovely Sunday afternoon with my husband and young. We sat outside in the glorious beer garden which had lovely views, an idyllic setting. First thing that struck me about this place from past experience with some small village pubs is 'outsiders' are often made to feel uncomfortable by the locals. Totally the opposite here, the locals were very friendly and greeted us with a hello when we walked in and the barman went above and beyond to give us the warmest of welcomes. My son had one of the speciality burgers, my husband the steak pie and I had a prawn sandwich and chips. All of which was just delicious but oh my........those chips!!! My boys have high standards on the homemade chip front and judged these chips as 'best ever'!!! The pie was equally as good and the sour dough which was homemade was amazing!! I ordered a side of chips......unfortunately not so good for me as never got to try many of them, the boys ate there's and most of mine!!!! What I did sample was superb!!! The barman checked we were enjoying the food and the chef (who I later found out was the landlord also) came out to check all was OK. Isn't that just nice? This is a genuine place, friendly staff and it is apparent the food is made using high quality ingredients which are cooked to perfection. Will defo return at some point, my son asked if we could return the following day but unfortunately we were heading in a different direction. P.s no photos I'm afraid the food didn't hang around long enough!!

We were walking the Wolds Way, and after a long day walking, we found the Dawnay Alms very welcoming. Beer was great, Beer Garden was just perfect for that post walk beer. We were lucky to stay on Pie Night as the pies were excellent. All staff were very welcoming, and we very much enjoyed the stay

Lunch today was fantastic. The staff excellent. Price aok 👍👍 Lovely lady who served us we assumed she was the landlord. What a great person. We will definitely be back and maybe staying the next time.

Excellent Inn in a quiet village location. Rustic but clean and comfortable interior serving value for money pub classics and specials. Sunday lunches are very very good also. Good selection of desserts, beers and alcoholic drinks. Dog friendly with pleasant friendly staff. Book to avoid disappointment as it is very busy, especially early evening, you’ll not be disappointed.

Lovely little pub with a great cozy wood fire and friendly staff. Went on a Friday evening where they were doing burger night. They offered gluten free buns and had separate fryers and prep areas to make sure there was no cross-contamination. Staff were knowledgeable...

Wow, the food in this charming pub was absolutely delicious. The pie was hand made with beautiful pastry and great quality chunks of steak. The vegetables were incredibly fresh and perfectly cooked. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the dog was allowed in too....

Very tasty food in a great atmosphere! Portions are large and prices aren't, so it's a great combination! Staff are ways polite, attentive and friendly. This pub is a great place to visit at any time of year. They have a varied menu with a good range of specials too.

Fabulous place that we found completely by accident as we travelled from Manchester to Scarborough. Friendly a d welcoming atmosphere, but quiet enough to have a lovely bite to eat. The food and service were excellent. The ki d of place that makes you feel looked after, without being all over you. The staff have got the balance right. The prices were good too!

Great meal here this evening. We hadn’t booked and were a group of 7 (3 kids and 4 adults) but we were still able to eat here. I think booking would be a good idea, especially at weekends. The food was fresh and tasted great. There was something for everyone on the menu, including desserts. I’d definitely recommend this place and if we are back in the area would visit again.

We called in at the Dawnay Arms whilst on holiday in the area and what a wonderful surprise. After 50 years of pub meals this is one of the best we have ever had. The meat was succulent and the variety of veg on the plate was amazing and tasteful, not just the usual spoon full of frozen peas. I have a large appetite and there was more than enough for me. The friendly service was second to none and all at a very, very reasonable price. We will definitely call again when in the area.

Called in today,late afternoon pub not only open but also serving food at 3.30. We were a group of 3 tired walkers looking for sustinance. Great welcome from staff,good beer and smashing food. Homemade steak pie, proper chips and 5 different vegetables plus gravy. We're not locals but would be regulars if we lived closer. One of the best country pubs in Yorkshire for well priced well cooked food. Big thanks.
