We had our wedding reception here 9 years ago and when we were gifted a voucher as a present we decided to use it for afternoon tea close to our anniversary. It was perfect and brought back some amazing memories. Beautiful location and building. The staff are fantastic and the food is delicious. Great experience.

Pub is nicely presented, tidy exterior and spotless indoors, feeling like itās fresh from refurbishment, but sadly it seems more due to low patronage than upkeep. Very boring colour scheme and no personality/atmosphere, not helped by the out of date and overly loud juke box (no-one wanted to hear Katie Price and Peter Andre sing when they were somewhat relevant - walking in to be greeted by their caterwauling in 2024 should be considered assault!) means that thereās no such thing as a warm welcome, just a bit of a beige space to eat your boring dinner. Will never understand why, in a village with two excellent Indian restaurants within a couple of minutes walk, this place decided to serve Indian food as well, especially as theyāre not really very good at it. Have had food from here a couple of times since living in the village, and itās always been bland and pricey for the low quality. Recently went with friends who chose it against my advice and paid Ā£19 for half a dozen prawns in some tomato soup (not a curry sauce in the slightest, and I say that as someone who adds extra cream to most kormas) with soggy chips and flat Pepsi. We were a party of eight, and on an evening with only two other tables eating that we could see, our food was delivered over 25 minutes, meaning that some of our party were almost finished before others had even been served. The staff were all very pleasant and helpful when serving us, but they seemed to be in a state of oversupply, servers looking quite bored and hovering aimlessly around. There was also red headed lady who I would guess is a manager - again, very pleasant on interaction but has a very odd and overdone pub landlady persona, coupled with some awful shrilling that I think was meant to be singing and was quite irritating. A real shame that this place isnāt offering a nice country pub menu, or at least something different to the far superior and better established other local venues. For a bland and boring experience, go here, for great Indian food try Voujon or the Massala Club, for great atmosphereā¦donāt bother with Stonnall.

Stayed with a friend who I was walking Hadrians Wall with. Great place - nice staff lovely evening meal, good local beer and wonderful breakfast. Importantly, an effective, polite, well considered and low key approach to Covid - so refreshing after some really weirdly experiences elsewhere on the walk!

Just before Christmas we visited this restaurant and had an exceptional meal. We decided to return for birthday celebrations so last night six of us arrived expecting more of the same. What a transformation! Style over substance is now the order of the day! I had a crayfish salad for starters, three mouthful and it's gone. For the main course three of us had lambshank and three had haddock parcels. The lambshank were plonked in a bowl with a few pieces of random vegetables floating in the bottom. The haddock looked nice but also was insubstantial. No set course menu so a la carte prices which represented poor value for money. Won't be rushing back here!!!

We had a corporate do which was catered by The Alrewas Fryer. The group loved the food, we had fish and chips each, with a central bowl of mushy peas and curry sauce (not together). Everybody thanked us for the excellent fish and chips, all were impressed by the size of the fish. Marketing for 10 companies all for around Ā£100 unbelievable value.

Unfortunately I didn't get to try anything at this cafe. My party and another party stood waiting to be sitted, 3 members of staff walked past and said "be with you in a minute" that minute never came, so we all walked out and went next door to the 'Dam good cafe' which was fine.

I will always from now on, highly recommend the Windmill to anyone I know. It's lovely inside and the staff are just as lovely. It was recommended to me by a friend so l booked a surprise meal there for my nans birthday and everyone had the best night and enjoyed their food. Service was incredible, food was delicious and the night over all was so much tun. Very relaxed vibe in there, lots of food to choose from and drinks too. Thank you so much to the staff at the Windmill! We will most definitely, be coming back soon.
