Unfortunately I didn't get to try anything at this cafe. My party and another party stood waiting to be sitted, 3 members of staff walked past and said "be with you in a minute" that minute never came, so we all walked out and went next door to the 'Dam good cafe' which was fine.

We were in the area today and decided to have brunch at Poms. We were greeted and seated down straight away and the order for drinks and food was taken promptly. We ordered two Turkish egg dishes, one iced pistachio matcha latte and one passion fruit and papaya matcha latte. The drinks took a while to arrive, which we were understanding about since we saw it was really busy. When they finally arrived, I could not taste the papaya in my drink at all and my partner's drink had a horrible artificial taste of pistachio. The matcha tasted more like milk than green tea... The food also took some time to arrive and it was okay, the eggs were runny and the yoghurt sauce was nice. However, we thought it was quite expensive for what it turned out to be (£12 pounds/portion)- a small portion of 2 poached eggs with a bit of onion on top and two slices of toast. When we asked for the bill, it took 20 minutes for it to arrive and we were not told you can remove the service charge. In normal circumstances, I don't mind paying that but the service was very poor today and it felt a bit cheeky to be asking for that. I think you should be more transparent as a business about what you're charging. The staff were lovely and helpful and they are clearly working very hard. However, our experience was really disappointing and we will sadly not be returning.

Just visited for a bit of brunch, choose the brioche sausage and bacon, one of each for our table. The hot drinks order was taken very promptly and delivered to the table at the same time that the staff came back to take a food order. The food took an age to be delivered and by then the tea (or what gets served for tea was cold). At this point We were asked if we wanted any sauces, we said yes please, they never arrived. The icing on the cake was when we were told that a service charge had been added automatically but we were told it was optional, Needless to say we removed it. Won’t be in a hurry to go back!!

I’ve been to Poms a number of times over the years and it had become my ‘go-to’ when visiting Lichfield from Stafford, but I’ve come to accept that the quality has gone downhill. I had the Eggs Royale today and had to send the first lot back as the eggs were nearly hard-cooked. The second lot was fine but everything was lukewarm at best. The biggest problem was the very poor quality bap on which it was served. The coffee, which I could see sitting on the counter for quite some time before it was brought to me, was weak and on the way to being cool. The staff are pleasant, but someone’s cutting corners on the food. For £15.50 for a couple of eggs I expected better. Sorry, Poms. Our love affair seems to be over.

Lovely Cafe / eatery we have been using regularly over the last couple of years, whilst the service and ambience is good we have recognised a noticeable reduction in portion size but also what appears to be an increase in cost and charges. My poached eggs on sourdough I would not order again as the piece of sourdough for 2 poached eggs was rather small and toasted to within an inch of its life and my partners French toast was rather dry. Moving forward I think any visits will be for coffee and a pastry only.

Poms is a really lovely place to have brunch. The staff went above and beyond with their service and hospitality. The atmosphere is warm and cosy. Food wise, there is a big brunch menu with lots of choices. The only thing I didn’t like was the avocado which is mixed in with raw red onion. I personally found it a bit overpowering, but that’s my personal preference. Overall, I would recommend this establishment to anyone visiting Lichfield.

My husband and I had visited Poms a few weeks previously and had such a lovely experience that we decided to return on our next visit to Lichfield. This visit was completely the opposite. We hadn't booked, so we were grateful that we were found a table. The cafes atmosphere was busy and vibrant with lots of Christmas shoppers. On our last visit, we had a lovely, friendly waitress, a young blonde lady who couldn't be more helpful. This time, the waitress, a brunette woman, was direct, matter of fact, and lacking in friendliness. She took our orders and we were left to wait for drinks. They arrived a while later. The food order, however, took quite a while later, over half an hour, but it was rather busy so we didn't complain. When the food did arrive I was so disappointed. My husband had ordered the poms breakfast, so you can't really go wrong with that, but I had ordered the chicken kebab skewer with garlic tahini, tomato sauce and something else. What I got was a blacked chicken skewer that from taste was coated in Chinese 5 spice in my opinion but I could be wrong. Expecting it to be hot and juicy, it was semi warm, cold in places, dry to the point that it was grainy to eat, lacked any moisture or natural fats, I doubt very much that it was really barbecued. The rest of the dish was an even bigger disaster. Everything, and I mean everything was straight out of a very cold fridge. The tomato sauce (pasta with a few herbs in), the huge dolop of mayo garlicky taking, polenta or cuscus, I couldn't be sure, was crumbles with large lumps in oh and the flat bread, which as with the skewer, was meant to be hot was now stone cold as it had been lying on a plate of freezing cold ingredients. The whole experience of this dish was not pleasant, at all. The waitress did appear mid meal to see if things were OK (as I pushed the food around my plate), I just hummed and let her get on. I doubted anything could be done to save it to be honest and I really don't like to complain. When my husband had finished we asked for the bill. When it arrived and we were asked again about our meal, I mentioned that it wasn't a pleasant experience, the waitress got very defensive, reminding me that she had come and asked previously, in quite a defiant manner. I explained the issues but she argued back so I really couldn't be bothered to waste my time or energy any further and we paid and left. We won't be returning and I think the added 10% that they charge is quite cheeky, it's not a high end restaurant and the food is very expensive, my dish was 17 for fridge cold food and a dry tasteless skewer. So £41 something for brunch and unfriendly service, no, I know we won't be returning.

Disappointed. I have been with my family to Poms today. What happened was shocking. I have ordered for my little one a “English muffin with jam and butter” (£4). They served me half muffin. I asked where the other half was as I have ordered a muffin and not half. Therefore, they served me with the other half, in a small plate on its own. I have asked for the bill and they wanted to charge me £8 for the English muffin because I asked the “other half”. I explained that the menu mentioned an English muffin and not “half portion”. I found their request for £8 shocking. I needed to insist that the menu was misleading and was not acceptable to pay £8 for A plain muffin to have that removed from the bill. It is a shame, I was a regular customer and I find the quality great but I will not go again.

A lovely brunch cafe with good food. I really enjoy my mushroom on toast. All elements go really well with each other. Poached eggs are a bit hard, but still runny. The only thing that I didn’t enjoy much is the atmosphere. It was quite busy at the time of my visit, which I didn’t mind really. However, they put tables a bit closed to each other to make the most of the space, so it felt a bit sardined 😂

Dissappointing visit for us. We went in after being recommended we go here and since we were in the area we did. Not the best recpetion I have had but none the less we got a seat in the not overly busy restaurant. We ordered soup and a role and two latte coffees. The home made Tomato and Basil soup looked delicious in the bowl but upon eating it the flavour was a complete let down. It was so watery, it looked creamy but tasted watery and even adding our own salt and pepper did not save it. It wasn't disgusting but it was not enjoyable. The coffee there is a choclolty bean whcih is nice for one cup and quite enjoyable, it;s a shame that the execution from the Barista was the worst we have ever experienced. It was more like a coffee shake than a latte. The milk texture was very poor, all bubbles rather than microfoam. Needless to say we won't be going back. It might have been us catching a bad day.

£3.20 for possibly the world’s smallest teapot. When I saw the size of the mug I thought “well, at least I’ll get two cups”, but no. Cunningly hidden under a (cute) tea cosy so not obvious when it arrived. Food wasn’t bad, but the prices! £4 to add “This” veggie bacon when a whole packet is £3.50 in a supermarket. My wife and I have been coming here for a few years now but early this week will be the last time. The food has gone down hill and the prices are ridiculous. The “Poms Breakfast” is £18 if you add black pudding and it doesn’t even come with bread / toast. When I asked the waitress she said it’s an extra charge or you can remove an item and replace it with toast… it was unbelievable. Then when the breakfast came it was tiny and had only 1 sausage and 1 very dry piece of bacon. I’ve never felt so ripped off for breakfast. They even tried to add a 10% service charge to the bill which I made them remove out of principle. Honestly, save your money and go somewhere else. There’s loads of better places to eat breakfast in Lichfield

We’ve been a frequent visitor to the Lichfield Pom’s for a while and still enjoyed our most recent visit. Food quality is good, staff are friendly but I would agree with some of the other reviews regarding portion size, value for money etc. I also appreciate the restaurants response to some of this feedback and know how tough it is for small independent hospitality venues so accept that when I book and dine with them. For me the quality of the food and the service, plus the location (same with the Barton venue) means I will continue to support them by visiting when I can and would encourage others too as well, it really is a lovely spot.

Breakfast came with no bread which is fine if the price reflected it, made the avocado are bit useless. I’m not a stranger to coffee shops/cafes but the price does not reflect the food or portion. Drink were around £5-6 with milk changes which is crazy, that’s a decent meal in some places. It’s a shame but I probably won’t dine here after going for a while, due to the price increases. It pains me to write this review but our favourite breakfast cafe Poms is not what it once was unfortunately. Me and my partner have long been big fans of Poms, along with many of our friends who have visited following our recommendations, but unfortunately the quality and attention to detail has dropped and no longer justifies their premium pricing. To give some examples, some of the classic Poms menu items that made it unique such as the Mexican Hash, Crab and Crayfish Benedict, Turkish Eggs, and Shakshuka have vanished, replaced with a more mainstream menu. The potato tots have also disappeared. Poms’ USP was always as a breakfast/brunch cafe with unique menu items so a move to a more generic menu is a shame. The Poms Breakfast I had last visit was poorer than the breakfasts I have had historically, with a dry sausage in a ring shape (the breakfast had high quality normal shaped sausages previously), fatty hard bacon, and dry black pudding (at a cost of £2.50 extra). Perhaps a one off but the food was always perfect previously. The other disappointment linking into my point about Poms being unique originally was the downgrade of the sauces (they were originally Hawkshead Relish Company sauces). For example no fruity brown sauce is available anymore, just standard HP or Heinz Ketchup. Fine in a Wetherspoons but an exercise in cheapening which is unnecessary and a real shame. I hope Poms take this as constructive criticism as customers who used to visit regularly, as we would be willing to give it another chance if so.

It’s disappointing that I feel the necessity to write this review. I have been going to POMS for several years, frequently with my family and friends for casual and birthday events. The quality of the food and service has been excellent, the reason we went there. However, more recently they have increased the prices and at the same time reduced the portion sizes and removed items, that were once included, from the brunch dishes. They also have a habit of asking you when you are ordering a breakfast if you want toast, or for example, black pudding. What they don’t tell you is that they add the cost onto the meal! If you are paying £15 plus for a breakfast you should not have to pay extra for a slice of toast! Also, why do they have to charge an extra 50p, on top of the price, for a decaffinated coffee! In summary, overpriced, money grabbing at every opportunity, the irony is that I can afford to pay the prices, but it is the principal and I don’t like getting ripped off! Won’t be going back.

I used to love coming to Poms, we would drive up from Birmingham every few months for brunch! My last visit however was quite disappointing, I had my usual, the breakfast and I wasn’t sure if they had mistakenly given me a child’s breakfast (they hadn’t, as was clarified when the bill came out) the portion sizes have drastically reduced but the price hasn’t to reflect this, my other half had French toast (her usual) and she too remarked that the portion size was a lot smaller than our last visit! It’s worth noting that the food itself was delicious! Nearly £16 for one slice of bacon, one sausage, one tiny mushroom and tomato, about 10 cubed potato’s, the biggest portion on the plate was the beans! I don’t know why you’ve removed the muffin you used to give and halved everything else, but a disappointing visit and I certainly will not be rushing back

Went for Father’s Day brunch with my two boys .First time we’ve been in here for a while and the reduced portion size on the breakfast was evident .Quality of the breakfast was ok apart from the bacon which was over cooked and hard ,when you’re spending £15.00 on a brekki you expect it to be good . There was also no pancakes on the main menu only as a child’s portion . The tea was also poor even after steeping the bag for a long time ,a good quality tea bag should be a minimum when spending a small fortune on a breakfast . I also think adding the service charge to the total then telling the customer it’s optional is not on ,you put the customer in an awkward position ,I always tip if the overall experience is good . On the plus side The service was great ,very friendly bunch and the restaurant decor is lovely .

Lovely place to eat.Great food, coffee and cocktails. Sheree stands out as a lovely member of staff here.Extremely welcoming and professional and so refreshing to see someone taking a pride in customer service. She was lovely to our dog too and brought him water and a special dog menu. Will always come here when in Lichfield and will always recommend.

Definitely upped their game since the last time I visited. The quality of the food was great, although very much on the pricey side.

Lovely experience at Poms when I took my mum for a birthday brunch - Sherie our waitress was very attentive and treated mum to a glass of Prosecco on the house, a lovely touch. Thoroughly enjoyed it and would recommend :)

What a fabulous brunch we had today! We shared two dishes - The Croque Madam was sublime - excellent quality bread, great cheese and proper ham with a fabulous Smokey mustard sauce ( I’m buying a jar on our next visit) - then the lemon meringue French toast was a light as air, very lemony and just perfect

Popped in to have a coffee with a friend. Shown to a table but unfortunately it was right under a speaker and the music was a little too loud for us to chat. When gentleman came to take order we asked if we could move to another table which we did which was slightly quieter.

I've frequented Pom's for many years. The food is always of a high standard and everything is as locally sourced as possible. The ambience of the restaurant is beautiful and the waiting staff are extremely good. However, as others have mentioned, there's the issue of a service charge (AKA tip). I have NO problem whatsoever in tipping for exceptional service. But not when someone is carrying out their normal duties, Unfortunately customers are asked within earshot of other diners if you want to keep the service charge or for them to remove it. Today for instance, not one person asked for it to be removed except me that is! Yes we know this is standard these days but most establishments give you the option of declining our accepting via the keypad on the mobile device (discretely). I love Poms but surely this could be asked in a more discrete manner?

I love Poms. We had a family meal of 12 on Saturday and every single persons meal was spot on. A few cocktails and food later and leaving extremely happy. Thank you for fitting us all in at short notice. 5* service 5* food and 5* company.

Lovely lunch - had the duck salad and chips and my son had a sausage muffin. Great now dogs are allowed too! Nice tea/coffee/cakes and staff are really friendly. Will return. Advise to book as can get busy especially at the weekend.

Turkish eggs with sour dough, lets start again, normally the place is full. Reservation is needed to even sit down outside. It must take 1 mill a year business. The food is fresh by the chef who must work hard, as its not out of a can. Amazing hour. Oh yeah, coffee to wake up the dead. Another visit, moving my rating to 5 stars, because it's worth it. There is an entry we tried, can you find it?

Lovely place, can appreciate for a Saturday they were busy, we were seated pretty fast, but had to wait way too long for a round of drinks, reason for only staying for one, but had a lovely aperol spritz.
