Tuesday 14th January 2025 Tonight we drank and stopped in this weatherspoons rooms the pub was well kept and staff ace locals were very pleasant the room no 109 was excellent good beds good bathroom come and shower facilities The reason only 4 stars was the guest real ales on 2 on and no pale ale My main observations on pubs is to make sure people who want a good choice of real ales get the best choice going

Great choice of beers and food at a low price. Clearly very popular as it can get pretty busy.

Good to grab a quick pint and a bite to eat

Slap bang in the centre of the city and surprisingly quiet even at a weekend. Small rooms with no air-conditioning but otherwise good.

Great location, foods good, good staff

Came here for a birthday/Christmas market weekend. Heard good things and wasn't disappointed. Rooms were well lit, free treats were good, windows were soundproof but you could still hear your neighbours and slight street music. We ordered breakfast to the room and it was really scrummy. The shower could have been hotter but that might be down to me being a weird female.... ha ha! Even though they were really busy, the receptionist was so lovely and still smiling through the stress, bless her. Definitely recommend this place 👌

I only have food and drinks there, so I do not have much to share for the hotel part.

Shocking let to many people in the building

I've stayed here several times, rooms are always well kept and spotless. Staff were very friendly and it was excellent value for money for such a central location. Would recommend, you wouldn't get a better deal in central Brum!

Great beer, good WYSIWYG food at a stunning price. And ordering with the app is a dream 🍺🍺🍺🍺

Popped in to this pub for a couple of beers, accompanied by my wife who used their coffee station for a hot chocolate. Didn't book a room or eat anything, so can't comment on those aspects. Great friendly service at the bar, and then again, friendly and efficient service when I ordered from the app. No problems with any of my drinks, great prices. Nice lively vibe in the build up to Christmas.

Great place for a quick cheap pint!

Unfortunately this place is sooo small that it’s impossible to get a seat on the weekend. We always love going to wetherspoons so it was disappointing just how small this place was especially in such a big city. 3 stars as I’m sure the food was great as usual, a shame we could t eat here.

They only allow people in if they have British ID. I (21 year old guy) got thrown out because they didn't accept my driver's license. They only accept UK driver's licenses or passports. Have never had this problem anywhere else. Would not recommend if you are not British.

Great location, rooms a bit tired. Overall pretty good were it not for water hammer from the bathroom pipes on and off all night (room 105). It sounded like construction work going on outside. It only stopped when I turned a bathroom tap on. I mentioned it to someone else and who has stayed there a few times and they said they experienced it on their last visit. Luckily I'm a heavy sleeper.

Good breakfast, warm and cozy. Only one coffee machine working which caused a queue and the guy singing to himself and mixing up orders for different tables could take it down a notch.

Alright pub, same as any Wetherspoons really.. Staff were pretty good, as was the beer and the prices. Was a few minutes walk from the station as well so quite handy if you're planning to get a train before or after.

Lovely pub in a lovely location in the city centre. Would probably have booked the accommodation there had I been aware that it was a spoons hotel so cannot comment/rate the rooms

Great location central to main places we wanted to visit

Hotel manager was a star, couldn’t have asked for better service. Room was clean and tidy, happy.

Great place to stay. Brilliant room. Lisa who checked us in, was friendly, warm and welcoming. Excellent location for the Christmas market. Bar staff could have been a bit friendlier. Not many working...quite a wait to order drinks in the evening and breakfast, next day. I do like Wetherspoons tho. Can't wait to try another hotel.

Brilliant Wetherspoons but very busy on a Friday & Saturday!

Very good value for money and always accommodating especially with children's finicky eating habits

This is the problem for me with Wetherspoons so hit and miss had two great experiences in London this weekend and then tonight awful food the fish was dreadful in overcooked batter part of which was just fat. It's not good value when no care is taken at all. The beer was excellent.

Down for a business trip with colleagues and stayed overnight of the 14th Oct. Room excellent. Lovely hot shower last night and this morning. Went to have a wet shave this morning - no hot water from the bathroom sink! Tried everything - trying to force tap beyond the hot setting - No success. Slowed the flow so much almost to a trickle to achiever less than warm flow. Eventually gave up and made do with tepid water. Down for breakfast - very good but amusing to watch everyone walk across the floor with their footwear sticking to it and making squeaking noises like it was sprayed with treacle - lots commenting on it.

The service was really awesome and the bar, Simona she was so kind and helpful, I really appreciate coming here, even the prices are so affordable. A pleasure to came here.

A great visit to J D Wetherspoon - The Briar Rose! The bar has a very pleasant atmosphere and impresses with a large selection of international beers. The service was quick and friendly. We felt completely comfortable and would love to come back. Absolutely recommended!

we had booked 8 rooms since january 2024 for a group of 14 french people. we informed the hotel in august that one person was withdrawing and that there were 13 of us and that a single room was therefore being cancelled. despite our emails, repeated phone calls and a letter explaining the allocation of rooms between us, the hotel cancelled 2 people, making 12 instead of 13. the check-in was appalling. Each time, the people at reception are different (when there is someone!!). As compensation, the manager offered us 2 days of breakfasts. On the second day, the bar manager told us she didn't know anything about it. The hotel is very noisy at weekends. The shower in one of the rooms did not work.he cleanliness is very limited Avoid !!!!!

Popped in with my husband, it was very busy, but then it was a Saturday afternoon in Birmingham, so I suppose it's to be expected.

The food was very nice but whilst I was standing at the bar, the bar woman looked at me 3 times. I watched a woman walk into the bar, stand right next to me and the bar woman served her instantly. Suffice to say, I was extremely annoyed, thus 1 star when it should have been 4 stars. Absolutely terrible staff.

Poor very very poor took 2 attempts to get a vegan meal first one came with an egg! waited half an hour my reordered food got sent to another table and left there! Disgusting and pathetic customer service literally it was sent back to kitchen and egg removed no substitute despite asking for halloumi

Good food and drink! Ordered and drink come in like 1 minute and then food come in like 3mins. Super fast.

Too many people. Too few serving, dealing with food and drinks. Very poor tasting Guinness - I could only drink half of my pint ordered. Poor quality food - Friday fish and chips, only one of us could eat all the chips and I hated the batter.

Nightmare to find the hotel by car with sat nav. Nice room, not as good as some but better than others Typically, weatherspoons pub attached all in all worth a visit.

Surprisingly bling decoration but well presented. Toilets downstairs, as usual, but very nice decor again. We called for breakfast which was good value. It is quite a smart 'Spoons in a central location.

Great value for money within the city centre! Would definitely book a room next time as didn't realise how reasonably priced they are!! We shall be back!!

What you’d expect from a spoons hotel. The staff were fantastic, really nice and really accommodating. The Location was also great too! The bathroom door needed a running jump start to close, but can I just say…. The shower was so good! It had better water pressure than a jet wash!

Enjoyed the 3 mini meals for 14.99, great for sharing.

Went in on Saturday on a day trip to Birmingham, not the easiest place to find but staff were lovely and drinks were brought to the table quite promptly considering the place was very busy, all in all a pleasant experience there.

Stayed for 2 nights recently, not the best Wetherspoons hotel but perfectly adequate and as always a great price. Bar and staff great as always and even though it was very busy the food we ordered arrived promptly.

This Spoons is very close to New Street Station so is always very busy. We went ahead of the Test match for a breakfast. You get exactly what you expect from a JD Wetherspoons, the pricing is inexpensive, food is edible and beer is cheap whilst still providing quality ale.

the managers are over protecting over staff members, who admit that big bosses can't get jokes from customers 😂

We didn't have breakfast so can't say anything about the food but everything else was just perfect... starting with the location, reception, rooms & service 😀

Really cool bar and restaurant near the cathedral. If you install the JD app you can order and pay yourself using the app. After ordering, it takes a maximum of 5 minutes for the drinks to arrive

Polite staff,helpful and the food was good.

A bunch of people were getting bashed with bottles outside which was funny. It was very busy as the football was on. The food was good and staff were nice to me. I find lots of noise overwhelming but I needed to sit, so a couple let me sit on their table til they left. Quick service despite how busy it was.

Within the centre of Birmingham. Good location, food, service. Watched football, TV ok but could have been bigger though.

Location: just off new street. Perfect location, a few minutes walk from train station, and seconds to new street. The staff was just wonderful. Polite and helpful. Rooms was great, we had a twin. Only spent one night but will be booking here again soon.

Always value and prompt efficient service

Nice place to go that hasn't got a limited menu unlike the other 2 locally ( The Dragon Inn and The London and North Western ). We went on a Euros night and there was no gammon or steak left unfortunately, so chose a different meal, I ordered a 11" meat feast pizza, and to be honest I was left dissapointed with the toppings, hardly any on it . Can't comment on the hotel rooms as they were fully booked. Staff were lovely, we'll be back again this week, because of the service. More topping on your pizza, pretty please 🙏

The staff were really very very nice and I can not fault them. The location is really good and in the heart of everything..however the hotel is really really dated and the room I was in was large but dark and dated. The worst thing was the bed, it was more like a torture device. The springs were almost visible. I knew I would not be able to sleep on that bed and fearing all were the same, I booked another hotel. Spend a little more and stay elsewhere. Sorry wetherspoons but this hotel need a major vamp.

A step away from the usual dark wood of your normal 'spoons with quite a light and modern feel. The burger was good. The Guinness was excellent as was the Doom Bar.

Little noisy in the weekend, but that's what you get when you're in the city center. Staff is friendly and helpful, rooms are simple but decent and clean

The food is nice the bar staff are stupid, deaf, dumb and you have to pay for the there miss communication because they can’t hear chicken was dry and portions are small

Great room but was woken twice by the team throwing the bottles in the recycling bins. Will ask for a room away from that side next time.

I tried to be nice to the staff as a lady at the end of the bay wasn’t being served, but then she randomly went over to someone who came after me and served them. When I walked away they all looked shocked. Have some manners and serve in order. But maybe that’s too much to ask of bar staff these days Update this how much they under serve you

JDW Brilliant pub 9 real ales. Excellent value. I ate pizza with pint of Butcombe Gold. Must visit when in Birmingham. Highly recommended.

We popped in for a quick breakfast. The place seemed understaffed, so it took a while to be served. The staff were nice and friendly. The food took a while, and I nearly just left, as I would have been late for my meeting, but it then arrived. The English breakfast was underwhelming, with half of it cold and not particularly appealing. It was probably just the time, but I will go elsewhere next time.

Me and my partner decided to do Birmingham city center wetherspoons tour a few weeks back and we rated each one 🤣🤣. There are 6 to go to. The Briar Rose came 1st on our ranking.

Great location and very competitive prices a pint of Guinness was approximately £4.50 where all the Local chains a pint of Guinness is £6.50

The location is calm and the atmosphere inside is very cosy quick service for breakfast.

I stayed in the hotel which was more than what I expected from a Wetherspoons. The room was very clean, with very friendly reception staff, especially from the receptionist this morning who greeted us very warmly. The bar was busy in the night, but we had very fast service via the app and breakfast this morning was spot on. There was a young gentleman and lady serving us who made every effort to make our morning bright. Even at 8am they had smiles on their faces! Keep up the good work briar rose👍🏻we will be back.

Very suprised the room was lovley very clean there was complimentary water bottles biscuits tea hot chocolate coffee.. very comfy bed. 5 minute walk from the train Station great location weatherspoons breakfast downstairs great in the morning. Helpful staff very friendly

Extremely busy and very noisy. However the staff worked hard to clean and clear tables and service was still friendly under pressure. Lots of nice beers on tap. Good location. Perhaps I would rate it 5 * if it was quieter. The noise level was a bit much for me.

Superb couple of nights. Room very quiet, clean and well appointed. Staff friendly and very helpful. Would highly recommend. 2nd stay. Different room. Not quite so quiet, but still a great sized and clean, comfortable room. Staff recognised me on arrival which was very welcoming.

I was only in the pub, not in the hotel. A very pleasant, typical, atmospheric pub. It's on the Wetherspoon chain, so you can order to your table via the app (but you need to be connected to the pub's Wi-Fi network for it to work). Young people have their ID cards checked at the entrance.

We really enjoying our stay, the staff is very friendly and its really close to the train station. The pub is great and the prices are cheap. The room is clean and nicely stocked . There are a lot of plumbing noises and our sink drain was stuck shut. The toilet flush is weak. Plenty of hot water, very good water pressure. The area at night does not feel safe.

Busy city centre bar, interesting characters around

The pub is well located and offers a great variety of food. I went with my friend on St. Patrick's Day so I understand the pub was a little crowded, however, despite my food being good, my friend ordered a vegetarian breakfast and was served a regular one. I believe the place needs to pay a little more attention to the customers.
