Well it's been a few years since I last visited the Park Gate. You could always get a reasonably good meal lunch or evening. The Gate was well know for this service, so we were shocked to find all that was on offer were ready made uo baps/rolls and crispness course, lost opportunities to all the people throughout the year that visit the famous landmark of Castle Ring virtually a stone throw from the Gate. Well you gave the option of the pub being a CAMRA establishment, fine for the few locals who can drinks there fullnof real ale, but not when you're driving, so I would love to recommend The Gate for food but sadly and disappointed ly not. If a walk round Castle Ring in you plan, you're better of taking a picnic or planning to go to another eating place. I hope meals will return to the Gate but I'll have to give it a miss unfortunately!

Had a great meet up in the Park Gate Inn, was too wet to climb up to Castle Ring. Had a “connection” with a very sad 3-4 year old boy spirit called William or Billy boy. He was thrown down a well by his mother. We did not even know there was a well anywhere near until we were leaving & saw a well in the back garden. He made three of us feel so cold & my throat closed up like I was drowning & such a feeling of sadness overcame us. He materialised just after a member of our party announced she is pregnant & we got the impression he wanted to reincarnate as her child. We did not allow it though. I managed to tell him to leave into the light but he may be hanging around for a while as we are not sure if he actually left. We were in the back room right round the corner from the gorgeous driftwood chair..near the back patio if it helps other investigators. We had a great afternoon as a coven of white witches we meet all over the Midlands, rarely do we encounter spirits as strong as he was. Thank you for your warm inviting pub we may return one day Blessed Be

We have just arrived back home after dining here at The Yatch for my daughter in laws birthday. There were 9 of us in total, 7 adults and 2 children. We were greeted with a welcoming smile by our waiter, Mark, who showed us to our table, he was very courteous and professional as we were seated and brought us the menus, he asked us straight away if we needed a drink, which we ordered. As we were looking through the menu, we could see that the restaurant was filing up pretty quickly and that Mark was dealing with quite a few tables, he came back to us after a while, as he was really busy and took our order. We had the Pesto Tapas, which was very filling, we all said that the food was more than enough. The children eat from the children's menu, but there was nothing left on their plates at the end. Mark asked us a couple of times if we were OK and if the food was nice, which we told him it was. We could all see how busy Mark was, entertaining other guests with his professionalism and eventually caught his eye to ask for the bill. After paying, I thanked Mark, very much, for the way he handled himself over how busy the restaurant was. We will definitely be going back another time.I hope you find my comment helpful and I recommend you try this restaurant out. Thanks for reading and enjoy.

We all thought great someone is taking it over and it is going to come back to life. First signs were good, but alas its gone back to normal. When the new managers are there its just concertrate on the bar, just because people don't go in every day doesnt mean you treat them any less. The garden at the back was cleaned up to start with but now it looks scruffy again with cigarette ends left everywhere, kids plastic drinks bottles left on the ground weeds everywhere . When the managers arent there it's left to people who are either drunk or on something absolute disgrace. Such a beautiful old pub which needs some responsible people in it. It has so much potential the brewery needs to look at it before the village looses it altogether

After reading recent reviews we were quite sceptical about coming, but decided to prevail as we have only ever had lovely meals here in the past. Sat in the bar next to the log fire which was quite cosy. Can safely say the food was excellent, my husband had the mixed grill which he described as ‘desperate Dan size’ (he particularly liked the Cajun chicken breast). I had the fish pie consisting of salmon, cod and haddock which tasted beautiful. For dessert we both had cheesecake which were very nicely presented and managed to eat every last crumb (I sometimes find cheesecakes a bit sickly). Will definitely be returning in the coming months.

Over the course of an hour and a quarter our pre-booked group of 30-40 people were served their starters. We were informed that the chef was drunk and that half the staff hadn't turned in. As I left - we never got to the main course - someone was shouting and swearing in the kitchen, I think it may have been the manager but uncertain as he never showed his face in the marquee where we were, leaving his two waitresses to take the flak - they were very apologetic and professional, which is more than I can say for the chef and manager.

Absolutely shocking 'service..' My Mum and Dad booked a table for 6 adults and 6 children weeks ago to celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary. The table was booked for 6.30, we only saw one waitress taking orders and serving behind the bar. We had to ask for menus, which we didn't get until after 7pm to be told there was a 40 minute wait and no A La Carte menu! We decided not to stay as the children were already hungry and my poor Mum was in tears, asked to speak to the manager who was absolutely useless. The male manager stayed hidden in the kitchen! There was a party of 25 who were also unhappy, another table walked out after drinks, a couple decided not to stay after hearing us complain and the table next to ours were not impressed. We will not be back and would not recommend!!!

We have been here lots of times and never until today have we had a bad meal. We both ordered the cod and chips. After a lengthy wait our meals arrived. The chips were horrible very under cooked and greasy. The fish (which definitely was not cod, possible bassa?) was just cooked, but the batter was nice. The whole meal smelled of leeks and I hat this was coming from the peas, which were a bit dried up and tasted and smelled of leeks. My husband I did eat some (most of the fish) but I took the plate to the bar to complain. We saw the chief who did not offer any defence, but offered us free deserts, but much as I love deserts I could not stomach any more food there. He then offered a refund and we were given half the money back and free deserts or a drink. We just could not tolerate anymore so left with full apologies and a half refund from the deputy manager.

I feel so very let down and upset that my Wedsing Day which was supposed to be the best day of my life was spoilt by the Management and very poor and unprofessional behaviour. We knew the place was going downhill but didn't have time to change our venue so we had to keep going up beforehand and making sure everything was going to be alright on the day. We were promised many times that there would be all of the drinks on which had not been on many times we previously went up. Not long after we got there one of the lagers ran out. Staff could not explain this. O arrived in my car as told round the back of the building on time to find out after 5 minutes that the entrance had been changed because apparantly I was late. Therefore I got out of the car to find everyone looking at me through the window. This is not what I wanted at all which is why I was supposed to be entering from the back. I then felt like I was being rushed to get to the ceremony room to get married. During the wedding breakfast it could not have been any worse. I had my meal first but the service was so slow. It took the last table to get their meal 45 minutes after me. We had to ask for condiments to be put out. I had to ask for a spare plate for my son, my daughter who is two had her meal on a boiling hot plate. The management had been given our seating plan with menu choices on a week before the wedding. Plates were not being cleared until asked to do it nor the glasses. We had to constantly ask for things to be done which should have already have been done. Management were really shouting at my wedding party all because they were asking for things to be done so that I had the perfect day. Things that have automatically have been been anyway. There were not spoons on the table for our puddings and when asked they had ran out so some people were given forks. Puddings were taking so long that I went to ask for the toast drinks soyhat we could start the speeches instead because we had waited so long already. I was told no because the puddings would be out soon. I ended up asking if I could go into the kitchen of which I had to ask them to get the puddings out and get them all out now, not one table after another that would take forever. When my husband's came out it had a hair on so was sent back. The beef was also tough on the meal of which we all struggles to cut it. Management just kept making up excuses. Not acceptable especially for a wedding. One waitress had come dressed in jeans of which I did not approve. It should have been smart wear for my wedding. Some staff had only started that day so had no idea what to do. Bar staff were not available at times so had to be called when the queue at the bar got long. There was no diet coke so management had to go and get some. Everything we were promised did not happen. We had to ask for lights to be turned on outside and extra chairs for the night time. The managers cat was on the tables before our meal and again on the night time the cat jumped on the table right next to my cake and licked it. I soon removed the cat. When the manager was told she laughed under her breath of which I did not find funny. At the end of the night management then started to make up lies about what was happening and they called the police. The police didn't even know why they had been called because they could not see a problem. The singer even told them what had happened. They were bang out of order and seemed like they just wanted to spoil our day. My wedding party were only trying to make my day special and get everything right for me and my husband. Management are now going around telling regulars that my husband was arrested. This never happened as the police could not see a problem. When we booked our wedding athe Park Gate was such a lovely and friendly pub and I was really looking forward to Lisa over seeing our wedding because she would have made it prefect. Unless she had to leave before the wedding and this is when everything went wrong when all new staff and management took over. I cannot believe how let down I was on what was supposed to be my special day. I really hope that no other wedding is treated like my party and that no other bride feels the way that I do.

Having viewed the website, we were really looking forward to our meal, however a scruffy A4 paper menu was all that was on offer. Only Diet Coke available (not ulnar), it was like the last dregs coming slowly through the pump. At one point, a male (in a dirty orange jumper), and a female we're arguing behind the bar - then the male was being rude on the phone to someone. I later found out this was the owner and (previous?) chef. We had been at our table (no cushions on the wooden benches) for over half an hour, when the owner aggressively pushed a wheelchair towards our settled dog, and barged it into him, without waiting for us to move the dog. He then took an elderly female out side. When she came back, she asked the bar staffs where her lunch was, at which point we asked about our lunch As we had now been waiting nearly an hour. The female said serve the customers before me.

Visited the pub for food and drinks and quite frankly it was nothing short of embarrassing. Having visited the pub for the past 10 years it's well and truly gone downhill following the passing of the late landlord Paul which makes it all the more saddening. The food was bland and limited in terms of choices. The day we visited there were no soft drinks available, no squash for the kids, no larger or ciders and limited ales...quite simply not acceptable for a bar! The pub was overrun with cats and children and two members of staff who decided to have a blazing argument in the restaurant f**ing and jeffing which I couldn't believe, especially as I later found out that one of them was the son (now current owner). I can't believe how run down, scruffy and generally unappealing the pub is. It used to be a busy bustling pub with limited places due to demand, now it's a shadow of its former self, poor food, terrible impressions from the new owner and all in all not worth the time of day. I feel bad for saying this but I wouldn't want others to have a wasted journey. Maybe in time a new owner will take over and bring it back to its glory! Won't be back unfortunately

Called today with family for pub lunch after looking at menu act. on internet. Very restricted menu , nothing like advertised on web site. Ordered food reluctantly & after waiting over hour we asked where is food , advised 10/15 mins. Cancelled the order & left. Staff not helpfully, floor very sticky from spilt drinks over period of time, furnishings less than basic. Give this place a wide berth, think we had a lucky escape. Went to Ye old windmill where you get a much better meal, choice & friendly helpfully staff. Other patrons waiting longer than we did & when meals did come out they were wrong & not complete.

What a shame that the food is so very slow to be served, by slow I mean waiting an hour for the main meal and half an hour for the dessert. The food is lovely when it arrives and the prices are reasonable. We lunched there twice just to be sure the slow service wasn't a one off, it wasn't, sadly we won't return

My friend and I regularly visit this little hidden gem and over the years it has been a fantastic little place with an extensive, reasonably priced menu and great service but sadly this has all changed.

I have been coming here for a few years and not long moved up to the area with the park gate being a big bonus for us. On my last few visits it seems like they are barely holding it together. The staff are always stressed and seem like they are bickering with each other which doesn’t give off a good vibe. I came for lunch a few days ago and it took 30 minutes for the staff to get us a menu. The food took a further hour to come out and the order had been taken wrong with our starter also coming out at the same time as a main. Credit where credit is due the food was really good when it finally arrived. This place needs to invest some time in its staff as it has really put me and my family off returning which is such a shame as we want to support local. Will try again in a few months to see if it’s picked up.

I have been going to the Park Gate on and off for five years and had always found it impeccable, what a shock it was I walked into it today. None of the old staff like Lisa who was amazing and always a warm welcome where there. When we walked in the restaurant to get a table there was a cat lying on the floor, which I found odd,(as we know cats like to lie or sit any where that takes there fancy) as it would be an hygiene issue? We had to wait 45 mins for a prawn cocktail and hunters chicken, which were ok. Not long after we had finished we where asked if we wanted the bill, so we took it as they did not want the custom. The new landlord seem to be inconsistent with someone who is requied to run this pub. I will not be going back again and will not be recommending any of my family or friends to visit.

My daughter arranged her Daughters Junior Prom here. Thanks to Steve, Steph and all the Staff for making it special. Nothing was too much trouble and the Marquee looked amazing. Highly recommend if you have a function to arrange.

Sorry to say this but the place has gone downhill, i was always an advocate and recommended the a la carte menu to friends but we booked a table for 4, (two couples) offered taxis there and back, at no point at the time of booking did tbey mention the fact that they had 2 bday parties on so due to short staffing in tbe kitchen we could only order the 'pub grub'

Even though the food is very good the service lacks, slow to get meals, didn't get them all together then had to wait for cutlery all the time your food is going cold. The bar had 1 serving the entire pub so ended up standing waiting to be served far to long, not sure if it was just a one off or was just short staffed and disorganised on the day we went.

We had our wedding reception here on saturday and it was just perfect, stunning location and the staff went above and beyond to make our day so special, we had a bbq during the day & an evening buffet and the food was amazing. So many comments on how good the food was. Lisa (our very own Wed ding planner) was just brilliant, nothing was too much and she made our day run smooth, we cannot thank her enough, highly recommend this venue for any event.

Haven’t been for a month or so, so thought we’d give it a try instead of our local in Burntwood, has always been very good every time we visit, one of the better non chain Pubs that does proper good value home cooked food so thought it’d be a safe bet. Normally sit in the bar but decided to sit in restaurant this time.

Lovely staff and good pub food with excellent service. The pub garden and the interior are high standard and we have always been made to feel really welcome

Lovely pub, friendly staff and nice food. As a family had chicken tikka pizza which was home made tasty and very filling, Cajun chicken which was delicious and a kid's chicken nugget meal, followed by an orio ice cream which was devoured in seconds. We haven't been here since the new management but found it lovely, including the decor and will be returning often 😀......edit, it stopped serving food very quickly and has since closed in May 2024

Went to see a band. Band were cancelled as they couldn't afford to pay them. 2 people on a Saturday night. Band have a following. No wonder pubs are closing down with people like that running them
