Visiting the area, booked this for a birthday treat. It didn’t disappoint, on a horrible wet, windy evening, the Bar area and Restaurant were warm and welcoming. Staff very friendly and service excellent. The food was lovely, generous portions, beautifully presented. If you are in the area give it a try!

Another excellent meal. I am a pescatarian who cannot unfortunately eat onion but I am always catered for brilliantly here. They take great care to provide me with alternatives and give me clear guidance as to what does contain onion. We would have loved a pudding today but definitely did not have room! Thank you. I live locally so will be back.

First visit here and we will definitely be back! Lovely setting (not somewhere you’d realise was here in passing). We had the wood-oven cooked Mediterranean Sunday lunch and it was excellent. Sitting in the conservatory area gave the best of both worlds- a great view of the outdoor cooking, peahens and the owners’ beautiful cat, but a bit of shelter from the sun. Open doors and windows kept it from being too hot. Nice choice of drinks including our favourites Prince of Darkness gin and Fever Tree tonics. Bread and flavoured hummus was a nice surprise. I had the butternut squash with celeriac, aubergines, courgettes and more and it was delicious. The salmon was also particularly good. The dishes came with 5 different sides. Patatas bravas, special baked beans and lovely salads. The bulgur wheat, mint and pomegranate was my favourite. I hadn’t thought I’d like the beans, but they were very tasty. A great idea and way of trying new things. Puddings were homemade and both the cheesecake and meringue dish were very good. Toasted almonds elevated the raspberry and meringue and the cheesecake was silky and mousse-like. It does take a little longer having things cooked in this way, but they warned us about this and it was so relaxing (and the seats so comfortable) that we didn’t really notice. Everyone was very welcoming and friendly and we really enjoyed our meal. Branded mints were another nice touch. Looking forward to returning!

Superb. A real find - a small homely restaurant with seriously good food (they have plans to expand, good). Chef has excellent ideas, presentation is first class. I’d only ask that they offer small plates too as quantities can be huge. You want enough room left for pudding ..

My husband & I ate here in March 2024 whilst staying at the delightful Brickfields Farm. Such a peaceful, relaxing & charming setting tucked away down a country lane. The food & wine was amazing and of a very high standard. We received the most impeccable service from our warm & friendly host and cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough. Make sure you book though as it is a small restaurant and understandably very popular.

Fabulous food. In a quirky and intimate restaurant overlooking fields, countryside and Guinea fowl we found some of the most flavourful food we’ve ever had. Scallops follows by lightly pankoed chicken with a banana core (yes!) in a coconut curry sauce. Balance, harmony and depth of flavour outstanding throughout. Friendly efficient service too. Chapeau to chef Geoff Smith. We loved it

We visited on a Saturday night. We were the first there as had table booked for 6pm. The food was excellent. Good choice and specials board also. I ordered the squid I wasn’t expecting a whole one but it was very tasty. The dressing of chilli & garlic had a nice kick. My steak was served rare as I asked, the mushroom sauce delicious. My husband enjoyed his terrine and steak suet pie. All the vegetables were nicely cooked and very tasty. My only slight grumble and which stops. Me rating this excellent is that everything was very quick. We heard the bell ring stating our starters were ready whilst we were still enjoying a drink in the bar. We asked for a break before the main course and they obliged. But we’d still had both courses served by 640. We maybe in the minority nowadays but we still like to take our time over a meal. This won’t stop us coming again the food is so good.

This was our second visit here and again, it did not disappoint. We both had the tempura prawns to start. The tempura was absolutely perfect and the prawns still wonderfully tender, served with a chilli dipping sauce. To follow I went for the sirloin cooked in wood-fired ovens. It arrived beautifully rare as I had ordered it with a peppercorn sauce and fries crispy on the outside but floury in the middle. My idea of the perfect meal. My partner chose filet of sea bass, again cooked in the wood-fired oven. The chef is certainly very accomplished. The surroundings were lovely, sheep grazing in the sunshine, an extra pleasure given all the recent rain. We will definitely be visiting again.

Delicious evening meal here whilst on holiday locally. Three courses of the finest dining, excellent service and pretty reasonably priced too. Everyone enjoyed everything - blue cheese soufflé and Whitby crab ravioli to start, pork fillet, roast halibut and pan fried duck served with dauphinoise potatoes and a pleasing selection of fresh vegetables and lemon possets and soft chocolate cakes to finish. Lovely low key atmosphere and great to watch the sheep in the field outside do their evening perambulations! Highly recommended and more than made up for a washout of a day weather wise!

Hidden away down a country lane. A wonderful menu, such variety, we couldn’t choose. Started with a drink in the bar. Finally chose squid cooked in chilli/ garlic, and Whitby crab ravioli for starters. Halibut wrapped in palma ham with samphire and duck in orange sauce. Followed by panna cota with blueberries and passion fruit crème brûlée. I was soo full but couldn’t leave any. Washed down with a fab bottle of fizz. The halibut and sapphire was soo tasty. The setting is so cute, watching the fat lambs in the field while eating. The owner served us, so friendly and chatty. We arrived at 7 and most tables were full already. We definitely be back.

Be aware there is no mobile phone signal. The Cross Keys is a small village pub which provides accommodation, with the pleasantly decorated rooms in a separate building. Fresh milk was provided on arrival for a much needed cup of tea. Food is served in the pub every night which is good news for those walking the Yorkshire Wolds Way.After a good night’s sleep and breakfast, I collected my pack-up lunch and left Thixendale having been made welcome by Steve and Mary throughout my stay. It was great value too.

A canine cuddle cafe is the sort of place one would expect to find in the trendier parts of London which is why it was such a surprise to come across this little gem in Malton. That said, Malton has been awarded the title 'dog friendliest town in the UK.' We just love this cafe where several different breeds of happy dogs (which all belong to the cafe owner) are available for endless cuddles. The cuddles are accompanied by a variety of teas, coffees and home baking. Thalia, the owner, informed us that the venue and a selection of doggies can be hired for children's parties. Apparently an alcohol licence can be obtained for grown up parties. A visit to Malton would not be complete without a visit to Mixmups. We highly recommend. Thank you for a wonderful afternoon.

As part of that 'tasting menu' trend, if that's what you're after, you won't be disappointed. A lovely dining room, with semi-open kitchen and very attentive and knowledgeable staff. Crockery and artwork come from local creators, and adds to that 'local food producer' ethos. A destination eatery for grownups!
