What a wonderful pub. Located near to Lichfield, but feels a million miles away from anywhere. Located next to the canal and main intercity railway line close by. Plenty of parking, outside/inside seating areas. Inside is quirky and well decorated. Toilets are also clean and tidy. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Food is cooked freshly, so at busy times, there is a little wait, but well worth waiting for. Food is well presented, looks inviting and tastes delicious! Booking is advised if you are eating at night inside, I would imagine. Really enjoyed our first visit to The Plough, it definitely won't be our last.

I do not normally write reviews but this is probably the best pub that I have been to in a while. Its a bit hidden away, but the food atmosphere and service- especially the service was absolutely amazing. The locals were really nice and chatted to us, the staff could not help enough and were just really lovely. I will go again and would recommend others to try this place too.

Great service at this pub, went out of their way to accommodate my mother’s awkward diet requirements for lunch. My husband and I had ciabatta sandwiches, the roasted veg and the tuna and sweetcorn. Both were excellent with nice chips and a small dressed salad. Food cheerfully brought out to the canal side. Food was excellent value for money. Will be sure to visit again soon.

Visited this pub on the recommendation of my sister in law. Nice sunny day, so quite busy at lunchtime on a Wednesday in March 2025. Plenty of room inside and outside despite being busy. Ordering at the bar was a pleasant and enjoyable experience. We shared a steak ciabatta with blue cheese dressing, salad and chips. Absolutely excellent. Steak was melt in the mouth tender, salad was plentiful with a lovely vinaigrette dressing and the chips were light, fluffy and hot. Certainly not your usual pub catering chips fayre. Could not fault the food in any way. I had to congratulate the person waiting food and serving behind the bar. For families there are effectively two beer gardens, one of which is at the side of the canal. A very pleasant experience, thank you.

We had lunch on a Tuesday. It wasn't too busy and we loved the choice of drinks. There was very little vegan food available, but they did make the effort to find something suitable for my wife. Unfortunately, the food took a long time to be served and was almost cold when we got it. The taste and texture of the portobello and hallumi burger was excellent, but I do like hot food on a hot plate, and the temperature was a disappointment. I wonder how long it had been standing at the pass.

Just had lunch at the plough. Staff attentive, friendly & welcoming. Food was absolutely bob on. Delicious. I had cod & chips. Fish had crispy light batter, I couldn't eat batter as fish was enormous! Only ate couple of chips for same reason. Served with mushy minted peas, just perfect...tasted like you'd just picked fresh mint from your own garden. Tartar sauce was homemade, it was also delicious. This attention to detail pays dividends imo. Partner's meal was equally as good. Blue cheese & chorizo burger ... plentiful French fries onion rings, homemade coleslaw....again he left most of french fries as portion was mega-sized. Cost was a little more than basic pub grub, but it was fantastic quality for the money. Couple of pints of doombar bitter from the pump jus fab. Will go here again. Lovely afternoon.

We were told about the Plough, we have lived in the area for years and never knew of its existence. Well ....after todays experience I feel we will be more of a regular visitor. Lovely location right by the canal, so I would guess in the summer it could well be packed. Outside nice looking building, plenty of car parking. Inside a tardis, well layed out and well decorated. Nice bar with a good selection of beers, wines etc. Menu a good selection. My partner chose fish and chips, I have a chorizo beef burger as I was not that hungry. I could not get my breath when the meals were bought out. Both meal were massive, I am a big eater but the burger beat me, my partners fish was well meaty plenty of fish and light on the batter. Both fantastic meals. To top it all, if you like Guinness, on the day it was one of the best pints I have ever had. Price wise for a pint of Guinness and two large gasses of wine plus the food £60 and a few pence. Really good value for money.

This was a truly excellent lunchtime experience. Sunniest day of the year meant that this canal side pub/restaurant was absolutely heaving. We could only book a 4:30 table. The service was exceptional. Friendly, cheerful but incredibly efficient. Despite the number of diners there seemed to be a very organized process in place. The food itself was superb. I had turkey with five vegetables and a huge Yorkshire pudding. An excellent meal. My partner had lasagne which was excellent. For our sweet we had 'two spoons' for one meal. We had apple crumble and custard. Truly Divine. The total cost was 46 pounds. Worth every penny and I cannot thank of our waitress enough.

Poor experience this time, batter on fish looked and tastes burnt, Fish was also dry. Pub was filling with the smell burning oil when we were leaving. Tried this place on recommendation on a busy Friday night. Was advised it was lovely village eatery. The food was okay however the atmosphere was very much like a lichfield city pub full of very drunk people. I imagine this place is lovely on a weekday lunchtime and in summer by the canal but if you want a relaxed Friday evening try somewhere else. The servers were not particularly friendly and it seemed that hey did not want to be at work. It all seemed very hard work for anything you wanted.

This is a well run, cracking little restaurant and pub. It's always busy and especially jammed when food is being served. It's quieter when there is no food but always has local regulars propping up the bar and visitors from the canal in. It has Sky Sports on two small screens, allows dogs, serves a decent range of well-cared-for ales, a large number of benches outside in the summer, some by the canal, and is accepting of everyone in my eyes, even me. On the flip side, the menu usually has just one vegan option, if that; the west coast mainline runs within 100 metres sonit can be noisy when you sit outside, and the patio area suffers from a whiff of septic tank in summer, when the wind blows in the wrong direction. Otherwise, a great place.

We stopped off for lunch at this pub on our way back from Derbyshire to Sussex on Saturday. We had first tried the Dog Inn at Whittington (smelt strongly of chemicals and had big screens on for the football) and the Bell in the same village (basic menu), so it was a relief to find The Plough in a beautiful location with tables by the canal plus an extensive menu. For the 3 of us we ordered 2 x meat lasagne with garlic bread and a ploughman's. Impressed with both dishes. Very tasty piping hot lasagne in its own dish with big slices of garlic bread and a side salad f rocket. My husband raved about his ploughman's which included a bit of everything that you might wish for and in volume too - we ended up taking a doggy bag home! Thank you to The Plough for saving the day when we were getting very hungry and frustrated!
