We came across the Dale Head Farm Tea Garden purely by chance today. We were meandering along the country roads and ended up at the farm. We drove into the farm yard and realised this was where the road stopped! We were greeted with a smile and a warm welcome from Maggie who said are you lost or looking for the team room we said both now we know there a tea room! We had the most delicious cake and coffee with stunning views. This was a real find by chance! June & Barbra

Such a quaint little tearoom off the beaten track, I'm so glad we spotted all the great reviews for this place on TripAdvisor, we weren't disappointed. The hot chocolate was divine - so much so I've come home and treated myself to a velvetiser! Food was delicious. Really welcoming atmosphere. Would love to visit again in the summer months so we can take full advantage of the lovely garden area.

You know what it's like sometimes when you are really looking forward to an event only for it to turn out to be a total disappointment - well this was it. We had seen glowing items in magazines and gushing reviews on websites about this place and thought we were in for a real treat. Not so. The ham in the sandwich was very tasty but in sliced granary bread that could have come from any supermarket. The accompanying salad was shredded iceberg lettuce with a few slices of tomato and cucumber plus a dollop of coleslaw. If you are going to charge £8-40 for this at the very least you need to make an effort on presentation. Cakes were not brilliant either and the cream scone was just that, split in half and the jam and cream already in. Normally would expect to have the ingredients served separately. And the jam lacked taste and texture. The place itself is in a stunning location with great views from the garden. But inside it is less than inviting with bare tables and basic chairs - couldn't even be described as rustic. What did surprise is that how a place with a corrugated asbestos roof exposed to the interior cafe ever got passed health and safety inspection? Still, you win some you lose some and come away £34 worse off for experience. I did double check that I was at the same place as all the people giving it 5* reviews because I couldn't believe we had eaten at the same place.

We spent two nights in the shepherd’s hut at Dale Head Farm Tea Garden. The hut was small but cozy, and very warm and comfortable. There was a double bed and single trundle bed available to use, and private bathroom nearby. Maggie, the host, was delightful - she gave us great options and directions for local pubs in the area for dinner, and chatter freely over breakfast. Full English breakfast was included, and we visited the Tea Garden for coffee and cake in the morning. Cakes were all homemade by Maggie, and delicious. Other products are all locally sourced. A very relaxing get-away for us.

My husband booked us an overnight stay at the Shepherds Hut at Dale Head Farm. We were warmly greeted by the lady in the cafe who went to get Maggie for us, who went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, showed us our hut and around the area, also showed us the tracks to walk to if we wanted to venture out. We settled in and went for some cake (it was my birthday after all) and it was amazing easily one of the best cakes I’ve ever had! We then decided to go for a walk to the local pub that Maggie had recommended the views were stunning as described and was so nice to see the sights. Came back had a lovely bbq and a cosy night in. Then woke up the next morning to a beautiful full English! Already been deciding when we can come again. Such a wonderful place full of wonderful people. Thank you x

We were recommended by Linda/Ian at Sevenford House. It had been snowing and we took a route along the old railway line and dropped down into the cafe. 7 of us walked there and 4 others drove up in car. The cafe is fantastic and quirky. Maggie and Mary (from the dairy she said!) really made us welcome. We had cake and the most enormous Teacakes ever! Lovely pots of tea too. What a lovely gorgeous place - highly recommended and we will certainly be back.

What a wonderful spot - so beautiful and full of kindness and friendship! I arrived pretty tired, after a long walk on no breakfast, and was revived with a truly delicious ham sandwich, elegantly served and containing the best ham I have ever eaten, followed by sticky ginger cake with cheese, which was also very good. In addition, I was worried about finishing the walk and was instantly offered a lift down the valley to where we had left our car, so that my friend didn’t have to come back and pick me up. This is a very special place.

This Tea Garden is excellent. While walking along the paths in this beautiful Rosedale we visited the cafe twice and on both occasions enjoyed lovely hot soup followed by delicious pies and the owner’s home baked scrumptious cake. When sitting in the garden there is an awesome view down along the length of the dale - and if it is raining, there is a very comfortable space inside the cafe itself. Highly recommended.

We visited here a couple of weeks ago and have been looking forward to it for a long time as we hadn't been since the pandemic started. We have been many times before and always look forward to it. It has expanded since we were here last with a counter inside the cafe building, and lovely new loos. But the best bit is sitting in the garden in the sunshine taking in the fabulous view. We arrived just after a large group of cyclists so there was a queue at the counter but everyone got served quickly. The food was as lovely as ever, and the whole experience is just so relaxing. Looking forward to our next visit.

We stopped off at Dale Head Tea Garden after a walk up to Blakey Ridge. The garden has a lovely view over the valley farmland and up onto the ridge, plus the garden itself was very well maintained with plenty of seats and lots of character! We visited at the end of the Jubilee weekend and there was a great selection of themed food choices. We opted for blueberry scones and these were fantastic - wonderfully presented (fresh with lots of jam and cream) and the best scones we have enjoyed for ages! Staff were friendly and helpful - the coffee was great too! A lovely way to end to a day out in Rosedale.

I have stayed at Rosedale East a number of times over the years and have always gone into Rosedale Abbey for a tearoom as I hadn't realised that the Dale Head Tearoom did self service when I had assumed it was closed at the beginning of the week. Luckily a fellow guest put me right so I had my first visit last Monday. What a delight! A good selection of cakes, and facilities for making tea and coffee as well as cold drinks. I was pleased to see fresh milk in a jug rather than the UHT pots you get at some places. The garden and views are a delight but also it was nice to be able to go inside for a bit of shade as it was an unusually hot day. Great too that there was a toilet available in the house (well signposted) as we had walked to the Dale Head. Even with self service we felt very welcome, especially as we were the only visitors in the tearoom so we could dream that we were living in a fabulous location!

I visited with family and friends for the first time this year. We've known about the tea garden for some time but hadn't realized that they offer a self serve facility on a Monday and Tuesday, otherwise we'd have visited before (we thought it was closed on these days). We were the only poeple there after our walk, and felt welcomed by the pretty garden and quaintly furnished room with lovely views. Happy to serve myself coffee and a very generous portion of ginger cake for a very reasonable price. Also pleased to find a toilet available even though the tea garden is attached to a family home. We'll definately return. I've marked te service excellent even though we served ourselves because everything was well laid out and clean.

We make sure we visit this tea room each time we visit Rosedale. The walk to it is made easier knowing that there is a little oasis at the end!! When we visited last week we were the only people there as we were a little early but we were made to feel welcome even though we had an "excitable" dog with us!! It was a very windy day so we sat in the hut so that we could still see the beautiful view.

Quite difficult vehicle access primarily down single track lane. Small parking area on arrival. Not a nice day when we visited and there were no other customers when we arrived. Limited menu of sandwiches and home baking. The prices were by no means inexpensive and based on other reviews we had high hopes. Unfortunately we found the sandwiches acceptable but very basic. Similarly we found the quality of the baking dissapointing .we had scone, meringue and treacle tart. The view is lovely and worth a visit for that alone .

Stopped off for lunch here when walking on Sunday. Limited menu told didntvdi soup during the summer so opted for a sandwich as the selling point was that the bread made from flour locally produced at Spaunton Mill. I was disappointed when it came the bread was very thinly sliced and the choice of egg expensive at £6.00. The setting was pretty and friends had coffee and cake so maybe I should opt for that if I go again.

We stayed at dale head farm in their beautiful shepherds hut for one night as an early birthday present. It was fab!! So comfy and cosy we were made to feel so welcome and had the best full cooked breakfast the next morning. Can't wait to go back to see Maggie and her family a must for anyone wanting to get away from it all and do some stunning walks.

Went for a walk with friends and found this place thanks to some signs. Owing to the great weather, they had run out of bread, which is good as it’s nice to see that local businesses are busy. Instead we ordered several cakes which were very tasty and filling. On reflection, if there was no bread, if there was still fillings available these could have been offered with some chutney....as some sort of open ploughman type thing. We also had some dogs and it’s good that that place allows dogs. We did have water for the dogs but could not see a water bowl in the garden for general dog use. The brack was very tasty. Finally, the lady who ran the place was friendly but could have spent a few minutes engaging with us as new customers.Really liked this place and our suggestions are given to help the place retain customers and not to criticise.

Beautiful day, lovely views, tables in garden some with sun umbrellas. Food was all homemade, very tasty sandwich with salads and crisps and excellent iced coffee. We did intend to have the recommended scones but didn't have room. Did however bring home Maple Pecan cake and Moggy which we had as dessert after dinner, super. A little off the beaten track but well worth a visit.

Stayed here with my boyfriend for our aniversary and it was everything we wanted and more. Arrived late (not a problem) to be greeted by Alora who showed us around. The hut is so cosy and has everything you need (even shortcake biscuits baked in the shape of sheep) but we spent most of the evening eating outside and stargazing. Bed very comfy and breakfast even better with nice, clean facilities only a 30 second walk from the hut. In the morning we went to the lambing shed to feed and hold the lambs which was lovely.

I am sure that the reviews shown are all totally valid and true and I think maybe we were just unlucky to arrive here on a day where the experience was not as expected after reading the glowing reviews.

The reason why we came to Helmsley was because we had eaten at the Rattle Owl in York when Tom Heywood was the head chef there. We had the misfortune of returning there after he had left and it was not even close to the original experience. It was our 25 wedding anniversary and the night previously we had the taster menu at the Star Inn at Harome. We chose the wine pairing with some trepidation as we have often experienced unfortunate pairings which Sommeliers’ have tried to convince us are a match with some course or other and yet seemed totally arbitrary. I am delighted to report that for the first time in my experience of high end eateries I could actually ‘taste’ the connection between each of the courses and the accompanying drink. I say ‘drink’ because it wasn’t always conventional wine in fact we had a coffee/chocolatey stout accompanying the bread course (both delicious) , an local Solaris sparkling white wine from Dunesforde Vineyard, Yorkshire with the trout (I didn’t believe it was possible but a fantastic wine) and an orange wine from the US with the scallop dish perfectly complementing the food. If I haven’t gone on about the food it’s only because I was expecting it to be world class and it was. Every course perfectly presented and singing with flavour. The was a mushroom mousse course on the menu and coincidently also on the menu at the Star Inn - there was no comparison. The Pignut mousse melted in the mouth as it should sadly the Star Inn’s version was stodgy and forgettable. Every course was light, succulent and tasty. Service was very attentive without being overbearing and Lauissa explained the ethos and the journey for her and Tom. In short unbeatable.

Be aware there is no mobile phone signal. The Cross Keys is a small village pub which provides accommodation, with the pleasantly decorated rooms in a separate building. Fresh milk was provided on arrival for a much needed cup of tea. Food is served in the pub every night which is good news for those walking the Yorkshire Wolds Way.After a good night’s sleep and breakfast, I collected my pack-up lunch and left Thixendale having been made welcome by Steve and Mary throughout my stay. It was great value too.

The Bay Horse is a truly outstanding place for a meal. Although a little out of the way, it's well worth a visit. Not only is the food thoroughly delicious but the service was exemplary. Altogether an outstanding pub/restaurant and I highly recommend it!

The service, the food, all good, but not great. The scallop starter with black pudding was delicious, the main course of Belly Pork was mediocre and the cheese course with two pieces of cheese was less than impressive. With wine, peroni and a glass of whiskey the bill of £175.00 for two people was far too excessive for what was on offer. We have dined in Michelin star for far less and this place just didn’t hit the spot for the cost.
