Our first visit since the new management and what a lovely suprise. The decoration is lovely, the atmosphere lovely, the staff from Josh to the rest of the team were just first rate and to top all that - good food and real ales excellent - what more do want?

The Sunday roast was perfect. The staff were new as they only opened this Tuesday. Could not fault the food or the service.

The Malt Shovel has been taken over again hopefully from what I have seen it is going to be a great success this time! The whole place has been brought back to life! The food is the best I have eaten anywhere recently and the price points are spot on for the quality of food you receive! The service from the manager and the waitress was excellent! There’s no doubt that the malt shovel is going to be our go to place from now on! Well done everyone involved in bringing this pub back to life!

Went due to new owners. Food good but overpriced a Roast dinner £20 per person, would do better if the price included a dessert. Staff friendly and attentive.

Had a great Sunday afternoon at the Malt Shovel, booked for 22 of us for my Sisters 50th. Food was absolutely amazing, outstanding in fact and everyone loved it, service was great too. Will definitely be back.

Malt shovel has now been serving food on a Sunday for a few weeks now and had heard good things about it as I live in the village. Daughter and partner came over on Sunday to give it a go. Good job I booked on the Wednesday before as fully booked when we went in. Was a lovely atmosphere with a birthday party taking place. We were seated at our table ordered drinks which were promptly bought to us. Guinness was superb. Looked at menu and 3 things on there . Beef ,Pork, and for the vegetarians Nut roast. Well we all had 1 of each so a great way ao judge all the food. I had the beef which was cooked to perfection for me being red in middle and oh so tender. Came with mash roasting cauliflower cheese and vegetables came in separate dishes and the cauliflower cheese was 1 of the best I have had . Lovely meal my daughter had the Nut roast . She isn't a vegetarian as she asked if they would put a pig in blanket on ther to which they obliged. Another excellent meal and I would certainly not hesitate in having a Nut roast. It was interesting to taste the difference in my roast potatoes and hers due to the different fat they were cooked in. And her partner had the Pork again which came with all the trimmings and crackling too. He commented how lovely that was too. Well we were not really hungry enough for a sweet but unfortunately 😕 there was Knickerbocker glory on the Menu 😛 so it had to be done and so glad we did. Was superb just reminded me of being a lad again being treated by my parents. Tinned fruit in Jelly and cream and icecream 🍦 made my day. All in all a lovely experience and will be eating there again. The night before Saturday wS there 1st night of serving food . Heard good reviews about that too so next meal probably on a Saturday evening.

I visited to try the Sunday lunch after hearing that the excellent Westwoods Bespoke Dining would be catering. Certainly was not disappointed. Staff were professional yet friendly, all dishes arrived swiftly and we were provided complementary bread to enjoy as well. Truly succulent beef cooked to perfection, delicious roast potatoes and excellent selection of veg including cauliflower cheese. Followed by the sublime chocolate and toffee torte that melts in your mouth. I believe the photos speak for themselves. Would 100% recommend to anyone craving a Sunday roast. By far one of the best I’ve ever had.

After being recommended to pop in and try a Sunday roast, we were most definitely not disappointed. We walked into a warm, friendly welcome and were seated straight away, our drinks arrived within minutes of ordering them. The menu all sounded delicious, after deliberation we both opted for beef. Our meal started with some warm bread and homemade sun dried tomato butter, it was delicious. The roast itself was superb, beef was cooked medium rare and melted In the mouth, crispy roast potatoes, the best creamy mash I have ever tasted, Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese and seasonal veg cooked to perfection. I asked for extra gravy and it came straight away. Nothing was too much trouble. For dessert I opted for the Eaten Mess and wow I was not disappointed, homemade meringue, fresh raspberries and cream, my husband had frangipane tart and custard and said it was delicious. I can honestly say this was the best roast dinner that I have had out, excellent value, excellent service and outstanding food. We shall return.

We had my sons Communion at the Malt Shovel on Sat 8th June. Mick and all of the staff were some of the most accommodating people I have ever encountered. Nothing was too much trouble. They were attentive from the get go and their venue was amazing for what we needed. The kids loved the park and we all had the best day ... I highly recommend this place for any gathering you may be considering. It was awesome

Very poor food. Chips burnt and greasy. Pies burnt. Steak not cooked as ask. Place was empty so no atmosphere. Lasagne dried up and not much sauce. Microwave food better. The only good thing was the girls who served us. Definitely will not be going back.

Lovely Sunday lunch and great service. We did go with an elderly relative in November and he thought the dinning area should have had the heating on as he felt cold.

After reading the reviews I was looking forward to visiting the malt shovel although a little pricey. Starters were good, two beef mains were returned as could not cut the meat, when told the staff they offered sharper knives? Another meal was offered but friends decided to try the chicken which I had also ordered, this was also hard to cut and tasteless. Puddings were ok. Overpriced drinks and charged double the amount for soft drinks although this was removed from the bill. Very disappointed and will not visit again, place was quarter full which did not represent the reviews. Sorry i sound negative but best people know. Roy.

Sunday lunch was lovely. Very busy at 2pm. Had to wait between courses, but it was well worth it. A bit noisy with it being busy. Will go back when it's not so busy.

Spent a fabulous night celebrating my 50th Birthday at the Malt Shovel. Its tastefully decorated and has a very welcoming atmosphere. The food was delicious, really fresh and tasty, and realistically priced. The service was excellent, staff were wonderful and friendly. I received a birthday card and glass of prosecco from the team which was a lovely unexcepted touch but shows the focus on customer service. I've not visited in over 10 years but will absolutely be back very soon. Thanks to the team for making my night special.

We spent a 2 night short break here on there caravan site and it was fab. Great price at £22.50 a night with electric hook up , no charge for dog or awning 👍 Spent the Saturday night dinning in the pub and the meals where superb we had the Golden Cod which was red hot when it was bought to our table and was delicious The Staff were very helpful and were not shy in having a conversation with you , nothing was to much for them thank you to all We will be returning

Both ordered cod, they only had 1!!! 1 cod on a Friday evening?? My husband ordered rib eye steak and it looked more like a sirloin. Food finally arrived, stone cold!! Sent it back and left, definitely wouldn't recommend

25 minutes to order a first drink, 50 minutes to order food. Had to ask for the table to be cleaned as we were sticking to it. Mushroom soup was so peppery, it was inedible. The halloumi fries were burnt and greasy. Then came the mains – My burger was burnt, but the fries were under cooked. The risotto was hard and the sauce was like it was out of a packet. The prawn linguine had prawns which had not been cleaned and still had their digestive tract. The gammon was so salty, and was also undercooked. The manager was crying because she had had a busy day and was pregnant. We were told that her mother had left before Christmas and she was finding it too much now she was in charge. We had been before when her mother was the manager and it was excellent, but no more. She admitted that the food was awful as they were a chef down and her partner had stepped in to cook – so why did she allow it to leave the kitchen? She said that there would be no charge for the food. When it comes down to it, we go to a restaurant to have a wonderful meal and experience. We could have been telephoned to advise that the chef had not turned up. This would have been better than having to go through an awful evening. It was like a scene out of a drama, with crying, smashing of glasses, horrible food – just a nightmare of an evening and terribly managed. We will not be returning, even with the 20% discount offered. It was probably the worst meal I have ever had. Such a shame for a pub which was once excellent.

6 of us for a meal last night, staff were great, friendly didn’t rush us at all, food was very good. Seemed that there was a group of “professional” complainers who got away without paying, amazingly managed to eat ALL the food though - no wonder this trade is dying!! 10/10 from us, and will be back.

We came for a birthday meal and it was absolutely lovely. It was our first time here and we'll definitely be back again. The staff were really helpful, the food was faultless and the restaurant was beautifully decorated.

Function for 50+ people, ages ranging from 5 to 80 years. Lovely venue, helpful and accommodating staff, great food and brilliant atmosphere. Highly recommend 👍

Hesitate to recommend because don't want it to be too much more popular. But terrific Sunday lunches, generous meat and everything cooked very well.

Stayed overnight in the motorhome (CL site space for 5 motorhomes all hard standing with electric and water). Watched the rugby in the bar sat next to the open fire and then a fantastic meal in the restaurant. Highly recommend!

Just returned home after visiting with my husband and daughter. Although we have been for drinks, not eaten here in 2 years but so glad we did. Could not fault the food, it was gorgeous, very well presented and tasted soo good. Also very gud portions too. Service brilliant and very friendly staff, thanks to Daniel for the Steak pies, made by himself, well that’s what he told us 😂, but we will definitely be going back again soon. My family and I enjoyed a lovely evening here. The food was beautifully presented and tasted just as good as it looked! The service was amazing, all of the staff were friendly, attentive and efficient. We were made to feel like incredibly welcomed and valued guests. We really couldn't have asked for better food or service. Would highly recommend to anyone wishing to enjoy great food and wonderful service in a beautiful setting. Came for Sunday dinner last weekend and have booked again this weekend, the food was excellent and the service was equally as good! Really lovely staff. Definitely would recommend if you are looking for a Sunday dinner and glad I came after a recommendation from a friend.

Have eaten here on multiple occasions, most recently with friends that were visiting from London and they do not disappoint. Friends had steaks; ribeye and a fillet (recommended by one of the staff members), I had the fish and chips. Portion sizes were great (definitely didn’t leave hungry) my friends said the steaks were cooked to perfection and my fish was fantastic. They were happy to substitute some of the sides for other options on the menu and the waiting staff were really friendly. Pub was warm and cosy with a really nice chilled atmosphere for a Saturday afternoon. Will definitely be visiting again. Really hard to find pubs like this that offer great food, drinks, decor and staff. Also noticed some children friendly events they are advertising for half term week. Would highly recommend this place. There really aren’t many like it around.

Went to visit, for a swift half, after many a year. Only had an Aspall and Zinfandel but fabulous spot, and service was great. No dry roasted so lost a star

Absolute rubbish,food was TERRIBLE COLD CHEWY - DRY - I HAD PORK - bad news. Place is ok as a pub and the settling with little park, but wont be going back. Starters dreadful. Not cheap either..... The table also next to us of 4 adults and 4 kids all had the beef - and all returned there plates, as the beef was smelly and off beef..... Got talking to them and said the pork was dreadful. - the veg was cold and stale and the roast potatoes were old and re heated that stale taste. Not fresh as I myself shops in a local farm and no good meat and veg. I've uploaded to photos... says it all Coverd in hot tasteless gravy to hide the heat of food..... HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!!

All I can say is what a very nice meal it as enjoyed by everyone but the thing that made it was the staff they were unbelievable how they bent over backwards to help you and made the visit enjoyable. Well done Malt shovel you...

We went for the bottomless and it was the best one I've been too. The food was excellent and you can choose from the normal menu so its not a reduced menu loads of choice. The Salmon was fabulous. There is also a wide range of drinks too chose from and the cocktails are proper cocktails not the jam jar ones. I will definitely be going back. Highly recommend this place.

Met some friends for a meal, lovely country pub and very well presented. The food was a little slow coming but was definitely well worth the wait, steaks perfectly cooked and tasty sauce, plenty of side salad and a massive bowl of peas, followed by some lovely desserts, also the serving staff made for an excellent and fun night, live entertainment was a little loud and drowned out conversation. We will be back soon

I've been coming to the Malt Shovel since the late 70's. This time was for a two night stop over in the motorhome and a meal in the restaurant. The pub itself retains its charm, together with the great hospitality by the current hosts. Good food and craft beers welcome you here. The motorhome area is set aside from pub and car parking by a secured gate. All the facilities to hand, mains hookup, fresh water and chemical desposal point. Neatly kept lawns and field area lead to a meadow with a duck pond, provide a tranquil and safe walking area. Idyllic. We will definitely visit again and can easily recommend to anyone wishing to stay over or simply enjoy the charm of the pub.
