The Plaza in Cannock Chase

It's my local Spoons but I think one of the much better ones! Always good service. The outside area is now huge. Well laid out inside and of course cheap n cheerful!

Visited here on a Saturday lunchtime. Got a table and ordered no problem. Food and drink arrived quickly. However upon looking around our surroundings we noticed the dirt, grime and dust around us. From the tables, to the carpets, railings and lamps, all were pretty gross 😝. Just a general lack of attention to cleanliness throughout. When our deserts arrived, they weren't as expected. We ordered the millionaires shortbread, described on the menu as "two vanilla ice cream scoops, shortbread biscuit, belgium chocolate sauce and toffee sauce". When it came, it was ice cream with the sauce on top and a small sprinkle of shortbread crumbs, rather than the 3 layer millionaires shortbread you expect. We went to the bar as this was really disappointing and not as described in the menu. The woman behind the bar proceeded to argue with me when I said that millionaires shortbread is a 3 layer biscuit dessert, not shortbread crumbs. I was very shocked at her attitude and therefore asked for a refund for this and the other dessert, as she was being very rude and argumentative. She refused at first, but then she begrudgingly asked her manager, who did kindly refund me right away without any trouble. Her attitude was terrible and do not think she is suited to a customer facing role. Plates, glasses and cutlery were also not clean and when we pointed out dirty cutlery to the manager, he just said "yeah". As you can imagine we weren't very impressed and would suggest they rethink their bar staff and update the menu to have correct descriptions. You maybe find you order a sandwich here and you get breadcrumbs rather than bread!!

Was in wetherspoons rugeley today Saturday 13th July, there was dust over frame work, radiators, carpet and lampshade, all need good clean.

Came in with my step dad for a few drinks. i had my strongbow dark fruit. and my step dad had a mix of abbots and guiness. all drinks were poured perfect. and the staff are friendley to, great place

Called into this Wetherspoons while on business in Rugeley. Quite a tired looking pub and not particcularly friendly staff. The food was standard Wetherspoons fare, OK for the price but certainly not Cordon blue. The pub doesn't have a great atmosphere. Not in any great hurry to return.

Nice prices and place but really busy and don’t pour bitters well but oh well cant mone when so cheap and lots to choose???

Visit this place every week. Lovely friendly staff. Today was an off day I think. I had the jalfrezi curry. Came out without the mango chutney. Had to ask for it. My wife had the scampi. Came out lukewarm. Sent back but return meal not much better. The disappointment is the chip portion size. We have complained about this a few times now and we have had extra chips delivered no problem. Is this now a way of saving money. Overall today an average place to eat. Poor chip portions but we hope its back to normal next week. I

Visited for lunch and were not disappointed as usual. Think we have found a great weatherspoons. Jalfrezi curry and bq chicken melt were our choices today. Really nice. The staff are really lovely too. We will definitely be back soon.

We have Bern visiting this place every week for the last few months. Always great value food with great choice of beers. Keep up the good work.

30minutes for drinks ….they arrived after our food was given to us. Dirty tables, team member who thinks it’s okay to look at people the wrong way and overall shockingly poor service.

Visited this place for lunch as we have had good food several occasions. We ordered the chicken strips and a chicken jalfrezi. Both meals were very nice. The curry was excellent. This is the sixth time in a row that we have had good food in here. The staff are lovely and friendly too. We will keep trying this place and see if the bubble bursts.

We were in Rugeley and decided to call in for lunch. We ordered 1 x large mixed grill 1 x 5 oz gammon and egg Both meals presented very well. All very tasty too. Only grumble was the sausage was not very hot. Everything else was good. Even got nice runny eggs. The staff were nice and friendly here. Our first visit to this place and would definitely try again. Overall a good place to eat and drink.

Very reasonably priced and has a vey lovely seating area outside and they are spaced out well. lovely in the summer. inside is also very pleasant but busy. Bar staff seemed pleasant and drinks cheap and served well chilled. Would visit again if in the area

Staff not good with customers, food and customer service has gone downhill, don’t bother visiting it

Visited with friends yesterday. We all enjoyed what we had. I had scampi and chips. It was cooked and presented perfectly. I was also delighted that you had ‘Ginting’ available as it’s my favourite gin. The toilets were lovely and clean but the lock on the door didn’t work and needs replacing. The outdoor area looked lovely but it was too cold to sit outside. I must return when the sun is out!

A snail would have served faster. Not sure what was going on, visited previously and not had such poor service. Tonight waited about 20 mins for food, asked the lad who brought food about drinks, told nothing to do with him, bar staff would bring....

Our son has just returned from a weekend trip to Bristol and once again he says the Bristol Weatherspoons was not a patch on Rugeley Plaza and I have to say that is our experience when we compare The Plaza with others we visit both...

Despite me living locally this is still one my fave Spoons! Staff always spot on, quick service. Food typical Spoons standard but good for what it costs! Came here twice over Christmas. Great both nights!

Not impressed with breakfast here. Came out lukewarm. Large breakfast but only a ultra thin half piece of bacon. One tiny mushroom and small piece of tomato. Miserable bar staff. Place looks grotty. Wouldn’t come back here

Third Wetherspoons pub visited yesterday lfollowing the two previous one's in Redditch. However, only had a half pint up to (7.30pm) and certainly made up for it drinking with some great characters in here! Seeing's as I'm trying to visit as many "Spoons as possible...

Visited on a Friday night, needs serious refurb. Grubby is not the word. Staff attentive though. Only positive it was a cheap round, nothing else.

Was looking forward to this visit as my prior visit was to watch a movie many years ago.Weatherspoons converted this well, and it brought back fond memories, but as somewhere to sit down to eat it was lacking.Dirty table - had to ask for it to be cleaned. Service was prompt but my food turned up lukewarm (mushrooms risotto), and stone cold in places. The staff replaced with a fresh meal but that was literally steaming, overcooked (microwaved?), stodgy and unappealing. Left most of it.Overall I felt the place needed a deep clean. Food quality lacking. Disappointing and wouldn't recommend.

We ate here two nights in a row recently while staying nearby. The food was excellent value for money, and piping hot on both occasions. There was a good choice for both adults and kids. Would recommend

What the heck has happened here?

It is an old cinema, with old style A lot of craft beers, locals or import. Food is fine Staff is young and friendly.

went by train to Rugeley and walked down into the town from the station and you just turn to the right at the bottom and cross over the road and there is The Plaza, you can not miss it, it still looks like a cinema from the outside and when you go in there are still posters from the days it was a cinema and was very interesting I love when they keep the character of the place makes it more enjoyable to ride round and see these places. I ordered a small breakfast and coffee and service was quick my breakfast was warm and very tasty and I had no problems with the meal, the waiting staff where very pleasant and when coffee machine ran out of milk it was topped up straight away so I did get my second coffee

This Wetherspoons has been converted from an old cinema built in the 30s. It still retains the original decorative features.

Our favourite Wetherspoons in an amazing art deco cinema! Food and drinks up the Wetherspoons standard. Service friendly and helpful. See you again soon 🙂

Popped in for breakfast with a friend and the service was excellent, within 10 minutes my food was bought to the table by a very friendly smiley Steven!! You go Steven!! Very friendly staff, good atmosphere will definitely be back!

the shift manager has a problem with people enjoying there selves the manageress is a hard working person but she should of sacked the shift manager ages a go, the tables are always full with glasses or plates except when the manageress is on

Food good and prices super cheap!!! Atmosphere was great apart from one particular staff member; Alison - Rude and abrupt!! Such a shame one staff member can make such a negative impact on the whole experience. Disappointing!!

We have just visited our favourite weatherspoons for “Steak Night” and are very disappointed to report it’s not upto the usual standard of excellent - it was Cold!!! Both the plate and the food was cold ☹️ No-one came to ask if the food was ok? So we didn’t bother complaining, we were upstairs!

Was sitting there today at around 3:30 and was having a nice time until I heard a team leader shouting at this poor waitress ( he had brown hair which looked like it was going grey and balding.)

Called here Sunday 24th Feb 2019 for a midday snack. The place was quite full and any spare tables still had empty glasses and plates on them. No one around collecting them. There only seemed to be three people taking meals out in a hurry and going up and down stairs onto the floor below as there was a 50th party going on. The poor guys were chasing around serving the party and everyone else. Only 3 of us though. My son ordered the drinks and meals from his phone (very handy) The drinks appeared quickly, but we waited ages for the meals. Two had paninis one cheese and tomato and the other BBQ pork, chicken, bacon and cheese. One had a small mixes grill, They came with chips or salad. We also ordered two portions of halloumi fries. When they did arrive, the chips, halloumi fries and paninis were nice and hot and the grill looked good. I can't really complain because it was what we ordered and adequate for us. Prices are not bad either. If we visit Rugeley in the future I would call here again.

Can always rely on a cracking breakfast here. Love the breakfast wrap and the large breakfasts are indeed large. Great value for money.

Needed a quick bite to eat en route to home so called here as The Plaza used to be the local Art Deco cinema and I was hoping all original features had been kept. Sure enough, the interior was a pleasant surprise with many original features and a good atmosphere. The food is simple, quick and service efficient.

Me and two friends came for breakfast and ordered 3 traditional breakfasts with no tomatoes on all of them and an extra hash brown on 2 and extra toast on the other. The waiter brought over the meals and placed them on the side next to the table and rushed back to the kitchen so the meals were going cold. He then gave me my meal and dropped my hash brown and butter. I had no cutlery to eat it with so I waited. The waiter came over with the other meals, my hash brown, my butter and the cutlery. 2 meals came with extra toast instead of 1 having the hash brown. We then told the waiter and he went to the kitchen and came back, telling us that they had ran out of hash browns!! This bad experience definitely wasn’t the waiters fault as he offered us a round of drinks to apologise but we definitely would of enjoyed the stay better if our meals came out with the correct food and with cutlery.

Went here on our company's Christmas do, place was rammed-but did get served at the bar very quickly. Lots of old cinema features still left after the conversion, quite tasteful....makes a bit of a difference than the usual Wetherspoons places..didn't eat, but prices OK on the drinks!

To whom it may concern. I hope you can help me and acknowledge my problem. I'm writing about a member of staff named Karen from Rugeley Wetherspoons. I was 18 this year DOB 20/4/2000 but every time i go in with my friends she is quite rude with the way she speaks to customers. I went to buy an alcoholic drink and shown her my yoti Citizen Card as ID and she was convinced it was a fake because it has ‘yo-ti’ on the card. However, that’s the type of citizen card it is but she still would not except it. For once I stuck up for myself and said ‘Are you being for real’ as I have used the ID a numerous amount of times AND at the Wetherspoons she works at. So I waited at the balcony door as i had rung my mum to bring my passport down so i could finally get this lady to not only believe me but to stop embarrassing me but she then came to the door and demanded i leave after I’d said sorry for the way I spoke to her at the bar as I was annoyed that she does this constant. I was not brought up to shout and cause a scene so i left. This really spoilt my Christmas eve all we want is to be able to socialise with our friends at our local pub before celebrating for Christmas. Thank you for taking time to read this we are a small village and Wetherspoons have lost a lot of customers because of this lady’s attitude.

We usually pop to rugeley about once a week and always go into the plaza the food is good and reasonably priced the drinks are normal weather spoons prices the decor is nice all round a nice pub to visit

We arrived in Rugeley after a long drive looking for an evening meal, the Travel lodge pointed us in the direction of The Plaza, the menu had a good selection and even thou it was a busy Friday night our food arrived in good time and well cooked, we all enjoyed our meals and it was excellent value, loved the building as well

We had breakfast here and ended up staying for 2 hours. The service was good. The refillable coffee and tea was good. The coffee was very tasty. The decor is in keeping with the previous use as a cinema (which I frequented).

I was sat at a table with my friend with a bottle of raspberry lemonade (i wasnt drinking). We were about to order food and all of a sudden this lady comes over and accusing me of drinking it inside of the premises with no proof and no manners either. She then took my bottle of lemonade and refused to give it me back. Pretty sure it was the manager, she was quite a wide lady, with curly hair and a constant nasty look on her face (she had no name tag). She then told us to move, so we moved and sat outside.Suddenly came over and told us to leave the premises (still with no proof or no manners either) and threatened to put us on pub watch if we didnt. over a bottle of lemonade like really???. At the end of the day im a customer and they shouldnt be spoken to in the manner i was, she has no right and especially being stolen from is disgusting.

The food we had was brought quickly and well presented. You know exactly what to expect at Weatherspoons. The building, a former cinema has been sympathetically converted and provides a startling venue for a meal

On a lazy Sunday afternoon, the sun was blazing, the World Cup spirit roaring and love island has us emotionally fatigued, nay! Weary.

Twice been served by a certain ginger bearded barman who insists on washing his hands with the lemonade fe9m the mixer and not even drying them before serving anyone, Yes I get that he likes clean hands, don't we all but to use the mixer and then serve people alcohol and whatever is out of order.

I eat and drink here fairly frequently and if the manager is on it’s great as she has energy and a work ethic that should be copied. But, sadly there are three or four awful bar servers , two in particular and make that are dreadful, can’t see a waiting customer unless he’s square in front of them, two young useless guys, otherwise it’s v good, is the lady manager is on..

Today is Tuesday so it was Steak/Grill day. I had an 8oz sirloin and my husband a 14oz rump...both very tasty and tender. Friendly staff The overall impression was clean and the toilets were spotless. Art deco decor which was really fascinating ...it was a cinema previously.

Looking for a sit-down fish and chip meal we decided to visit the Plaza pub. Wetherspoons converted this old cinema many years back and it still keeps busy with drinkets and restaurant patrons. The friday fish and chips club meal was very good. Real cod and well cooked chips with mushy peas. We all enjoyed the meals and the included drinks make for very good value. It is a busy pub though and can be a bit noisy!

My husband and I regularly visit here. We came tonight and the food was awful! Service was amazing though! My husband spilt nearly a full pint of San Miguel and a waiter soon cleared it up!! Thank you. We ate our meals with no check back. When our plates were cleared I told a different waiter that the steaks were awful. We were told that he would speak to the chef. That was the end of it. No explanation or feed back! Extremely disappointed! Steak night (wouldn't bother)

Visit regularly with my daughter as virtually on my doorstep. On this occasion as always, a good meal with free drinks and fantastic value for money. Only gripe would be for some of the food could be hotter and the removal of salmon and some pasta dishes from the menu.

My colleague and I visited The Plaza on Wednesday 4th afternoon on our way home from Cheddleton and once again we had a most enjoyable drink and snack. We both had the Pastrami Bagel (one with chips and one with salad) plus a pint each of San Miguel (offered at normal price as they were out of 1664 Kronenberg) for £5.39.

Another great veggie breakfast. Good service and good value for money. We have been coming here for years and never lets us down.

In the heart of the city centre, this building was a former cinema which opened on 12 Nov 1934 & shut in 1996.

Lovely meal quality for money. Service was efficient and brilliant customer service skills would recommend

What can i say... normally the steak is amazing ... but since they changed supplier it was like eating leather.. it even made my mom ill . WE did complain but the manager said loads of people are complaining. DO NOT ORDER STEAK AT ALL

This place is by far the beast Weatherspoons in the area there is always a cracking choice of ales on, very rarely do you get a "awaiting next beer" sign on the pumps unlike the Linford Arms in Cannock the food is spot on and the staff smile !for the price the best steaks around

Although the food was very delicious I found the portion sizes on the small side.... the service was fast and efficient

Visited Weatherspoons at Rugeley (The Plaza) for the first time with my wife and her aunty Sheila. Decided that lunch would fill the bill and we were pleasantly surprised to find that like our local Weatherspoons it is a refitted ex cinema. This has been done very well with three different floor levels, leading to a relaxed dining area. Choosing from the Menu is never easy as there is so much to choose from. The ladies picked the Chicken cheese melt each and I decided on Scampi. Three mugs of 'endless' coffee were obtained and our food was delivered quickly by pleasant helpful staff. The meals were delicious so we ordered our favourite pud, the Cookie Dough Slice with ice cream. Beautiful ! Price as always was very reasonable and the whole dining experience was excellent. We sent our thanks to the kitchen. Well done Plaza !

This is a J D Wetherspoon pub in a building that used to be the old cinema. It is a lovely conversion with very attractive decor and original features. The service and the food was very good and great value. It was early evening on a Monday, so although reasonably busy it was very comfortable and not noisy. It had a nice atmosphere with friendly and efficient staff.

Love wethers pubs. You always know exactly what you’re getting and great value too. The manager of the plaza is a big mardy but other than that it’s a nice pub.

Revisited after the previous month when an equipment fault resulted in no real ales being available. It was great to sit down with a small family group and have a very nice hot breakfast with coffees and a few beers to make sure the day was going to stay good! Everyone enjoyed the brekky and it was very good value, all served up on the standard blue Wetherspoons plates.

The food and beer selection available is very good and the service people are usually first class BUT........and this may be a bit of a cliche.......why don't the Wetherspoon's staff behind the bar have more of a laugh???

Visited here last week with a friend for a change from our usual Wetherspoons. I’d never been here before so was very impressed by the interior which clearly shows that the building used to be a Theatre or Picture House, it was nice to see that they’d kept much of the old style. The drinks were fine and we got served pretty quickly which was good considering it was quite busy, also managing to get a table on a Friday night at around 8pm was pretty good.

You can't beat "spoons" for a good selection of ales and other drinks. We went in here for a few drinks before going for a curry. I tried all the guest ales which were very nice. Staff were friendly and even had a bit of banter with us which I think you need in a pub.

Wetherspoons have done it again, from the service to the food it was outstanding. The building from the outside didn't look that grand but you walk in and it's absolutely gorgeous. Fantastic value for money and worth a visit if you're in the area for Cannock Chase as it's only a 5 min drive.

Looking forward to a relaxing ale after lunch but turned out to be almost the "Pub with no beer" all of the ales were off due to equip failure. Not really a cataclysmic event but disappointing. Overall drinks we had we're good value.

Popped in here on our way to Go Ape. Great menu selection, service and a truly beautiful building. The most amazing spoons I've ever visited. All meals were amazing value and delicious. We even made room for pudding afterwards! Beautiful interior for bar, restaurant and toilets. A great place to eat, drink and socialise. Would recommend and definitely visit again!

Could not fault the service of the staff and the breakfast was fabulous. Wanted extra toast but had to purchase toast and jam as another meal just to get more toast. Had the weather been better, we would have sat outside in the lovely garden or balcony areas. One of the nicest Wetherspoons we have been to. Must mention, we all felt rather chilly even though we tried two different seating areas so kept our coats on.

Popular pub in center of Rugeley offering all Weatherspoons has to offer.Opted for the large mixed grill which was served quickly and cooked as I asked.Good value.Drinks are cheap as you expect.Busy staff who are attentive and get on with it.Quiet enough to talk Business and cheap enough not to take the profit out the job in question. Would go again.

obnoxious rude staff, not only do the staff also have favouritism within the costumes who visit, the managers clearly seem to be ok with their staff having favouritism and their employees slating costumes over Facebook and naming them publicly.

This is a lovely venue. It's quirky and oozes character. There's seating on different levels. There's 3 outdoor seating areas plus a garden and car park.The service is generally good and food decent enough. With Wetherspoons you know what you get and this is a great pretty local one for us to visit. We will definitely return

Just what you'd expect. Through the day it's full of professional drinkers and mums drinking coffee. Curry night is about the only time I venture in, if friends are visiting. That said it's the one pub in the town that I'll venture into at all.

We often eat at wetherspoons, you know it's cheap enough, plus the price includes a drink on certain offers, choice of real ales usually, great for a lazy night when you don't feel like cooking, always full so they must be doing something right .

We have called in this pub a few times so four of us called in for breakfast. We called in about 10am and were told we would have a 20 minute wait because they were busy and there was only one in the kitchen!!! We actually waited half an hour but breakfasts very nice .

Always good value when you pick a meal that includes a drink. Good gammon steaks & free range eggs for one, and chicken, avocado & bacon salad for the other. Trouble was, they forgot the bacon, and also omitted to revisit our table to check everything was all right. The avocado was pretty tasteless. Being hungry, I had just about finished eating when I attracted someone's attention, so my meal was a bit disappointing. However, the waiter immediately offered a dessert as some compensation, and the apple crumble was a good serving and very nice.

I have just had the worst meal of a lifetime in the Plaza Rugeley. Ordered half a roast chicken and was served a half pigeon which must have been cooked at least half a dozen times. Disgraceful.
