A wonderful social enterprise cafe who employ people with learning and other disabilities. Coffee and cake beautiful, really clean and tidy, lovely staff. I'm guessing the 1 person who ever left a terrible review about this place really didn't understand their ethos. Well done to everyone today, we had a lovely time and will visit again the next time we are in Malton. We will definitely recommend you!

Visiting from Scotland and stopped by mid-morning for coffee and scone on strength of reviews (and reading negative reviews of many others) and weren't disappointed. Here we could still get a coffee for under £3 yet my mocha was spot on. Attentive and efficient service in fresh and clean space. Loved the bee fabric of the blinds.

Called in here today with my 8 week old baby, what an amazing place I loved it. The staff were so so friendly and caring, the food was delicious and the atmosphere was great. My baby got a bit grumpy, but it really wasn’t a problem at all, lots of happy smiles from the staff put me and baby at ease, (we went somewhere last week where this really wasn’t the case so I was nervous taking her to a cafe again.). Such a wonderful place, we’ll be back very soon and I will be spreading the word to everyone as to how great the cafe is!

Just popped over on the train from Scarborough and we stumbled on this place .Mainly because it looked good on the outside . Well it was even better inside .We just had coffee's which were nice . But looking round the other customers were getting stuck in to some really nice food . Just wish we had'nt eaten at the all you can eat at the Royal Scarborough . lol .So next time we will be starving when we come here . The menu ,some would say , is limited however what they do they do well . You can respect that . I so wanted the soup of the day it looked brill .Finally the service throughout was excellent and a visit to the toilets is a nice experience .We will be back lol .

One of the best things about living in Malton is the choice of excellent places to eat. The Kingfisher is our favourite for coffee & cake. The only downside is having to make a choice of what to have. We went on a Saturday morning. Hubby chose coffee cake & I had a cheese scone. Both were delicious. The lemon drizzle cake & brownies also looked fabulous. Reasonably priced, lovely staff & great food. Lucky us living so close.

We have gone into the Kingfisher Café on a few occasions when visiting Malton, where there is no shortage of coffee shops, of course. One of the attractions of this place is the lovely home-made bakes and bread - plus the coffee, which is also of good quality. This café offers training and employment to adults with additional needs, and the support, encouragement and guidance given to these trainees is very heartening - in a world where opportunities for gainful employment of this group are all too limited. The staff are pleasant and there is an unhurried atmosphere in the downstairs area, as well as the upstairs area, where there are sofas, etc. We never hesitate to return, both on account of the snacks on offer, and to support an establishment offering such training opportunities.

Popped into this little cafe in a sloping road off the Market Square as another one in town was full. Pleased I did.I didn't realise this place was part of a charitable community project until someone told me later. It should be applauded for giving people a chance of meaningful employment and social opportunities. The staff are very friendly. I was served by a very polite gentleman who took my order and was able to outline all the cakes and treats available to go with my coffee. Service is highly efficient.Coffee was very decent, nice strength and flavour. The coffee and walnut cake was nicely made (I think I took the last slice - the rest had been snapped up before midday)... everything here is home-made and where possible locally sourced. I like the ethos of the place. Worth trying, worth supporting. Worth giving up a Costa visit or two to experience something different - and help a worthy cause. It's also very reasonably priced. My small coffee and cake was just £3.50.

A fantastic well run cafe, the tables clean and crockery quickly cleared away after customers leave. The cafe nice and relaxing not too crapmed, the tables nicely spaced out. The baking is all home made and everything looked very appealing. I order a Ploughman's lunch and pot of tea. I was first served a platter of two thick slices of warm home made bread and three packs of butter. The bread was delicious worth the visit on it's own, it was hard not to tuck in straight away. The Ploughman's was worth waiting for, plenty of cheese including Stilton, a very flavoursome cheddars and a mild cheese as well. A very nice salad with plenty of tomato, sweet pickle, grapes and home made coleslaw, all this for £5. A nice pot of tea and enough milk for three good cups for £1.50. Superb value and served by friendly helpful staff. I will be back often!

This was a real find as we walked round the streets of Malton. The refreshments were exceptional - lovely scones, generous portions of home-made cake and a very fruity flapjack. I want to echo just how pleasant and welcoming the staff were and why it's so important to support these really worthwhile concerns rather than patronising the high street chains where not only is the coffee more expensive and the profit greater, but there is a distinct lack of authenticity. In addition Kingfisher is more than just a café; there were gifts and books on offer as well. Great place - will definitely visit again.

If you are in Malton you must not miss out on a visit to this very special cafe. It's a lovely, arty and comfortable place with the warmest of welcomes. The food is everything that you could possibly hope for, home made and delicious and very keenly priced. The best toasted home made bread ever. But the highlight for me was the warmth and good humour of the staff. How perfect to see adults with a degree of learning difficulty revelling in taking care of customers, and doing so with such panache. If I lived closer I would visit weekly as my experience was so heartwarming. The pride with which service was handled was a joy to behold. Thank you for a truly great visit.

A lovely place. Homemade food outstanding. Had pea and mint soup and an omelette. All delicious. Bread also excellent. Highly recommended.

Superb find for homemade lunch. Bread how bread should taste - a taste I had forgotten - and generous fillings, delicious soup, cakes very hard to resist. Staff courteous, attentive, helpful, cheerful and, most importantly, enjoying rewarding employment. A great credit to all concerned. Will most certainly return and do highly recommend all to support such a worthwhile enterprise.

This pleasant cafe and gift shop is partly staffed by pleasant people with learning difficulties. The food and coffee are excellent and the atmosphere very friendly. It is clearly popular with the locals and deservedly so!

This was the third time we've been and it was just as good as the other times. Only had tea/coffee and scones because it wasn't quite lunchtime so we couldn't justify having their lovely soup. Service is excellent and the cafe itself is lovely. It is run from Camphill Village Trust and the staff are a credit to the Trust. Go! You won't be disappointed.

Took my two children and had lovely home made soup and bread. The waitress was very friendly and helpful and we managed to get our favourite upstairs table in the window which is great for people watching. Favourite place for lunch in Malton.

The cafe is run by the Croft Community and the Café, Gift and Bookshop provides work opportunities for its members. Food is Freetrade and organic, where possible and bread is htome baked. The cafe offers hot and cold breakfast and lunch menu. They bookshop is now the only independant one in Malton and offers a diverse stock as well as handmade crafts. The service is generally good, but sometimes there are glitches until the training sinks in. The cafe is in two floors and is light and airey. You are surrounded by the books and gifts, providing something to browse while you wait for the order.

The cafe always has a great friendly feeling with fresh food baked on site and an emphasis on organic, locally sourced produce and fair-trade teas and coffee. My personal recommendation would have to be the bacon sandwiches served in fresh homemade rolls (with brown sauce of course).(It is also my understanding that the cafe is owned and run by the Camphill Village Trust and offers work opportunities to adults with learning disabilities and other special needs. I only mention this as the staff always seem to be having such a great time that it undoubtedly contributes to the positive atmosphere the place has.)
