Small and cosy tea room where we enjoyed the most beautiful family afternoon tea. Just a lovely way to end our weeks stay in North Yorkshire. The bread for the sandwiches was so soft, tea was served with free top ups and scones freshly made from the oven and warm to eat. Cakes were beautiful too and there was more than enough for all 6 of us to enjoy. Ages ranged from 10-44yrs and enjoyed by all. If you like a bit of nostalgia and like afternoon tea, this is the place to go. We would highly recommend The Middleton Tea Rooms.

What a great find. This little tea parlour is absolutely perfect. We were greeted by a lovely, friendly lady. We had the afternoon tea. It was delicious, sandwiches all freshly made, scones warm from the oven, fresh fruit, yummy cakes. It was a feast that was so, so tasty. The tea and coffee were served in gorgeous floral tea and coffee pots and bone china teacups. A perfect end to our long weekend away. Thank you.

We stopped off for a spot of lunch as we were staying locally. The whole team were so incredibly welcoming, we sat outside with the two dogs though they would have been welcome inside as well. We both had ploughman’s which is one of the best we’ve ever had. Fantastic selection of three cheeses, pork pie, chutney and many more. All home made and you could tell. We will be back for afternoon tea when next staying as they are all homemade as well. What a find.

We came as a family last Sunday and couldn’t believe how cute the little building was on the outside and transported you back in time when you stepped into the tea parlour. Our host was Stacey who was really friendly, funny and attentive. We decided to go get a selection of the classic afternoon tea and savoury afternoon tea- both were so tasty and made to order. The bread for the sandwiches was so soft, the fillings especially the egg mayonnaise was creamy and not eggy in the slightest. The cheese scones and pork pie were delightful too (Stacey told their secret to making the cheese scones so light and fluffy). The onion marmalade was so moorish we ended up buying a bottle to take home. The classic afternoon tea was also delicious with everything being well presented, sweet but not too sweet and plentiful (we took a doggy bag home). The presentation of our afternoon teas was lovely and we loved the china as it dates back from the early 1900s and some from the mid-late 1800s. I have to say that this is the best afternoon tea I’ve had in the U.K. and after travelling and living abroad. It is definitely worth booking going, you won’t regret it and I can’t wait to go back!

When we walked by this on our way into Pickering we could never imagined what a treasure we would find inside. It was great that we could take our well behaved dog in with us. The layout gave us plenty of room and the staff were so dog friendly. Now we have been to many “tea rooms” or “parlours” but never found a true parlour. This place was just that. We were sat in the old parlour of the house surrounded by history, well presented memorabilia and a beautiful warmth of what a parlour should have. The tea, the 1940’s antique tea sets and the incredible cakes were outstanding and massively exceeded our expectations. A truly joyful experience that created a forever memory for us. A huge thanks to everyone at the Middleton Post Office Tea Parlour.

We were staying nearby for a long weekend and booked a takeaway afternoon tea. When I went to collect, the team were so friendly and the setting had a wonderful charm. We ordered the gluten free afternoon tea (to my joy as this is rarely an option for me to have when out and about) and it was wonderful! Lovely sandwiches with a choice of fillings - which we chose when we ordered. The bread used was soft and didn't taste gluten free. We also has scones with jam and clotted cream and a selection of cakes and fruit. The whole experience, from ordering, to the service to the food was wonderful. We'll definitely return when we're next in the area.

Visited recently as staying in the area. My wife loves afternoon tea and so we thought we would give it a try. We were not disappointed. My wife had the traditional afternoon tea with sandwiches on fresh bread with 2 lovely scones, jam and clotted cream. Also a fruits cup of fresh fruit and some other cake. She loved it. I had the savoury medley. Probably the best pork pie I have ever tasted, ham sandwiches and a cheese scone with caramelised onion relish and cream cheese. Scone was hot, and again really nice. A fantastic afternoon tea, very quaint setting and friendly staff. Highly recommend and will definitely visit again if in the area. Food and drinks served in old fashioned china cups and plates which really set it off lovely.

Recently visited this place on a holiday in the area. We booked in advance as its not a large venue. We had assorted cakes with a couple of pots of tea. All cakes, scones etc were all excellent. As a baker myself I do like to try out tea rooms. This place was not disappointing, all thoroughly enjoyed the experience especially with the tablecloths crocheted. Lots of tea pots and china cups hung up and lots of quaint tea related memorabilia. Background music was wonderful, gently not rowdy ideal for a tea room.

With the weather less than clement (!) afternoon tea in the garden was not an option! However, the cosy little 'parlour' was a great venue for afternoon tea service. Everything was freshly prepared from the sandwiches to the scones and fancy cakes. Cornish or Devon scones?? Left to the consumer - that is, cream on first then jam, or vice versa! We chose tea (coffee was available) which came on a formal tray with a faux silver teapot, loose tea, tea strainer et al. Bone china plates cups and saucers - altogether delightful. A 'blast from the past' when 'afternoon tea' really WAS afternoon tea!

The afternoon tea was ham, cucumber and egg sandwiches, one fruit and one plain scone with jam and clotted cream, Victoria sandwich, tea loaf with Wensleydale cheese, millionaires shortbread and a fruit cup with tea.It was a lovely experience with big band music in the background and quirky ornaments all around. We pre-booked afternoon tea to save disappointment due to reduced seating in line with social distancing. On arrival we were seated at a suitably positioned table with a dividing screen to aid separation, the waitress took our order and we settled to take in the 1940's styling. Tea arrived in a China pot with nice period China tea cups and plates. We were served initially with a range of sandwiches, egg, ham and cucumber, neatly placed on a two tier plate stand. This was followed by a similar serving of mini-scones with clotted cream and jam, millionaires short-bread, a fruit cup, and mini Victoria sponges. Everything was very fresh and beautifully presented, plenty of pop-up hot water was available and a doggy-bag for anything that we couldn't manage to eat at the time. All in all it was a very nice experience at a very reasonable price.

Had the afternoon tea at the old post office earlier today & have to agree with the 5 star rating. The sandwiches were lovely (but let's be honest it's not really about the sandwiches is it!), it was a really good cuppa & then the cakes - 2 scones with jam & cream, an individual Victoria sponge, a strawberry tart, a piece of Yorkshire tea loaf with Wensleydale cheese (this a bit different from the usual afternoon tea) and a piece of millionaires shortbread. All were dainty so we were able to eat everything, but didn't leave feeling over faced. All the cakes other than the millionaires shortbread are home baked in house. Lovely vintage tea set & all matching and we were told the name & age of it which was a nice touch. Service was excellent. Lastly dog friendly which was something I never thought I'd be grateful for but as a new dog owner I am! Really nice afternoon tea, thank you & I would definitely recommend.

Although we only live a short distance from the tea rooms, we have never visited. However, after our visit on Saturday, that will be changing. When you step inside you are transported back to the 1940s. We were met with a friendly welcome and felt comfortable straight away. Apart from the homemade soup and toasted sandwiches there was no hot food. Ploughmans, sandwiches and cake. I had sandwiches and cake and my wife the soup and sandwich. All was excellent and presented the old fashioned way. A pot of tea (leaves not bags) was presented in a China tea pot and China cops and sauces. I had not used a tea strainer in years. The quality of everything we had was excellent. Be warned though. It is only a small room so I think you can book ahead if you want to reserve a table. We have already booked the mothers day afternoon tea special. Looking forward to that.

The decor, dinging clock, immaculate tea set and crockery, and the wartime music made the experience like going back in time. Really fantastic! I would recommend this cosy little gem to anyone.

This is our second visit here for afternoon tea, we certainly were not disappointed ! We took our 4 year old granddaughter and her mum with us for a special treat. Abigail was absolutely delighted to see her ‘child size afternoon tea’ all set out beautifully on her own cake plate and serving trolley !

Whenever I'm in this part of England, I make a point of having tea in the Middleton Post Office Tea Room. I always order the Afternoon Tea Experience which consists of several dainty sandwiches with various fillings, scones with clotted cream and jam, a selection of pastries, and tea. The atmosphere is charmingly reminiscent of a bygone era. Service is friendly and efficient. Because the Middleton Post Office Tea Room is so popular, I would definitely recommend reserving a table during busy periods. I'm already looking forward to my next visit!

Just had afternoon tea here with husband and elders granddaughter. We do not like cucumber sandwiches but were offered an alternative. Lots of freshly prepared sandwiches, more than we could eat. Lots of lovely cakes and warm scones with jam and cream. All served on vintage China. So much tea we had to leave some. As we could not eat all the cakes the staff boxed the rest up to take home. A must if you are in the area.

Lovely tea room, fantastic afternoon tea and very friendly staff so I'm very happy to give this 5 stars. We visited for my mums birthday on a cold and snowy afternoon. As I'd called ahead they kept open for us and we enjoyed a very memorable afternoon tea served on lovely old china. I've kept meaning to visit and will definitely be back soon. Thanks for making my mums birthday a very happy memory!

If it’s quaint, quiet English tea and cake you want..... look no further , this place is a real gem. The ploughman’s lunch for the people with a good appetite or the toasted sandwiches for the smaller meal, we’ve been several times and always found the food to be “spot on”

The reason why we came to Helmsley was because we had eaten at the Rattle Owl in York when Tom Heywood was the head chef there. We had the misfortune of returning there after he had left and it was not even close to the original experience. It was our 25 wedding anniversary and the night previously we had the taster menu at the Star Inn at Harome. We chose the wine pairing with some trepidation as we have often experienced unfortunate pairings which Sommeliers’ have tried to convince us are a match with some course or other and yet seemed totally arbitrary. I am delighted to report that for the first time in my experience of high end eateries I could actually ‘taste’ the connection between each of the courses and the accompanying drink. I say ‘drink’ because it wasn’t always conventional wine in fact we had a coffee/chocolatey stout accompanying the bread course (both delicious) , an local Solaris sparkling white wine from Dunesforde Vineyard, Yorkshire with the trout (I didn’t believe it was possible but a fantastic wine) and an orange wine from the US with the scallop dish perfectly complementing the food. If I haven’t gone on about the food it’s only because I was expecting it to be world class and it was. Every course perfectly presented and singing with flavour. The was a mushroom mousse course on the menu and coincidently also on the menu at the Star Inn - there was no comparison. The Pignut mousse melted in the mouth as it should sadly the Star Inn’s version was stodgy and forgettable. Every course was light, succulent and tasty. Service was very attentive without being overbearing and Lauissa explained the ethos and the journey for her and Tom. In short unbeatable.

Be aware there is no mobile phone signal. The Cross Keys is a small village pub which provides accommodation, with the pleasantly decorated rooms in a separate building. Fresh milk was provided on arrival for a much needed cup of tea. Food is served in the pub every night which is good news for those walking the Yorkshire Wolds Way.After a good night’s sleep and breakfast, I collected my pack-up lunch and left Thixendale having been made welcome by Steve and Mary throughout my stay. It was great value too.

The Bay Horse is a truly outstanding place for a meal. Although a little out of the way, it's well worth a visit. Not only is the food thoroughly delicious but the service was exemplary. Altogether an outstanding pub/restaurant and I highly recommend it!

The service, the food, all good, but not great. The scallop starter with black pudding was delicious, the main course of Belly Pork was mediocre and the cheese course with two pieces of cheese was less than impressive. With wine, peroni and a glass of whiskey the bill of £175.00 for two people was far too excessive for what was on offer. We have dined in Michelin star for far less and this place just didn’t hit the spot for the cost.
