The best restaurants serving British food in West Midlands

On a tour in our van and called in here after visiting another local venue ( newly refurbed) where we didn’t feel very comfortable. As soon as we walked in we felt at home. Proper lovely local pub where the local farmers were having a Sunday afternoon meal and drinks with plenty of room for our van and their tractors. Like someone else has said not fine dining but plenty of good hot food with excellent staff who went above and beyond for us. Beer was great according to hubby. Will definitely come back !!!! Thank you

Visited with friends for mid week lunch. Comprehensive menu, nice small plates a bit short on vegetarian options Drinks orders taken and filled quickly, 40 minutes for service of food. All our options were tasty, nicely presented and of a good size. Service friendly and professional. Lost a star because 17 diners on 6 tabl3s were all crammed into a very small area - very noisy conversation almost impossible. The rest of the large restaurant was completely empty so this was not necessary

Food was nice and home cooked . lt looks like it has been refurbished so nice ambience. But…… Long wait for meal and service not terribly friendly or welcoming.

Horrendous, order didn’t even arrive and on the app it said it did.

Honestly went in unsure but the guy serving me was an absolute legend. Some serious work skills and I’m not joking. Amazing fried rice too genuine 5 star review for the food and my man of course

We (two couples) had a really enjoyable evening at The Oak. Everything was pretty much faultless - a lovely welcome, very comfortable / attractive dining room (at the front), polite / friendly service and exceptionally good, well cooked food that was reasonably priced. Portion sizes were good. All of our party rated each course very highly - no disappointments whatsoever. It didn't bother us in the slightest, in fact it made it an even more personal experience, but we were the only people eating that evening (a Wednesday). I suspect this is because many websites are still showing The Oak as being closed on Wednesdays so I wonder if being open on Wednesdays is a fairly recent thing and the updated opening times have yet to find there way to everywhere The Oak is advertised? Anyway - not an issue and we would definitely go back.

We attended today for a Mother’s Day carvery. The food was nice but the service was absolutely terrible! We almost got up and left after we had eaten and were left about 45 mins before anyone cleared our plates yet the tables around us were all getting cleared away. I ordered another drink for my daughter which never came so after 30 mins I went to the bar to get it myself. No one came to clear our plates until we got up and went to the bar to order our desserts as we got fed up of waiting and the kids were getting very restless which became very stressful as they just wanted to go outside to play, which would have left my wife sat by herself on Mother’s Day. I’d lost my appetite by the time pudding came as I was so dissatisfied with the service. Its not as if it was busy because we got there for 1630 after the lunch time rush! We have eaten there several times before and always had a good experience so I booked a table as a treat for my wife to give her a day off cooking and wished I’d just ordered a take away! Very expensive at £25 per adult for a very disappointing time.

We were prevented from entering because we were simply wearing a bag, which was designer and that cost me a lot. The security guard at the entrance said that men cannot enter with bags. And the security guard was very ignorant. It was very homophobic. Horrible this. I don’t recommend it. 👎

Este es mi pub favorito en el centro de la ciudad, tiene todo lo que usted querría en un pub - gran servicio, música decente, tablero de dardos y una mesa de billar. Mike, Dan, Gary y el resto del equipo hacen un gran trabajo cultivando un gran ambiente de pub

Yes this is my local Spoons but it is my favourite of many I go in. Always god service, tables always cleaned and glasses/plates taken away (Lichfield take note!). Good atmosphere and although food is same in all Spoons I've always found it hotter and better here.

Tuvimos una excelente comida, con el filete y patatas fritas cocinadas a la perfección absoluta. La calidad de la comida fue igualada por el excelente servicio, por lo que es una tarde realmente encantadora. Muy recomendable!
