Great location and nice interior. But we went for lunch and were told that they weren’t taking any orders as they were too busy. There would be at least at 45min wait. So we left and had lunch elsewhere. The staff looked pretty miserable and they must be losing so much money due to lost orders. Gordon Ramsay would have a field day here!

I used to live in Lichfield and used to love popping in here for lunch or a coffee. Surroundings, service and food was great. Hadn't been for a while and visited in October 2022 to find it completely different. It has gone downhill fast. It is now called Bistro 19 and I can only think it must be under new management. The decor is horrible (dark green if I remember rightly), most of the staff look miserable, a very long wait (over 20 mins) just for a hot drink and a cake (although they brought the drinks out quickly but by the time the cakes arrived, our drinks had gone cold), expensive (£12 just for a coffee, a tea and a scone and teacake), drinks served in cups that looked like builder's mugs with saucers and scone was dry and hard. I guess this place will always be busy simply because of it's location - right by the cathedral - and because the gardens are nice but if it was anywhere else it wouldn't last 5 minutes. It needs to make some vast improvements if it wants customers to return. This is not Chapters, it's called Bistro 19. People should check out their reviews to see I'm not the only one who feels this way.

This cafe has gone downhill fast over the last few years. The service was slow and very poor. It took over 15 minutes for a simple cup of coffee to arrive. No spoon was provided to stir it. The menu used to be good and varied with something for everyone. Now the menu is very sparse: breakfasts (all day they say); jacket potatoes ("sorry we've run out"); pie with chips or mash ("sorry, there's no mash"); and a few more things. A sign asks people to speak to staff about their allergies ("No. We don't have anything gluten-free.") There was nothing I could eat, so I decided to go hungry. Others at my table ordered food - it all came eventually, but all at different times and without cutlery. Two people had the pies which looked limp and uninteresting and the "chips" were feeble and not very hot apparently (presumably frozen and heated up a bit). I was glad I had decided to go hungry. Best to avoid this place, unless you want nothing for lunch or are prepared to eat uninspiring, poor quality food and poor service.

First visit since lockdown. Was always excellent on our previous visits pre March 2020. A shadow of its former self. I can only assume now run by different people as the service and food were both appalling. When the breakfast eventually arrived item's were missing. The bacon and mushrooms over cooked and the beans cold. Much better alternatives available nearby at cheaper prices.

I have eaten here many times pre-pandemic. The breakfasts were always amazing. Ate here again today for the first time in a couple a years. The full english described sounded amazing, it wasn't! It was £9.95 so not cheap at all. My orange juice tasted odd (it came from a britvic bottle). The staff looked bored, were not very friendly at all and showed no enthusiasm. After waiting 25 minutes for the food, whilst others that came in after us, were served before us, it was awful. I have no idea what they'd done to the mushrooms, it looked like they'd cremated them. They were inedible. The bacon was shriveled and burnt, the sausages overcooked and beans stone cold. What was most annoying was they'd forgotten our eggs. How can you cook a breakfast and forget to do the eggs? We had to ask for them and they were brought 5 minutes later, the egg was the only hot part of the food. I got the impression they'd spent time feeding everyone else and had just overcooked ours or had overcooked it and kept it warm whilst serving others. It was unappetising, burnt and cold. The only thing I would say is that someone else's bacon sandwich looked lovely. Will not return and will now prefer to try elsewhere.

Great little spot right next to the cathedral. We had a round of tasty sandwiches, a BLT and a Brie and cranberry. The service was perfect. Very nice place to enjoy lunch. There is a garden. The place also welcomes cyclists. There isn’t a sign above the door (today) so look for the small sign by the steps up to the front door. They also do homemade cake.

In a city that has more of it’s fair share of restaurants and coffee shops, Chapters punch’s well above its weight. Opposite the Cathedral this eatery does breakfasts , light lunches and afternoon teas and cakes. The food is excellent quality very reasonably priced and the staff are friendly. The best part is that all the profits go to the upkeep of the Cathedral. In the summer there is a secluded garden and the atmosphere is lovely. Just don’t tell anyone!

I was taking a day out from my narrow-boat to visit nearby Lichfield, a city I have never visited before. I wandered around for a while and ended up at the cities medieval cathedral. After the visit to the cathedral I decided on some lunch before returning to my boatThe Chapters cafe is right next to the cathedral in the Cathedral Close..It was lunchtime and fairly busy but I managed to secure a seat and order one of the specials of the day, a Mushroom and Stilton Pannini, accompanied by a flat white coffee. After 15 minutes my coffee arrived, it was very busy and the staff were very apologetic for the delay, I was asked if I was waiting for anything else and said yes, I was still without my Pannini. Another 15 minutes passed so I went to cash register just to double check. Oh dear, there had been an oversight and the Pannini order hadn't reached the kitchen. After multiple apologies and a complimentary second coffee the Pannini arrived, it was fine, if not a little flavorless. The coffee however, was delicious, and at the end of the day I had shared a pleasant chat with the lady I was sharing a table with. I did get what I ordered and it was not bad value.Would I recommend the Chapters Cafe, yes, I would because despite the oversight the staff were all very friendly and apologetic. These things happen, the venue has a great ambience with a the view of the cathedral and a lovely courtyard garden area for the warmer months. The dining area was packed and 99% of the patrons were getting their food in a reasonable time.So if you are looking for an interesting day out give Lichfield a go, the city has many interesting historic buildings, including a medieval cathedral with Chapters Cafe right next door. It was difficult to decide what to have from the varied menu, but I had vegetable lasagne, my son had omelette and his girlfriend had jacket potato with tuna mayo. Cathedral linked coffee shops are often a hidden gem in UK cities. This one is in a delightful setting, with a lovely walled garden, in the shadows of the impressive cathedral. It’s off the beaten track of the city centre so has to rely on its reputation. But it’s very handy for the long stay Bird Lane car park. The service was friendly, efficient and quick. There is a huge choice of drinks, snacks and a better than average range of wonderful home made cakes. Plenty of seating - inside and out. And all the profits are invested in the cathedral (also well worth a visit).

We initially went in for a coffee before we went on to explore Lichfield. The staff were all friendly and helpful. We returned after our visit to the cathedral for a well deserved coffee and cake, which did not disappoint. The profits do go to help with the upkeep of the cathedral and is certainly no more expensive than most local coffee shops, cheaper than most of the chain coffee shops. The cakes were all fresh and looked as if they were made locally, certainly very nice.

I have had some nice food here in the past but called in for lunch with friend on Wednesday on a wet day and found it rather dreary and in need of updating. The only salad available was with Quiche which is not exactly a healthy option with the pastry and eggs and when I asked the young waitress if they could substitute chicken or ham which was available in other items on the menu I was refused. It was such a reasonable easy request that I am afraid I shall not be returning especially as we spotted a rat which we at first thought was a squirrel but it lacked the bushy tail climbing up the plant on the wall outside the window !

We popped in really for a cuppa and some soup. However, upon looking at the menu and the number of rooms available we thought we'd have a cooked meal. My wife opted for the meat pie with potatoes, whilst I went for the Vegetarian Lasagne (sorry with chips). The meat pie was large and contained "proper meat". The portions were generous, the food piping hot as were the plates. The sauce came in a small glass jar not a plastic sachet - good for the environment. The tea and extra hot water was also more than ample and all served with hot cups. The price for the meals were magnificent £8 each. The room we sat in was wonderful as it over looked the 13th C garden. The tables were very reasonably spaced.

Me and my boyfriend has the 'winter warmer' each, liver and bacon - both big fans of that dish and had it in various pubs, cafe's and bistro's. What we received was truly horrid. It had been over stewed to the point it had the texture of watery pate and tasted of over rotten game seeped in wee. The bacon was chopped into the over stewed mush and also lost its flavour and constitution. Never mind, can cope with a badly done dish so long as there is compensatory action. Informed a waitress who although nice did not return to us, did not offer a reduction or an alternative. Left after having spend £30 in all with a bad taste in my mouth. Scones were great.

Enjoyed our lunch in the garden of this cafe located in the Cathedral close. First class service and good value, freshly prepared food make this an outstanding spot for refreshment when in Lichfield.

We visited on a Monday morning and the café was quiet despite it being the Easter holidays. The position is lovely - opposite the cathedral. The building is Georgian and full of character. The bacon sandwiches we had were on crusty bread and very tasty. My only niggle was my coffee got cold quite quickly. Probably because it was in a cup rather than a mug. I guess cups are more genteel and in keeping in with the style of the cafe though. There were several rooms to the cafe which would accommodate more people on busier days. We had a very tranquil breakfast. I eyed the cakes which looked very tempting, so I will be going again! I visited 'the ladies' on the way out. It was very clean, fragrant and the tiled decor appropriate for the style of the building.

First visit - tucked away by Lichfield Cathedral this beautiful Georgian house is in a lovely setting. We sat in the conservatory admiring the tea garden as it was a sunny day.

We live locally & had never been in before, it has a delightful tiny conservatory on the back, but I'm afraid the coffee was poor & the cake pretty awful. That & a screw sticking through the cushion of the chair that drew blood doesn't tempt us back!

This is the third time have been here. Excellent high quality ingredients and lovely portions. Reasonably priced and clean and well decorated. We have been in Lichfield for just over a year and this is now our favourite place in Lichfield that serves food during the day.

Called in with a girl friend for lunch on a bright February lunchtime. Light airy room at the back is a bit reminiscent of a guest house but a nice range of snacks. We had the pie of the day with veg and an omelette with salad. Nice to be able to get something without chips. Service was good. Will definitely go back again.

Met a friend for a light lunch last week. Have been before and has always been ok. We ordered turkey, Brie and cranberry sandwiches - one white and one brown. The bread was the cheapest sliced bread, slightly stale. Salad was mostly chopped up peppers and a little bit of tomato.

Went here one Sunday dinnertime for a sandwich and a pot of tea. Nice place next to the cathedral. My girlfriend had a ham and brie sandwich which looked lovely with nice chunky ham. I had egg which was excellent as well. Probably try a full meal next time. A real bug bear of mine is when you order a pot of tea and don't get extra water but here you do get lots of extra water. The cakes also looked nice. will return soon.

Visited for dinner - omelette, chips, peas.... chips were ? parboiled & fried or had been left awhile before frying and hence were just a shell containing frying oil - and inedible. Omelette was, unfortunately, served with the oil from the pan too; hence an unpleasant meal. The staff were friendly, welcoming, polite and organised; and as it became busier they had a "doorman" helping people find seats, direct people etc which was very good to see, especially as there seemed a lot of coaches visiting the city. The food in general looked good quality and fresh; although my meal was disappointing when I visited, this is not usually the case. They have a great selection of dishes on offer at reasonable prices.

Myself and 6 friends descended without a booking on The Chapters today. Despite being busy we were found a table large enough to accommodate us all in comfort. Amazing home cooked food was quickly prepared and served. We were made very welcome and Rachel even made time to take a few group photos that we will share in our Veterans Magazine later in the year. Highly recommend this charming and unique cafe hidden away near Lichfield Cathedral. If it wasn't for the rain we would have missed an already treasured memory. Thank you Rachel and your team.

Went due to new owners. Food good but overpriced a Roast dinner £20 per person, would do better if the price included a dessert. Staff friendly and attentive.
