I can honestly say it was the best chippy tea we’ve had in a long time. Clean, welcoming and friendly service. Will be returning!

Excellent Service, The fish and Chips I had this evening were really good. Soft flaky cod with a crisp batter. The Curry sauce was delicious aswell. 10/10

Over priced, poor quality . Has gone downhill since change of ownership. Go elsewhere. Have been a customer for over 15 years but no more.

Was told this place was good, understatement, it is excellent! Normally we only eat fish n chips from the coast on holidays but this is every bit as good. We also had a Greek meze box...wow proper nice. Great place for a takeaway, and spotlessly clean 👌 five 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟

Because of roadworks I feared I would never actually get out of Alrewas, so feeling peckish I called in at the Fryer. The shop is clean, bright and welcoming. I ordered the smallest portion of fish and chips and was a little taken aback at the price....£7.50. This is between £1 and £2 MORE than I usually pay at any of the chippies not so far away. When I opened the tray I found a small serving of chips, rather less than I'm used to, and the fish was quite grey and unappetising. Was it cod or haddock or neither? Maybe I just arrived on a bad day.

We are staying in the village for a couple of days. We were really pleased to see that Tuesday nights there are gluten free choices. Also had a really quick response when I messaged them re allergies. My son was over the moon to be able to have fish in batter from a chip shop for the first time.

This is our local fish and chip shop takeaway. It is consistently good!! This weekend though they have a special on. Hake!! I could not fault it. Soft, flaky, tasty, crunchy batter, well cooked, fresh, and hot!! Other dishes included the Mixed Gyros, and a Mixed Meat and Chips. All was very tasteful, hot, and cooked very well. This was at a time when it was very busy, must of been 20+ people waiting for there takeaway. Great work to you all at the Alrewas Fryer!!!

Choice excellent. Food whatever it is is fresh, cooked perfectly. Best takeaway I've had in years. Whether it be just fish and chips, or pie,or kebab.

Really enjoyed our food- the battered sausage was the best I have ever had and the chips were lovely. We live on a boat and this was a flying (or should I say frying) visit! Will definitely come here again when we’re back in the area.

It is some months since we visited the Alrewas Fryer. We had Fish & Chips and a Pie with some side sauces. The food and the cooking was superb and the online ordering efficient. Thank you Alex and staff. We will return.

I have to say (and I’ve been living in this village for 18 years) the Fryer has always been a terrific take away, quality is excellent. They have now included a Greek selection of meals and take away items which is lovely. I am particularly fond of the halloumi salad. It has fresh ingredients- onion, tomatoes, olives and cucumber. The halloumi - although tasty- is only 2 pieces….and costs £5.20. A block of halloumi (which has about 7-8 slices costs around £2.50. So I realise there is cooking and prep but x2 small slices is a little bit mean? I mentioned this and the response was ‘that’s what we serve’….ho hum.

Haven’t visited this chip shop for a few years due a moving out of the area but loved it for many years in the past. Visited today and although under new management was greeted by the same friendly face I’ve known for many years, she remembered me also remembered my oh so regular order! The food was even better than before, fabulous well cooked chips, fantastic chicken kebab and loved how after cutting the chicken was then placed on a hot plate! Very busy but expectedly so with such good food.. really enjoyed our meal, will be back 👍🏼

The food from this Chippy has always been excellent everytime I go. I've tried various meals from there. The staff are always polite, even when busy. (I am very fussy when it comes to chippes as my Aunt and Uncle had one and theirs was superb).

Must have caught this on an off day, staff were lethargic and took an age to serve us, food was mediocre, didn't have what was on menu, staff seemed to think it was ok to make it up with extra portions of other ingredients!, Wasn't a good experience for me, go try it yourself and make your own mind up ! 😰

Got served quickly then waited whilst the food was freshly cooked. The fish was huge for regular and was tasty. The chips were great and we enjoyed the Irish curry sauce. What a great chippy.

My partner came from Lichfield Thur night when to got some fish and chips ,got back home to Walton still hot ,fish was very tasty I would recommend it

Have used this Fish & Chip shop occasionally for some years and have been happy to do the 20 mile around trip as the food has been consistently good and the staff are great. However since Jan 2022, a new owner has taken over and orders are no longer taken over the phone, one has to use Facebook. Not everyone is on Facebook!!! We’ve been twice this year and on both visits the fish has been too big, the batter is not crisp and is placed on top of the chips in an arty farty box, which becomes one big soggy mess when we get home. Disappointing.

Many years ago I gave this chippy 1 star and pretty much slated it. After the manager invited me to review it again which I did in 2020 and revised my review and noticed the improvement where I was able to give 3 stars. Well, I visited again last week. And I'm pleased to say that it has improved further and I can now give it 4 stars. So well done. Well cooked chips, and nice crispy batter on pretty much near perfectly cooked fish. And generous portions too. One criticism: Nowhere near enough salt and vinegar.

Fish and pie were both very nice. Unfortunately the chips, although a good portion, were very greasy. The kebab was one of the smallest that I have purchased anywhere. We won't be rushing back.

I felt I had to say something in response to richie below.The portions are enormous! I regularly share a fish & chips with my wife!The chips are great, lovely Maris piper (I think) potatoes cooked perfectly in veg oil.I often pick the fish I like the look of or even order fresh if there is no haddock in the display warmer! They are huge and the mini fish is good value for money.There is plenty of competition locally so I think your comments are malicious.

Visiting family at Xmas and it was proposed we used this take away. I emailed at 22:00 one night to ask about vegan/vegetarian possibilities a week or so in advance of our visit. Had a reply within an hour with a full menu and recommendations. Ended up opting for a pizza which was very nice and filling.

I lived in Alrewas for the past 6 years before recently relocating to the Cotswolds. Our village chippy always served high quality food with a team of very friendly staff. The food was always fresh and tasty.

Just great quality product and the portion sizes are very good. On a weekend there always seems to be a queue... think this says something about the quality.

We are from a local village and thought we would give the Alrewas Fryer a try a couple of months ago. We have been back twice since! The fish has been excellent every time and the service friendly, and there is clearly a rapport with other local customers as well. It does mean a short drive for us but worth it for the best fish and chip takeaway experience we've had within shouting distance of home. Looking forward to our next visit.

Visited Wychnor for our youngest daughters 40th birthday. We decided to have a chippy tea on Friday 26th April. Only one place to visit as usual food service and value exceptional at the Alrewas Fryer. Would recommend anyone staying at Wychnor to try this fantastic Chippy.

the cod smelled old it was very thin with very hard batter on returning home i broke open the cod it was so grim i took it back and was given full refund

We were staying at Wychnor Park Country Club and was looking for somewhere to have our evening meal. We decided to google chip shops and was so pleased we found this one. They were very busy but still had time to great you with a warm welcome and have a little chat. We got our fish and chips and ate these back at our accommodation at Wychnor, They were delicious, we will definitely do this again next time we visit Wychnor.

We were staying in the area and after reading reviews decided to give this place a try. Good value for money as portions are very generous. The wrap was tasty and the chips were really nice. I found the batter on the fish to be a little soggy but the fish itself was nicely cooked. We would recommend.

The actual fish isn’t that good but the kebabs and donner meats definitely make up for it. The chips could be a little better but they are still good.

I’ve been asked to write a review on behalf of the family. I’m sure the staff will remember the order they fed 22 of us on Saturday evening. The bill was over £100 and they gave us discount which we did not expect. We all had various meals and not one person had a problem and not one item was left. We travelled from various parts of the country for a family get together. Thanks to this takeaway for making it a little special. I’m positive that anyone of us are ever in the area again we will visit.

We had a party in Walton on Trent village hall and wanted something quick and easy for guests for supper. The Alrewas Fryer were brilliant. Chris provided hot tasty fish and chips or Pie and chips (nuggets for the kids). These were delivered on time, hot and tasty. The service was second to none and we were delighted with the choice. Had a long weekend at Wychnor to celebrate my daughters birthday. went to fryer for a chippy supper. The fish correction whales and the chip portions were mega superb quality and value. The staff were their usual friendly selves and even remembered us from our last visit.Our grandchildren were there and had battered sausages and chicken nuggets which went down a treat nuggets were actually breast meat.very tasty.Son in law had a burger which was the best he had had will be back for more just wish it was our local chippy.

Alrewas Fryer and Fradley Fryer very expensive and small portions so don't get good value for money. Do not recommend

This is my local chippy. The food is fantastic and offers a wide variety of freshly cooked food. Chips, pies, kebabs, burgers the list goes on! Lots of people visiting the area grab some chips and go and sit on the canal by the church to eat them.

This chip shop is by far the best plaice I have ever used. I have been coming to this shop for several years and can say without reservation I have never had a bad meal. The staff are very friendly, service is quick and there is a good selection always readily available.

I loved the cod from here so much. The batter was crispy and delicate, not too greasy, with beautifully cooked cod that seemed to melt in my mouth. The chips were perfect too and the staff were lovely. Can't recommend highly enough.

Visited with friends after reading reviews. Went on a Saturday night and it was really greasy, the haddock was so thin, grey and lots of skin. Cod was not chunky at all and eight better. Very disappointed wouldn't but again from a shop that sells kebabs, burgers and pizzas too. Concentrate on your fish !!!

We have been to get a carry out from this establishment on several occasions and have never been disappointed. They offer much more than fish and chips. The only problem is a bit of a wait as it is so popular. We'll phone in our order next time..

This Fish & Chip shop has been in the village for over 30yrs and still remains a quality establishment with an extensive menu. It offers kebabs, burgers, pizzas, fish and various other options and is both great value and quality. The service is really friendly and they recognise locals, even remembering their 'usual orders'!

I visited this chip shop when I was traveling on one of my visits to the UK. I've always been a fan of traditional fish and chips but this place won it for me! The chips were fresh and hot, and the fish was well cooked with a nice crispy batter. The lady who served us was really chatty and super polite. I thought the price was reasonable too. I would highly recommend The Alrewas Fryer and will definitely go back if I'm ever visiting the area again.

Whenever I am in Staffordshire I make sure I visit the Alrewas Fryer. The staff are welcoming and efficient. Despite being a vegetarian I've found many different things on the menu to eat. My favourites are the potato scallops and pizza. The shop looks very clean and tidy inside and out. I whole heartedly recommend the Alrewas fryer for the best chips around!
