Thanks to Michael for reserving a lovely booth for our reunion lunch in Birmingham. Christa gave us a lovely warm welcome and fantastic service during our visit, nothing was too much trouble.😀👍 The food was ok for the price, fish was tasty, but it was quite a small portion of chips. 😳

The Chalcroft Farm Burger with cheddar, lettuce, tomato and pickled red onion and triple cooked chips comes in at £16.50. And absolutely foul. Chips straight from the freezer, and just the once. DT

Dreadful service! The barmaid was incredibly rude. It was so embarrassing as I had clients with me. We left immediately and didn’t bother with the drinks.

I always liked the old Utopia and the Roebuck is getting back to that. I am hoping though that in April 23 that it is not £13.30 for 2 pints of Guinness when it was £11.50 a few weeks ago.... i know this is reflective of the market but it's almost not making sense for the average guy to go out and meet his mates for a few drinks.

The Roebuck - Birmingham The most straight forward and yet also the dullest pub I visited on my Birmingham exploration. Nothing particularly wrong with it, as service was pleasant enough, but it seemed so unexceptional or outstanding in any way, like a bar just going through the motions. Passing by, we called in for a quick drink. Waited quite a while to be served, and then sat at a table that had dirty glasses on. Half an hour late the dirty glasses are still here. Dirty tables around! Ambulance is good! Just a shame about the service.

Came in for drinks after work. Nice easy atmosphere. Plenty of space to sit. Motown on the speakers. Will definitely be back

After spending many weekend afternoon’s with friends in Utopia, was quite looking forward to going to the new Roebuck when it opened. This was our 3rd visit since the reopening and now will be the last. We arrived and it was quite busy had a few drinks and ordered food. The food was ok nothing special. By the time we had finished eating the pub had gone quieter no more than 20 people in the whole place. The staff behind the bar were all stood talking and after 45 mins after we had finished eating someone came and cleared the table. By now it was 9-00 pm. We decided to have a few cocktails, we waited at the bar and they were all around the other side still just talking. At 9-25 pm they asked what we would like and we asked for cocktails the one girl had washed the cocktail shaker and placed it at the back and replied “sorry we are not making cocktails anymore” I asked politely why? I was told just we are not doing them now. The girl then turned and carried on talking to her colleague. 9-30pm in a bar in the centre of Birmingham and they wouldn’t serve cocktails. Why advertise cocktails if you are not doing them? By this time we had had enough and left there. Then there were 6 people left in the place. This place used to be full all the time and a great place to be. What a shame. Think management need to be sorting the place out and get people who are interested what they are doing for a job.

I visited with four work colleagues recently after a business meeting. The ambience was lovely, well decorated, plush seats and it all felt so welcoming. Having not been there before, our server (Paul) explained everything to us perfectly! Our food came very quickly and was of a very high standard. We had a great afternoon and Paul ensured our visit was what we expected. He’s a credit to you and his customer service skills are excellent. Thanks for everything - we’ll be back very soon.

Came here with some friends for some food and we all absolutely loved it. My compliments to head chef Daniel Mallinson and his team (I was told that Gary was in charge of the kitchen whilst we were there) as all the food was sublime.

This is a proper boozer in the city centre and a good choice if you don't want a trendy wine bar. One of our party wanted coffee and that was readily available. We only came for drinks but there is a standard pub food menu if you want to eat. A light, bright and comfortable space - not trendy or loud!

I've known this venue under its various guises for some years, going back to when it was The Church Tavern. In those days it was a bright and airy bar/restaurant with a buzz about it. Now?...not so. Grey MDF panelling adorns the walls, grey carpets, grey ceiling, grey everything. It has a cheap "make over" look about it. Even the drinks offer boards above the bar are plain light boxes with badly written coloured felt pen signage. Such was our disappointment we stopped for just one drink which was shockingly expensive at just under £17 for a glass of Malbec and a G&T. Even then, the young lady serving us at the bar was confused with the arrival of a £20 note? She had to have 3 conversations with other bar staff and a manager to discover which till had change in it? Not a great experience....

Went there last Friday and it was 'ok' but feels very main stream now. The old Utopia was a quiet relaxed pub that you could go to and have decent conversation. It felt different to a lot of the other pubs around. Maybe it was because it was pay day weekend as well and busier than normal. Service was not as slick as before.... maybe it's the change of staff. The staff just feel a bit young and therefore it's like any other place in the city. This used to be the go to place for the first drinks of the evening but we might be looking for other places. We would often come here for 1 or 2 and end up staying for the evening. But we left after 1.

A new incarnation for the former Utopia. A good addition to the City Centre bar scene. Larger than it might look from the outside and nicely decorated. Not a bad drop of Fullers Pride either.

Great cocktails and delicious food! They have a variety of board games (Like Jenga) that we enjoyed a lot. The service was exceptional.

Lovely food, great relaxed atmosphere, didn't notice any children just adults chilling out, superb service, Sophie took great care of us, we didn't have to wait or chase for attention, she was there whenever we needed anything.

This is a really pleasant bar/restaurant. There’s a lovely selection of ‘house’ wines (I recommend the Malbec or the Merlot). Monday to Friday between 5 & 7 you can have two nice meals for the price of one. Also Prosecco is £17 all day Friday & Saturday. Well worth a visit.

Visited with my girlfriend on a Saturday for pre drinks. Hadn’t been to this pub before, looked inviting from the outside so popped in. Decor is modern, looked nice and clean and had a lovely cosy feel to it. The bar staff were so friendly and helpful when asking for directions. Would surely go again and try the food as it looked delicious from what I saw a couple eating.

Just off Colmore Row decent place for after work or pre-dinner drinks in city centre. Pleasant interior. Can get really busy on fridays.

Dropped in for birthday celebration drinks following meal in nearby restaurant, nice decor but hardly any customers so not a great atmosphere, drinks were good but Heineken draught beer was disappointing but the Guinness was good!

Went here on a weekday morning for a breakfast meeting. Very friendly welcome super helpful and lovely relaxed atmosphere. Toast always looks like w boring item on a breakfast menu but I'm so glad I opted for it - delicious thick, fresh granary bread, buttery and served with good quality jam - it was seriously delicious! The cafetiere of fresh coffee was also delicious.

Was in Birmingham the other day with a friend looking for somewhere different to have a light lunch.We passed Bar Utopia and decided to pop in and look at the menu.We were warmly welcomed by Andrea and she seated us and brought the menus straight away..The menu was varied with lots of choice.I picked the salmon with Asparagus and a sauce which was lovely and my friend had a salad which Andrea said was gorgeous.Food did not disappoint.

Trabajé en Birmingham hace 40 años, así que volver al ritmo de la vida parece rápido y furioso. Fue encantador encontrar este restaurante donde podríamos ir más despacio ya que el ambiente era el adecuado. Andrea nos sirvió y ella fue muy servicial con un gran sentido del humor. La ensalada fue justo como ella dijo, una elección maravillosa y otros en grupo disfrutaron de su comida y sus budines. Volveremos.

My colleague and I were looking for somewhere reasonable to have an evening meal. On entering this place we were surprised to see the majority of the tables had a reserved sign on! Fearing they were expecting a large group and that service may be adversely affected we were about to leave straight away when my colleague casually asked who they were expecting? The explanation of ‘ no one, we do this to ensure diners have somewhere nice to eat, separate to the people who only wish to drink’ did confuse us? I’m sure they must lose a lot of customers, when people like us, walk in, see all the reservations, then just walk out again? Maybe it’s just me? When we realised we could sit where we wanted, the subsequent food and service was very good.

Fuimos como una familia de cuatro para el almuerzo sin reserva y nos sirvieron con prontitud y cortesía. Había una buena variedad de comida a precios razonables para el centro de la ciudad. El servicio fue excelente en todo momento y el restaurante estaba muy bien distribuido con espacio razonable entre las mesas. Definitivamente regresaremos: es un buen lugar para detenerse si usted está en una exhibición de compras para otras visitas y necesita repostar y relajarse.

Llegando a las 7. A las 30 hs de un sábado por la noche se les dijo que debían verificar si todavía estaban haciendo comida. Todavía estaban sirviendo, así que encontramos un asiento y 8 asientos que nos dijeron cómo sentarnos alrededor de las 2 mesas a pesar de que cambiamos las mesas para el acceso posterior. El menú era un poco bistró, pero creo que no era necesario. Debería haber sido sencillo. Comí el pollo frito y, desafortunadamente, no lo recomendaría, era masticable y no estaba muy bien, pero el resto del grupo realmente disfrutó de las comidas. Fresco y agradable. Sólo el menú apeló a un tipo más de carros o bistró, pero las comidas se convirtieron en una comida tradicional de pub que debería haber sido anunciada y creo que atraería a muchas más personas.

Went to Utopia for a friends birthday party, on the 16th Feb, all went well but what made the difference was Cara the barmaid, what a delight, in fact all the staff were great. Well done!

An excellent range of ales, lagers and wines. Tastefully decorated with an upmarket clientele. Service is spot on with attractive and cheerful bar associates. Well worth a visit if you're treating yourself or partner.

We came here early Saturday evening and enjoyed the welcome and atmosphere. I've no idea how busy it gets later but based on what I saw I would imagine this is a nice place to spend an evening.

We had read about this bar online and decided to give it a whirl last night. My husband and I live in the city and have regular date nights where we go and visit 3-4 bars or pubs within the city centre and try out cocktails or wines. As far as the website goes, they were selling a ‘country vibe in the city’ and the menu pricing suggested it was mid- high range. We had just come from Loki wine bar and were planning to head to the bar at Hotel Du Vin ( both regulars on our date night roster), so perhaps our rotation was all wrong, but Utopia was a complete let down.

Went here for a few drinks one Sunday afternoon and we were the only people in there. Nice comfy seats and pleasant bar staff. Would visit again. I imagine it is much busier in the week compared to Sundays!

Fabulous service received by Andrea, especially after one of our party of 10 was running late and we didn’t order straight away - really friendly and attentive and the food was fantastic, excellent value for money all round. Would highly recommend a visit here.

Not visited here for years but pleased to see they've not lost their touch. Pleasant surroundings, interesting menu, good service. Seasonal menu included a Christmas burger which was worth the gamble. Quality of food is top notch and not too expensive. Recommended.

Unless you can see in the dark I wouldn’t bother coming here. The lightning is turned down so low you can’t see the people opposite you. Not a good look in the middle of the day

Had a fabulous day it was my birthday, my daughter & I had lunch at utopia. The two ladies behind the bar jo & Lucie were so funny & friendly. The food, atmosphere and music was fab. A must for fun loving foodies. Love this place will return

Vi gick runt i Birmingham för att hitta ett ställe att dricka en öl på. Vi hamnade här, det verkade mysigt och trevligt. Det var trevligt, trevlig personal & bra blandad musik i högtalarna. God öl. Vi tittar in nästa gång vi är här igen, kanske provar vi en bit mat också.

I celebrated my retirement at Utopia & it was excellent. We had a section of the bar roped off to make it private. The staff here are fabulous & made every effort to make sure my night went well. The food was delicious too so a very big thank you to all at Utopia I’m sure many of us will be back x

I have been here a number of times. It’s a lovely venue with delicious food. The mini fish and chips is delicious and excellent value for money.

Visited after work with colleagues. Drinks were reasonably priced and the staff were friendly. It is also in a really handy location, close to both New Street and Snow Hill train stations. Would definitely come back again

I liked the atmosphere and the dining area. It was a good place to go for a drink and a bite to eat. I did however find my selection of food very bland. I had the tuna and sweetcorn sandwich - if i hadn't ordered it i doubt i would recognise what i ate.

Been here a couple of times now, it’s ok for a couple after work or if you’re local to it. Food is a bit hit and miss, just the usual bar type food. Really busy on a Friday after work, can usually find a seat if you try hard enough.

Celebré mi "dejando hacer" aquí anoche. Tuve la zona bar reservado que era elegante y confortable. Había entre 25 y 35 de nosotros en el transcurso de la tarde, una noche de viernes, el personal era amable eficiente trabajó muy duro. El buffet era precioso...

Myself and a friend came here on a Friday night: lots of people, great atmosphere, some lovely wine on the menu and a good range of drinks in general.

Nuestros bares normales de selección estábamos demasiado ocupados temprano en la noche del sábado, así que nos dimos un paseo por uno de los caminos seguidos y justo al lado de Colmore encontré este bar. No demasiado concurrida, aunque estoy seguro de que no se llena más tarde en sofás de cuero, cómodas y a precios razonables. Sin duda volveremos.

I visit Utopia on a regular basis. It's convenient for lunch breaks and after work socialising, and has a great relaxed atmosphere and good vibe. I always feel at home here. This evening we experienced a couple of teething problems at the outset (most unusual for Utopia) but boy did the staff turn it around!! I cannot commend them highly enough on how they looked after us; Lauren was absolutely superb (waitress of the year!) and nothing was too much trouble for her. The food was fantastic and second to none; I can highly recommend the Tempura prawns, which are my personal fave. There is so much choice in the City but you would be hard pushed to beat this little gem for overall quality and value for money. The staff work hard and it shows in everything they do. We already have our work's Christmas lunch booked for December but I will be back before then to sample the new menu! Thank you for a great dining experience.

Popped in for a glass of wine whilst waiting to check in the hotel opposite. There was a lovely relaxed atmosphere with comfy seating. The only disappointment was that being a Sunday it closed early.

We arranged a celebration morning for my daughter with Utopia. we asked for a buffet for 25-30 people. we were given a private area and it was laid out lovely food was nice and staff (Suki and her team) were very helpful!i wouldn't hesitate about using this venue again for such an event.

This was my first visit to Utopia as I live in London. I was staying at Hotel du Vin just opposite. This was a great find so we had lunch there as well as a little pre-dinner drinks reception which Suki kindly fitted us in. Great place, you go either after a shopping trip or for the evening. Utopia is spot on for an express lunch! Walked in served, drinks, food, paid and out all within half hour. Perfect if you're on office lunch break. We both had burgers which were excellent, the best ive eaten for some time (and i eat a lot of burgers).

I visited here for lunch with two friends from work. We ordered quite quickly, we waited waited, 40 minutes later we were told that the food was on its way. It never arrived, the lady who served us came up about ten minutes later apologizing as she forgot to put our order through. She said it had just been put in the fryer, we of course had to get back to work so got up to leave. We were then asked to pay for our drinks which we refused to. Shockingly bad service, you don't expect to go out for lunch then come back hungry.

Have been going here a few times a year since it opened but never reviewed it before. The staff are always warm and welcoming and offer efficient friendly service. Even when busy with lunchtime service yesterday there was no pressure on us to hurry our menu choices. I went for a old favourite, sausage sandwich with chunky chips, my friend had the Utopia beef burger. Both were delicious! The house Chardonnay, £15 a bottle, is good value. The menu offers a great range of sandwiches, salads and more substantial mains - and the chunky chips are to die for! Won't be long before I am back there again.

Son was in Birmingham children's hospital last Saturday so in the evening took a stroll and found this place. A nice welcome and found a table straight away. Good ice cold Heineken, and found a table right away, Went for the pork belly which was probably the best I've had before, was delicious and reasonably priced (around £12) was cooked perfect and wasn't waiting long at all so compliments to the chef. Didn't have dessert but stopped for another beer. Great atmosphere in there too. 5 stars
