We have just found this lovely little gem of a tea parlour we just thought we would stop for a coffeeWhat a shock this is a fantastic place you must stop here if you are passing. This tea parlour surpasses Betty’s tea room in York. Fantastic service, well mannered and very polite we will definitely come here again

With the weather less than clement (!) afternoon tea in the garden was not an option! However, the cosy little 'parlour' was a great venue for afternoon tea service. Everything was freshly prepared from the sandwiches to the scones and fancy cakes. Cornish or Devon scones?? Left to the consumer - that is, cream on first then jam, or vice versa! We chose tea (coffee was available) which came on a formal tray with a faux silver teapot, loose tea, tea strainer et al. Bone china plates cups and saucers - altogether delightful. A 'blast from the past' when 'afternoon tea' really WAS afternoon tea!

They even included the tea bags.We both throughly enjoyed this treat in the lockdown world we live in. Thank you

Booked our tea three weeks before our holiday in Yorkshire with Dini. We ordered an afternoon tea experience and a Middleton Savoury Medley to share. The savoury medley consisted of a pork pie, ham sandwich, tea loaf with Wensleydale cheese, cheese scone with cream cheese and onion marmalade and tea. The afternoon tea was ham, cucumber and egg sandwiches, one fruit and one plain scone with jam and clotted cream, Victoria sandwich, tea loaf with Wensleydale cheese, millionaires shortbread and a fruit cup with tea.It was a lovely experience with big band music in the background and quirky ornaments all around. Good value too so all in all a nice afternoon.I also hadn't realised it was actually a working post office too!

The tea room is lovely and quaint with a real "Palour" feel to it and excellent Covid measures in place to ensure customer safety. My wife and I both ordered the Middleton Savoury Medley!! What a feast...A lovely warm Pork Pie, a Ham Sandwich, Yorkshire Tea Loaf with Wensleydale cheese and a cheese scone with cream cheese and onion marmalade!! all with a big pot of tea for two. We pre-booked afternoon tea to save disappointment due to reduced seating in line with social distancing. On arrival we were seated at a suitably positioned table with a dividing screen to aid separation, the waitress took our order and we settled to take in the 1940's styling. Tea arrived in a China pot with nice period China tea cups and plates. We were served initially with a range of sandwiches, egg, ham and cucumber, neatly placed on a two tier plate stand. This was followed by a similar serving of mini-scones with clotted cream and jam, millionaires short-bread, a fruit cup, and mini Victoria sponges. Everything was very fresh and beautifully presented, plenty of pop-up hot water was available and a doggy-bag for anything that we couldn't manage to eat at the time. All in all it was a very nice experience at a very reasonable price.

My wife and I were traveling back from Whitby when we passed the tea room. We stopped and it was the best decision. We were greeted by a warm welcome and even though you cannot see people's faces because of wearing masks due to Covid you could tell that she had smile on her face. The food is either home made or sourced locally and is delicious. The previous week we had been to Betty's tea room in Harrogate and this was 100 percent better. It is the small details like sugar lumps with tongs.Remarkably it was not over expensive. I would highly recommend anybody to stop here for a cuppa and cake or anything else on the menu and see

We looked at the menu and as neither myself or husband liked some of the fillings we asked the girl serving us if we could have some different fillings and she was more than happy to oblige.First we got a plate with several sandwiches on and as an extra my husband ordered a pork pie too. After we had eaten the sandwiches a plate of cakes came out and the scones were still warm, all was delicious. I could not finish it all but the girl serving kindly wrapped up what was left for us to take away with us. The girl who served us was very friendly and chatty and we felt very much at home here. Had the afternoon tea at the old post office earlier today & have to agree with the 5 star rating. The sandwiches were lovely (but let's be honest it's not really about the sandwiches is it!), it was a really good cuppa & then the cakes - 2 scones with jam & cream, an individual Victoria sponge, a strawberry tart, a piece of Yorkshire tea loaf with Wensleydale cheese (this a bit different from the usual afternoon tea) and a piece of millionaires shortbread. All were dainty so we were able to eat everything, but didn't leave feeling over faced. All the cakes other than the millionaires shortbread are home baked in house. Lovely vintage tea set & all matching and we were told the name & age of it which was a nice touch. Service was excellent. Lastly dog friendly which was something I never thought I'd be grateful for but as a new dog owner I am! Really nice afternoon tea, thank you & I would definitely recommend.

Although we only live a short distance from the tea rooms, we have never visited. However, after our visit on Saturday, that will be changing. When you step inside you are transported back to the 1940s. We were met with a friendly welcome and felt comfortable straight away. Apart from the homemade soup and toasted sandwiches there was no hot food. Ploughmans, sandwiches and cake. I had sandwiches and cake and my wife the soup and sandwich. All was excellent and presented the old fashioned way. A pot of tea (leaves not bags) was presented in a China tea pot and China cops and sauces. I had not used a tea strainer in years. The quality of everything we had was excellent. Be warned though. It is only a small room so I think you can book ahead if you want to reserve a table. Having spent two nights in a tent through gale force winds and gale force Geordies, a tea room such as Middleton was more than needed to pamper our pallets on our final afternoon of exploring North Yorkshire. There is clearly an experience to be had in the tearoom, which begins when first stepping through the door. The deco is very quirky, with a well kept antique filled grandmas dining room feel to it. I think the theme may be 40s be don't quote me on that. The cutlery was even nicer, the tea set they put on your table was fit for a king and the cleanliness was flawless around the whole setting. Gazing around like a child, you find most people are doing the same thing of admiring the deco, whilst you wait a tad longer than expected for the food. The fresh cakes, sandwiches and scones couldn't of tasted more well prepared, with each piece being at their best temperature, i.e. Warm scones and chilled strawberries. I would recommend to any small group, as I sense it may struggle to accommodate larger parties with out some notice. Given its location on a main road, this place deserves to be know to more by passers, so owners please make a noticeable sign!

Have visited a handful of times over the last two years and have rated it very highly. However, Mothers Day was somewhat shambolic. We had booked a table for the 3 o'clock sitting. However, when we arrived the earlier guests had not vacated their tables and the majority of the late sitting were queuing out of the door for about 20 minutes. Fortunately it was a dry day.Nobody was served a drink until all the tables had been cleared and everybody seated. There was then a delay before the sandwiches appeared, followed by an even longer wait for the cakes to appear.I thought the whole set up looked amateurish and it was not a particularly pleasurable experience. I have recommended this establishment to many of my friends in the past but will not be doing so again. We were led to believe that the early sitting had been ' in no rush to leave'. It would appear from the comments in another review of the day in question that the reason the earlier sitting were late departing is because they had such a long wait which explains a lot.It may have been more prudent to stagger the booking times instead of trying to serve everybody in one early and one later sitting.

Visited with family for a Mother's Day treat. The Afternoon Tea was delicious and our little ones were very well catered for too! Will be back!

Visited in July 2016 and as was back in area went again this afternoon. On both occasions had an excellent tea consisting of tasty sandwiches, yummy scones and cakes washed down with plenty of tea, including a replenishment. Also had a nice natter with the waitress and proprietor who took time to ensure everything was to our satisfaction.

5 of us went as a Mother's Day treat last month. I pre-booked weeks beforehand and we were really looking forward to it after hearing such good reviews. Food was lovely but the service was such a disappointment and really let the whole experience down. We were at the 1-3 sitting. Took us 30 minutes to get our tea and coffee, then waited another 15 minutes to get the sandwiches. We then didn't get our cakes and desserts until 2.40. My sister had to go to the kitchen to ask for more tea as they didn't offer us more despite it being sat there for well over an hour. Very disappointing as I don't see how they could be so slow and disorganised when everyone had pre-booked and there are only a certain number of tables anyway.Unfortunately based on this visit I won't be rushing back. Maybe we were just unlucky.

We've driven past many times but this was our first visit. It won't be the last. The earl grey tea was as good as I've had anywhere, the sandwiches and cakes were plentiful and delicious and the ambience was good too. Nothing too flashy but a real treat. Loved that you could take home anything you couldn't manage!

Lets get the negative out of the way first. You have to park on the main road, but this is not an issue. The moment you step through the door you are instantly transported back 50 years. Bone china tea cups and plates. Proper tea leaves you need a tea strainer. Super fresh homemade sandwiches. Superb dainty cakes. Scones with jam and double cream. All of it beautifully served by an attentive staff. My wife has to follow a dairy free diet and this was not an issue at all. All her sandwiches and cakes were specially made diary free. What service. The atmosphere is so peaceful just a murmur of conversation and a clink of teaspoons from the diners at the other tables. There are only 6 tables so booking is essential. The prices are very reasonable as well. A most remarkable experience.

A lovely tea parlour with a fantastic afternoon tea. It was actually my first ever English afternoon tea and I don't think I could have had it in a lovelier place. Nice atmosphere, delicious food and friendly staff.

This is a little gem, a small menu that delivers on flavour. The cakes are amazing and in summer you can get home made lemonade which is really refreshing. I've been a few times now and each time it was lovely. Look forward to going again soon.

Back in 2016 we planned a trip to see friends in Pickering at the beginning of this year, looking online for things to do when the obvious choices are closed for maintenance etc we came across The Post Office Tea Parlour, the website looked intriguing so we pencilled it in for a visit. Well this proved to be a great call, we occasionally have afternoon teas in a variety of places, Garden centres, Hotels and the like, some are pleasant, some not so good but this beautiful little tea room took the whole experience to a new and much higher level for us. Very nice owner whom we had booked a table with greeted us warmly, settled us down and then the afternoon began, two young ladies dealt with taking the orders and being very patient with what for them must be routine questions. Coffee and tea was served followed by the most wonderful choice of sandwiches, so well presented and delicious. It got better, fresh scones, clotted cream and exquisite jam, cakes, petit fours, meringues oh it was so good. After this wonderful experience the owner and staff bade farewell, we had hoped to get back there to try the savoury choices but it wasn't to be, rest assured another time as it turns out our friends are soon to be moving to Middleton, thanks to all at this absolute gem.

On a freezing cold January day in North Yorkshire we happened to call in here for a late lunch and we were so happy we did. We walked in and were happy to feel the warmth in the room immediately. This continued throughout our whole time there. Exceptional service and fantastic food. Can't wait to go back.

Excellent service in this traditional tea parlour. Out toasted sandwichs were cooked to order and the china tea cups and proper tea pots make this a lovely treat.

We three were en route to Whitby and a short detour from Pickering brought us to Middleton Tea Parlour, serving some of the finest homemade cakes and pastries in the county.First up were beautifully moist egg mayonnaise sandwiches, followed by Yorkshire tea loaf accompanied by a generous slab of local Wensleydale cheese. To finish, delicious apple cake with Bramley lemon curd from a recipe we've since found in the River Cottage guide to preserves. We ordered two tea varieties, both served in spectacular style and were so impressed, we bought a pretty tea service on display to replicate the experience at home. It's been out twice already!

Excellent value and friendly service. The Afternoon Tea Experience is not to be missed. It's just like visiting Grandmas - everything tastes better when served on a china plate/in a china cup. You can never be bored here with all the wonderful old china displays and embroidered tablecloths to look at. A worthy treat any day of the week

Wow, what a hidden gem. My friend took me as a treat. Lucky me! We had afternoon tea. Not only is it very good value, it's more than I expected. The ambience is perfect for a vintage tea parlour. The decor is refreshingly cosy. It's almost like visiting my ' Nana's best front room' some of the crockery dates back to 1800's. The staff can't do enough to help & do not rush you. Even offering more tea when you run low. Everything is presented beautifully. You can even buy hand crafted items & some crockery. We highly recommend it.
