Good little pub nice pint of San Miguel

Had a 80th birthday party for my husband there. Food was excellent, varied and well presented. Very easy to book and Claire was helpful and did everything to help make it a success. Highly recommend. There was about 45 people there, I bought everyone the first drink and total cost of the room, food and a drink came to just under £300. Worth every penny.

A nice meal, friendly and efficient staff. Will return.

We used to go here regular years ago ,we went in recently and it's not changed a bit It has a bar area & a lounge & a function room. No many pubs have got that these days. 👍

Just eaten, ,had steak and chips with peppercorn sauce, my husband had a mixed grill, it was absolutely amazing, thank you, and the service was excellent

Im a traveller from France and didn't expect food to be this good in UK. This pub made me the best meal I've tasted in UK. But the best thing there is the staff because the waiters were amazingly nice : I really didn't know any dish because they're all specific to UK and the waitress helped me a lot by explaining me nicely every single dish. The best adress in UK, recommended for everyone.

Full marks for this pub, the lady who served us was lovely and it wasn't long before we were talking to most of the customers in there and they were amazing because i'm not really a big talker. What a day! What a pub and its people. SEE YOU SOON as residents. :-)

Top public house and quality staff looked after us all

Reserved a table for 6, was told waiting for dinner was an 1hr, plus there was only two staff on

A hot simple meal, but tasty, enjoyable and good service. Pleasant surroundings.

First of all, we were kind of shocked to see such a friendly neighborhood. The moment we were walking in, all that we received was the kind gesture and greetings of the regular customers and the staff. It was such a great, welcoming place. We went there for a quick lunch after an official meeting, and the steak dish we ordered came on a sizzling hot skillet. The steak (medium-rare) had been cooked to perfection. The beers were served in very clean glasses at a perfect temperature. The washrooms were very accessible and clean. This restaurant has their own parking lot too, therefore, we could enjoy our food and beer peacefully. Anyone who visits Litchfield should try visiting this place :) ...

I was visiting Lichfield with my son and was looking for a pub convenient to where we were heading where we could gran some lunch. As visitors we were made to feel incredbly welcome by the very friendly staff. The food was excellent quality, superb value for money and the service was fantastic. Our lunches were on the table very quickly, and my son and I enjoyed what we were served very much. My steak came to the table sizzling and was just superb. The freshly cooked chips were the best I have tasted in a very long time. If I am ever visiting Lichfield again I would certainly visit again. Highly recommended.

Stopped for a pub lunch after a long walk. Very helpful staff, real ales and freshly prepared classic pub food. Five stars if had been just a bit cleaner around our table.

Fantastic for food. The range of cask ales is limited but it's worth a visit if you want a decent feed. It's not posh food just well cooked and good portions. It's what I would class as proper pub grub for not a lot of money.

Food here is great value, hot and tasty. Mixed grills and steaks arrived on a skillet and all were cooked as requested. Only reason for giving a 4 not 5 is that the only cask ale on offer was Pedigree which is not a favourite...but it was in decent condition.

Popped to Dr Johnson for a long awaited pint. Gotta say was very impressed with the way the management and staff worked with the covid restrictions. I sat outside on arrival and within a minute staff came out asked if I'd got the NHS App, which I had. I signed in using the app and then ordered a pint. Always a friendly welcome. Looking forward to another pint or 3 very soon.👍🏻

Went in with Daughter and she had Veggie and I had steak and chips and a Beer. Very welcoming and kind always. I had a problem with my phone signal not their fault. Let me login their Internet though said were not experts but helpful and kind. Has lots of space and nearby Nether Stowe Hair dresser Best chippy and lovely Tesco people. What more can I say. Lovely go there.

Food good , staff wonderful and couldn't do enough for you during this very difficult time for them. I took my mum and family for a meal, it was great, I will be back there when I visit from Portsmouth. Well done Dr Johnson you are brilliant.

The food was excellent for the money the lady who served us was so polite and very helpful as things are so strange with all different rules going on she had so much do rushing around serving drinks to table's meals.We thought it was an excellent place to eat good value for money and we will be back. We went out for a early Christmas get together at The Dr Johnson’s Pub. What a surprise we had to have a fantastic meal together. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our meals were great and very good value for money. We would thoroughly recommend this for a nice get together. What a great meal and a good time we all had there.

First time in this place. We were part of the wake 1.11.19 The staff were brilliant, very considerate towards us and as this is my aunties local you could see the genuine support from the staff towards my auntie. This place is not just your average local boozer its such a warm welcoming place where you feel welcomed. I look forward to returning here again under better circumstances

Interesting history of a famous English writer

John & the team laid on a lovely buffet with free tea and coffee for 40 guests. Food was freshly prepared and very tasty. We used the family room but due to numbers spilled into the lounge area. Bar service was great and clean down was very sensitively handled. Thanks to everyone who made the celebration of my Dad's life so memorable.

Nice quiet pub just off Eastern Avenue with plenty of parking spaces.

We arrived at 7.15 Friday and were told an hour to wait for food. Didn't look that busy? So can't review as didn't stay.

Be back soon ,lovely honest food,great price,been back a few times after original post poor service waited an hour for two meals last time,they said the cook hadn't come in,but weren't told this on ordering hope staff problems are sorted now

Visit here occasionally, nothing fancy but clean and welcoming. Food is freshly cooked to order, very reasonable and excellent value for money. The steaks are amazing! The best we have tasted around the area, cooked to your preference. Will be back.

A worthwhile hour visiting the ancestral home, now museum, of Dr Samuel Johnson in Lichfield Staffordshire

Being a regular to the Dr Johnson, one of the things we take for granted is the fine good, ambience and great value for money such meals offer us. Always a pleasure to eat in the lounge. For special occasions, the Management and Staff are always accommodating and work hard to make sure all your needs are met. if you haven't visited as yet, the mixed grills, amongst other things, are legendary! Thank you all at the DJ!

First impressions were a little sceptical, however once you relaxed you realise it's a very welcoming pub, and that's what it is. No pretentiousness here what you see is what you get. The menu whilst basic was honest and yet very well presented and really nice at the right price. I would certainly visit again. If in the area

Lovely food at reasonable prices

Sunday lunch is a luxury. Tender meats with freshly cooked vegetables at an astonishing price. £3.50 for half portion but what a generous amount given and £5.50 for normal size and what a lot you get. Friendly, efficient and very helpful staff. We haven’t eaten in the evening but have heard food is excellent.

Always liked the place but bar staff serve the regulars first even when your there first every customer should be treated the same and served in order they are at the bar.
