Sobar in Birmingham

Was staying at Ibis hotel for the weekend and came across this place which is directly behind the hotel. Nice place, great service and they play some good tunes to get you in the party mood. Reasonable prices for a good location in the city centre.

What a laugh Staff are great! We popped in for some drinks after a networking event and the staff are absolutely fabulous, cocktails were good - beers and wines were perfect And the ambience is really fun.

We booked in at Sobar for a drinks reception after Birmingham Pride Parade for approximately 50 guests for the second year running. The team were hugely welcoming and had no trouble accommodating us once again. We look forward to coming back next year!

We had the best service ever on Saturday at Pride with every member of staff and Steve the manager making sure all 56 of us had the best time! Nothing was too much to ask and Nahla was made very welcome as our mascot. Thank you Sobar! See you soon!

great atmosphere and good music

After attending the Pride 2024 parade we booked out a section of Sobar and received the best service possible from all staff members and the manager everyone provided a welcoming environment for all including children and even a dog! The atmosphere throughout the afternoon/evening was amazing, music was continuous and upbeat, Would highly recommend Sobar as place to go! Thank you and hopefully see you soon next year!

Came here after walking the pride march with Lloyds bank for pride 2024. Everyone was so lovely and welcoming. Music was BANGING and the cocktails delicious. Thank you all. Especially the manager who reserved our spot and tended to our needs.

We had the pleasure of spending a few hours on Saturday where SOBAR was booked for our pride event, the staff catered for all our needs from our fur babies to the music, nothing was too much trouble, amazing atmosphere we will be back x

Worst experience I’ve ever had in Sobar and I’ve been going there for years. I don’t know if there’s a new manager but the short dark haired man supposedly responsible for the club clearly has a very bad case of little man syndrome. Very big for his boots and seems to have a superiority complex and feel like the big (small) ‘I am’. I’ve never been spoken to in such an appalling way in my life, we were invited into VIP by a group and the security staff let us through, no problems - we were having a great night. After going to the toilet and coming back he virtually spat in our faces shouting ‘GET OUT, YOU DON’T HAVE A WRISTBAND’ - some of my belongings were at the table so I simply replied, ‘Can I go and get my things, I left my bag over there’ to which he replied ‘WHY WOULD I CARE, THIS IS MY CLUB. COULDN’T CARE LESS ABOUT ANY OF THAT’ - The capitals are emphasising the way he shouted at me like I was a wild animal. Birmingham club scene is in the bin, such a disgusting interaction and I’m not used to being spoken to like this so it certainly came as a surprise. I won’t be returning or funding this club, I don’t know if he got out of the wrong side of the bed or if he’s always like this but even the club staff who were around at the time looked shocked and embarrassed, so it seems to be common practice for this horrid man. This is no way to handle young women and I’m still in shock. After writing this I have a good mind to put in a formal complaint as it’s triggering to even relive and the public humiliation was even worse. This is Arcadian not Mayfair, embarrassing.

Went for a night out with a few friends in Sobar and from the second we stepped in we were treated with great appreciation, from the door staff, bar to even managers passing by on the night they all really went the extra mile. It ensured we had a great night from the get go. The atmosphere was fantastic and DJs played really well on the night. Would definitely recommend to anybody looking for a night out in Birmingham! Sobar will be seeing us again for sure.

One star cause I cant write less. I had bubble shoes (same model as bouncer) and he did not allow us in.

Awful night, rude staff, paid excessive amount to be given our 5 bottles at 3am when it was empty. Bad atmosphere - to all bar staff if you don’t like your job leave because the customer service made the fact it smelt and was dirty 10 x worse.

Good place to dance and have a great time, drink like the beer at £5 is a bit pricy for Birmingham however the music is great and good vibe.

Birmingham Pride was on Saturday 27th May 2023 and I spoke with Steve and he arranged a large area to be reserved for our colleagues and family/ friends to get together after the parade. Steve and his team could not be any more accommodating. The atmosphere was electric, the Dj was fantastic and the staff, despite the big group of us ensured the drinks kept flowing. Not to mention we had 3 dogs with us and the staff ensured they had a cool area inside out of the sun and provided water bowls for them. Will definitely be returning to Sobar, not just next year for Pride but when ever we can in between now and then. Thank you again all!

Do not go this club!!! Bouncers manhandle girls and they racist

I had a great time at this nightclub! The music was fantastic and the atmosphere was really enjoyable. Although I'm not a big fan of crowded places, I found the downstairs area to be really cool and vibey. The drink service was quick and efficient, which is always a plus. Overall, I had a great experience here.

Had to wait 10 minutes at the front of the line outside then and another 30+ minutes to go inside. What a waste of a night. Feel like I've been scammed. Very disappointed and will not be returning or recommending.

Nathan the bartender was absolutely phenomenal and makes probably the best Long Island I’ve ever had. I cannot remember how to spell the security guards name, he said he was originally from Scandinavia. Absolutely lovely as well. Thank you for the brilliant experience

A disgusting establishment. The staff are very entitled the girls think there’s something special and are rude and aggressive to customers. Security staff witnessed a member of the bar staff attacking a female customer with her male partner and they didn’t take them out of the bar instead that they treated the customers badly. The bar is nothing special you have wait for ages to get inside for it to be a lackluster bar with dirty laminated paper windows xp style menus with only shots and basic mixed drink’s listed in times new Roman (just a mess, outside looks better than inside) where you have to queue again to get to the main bar (which you have no guaranteed access to, they just decide based on the look of the customer and heavily discriminate. Why not say that the main bar is full and there is no access before letting people in, instead they take the 10 pounds for them to wait to get to the main bar) if you want a nice drama free night out then don’t go to sobar. The staff will hang up on you to discriminate if they choose or you’ll waste hours queuing (because they let their regulars and favorites skip the queue while you wait just bad vibes, all round. I feel that they do this to make it more “exclusive” to make people want to go there (fake hype). Tried to enjoy myself but this experience in this bar ruined my night.

Join the queue and got in after 10-20mins and paid £10 on the door, only to wait another half an hour in another queue to be told that the actual event upstairs was full. Taking people money for an event they can't get into! On my way out, I asked the staff for a refund... they told that they wouldnt issue me a refund because its not their fault the venue is full. Yet they are still charging new customers to go through the same thing when they know the event is full.

Been a few times, tonight wasn't as good as it has been, but still enjoyable

Attended on 5.3.22. The floor was wet from club guests spilling drinks. Granted they have put up signs that the floor is slippery but no effort was made to clear the floor. The floor to the toilets was uneven and also slippery I slipped and fell the security helped me to my feet (I was not intoxicated) I cut my knee and twisted my ankle. I had to get a plaster from the toilet Attendant. Music was good drinks where ok priced but I don't like clubs that serve drinks in plastic cups and glasses as most of the time they are covered in lipstick.

Visited sobar a week ago now.. tried to call the club several times to raise the issue and no one has answered the phone. I visited sobar on Friday 11th Feb with my friend. Paid £10 each for entry, stepped in the club and immediately a security guard approached me and told me to step outside. I told my friend come, he told my friend to stay.. he wanted to speak to me outside alone. I said to him I am not leaving my friend on her own, we have came out together. I also questioned who he was as I couldn’t see any badge, he showed me his arm.. and I asked him why he couldn’t speak to me inside. He then walked off and came back 5 minutes later very aggressively. He told me I needed to leave the club, I asked him why and he told me I had slapped someone. But I’d been in the club for all of about 5 minutes.. I was stood at the bar trying to get a drink and I was also sober. He kept telling me to leave so I said ok, can you please get out of my face.. it was asif he was trying to intimidate me. He wouldn’t move himself from my face, so as I pushed past him to make my way out of the club he began to drag me across the floor and outside. My friend was trying to get him off me and other members of security were also telling him to let go of me.. I’m a 20 year old woman there was no need at all to handle me like that. I wasn’t being aggressive, and I hadn’t even had a drink, I was driving. The club then refused to give me my £10 entry fee back.. Awful club.. Awful management. I used to love sobar, I will never be attending again. And as for the security guard, one day he will drag the wrong person.

Music could be better for my personal preference, drink made me feel sick. I got good night but I relise they start asking for pre bookings when line got longer I was fine but some guys didn't get it, the outdoor area was nice however missing someone cleaning wet floor bit denger. Not fan of the spark bottles but dosnt bothered me.

Pretty decent vibe. Drinks were cheaper if you paid in cash compared to from the online menu eg £6 cash vs £7.50 through the baroda. Decent service.

Expensive poor quality drinks. £6.50 for a single vodka and lemonade, in a dirty plastic cup not bigger than 300ml. Portrait about 50metres from Sobar was leaps and bounds better... no wonder people leave Sobar sober.

Normalmente no revisaría realmente un club nocturno, pero después de leer las otras críticas tuve que hacerlo. Visitamos un sábado por la noche llegamos a las 11. 45 así que el lugar era bastante lo que era de esperar. Cargué 5 para obtenerlo, lo cual no es tan malo, voy a ser sincero, el personal del bar podría hacer una sonrisa. . . . todos parecen odiar sus trabajos, pero aparte de eso, un club normal. Mientras estuvimos allí, tenían dos Djs jugando: el primero era mejor que el último. . . . . podrían haber terminado intercambiándolos. El primer set de DJs (quiero decir que quizás dj Charlie) fue brillante, ¡me encantó! El segundo no tan bueno. Me gustó el hecho de que todos habían hecho el esfuerzo de vestirse, odio ir a clubes para los que no te vistes. Definitivamente es un lugar al que volveríamos otra vez.

The place looks nice and modern, atmosphere is good too, not too crowded, they try to play a little bit of different types of music, very nice smoking area. The biggest flaw in my opinion is the bar which only has completely basic drinks, I even asked for the basic premixed cocktails and they didn't even have those. Now this place is not entirely a club, it's a place I would go to sit down, have a drink in my booth and maybe dance a little. So I'd say a proper cocktail bar is what's missing in this place.

Drinks are over priced but the music is good especially on a Friday and Saturday. If you get there early enough you won't have to pay, if you want to sit down inside make sure you pay for a booth.

Let people in free, then saw our group (couples) and suddenly tried to charge us to get in........to an empty place! Groups of douchebags inside (in tiny roped off booths) ordering bottles of vodka which for some reason had women dancing (although not really putting any effort in) while holding the bottles, which had sparklers attached to them????? Then we leave and despite the place still being pretty empty, they are making people queue. Trying to create an image of exclusivety that it doesn't deserve.

Misogynistic. Telling women that they can't get in without wearing heels is vile. There's so many reasons people don't/can't wear heels, including health reasons. You can still look smart in flats. To top it off they made my friend change her shoes, but still wouldn't let us in (while letting othets through the barrier, discrimination??) The whole of Arcadian is going downhill.

Nipped in for a quick drink whilst waiting for the car to be cleaned at the nearby Arcadian car park. I asked for a coffee and was told that they don’t serve it! I got a small water and an orange juice which came to six pounds! I won’t be coming back. Staff were friendly. Smoking is permitted in the outside seating area.

I regular at Sobar for nights out and always try to book a booth or a table if I can. The staff are so friendly and attentive and accommodate personal requests where possible. They even arranged to have number balloons set up for my friends birthday as well as other decorations. The pricing is reasonable and dress code suitable for the atmosphere of the club. The DJ line ups are always the best in the Arcadian and their personalities add to the vibe. I had never been there for cocktails before but with the weather being so lovely I decided to pop in. A pleasant surprise is that until 9pm (ish), the cocktails are 2 for 1! I would recommend the pornstar martini and pina colada.

Visited Sobar last night for birthday drinks and had an excellent time. There was 12 of us and I had originally booked a booth for 10 but the staff on the night were more than accommodating. The drinks kept flowing, the music was good, overall a really good night even if we did go slightly overboard on the expensive choice of vodka! Would certainly recommend a booth here!

The fat Chionese dude at the door turns me away cause I was wearing a very limited rare edition Adidas, but he let others with trainers in because they were wearing the cheapest Balenciaga Line up Trainers, the dude in the Cheapest line Balnciagas told me he paid 400 for them, he also said he was a Legend in Sobar, but he didn't own the place, Cringe. Stay away from this backwards mentality money slutbags venue, much more classier places to go.

The djs are brilliant playing all the latest music with a few throw backs to the old school days. The thing that lets it down is the fact they tell you how you need to dress. I understand they don't want people in with trainers hats or hoods but to tell a female she HAS to wear heels or you aren't allowed in is a joke. We were all in dresses some in heels but myself was in flats as I had broken my foot a few months before and been told to wear flats until my foot had fully recovered. I was in the club for over an hour ( in which the doorman had let me in) before being told by a small oriental looking man I had to leave because I never had heels on. To tell women how they need to dress and what they should wear on their feet is ridiculous. His reasoning was I was more likely to get into a fight with flats on than heels...again I'm a grown woman with children, what makes him think I'm there to fight and if that was the case alot more should have been thrown out to. Will I ever go to this place again...not a chance, not even if you paid me and gave me free drinks all night! Well done on ruining a family night out

Friday night was guest list only expected it to be good 2 stars is for the music and event set up but I went in and people with hats hoodys trapstar t-shirts around 30 people in each booth didn't expect it for a guest list event stayed for a hour and got to much with people jumping all over the place , maxed out with people

God value cocktails if you visit the Arcadian. Outside area but a bit small. Spacious interior but bit of a warehouse feel. Lacks atmosphere. Maybe evenings are better?

Only been here in the evening when its a club, fairly priced drinks, £5.00 to get in usually, good music, snotty girl that think they are VIPs when they are about 18. But overall a decent night out.

A nice bar with a fair bit of outside space if the sun shines. Cocktails are large and not 'watered down' with too much ice or juices. Monitors are the best I've ever had. Nice glasses add to the fun eg jam jars. A good place to go day or evening.

First visit to Sobar. Came to Arcadian to enjoy the Latin American Festival. Managed to get a table outside to enjoy the music. Ordered a spiced mojito and original mojito. Both delicious but little pricey.

My boyfriend and I visited So bar Saturday 2nd April 2016. It was approx. 5.30/6pm so not really busy...We stood at the bar where 3 girls were serving cocktails to customers...We were clearly the only ones waiting at the bar at that time waiting to be served. One girl walked off...The next girl started clearing glasses...and the 3rd girl totally ignored us to serve two men that had only just walked up to the bar!? We assumed this was just a mistake so didn't say anything and waited patiently for the two men to be served...Then as we were waiting two girls walked up to the bar (again after us!) once the girl had finished serving she totally ignored us for the 2nd time and served the two girls who had clearly JUST walked up to the bar! We ended up walking out. I used to spend many a night up So bar a few years back but I will certainly not be going back there again any time soon! There are plenty of other bars round there that will serve you without being ignored!!!

Popped in here for the first time on a Bank Hol Friday to chill in the last vestiges of the sun . Great cocktails , the Cosmo ( elderflower) was scrummy and the Long Island Ice Tea ( minus tequila and additional gin as that's my preference ) great too .Not all the cocktails were 2 for 1 but you could mix n match so I was happy. Nice area out front and spacious inside. Nice bar staff . imagine it's really popular in the evenings. Will definitely be back .

Me fui a una despedida de soltera con 8 mujeres. Aunque el sitio web promueve 241 cócteles que me dijeron que es en el discrecian de administradores. Dijo que cuando está lleno, es demasiado largo. Me señaló que había de hecho no hay nadie más en el bar y estaremos encantados de ir a otro lugar. Después cambió su mente y dijo que le permitiera - es curioso que! Los buenos cócteles pero no tengo prisa en volver.

Era muy tranquilo en un domingo por la tarde, pero los cócteles eran deliciosos, y no el "tipo de mezcla de piña colada de que a veces encuentras. La miel Trampa fue mi favorito.

The panini lunch offer is excellent £6 for a good panini with a choice of fillings and a soft drink. We had to wait a while - staff shortage - but we were in no hurry . The food was good and it was good to sit out in the sun to eat

Went to Sobar on 21/11/2014, With two of my friend to meet the rest of my friend, Celebrating a friend's birthday. I was certainly dressed for the occasion, However for some reason me and my friend weren't permitted to enter the Venue. After some talking eventually we were permitted to enter, Once when we entered, the atmosphere weren't comfortable. The bouncer constantly kept a eye on you, watching your every single movement. Making your experience at the venue extremely uncomfortable. Then once i went to the lavatory and felt sick, i got kicked out instantly despite the fact that i haven't caused any problems with anybody or any issues. I just still got kicked out, Tried to talked to the manager but she was very rude and insulting. I've tried to explained my situation to her, She became very rude and then eventually went to the police nearby. I had to respect their decision to not let me back in the venue, But personally i wouldn't recommend anybody to go there especially if you want to have a good night or a good time, There's many bars/nightclub that are a lot more cheaper and more comfortable to be at. This is my definitely not to go again. The manager was very arrogant and rude. Will be contacting another service about their attitude.

I was dressed very smart. I had visited SOBAR after an interview for a teaching job. I got the job and wanted to celebrate.I qualified to be a teacher but not to get into SOBAR on a Saturday night...Apparently wearing a shirt and tie and shoes is not enough to get in because you must be wearing a blazer...This place is terrible...

Out of all the bars in the Arcadian centre both my colleagues and I prefer Sobar. The value for money is amazing with a large selection of cocktails coming in at only 2 for £6.50. One would think that at this price the quality of the cocktails would be compromised. However, they are always of more than reasonable standard and there's nothing better to chill you out after a day at work. The interior is minimal, mostly due to the venue being more of a dance bar at night, but still chic and stylish. The real asset to this venue is the outdoor space. On a sunny day the heat falls on the astro-turf lower level and the decked upper level. This coupled with a water feature makes the perfect surrounding to enjoy quality, affordable drinks.

Nice lively bar to drink in on a weekend usually go in on Saturdays. Always served quite quickly. Music is a mixture of rnb, house etc. Always a nice atmosphere. Lovely outdoor seating/smoking terrace.

Went there on Friday at midday while we waited for our check in in StayCity Apartments. 2 for 1 cocktails and an empty bar made for a great drunken afternoon!Went back Friday night and the place was jumping.

My partner and I went here for some pre-theatre drinks. Located within the arcadian, it has a nice terrace section outside.We had some cocktails during the happy hour, which were made very well and reasonably priced.Inside is spacious, modern and clean and the service was good.Can't comment on the food as we didn't eat, but I would return again.

Awful night! Bar staff and venue was ok, but security at the door was adolecent. Throwing chewing gum at patrons... quite patheitic really. I don't know hoe the so called 'bouncers' passed their training. Really disturbing...police called in on the disturbance caused.
